hephaist0s: is my 10.62 at 7:59:59 or Lairew's bid at 1:00:35 considered the last bid? Trying to figure out which is being used for the 30min. Does it end at 8:29:59 or 8:30:35?

Current end time is 8:40 pm EST and Lairew is high bid. Here's the thing: this auction structure is meant to be proof against sniping, since each bid adds 30 minutes from bid time, so everyone has another 30 minutes to consider. There is no reason to wait until the last minute except for the adrenaline rush and the terror of tempting fate. Smiley

I tried to bid 10.8 before 8:01 but got the following error:

The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later. The thing you were trying to post was saved as a draft. This limit decreases substantially as your account becomes more established.

I could not post, but I definitely hit submit before 8:01.

either way I thought the auction ended at 8pm as outlined in the original post?

Little frustrated because of the forums limits on my account.  I took a screenshot of the error, of course 5 seconds after my clock turned to 8:01 (I hit submit at 8:00:50)

We are now in overtime, and each bid adds 30 minutes to the clock. The current high bid is 10.9 BTC and the current end time is 8:40 pm EST

Excuse me of being a noob in Casascius coins, but does it come with the PGP chain of custody? I see that you're the first owner so that's doable, right? I'm at the verge of bidding...

Actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure OP is in fact the original owner.

There were only 45 of these made, I had 12, I know of another (since-banned) forum user who had 12, and I know of another forum user who had 9. That leaves one full roll of 12 left over, and someone who claimed to be the mystery third owner sent me a PM recently.

OP, did you purchase a full roll or just one coin?

I purchased one single coin, directly from Mike through the website. Why are you asking this only now?!

I realize this isn't ironclad proof, but since the hour is late I again point to my blog post from July 2013 in which i talk about this coin:
http://object2212.com/?p=1

That should count for at least something. If any one needs more proof of first ownership, I do have the emails from Mike.

I am the first owner, so if Mike still responds to those requests after such long delay, I am glad to set that up. I hesitated to mention it only because I had not already set that up, and didn't want to be making promises.

But I'll be happy to take any reasonable steps to ensure / enhance the value for the buyer.

Where did he up the bid to 10.5BTC? His last post said 9.5BTC...

3 posts up...

CanaryInTheMine and MN are spot on; This is a case of a user who spend little time in front of the PC and values to be anonymous.

I have done multiple private deals with JackRilley and have found him to have the means to be good to his word.
I never had any problems when trading with JackRilley - everything went smooth.

Nevertheless, I respect that it is hephaist0s that ultimately decides the rules of this auction.

Thank you TookDk for vouching for me. hephaist0s, if you are willing to accept my bid, I will raise it to 10.5

Best Regards -

Jack

Ok, in this case I'll take TookDk's endorsement of JackRilley as enough to move forward.

Any future newbie bids will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, requiring either proof of funds, use of an escrow to hold the funds prior to bidding, or at minimum some kind of vouching for the newbie by an established forum member.

My apologies for the mixed messages, I'm scaling a learning curve here.

JackRilley's new bid of 10.5 BTC is the current high bid.

I'd like to clarify that in my OP, "Reputable bidders only" means no newbies and no accounts with poor trust ratings.

No offense to any well-intentioned newbies this might affect, but I want to ensure a smooth and simple transaction that both seller and buyer are happy with, with no complications.

At the moment, the high bid is 8.5 BTC from Blazed.

In other news, whoever posted this auction to Reddit -- thanks!! Very cool.

I completely forgot that this coin was in the first entry on my sporadic, occasional bitcoin blog, in July 2013:
http://object2212.com/?p=1

Mind telling us what you paid for it originally? I hope you got it for something cheap like 1.5ish

2.25 BTC on June 28, 2013.

Did you know what you had? I was surprised you did not mention S2 hologram in auction...

No, I didn't. I decided to sell a few coins, and was working my way from the smaller to the larger... lol. Apparently my research was a little spotty.

So I feel a little dumb. And I am a bit excited!

As requested, photo of hologram with date:

I've received a few questions via PM, so for the record:

A) This is the only silver Casascius half that I have to sell.
B) There is not, nor will there be, a buy-it-now price for this coin. The auction will determine the price.

Let's see where this goes!

It has been kept in its airtite & was originally bought from an OgNasty group buy.

I would be happy to offer you a refund for your group buy purchase.   Wink

Why, how kind of you sir! Yet I believe that ship just sailed, so I respectfully decline.  Grin
