2821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin Price Checker Sites? on: September 02, 2017, 12:51:21 PM
Try the following site:

https://coinalyze.net/

It has live ticker prices from several exchanges so you can track the difference in prices in real time. It works for BTC, XMR, ETH and LTC.
2822  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best platform for day trading? on: September 02, 2017, 12:48:00 PM
If you want fast, avoid Kraken. It lags something chronic, and when the platform is really under pressure it won't even let you place trades without giving constant error messages.

It's fine if you want to place a limit sell well in advance, and then log out and let it do it's thing. But it doesn't work well for daytrading.
2823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where is the actual value of Altcoins coming from? on: September 02, 2017, 12:38:19 PM
Some of them have features that bitcoin doesn't have - see Ether, Monero etc. Some are used to move money because bitcoin fees are too high, and by definition this means buying and selling the alts as you move them about. And some of it is speculators piling in because they feel it's a cheap way to earn some bitcoin - buy some undiscovered alt, watch the price rise, sell for bitcoin.
2824  Economy / Speculation / Re: Insider Trading on: September 02, 2017, 12:35:19 PM
Can you have insider trading in unregulated markets? The power to prosecute traders who act on inside information, will be derived from some law. If that law is not broad enough, crypto traders might get away with trading on inside information.

This. Cryptocurrency is unregulated, and as long as that is the case, there will be market manipulation. Part of the reason the SEC refused to approve the Winklevoss ETF was because they felt that bitcoin's price was subject to manipulation on unregulated exchanges.
2825  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have an interesting question. on: September 02, 2017, 11:11:23 AM
Okay, so you see, I am all about breaking free from all the chains of all the governments and their banks that are watching our every move and every asset we own so they can tax the hell out of everything they can. But you see, if I put everything i have onto an offline wallet or in drive wallet and put it in a vault, or anywhere you guys can think of, what then would i do if something happens to that place where i stored my drive containing almost everything i have? What if a fire happens? A war? A natural disaster? That would mean i would lose everything i have! And the worse thing is, i can also not go putting money on online wallets because i just don't trust them.

I would like to see some thoughts. Thanks.

You make copies of the wallet.dat and store it in multiple safe places (including renting a bank deposit box, if you have a lot of coins).
2826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [2017-09-02] Litecoin Spikes, Highest Ever Trading Volume on GDAX on: September 02, 2017, 10:28:14 AM
According to the following, the biggest volume was bithumb (Korean exchange), followed by some of the Chinese exchanges.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/litecoin/#markets

I think people in the east really like litecoin, whereas the western exchanges prefer trading ethereum.
2827  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is BTC going on bearish trend now? on: September 02, 2017, 10:24:53 AM
Yesterday BTC was peaked around $4900+ ~close to $5,000 and it is now back to $4,700

What's your take on it? Minor price correction? Or we will have a slightly down trend towards to Close to $4,000 which is almost a 15% Down

It's normal profit taking. It went up too fast. It was just about $3000 on August 1st, so the rise was too sharp. I hope it stabalises at the current level for a bit.
2828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin Skyrockets past $60 on: September 02, 2017, 04:37:51 AM
Saw Charlie Lee's (LTC founder) tweet saying that he tested very first lightening network(LN) transaction on
LTC mainnet today.  This big rally seems to be about LN activation on Litecoin network soon.
Anyway, LTC is very bullish though may need a pullback before it goes over $100 in next month or two.

The big question is, will anyone use the lightning network on litecoin. They arn't using segwit, (even on bitcoin segwit use is very low).
2829  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin exchanges with no AML/KYC on: September 02, 2017, 03:07:17 AM
You can try HITBTC - they don't ask for anything apart from an email address that you need to verify.
2830  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin: Crypto Tide Is Rising on: September 02, 2017, 03:05:31 AM
It's going up too fast and I'm getting scared. I was asking myself whether I'd buy at these levels, and the answer is no. So who is buying?
2831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I have created a cryptocurrency analysis website that may be of interest for you on: September 01, 2017, 04:53:18 PM
Here is the link https://coinalyze.net/

Some of cool features:

- streaming/realtime update for market data: prices, trades etc
- ability to compare multiple pairs , see "Compare or Add Symbol" button
- chat/trollbox
- candlestick patterns detection !
- new cool features still to come

Hope will be useful for you. Happy trading!

That's a seriously good effort. Are you able to add more coins - for example bitcoincash?
2832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The 'real' Bitcoin on: September 01, 2017, 04:46:24 PM
all I do is stay on the side with highest price, where I can make bigger profits.
When Bitcoin Cash takes over from the fighting two SegWit prongs, you will make the MOST profit being on BCH as it surpasses BTC.

Well in the last day or so Bitcoin Cash has crashed from $600+ to $540 while BTC is making new highs.

When can we expect another BCH/BCC pump?

Not until the next difficulty adjustment, which seems to be around 10th September according to the following forecast tool:

2834  Economy / Speculation / Re: Atomic chain swap between btc and ltc on: September 01, 2017, 04:00:26 PM
The newly implemented atomic chain swap between btc and ltc means basically ltc = btc in terms of usage right? Anywhere that accept btc, I could just use ltc and it gets auto swapped to btc.

So I'm thinking since ltc=btc now, shouldn't ltc price actually become 25% of btc price given that ltc max cap is 4x of btc?

Not exactly. It only means that once deployed you'll be able to securely exchange BTC for LTC (and the other way round) without any middle man (eg. exchanges).

The same will most likely apply to other SegWit enabled cryptocurrencies. The exchange rate will still be up to market forces, presumably either via a public history of recent atomic cross-chain swaps or based on the exchange rates of traditional centralized exchanges.

If I get this correctly, it then means that I can just send my ltc to my btc wallet and it will appear as btc but at the currently prevailing rate which then means that there won't be any thing like mistakenly sending ltc to btc address? But the issue what will be the conversion rate?

I'm guessing the lightning hubs will set the conversion and charge fees for it. Essentially they become banks and exchanges on top of the bitcoin network.
2835  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase sees complaints grow on: September 01, 2017, 01:36:00 PM
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-30/bitcoin-exchange-sees-complaints-soar-as-users-demand-money

Quote
The most popular online exchange for trading digital currencies is generating a surge in customer complaints this year even as investors are lured by a dramatic rise in prices.

The U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has received at least 293 complaints about Coinbase Inc., according to data reviewed by Bloomberg. That compares with about six complaints for all of 2016, and makes Coinbase the biggest recipient of CFPB virtual currency complaints this year. The website has struggled to keep up with spiking volume and longer transaction processing times as the value of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies soared to record highs.

More than a third of the grievances came from individuals who said they were unable to access their money when promised. Many people also complained about other transaction or service problems. Accusations of fraud represented less than 15 percent of the complaints.
2836  Economy / Speculation / Re: Marketcap & BTC Dominance on: September 01, 2017, 01:11:38 PM

anyone can create a new altcoin with 300 trillion coins and sell a single coin for $1 and beat the market cap

If it was that easy to do, doge would be worth $1.

In order to sell something for $1, someone has to agree it's worth buying it for $1. And that is hard to achieve, you have to persuade the investor of it's worth.

Which means marketcap is a good proxy for where investors think value is. At the moment bitcoin's share is less than 50% of the total cryptocurrency marketcap, which means investors think there is more potential in alts than in bitcoin. And they're putting their money where their mouth is.
2837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So I sold my BCC ... on: September 01, 2017, 12:09:22 PM
Money used to buy Cash coins isn't neccessarily coming from the one true Bitcoin. There is a lot of new money going into crypto currencies, and I suspect this is where the purchase price comes from.

This. The market cap for bitcoin is now less than half the total market cap for all cryptocurrecies. Despite bitcoin's eye-catching rise, more money is flowing into alts than bitcoin. I believe it's because new investors think BTC is pricey, and are hoping for bigger percentage gains from alts.
2838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / F2Pool Reneges: Bitcoin Pool Pulls Segwit2x Support Over Hard Fork on: September 01, 2017, 11:56:55 AM
https://www.coindesk.com/f2pool-reneges-mining-pool-pulls-segwit2x-support-hard-fork/

Quote
Chinese mining pool F2Pool no longer supports the controversial scaling agreement Segwit2x.

Though the proposal has garnered support from many large bitcoin companies and the majority of mining pools, many take issue with its aim to boost bitcoin capacity by way of a hard fork, a mechanism that could lead the cryptocurrency to split into separate blockchain networks.

Tension has been high with developers already hotly debating the merits of the hard fork (a grassroots movement has sprung up in opposition as well), even though the change is not slated for more than two months from now.

Although F2Pool was an original signatory of the agreement, its operator Wang Chun is now among the proposal's detractors.

In an email, Chun told CoinDesk:

"No. I don't support [the] Segwit2x hard fork."

I wonder if other mining pools will follow. It may mean no hardfork in November.
2839  Economy / Economics / Re: Pump and dump is the name of the game. on: September 01, 2017, 11:24:40 AM
Did you guys noticed what was happening recently in the crytocurrency world?
People pump certain coin and then dump it later when the price hit the highest level.
And then buy later when the price dip to the lowest level.

What do you think of this? Share your thoughts Grin

Isn't that how it works? Isn't that what the words HYPE and FUD were invented to describe? I don't get it? I'm not a trader but I thought that was always the way the markets worked. Are you trying to make a funny observational statement?

It's how unregulated markets work. It's how Wall Street worked prior to the 1930s. You could argue it's how Wall Street works now, only they've got better at covering it up, to avoid prosecutions.
2840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin is the sleeping giant on: September 01, 2017, 10:30:54 AM
The number of on-chain transactions per 24 hours hit an all time high for Litecoin - 34,711. See

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html

It means people are starting to use it to move money instead of using bitcoin.
