2841  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What do you think of my big project? on: April 27, 2018, 01:54:10 PM
Hi Martin,
I may have an idea to market the product if you are interested to commercialise it. There are people dying to get accurate indication of market. If the project can serve even say 80% (not sure if possible) then why won't people be interested in it.

I see you are a very young man. People like you has more possibility to give better to the world than me as a 35 years man. I would like to see the product first and try to see myself how it works. I will spend my free time to see result. If it's good then I can offer you my time and consultation in return of to be a part of the project. I have marketing skills and you are passionate about programming. We both can make a good business deal.

In my mind I am always looking for a good project to be a part with.

Regards,

2842  Other / Meta / Re: Secret Question issue: theymos, consider hassle to recover locked account on: April 27, 2018, 12:25:10 PM
-snip-
The secret question is usually the last thing that people will resort to when they have lost their password. With an email, you can retrieve the password through a simple reset. When a user doesn't have an email/loses their email wouldn't it make sense to lock an account for verification if they reset using the secret question?

Especially considering the fact that the answer is usually far less secure than passwords.

Of course not. I do not know how the SMF reset function work but the stander reset procedures should be....
...When the Secret answer match with the users input then send a reset link or a new pass to the registered email.

However I understand the issue here. Since we do not need to verify an email at the time of registration so it's complected.

Bill I said IMO. Please please don't through out argues out of no where. Please do not blame me saying...

Please.
This forum is full with information and but not organised for sure. There are a lot of information I have not even encountered yet so do you.

I'm a little uninformed on this issue, in the sense that I don't know if the Secret Question works at all.
See your statement. Does that not mean that you are also in doubt.

You can not expect someone to know everything about everything. This forum is an ocean mate.

You see the fears bill?
If anyone has disabled this function successfully, please let me know, I'm not willing to try myself.

I was considering disabling the secret question option if and when my regular account is unlocked, but afraid to touch it as well.

Please bill please... Thank you for understanding.

Hey, does anyone know where the physical bitcointalk.org web servers are located?  I'd like to set up an AWS server as close as possible to them.

Thanks!
It must be for BPIP? Wondering are you a developer. I wish I could help answering your query but sorry mate. Undecided
2845  Other / Meta / Re: About merit summaries on: April 27, 2018, 10:12:40 AM
Mainly I do these date-limitation things just because it's always a massive pain to add pagination to things...

For the data dumps, I've been thinking that I might provide historical data (across multiple files), though.

Make sense. Providing a historical data will be fine.

You want to hear people's opinions and ideas even if they have a broken English but you don't want them to receive even one merit? are we here for your entertainment without ranking up?
I think the actual post about merit never said anything about broken English or proper English to receive merit. It's the image and pictures the senior forum members are planting in members mind. They needs to be careful about their word selections.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

It was my mistake and I'm sorry about that...

I PM'd Theymos about this case and lets wait for the guy...

Appreciate the response, and it's all good, just glad to hear it wasn't actually my fault Smiley

Good to see you will be getting back your account. Whenever I see any ban/lock account thread I feel myself gosh please help this person. I understand mods are really busy however this is a sector they need more attention. Thank you rickbig41, I seen you replying a lot of the account hack/ban posts.
2847  Other / Meta / Secret Question issue: theymos, consider hassle to recover locked account on: April 27, 2018, 09:41:54 AM
This is what I learnt today (lucky that it caught my eyes)...
Just to make it clear for the OP, a normal password & email change doesn't lead to this but instead "recovering the account using the secret question, is its cause".
I was about to reply the post then I though to create this new topic so that I can get attention of theymos and also can help few readers to know to be careful about using their secret question feature.

If you haven't lost your password yet or you have regained access to the account, don't set the secret question, it can be a hassle. Make sure that you have the email set to an email address that you can access. That will make everything so much easier and will not require the long recovery process.
- My suggestion (no pressure) is why not then remove the secret question feature from the profile setting page? This will help to save unnecessary locks.

i.e: To secure my account when I joined I did set my secret question. A fairly advanced user like me will do it always. But after seeing this post I am feeling lucky now that I will never touch the secret question section. There are/will be many members who are/will not aware of this and they will be locked easily. The way I see account hacking and locking is happening I wonder what would I do if my one get hacked. It really is frustrating to see people are trying to recover their account from months and still unsuccessful (some have really legit proof).

The forum is lacking organised FAQ section IMO.

EDIT:
Please advice how do I remove secret question since I already set up one  Undecided
2848  Other / Meta / Re: Remove Merit.. Its beyond the control? on: April 27, 2018, 08:49:33 AM
You are expressing just your feeling. This is what I feel about merit. I feel recognition, motivation, encouragement  when I receive every single merit.

Let's analyse it from another direction using a real example. On Feb 07, I joined Bitcoin forum (https://forum.bitcoin.com/) thinking to become an early adopter before they implement any restriction to stop easy rank up. You never know someday may be that will also be a popular forum like BitcoinTalk now. After creating the account you want to know what I did or doing...?

I guess I will give you a demonstration.

More: 1, 2.... there are more. I'm not just bothered. Fuck it.

Question is what do you see there?

1st my intention was bad... "to become an early adopter before they implement any restriction in easy rank up"
2nd since my intention was bad I really do not care about giving value to that community. Doing shit there.
3rd when I post i know nothing gonna happen so again I do not care that much.

BitcoinTalk became really popular 1st because of this was THE earliest forum for Bitcoin 2nd the marketing policy of allowing signature campaign.

An overpopulated place like BitcoinTalk really needed something to protect the forum and merit is ONE OF THE best thing so far have introduced IMO.

Lesson:
Merit is saving the forum from lazy posts, spamming.
Signature campaign is necessary to make a forum attractive for the members.

Is that true that we can do nothing else but reporting the posts one by one?

2850  Other / Meta / Re: More than 1000 merit abusers found here (clearly motivated) - red trust time on: April 26, 2018, 08:42:47 PM
The script is showing those who have exchanged minimum one merit with each others. While the whole list might not be even 50% accurate (a wild guess) but it's obvious that scanning the list will make the life easier if you want to dig down the merit abusers rabbit hole.

I wonder with the earlier poster...
Why did you created this ALT? Why not you use your real account. Scared about getting RedTrust. Man... Look at my trust page LOL

PS: This is really a good shit but since it's from an alt I stopped myself sending an sMerit  Undecided
2851  Other / Meta / Re: Threatening with "Negative Trust" for Merit Usage on: April 26, 2018, 08:23:26 PM
Well i have seen a lot of things like this in the forum nowadays. People accuse others and that others trying to defend themself. i really like people who are trying to find cheaters because i consider it as a contribution, but i really want to say, for you guys, please dont make a wrong accusations. Gather up enough proof before accuse someone and make it right. And i believe if the accusation is right, then the accused must get the punishment, but if the accusation is not right, then the accuser must get a punishment too.

In my Opinion.

Since you said that... What is your feedback about the accusation I presented against OP and also how about KingScorpio and RYXES (although did not redTagged yet)?

I am asking coz your comment seems staying in the middle LOL

Hello guys, I am working in a factory in the mornings and I do not have free time to answer now but I will answer at night.
Sure, I am interested to see your views after reading the posts already posted on this topic.
2854  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system should be removed ! on: April 26, 2018, 04:36:24 PM
~
Please stop moaning. The answer is Merit should not be removed..

You already had theyoungmillionaire, Indohunter as example started from 0 merit. Not much sure about BTCeminjas but I believe him too started from zero.

Let's compare you and me now.
You have 1 merit, 164 activity and 164 posts.
I have 50 merits, 154 activities and 494 posts

Fundamental differences are:
1. I post regularly you do not post much.
2. I do not care about trolling, when I write I try to make my posts worth reading (not that all the time I am successful). Except few I see large number of your posts are one line shit posts, just a try to increase activity.
3. I focus on engaging with the community, I enjoy my time here, do not worry about merit. You seems like bashing up the community and having difficult time in here.
4. I am trying to provide values, trying to do something good for the forum, you seems like just making posts here and there.
I am sure there are many more difference. I will leave it up to you since you need it more than me (the reasons)

You need to give your readers something to receive merit. It's something you earn not just get.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

Don't translate the quote wrong way: [Parody] Merit translation

Observe adapt overcome - life will be much easier.

PS: I have seen some members already earned over 100 merits starting from zero so again do not complain. Work for it.

EDIT:
I agree because it's difficult to have merit as a new comer...
It's difficult but not impossible

proof of merit abuse done on forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3402060.0

2856  Other / Meta / Re: Cyrus/theymos: can I save you time restoring hacked/lost accounts? on: April 26, 2018, 11:05:19 AM
I know the procedure to recover lost accounts, but I also see many threads where people are waiting up to several months to get their account restored. I guess restoring accounts doesn't have much priority, as I can imagine the workload for Administrators is quite high.

Can I help?
I can collect and verify evidence, and send it to Admin in batches (for example when I have collected 10 lost accounts, or twice a month). I do think having legit users wait for months makes the forum look bad, and if it would ever happen to me, I'd hate to have to wait that long too.

Sample entry (following theymos' format):
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
<insert address here>
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
verified (not this one) link to brainwalletx.github.io

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: LINK (plus archive.is link)

I sent that address to someone in a PM with PM ID#...
I can't verify this, so these cases will have to go through PM to Admin.

I'll only spend my time on this if Admin is going to process my reports. I'll request applicants to not PM any Admin if they submit their request in my thread.

Good initiative. Sometimes I wonder if this hack happen to me then I will also have to go through the waiting period. It's really very unfair for people who has legit proof.

Yes, I do not speak turkish however it's not easy to use translation feature. In fact I have the most easiest method of using translation.. Thanks to these days browsers.

I read merit topics and according to this rules I did not buy or sell merit. I only distribute my merits to 2 active user at forum and I can not see wrong thing on that.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

Did you really read the whole topic? If then how come you missed it (!)
Can I ask for merit?

There is no need to do this and this behaviour is usually seen as 'merit begging' which is frowned upon by the community and may lead to you receiving negative feedback. Keep making quality, constructive posts and you will surely be rewarded over time.

Can I sell merit?

Selling merit is disallowed.

Can I give merit to my alt accounts?

No, this is frowned upon and will almost certainly lead to you receiving negative feedback if discovered.

Yeah, actually I think I know...
Be my guest to read the merit translations I see now a days from abusers like you.
[Parody] Merit translation
2858  Other / Meta / Re: Why are innocent people getting blocked and scammers tolerated? on: April 26, 2018, 10:05:10 AM
Can you get a list of all these accounts (especially the one blocked doing nothing)? It's gonna obviously help the mods to identify their mistakes.

Blindly making an statement means nothing IMO

2859  Other / Meta / Re: @Admins: Merit not working as configured, trolls just don't care (no surprise) on: April 26, 2018, 09:33:39 AM

Whereas JetCash, who has much more earned merit than me (or anyone else in the thread) was kind of neutral.

And 3 straight Members with relatively high merit (Magic Smoke, nebuch & bitperson) were kind of positive. Interesting Grin
I'm not short on merit and I hate spam, but I'm not in favour of paying per post......

Carlton Banks why not create a poll and see the result. I said it before and again saying it now, it's not a membership service site it's a forum for open discussion. I not joining a membership site to learn about Bitcoin and stuffs where I can have information available using search engine (FREE).

If BitcoinTalk would offer a paid membership then Bitcoin would not become what these days it now. BitcoinTalk playing vital role to market Bitcoin (did and will do IMO)
