2821  Economy / Services / Re: Orthodontic Braces in Southern California now accepting Bitcoin on: February 20, 2013, 08:01:17 PM
If you know the SoCal area she practices near Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.

Cool!

You know there is a flight instructor down there that accepts bitcoins for training and soon there will be a Bitcoin Airlines that will accept bitcoins for private flights (SoCal to SF, LV, Phoenix, etc.).

Looks like the SoCal bitcoin economy is building out.

Yeah that flight instructor probably knows my wife's cousin who used to have a helicopter school/hangar nearby (well at least until he moved to China 2 years ago).  If he was still here in the states I'm sure I could have gotten him to accept BTC since he hates the Fed and Obama policies (apparently enough to put his money where his mouth is and actually leave the US).
2822  Economy / Services / Orthodontic Braces in Southern California now accepting Bitcoin on: February 20, 2013, 11:14:03 AM
So I just volunteered my wife to accept ortho patients and case payment can be made in Bitcoin (either full payment up front or monthly installments).  If you know the SoCal area she practices near Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.  If you're in SoCal and want a free ortho consult PM me.  She only does orthodontics though - no cosmetic or general dentistry.
2823  Economy / Services / Re: Medical Consult for Bitcoins on: February 20, 2013, 11:08:44 AM
Well in this day and age when you can send all kinds of data digitally a lot of medicine is performed at a distance.  Having said that I know a good history and physical exam is worth more than any single test -otherwise a computer could diagnose you.

We have a few specialist on-board and as Bitcoin becomes more widely accepted hopefully more physicians will pop their heads on here.
2824  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Any Bitcoin Meetups in the Los Angeles or Orange County Areas? USA on: February 20, 2013, 10:30:12 AM
Wife is leaving town that day so I might be able to actually go.  I would prefer a location closer to downtown or even towards OC since there would be some peps that could come up from SD and the OC area.

Other benefits which are partially or fully realized:

- Botnets - haha, they'll barely make pennies now, so they'll move onto something else
- being able to hear things in your house (assuming you haven't lost your hearing from 100 fans at 100%)
- not having a 100F/38C house even when AC is running all the time
- not having to worry about electrocuting kids, cats, dogs with 25 open mining rigs
- not having to wait until a pool goes offline to use your microwave or hair dryer
- reclaiming 1700 sqft of your house from the evergrowing hashing Borg

2829  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BFL ASIC conspiracy on: February 19, 2013, 09:13:47 AM
There are probably about 10 threads on this.

Many might that the ASIC manufacturers are the only ones who will make real profits in this arms race. To do that they can't be caught mining with their customer's hardware.

If BFL really put all their 6k chips online we would have passed onto a new difficulty today  Shocked

2832  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch#2 Re-open 2/18 on: February 19, 2013, 05:59:23 AM
I placed, an order and it said I don't have to pay through walletbit.  Is there an address on the Avalon store I am supposed to send payment to?

When I click on Pay for order on Avalon Store it takes me to walletbit.

Try to go back to the order, then to walletbit, then "pay as guest" and see what happens.
Perhaps someone else did this and can give better detail.

By the time I figured out to try it as a guest checkout it had gone out of stock (not sure how it removed my cart even though I had 9 minutes left).  Fuck it - it wasn't meant to be.  Three attempts to get Avalon - each a fail  Roll Eyes

Try going to the main page when you are logged in.  Then on the right hand side go to the My account link, and see if there are any unpaid orders that show up.

I see the order but it's not open, says cancelled even though I never clicked a cancel link on walletbit.

Good googly moogly. I saw his thread but never thought anybody would actually loan him money.  Then again I ate 510 BTC in a PPT and lost another 42 BTC to Hashking so who am I to judge  Cheesy Huh Cry

2839  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 vs 5970 power consumption on: February 16, 2013, 11:40:41 PM
I got actual power figures for 5970. I ran a computer equipped with a 450 watt 80PLUS Gold power supply with a single 5870 in it and mined to get a baseline figure. It came to 175 watts with a kill-a-watt. I added a 5970 on top of that and ran both cores at 1v, 760MHz and 152MHz memory and mined on the 5870 plus 5970. Power increased to 425 watts with a kill-a-watt and the 5970 generated 705 MHash/sec.

Radeon 5970 @ 760/152/1v = 705Mhash/sec @ 250 watts = 2.82MHash/joule.

This was brave Cheesy putting those 2 on a 450w supply

It's not brave, it's smart.  He used a Gold PSU, so he probably had close to 450W available on the 12V rails (probably single rail).  If it was a simple Celeron or Sempron 400W could go to the 2 GPUs and if he downclocked the RAM he probably had enough room to throw a 7770 in there too Tongue

A cheap 450 PSU will have 240W available on the 12v (maybe 20A), a high end Gold PSU is made for this stuff - no need for overkill.  Quality over quantity.
