I think its automatic. When i sell my btcs, automatically it will be converted to usd so i'm not sure there's a difference between selling and converting. Every now and then i let go of some of the btcs that i have especially if certain circumstances require it. Both has got the same meaning, but what Op has thought is whether you sell and withdraw or just convert to USD and keep hold of it to buy when the price falls.
