2841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My greatest fear about Bitcoin Halving. on: January 31, 2023, 10:49:47 AM
My greatest fear is; what if 2024 halving comes and go without any kind of bull run? Don't you think that there will be a serious problem and panic in the industry?

For those who only care about profit, it would be a really big problem and they would certainly panic, but for some others, the price is not everything that Bitcoin revolves around. Halving still has the potential to have a positive effect on the market because the reward per block after the next halving will be 3,125 BTC, but I think that the halving effect will be less and less after that because miners will mine less and less, and thus the impact of freshly mined coins on the market will be smaller and smaller.

This is because 2024 halving is the greatest available hype that can move the market. Besides that, I don't see any possible wave that can move Bitcoin to a new ATH. Unless US government will have to make BTC a legal tender.

I am of the opinion that the US government would sooner ban the sale and use of firearms than declare Bitcoin legal tender. You obviously don't follow American politics too much, and in that case you would know that the US dollar has never had and will never have an alternative. But let's say hypothetically if this happens, it would probably cause a sudden jump in the price, but the euphoria would quickly subside because, like anywhere in the world, most people use Bitcoin as an investment, not as a currency.
2842  Economy / Reputation / Re: SBF-Ross Ulbricht on: January 30, 2023, 04:05:38 PM
SBF is a talented person.

Talented to such a level that he failed to keep his company alive, and at the same time he managed to destroy the lives of countless people, some of whom probably committed suicide. People like Bankman are a danger to society and should be banned from any business involving finance and investment.

As far as punishment goes, I think both men deserve long prison sentences, although I'm pretty sure Bankman won't be treated nearly as harshly as Ross Ulbricht, and I think that is also logical considering the accusations against them. What may raise doubts about a fair trial in the case of FTX is the fact that this company financed various politicians and political organizations, and had business ties with many influential US companies, and it remains to be seen whether this will affect the verdict.
2843  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you consider spreading FUD to be unethical? on: January 30, 2023, 03:24:14 PM
What kind of question is that? Misleading others, or causing fear that can lead to financial losses or even loss of life is unethical to say the least. Unfortunately, the fact that social networks and mainstream media are something that shapes public opinion and that they are structured in such a way that it is very easy to abuse them for any purpose, what is unethical has become quite normal.

However, I would like to emphasize that not all FUD is intentional, because if we just look at this forum, we can see that some, under the influence of the media, are spreading information that is not supported by any facts and has no logic. In other words, those who try to manipulate the market are to blame, as well as those who spread such information thinking that they are helping others.
2844  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about forum threads expirey date on: January 30, 2023, 02:33:19 PM
Why are some members not locking or closing their threads after they get answers off them? Only very few practice this on this forum.

My opinion is that this is because most of the members of this forum behave very irresponsibly towards such things, and I believe that many are not aware that there is an option to close the topic or that the topic can even be moved to another board. If we take into account that this is an excuse for those I have already mentioned, what about those who are aware that such topics should be reported to the moderator and prevent them from turning into signature spam megathreads.

There is an answer to that question, and it is very simple "reporting is a waste of time", and that is unfortunately the official position of some very influential members of the forum.

I once had a friend on this forum, or this platform rather,  that lost 500,000 BTC from a wallet hack....this was in 2011.

Half a million BTC hacked? Are you sure it wasn't about maybe 5000 or 50 000 BTC? I personally have not heard of such an event, and it is not even on this list -> List of Major Bitcoin Heists, Thefts, Hacks, Scams, and Losses
2846  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-01-26] Goldman Sachs Described Bitcoin As Best Performing Asset of 2023 on: January 30, 2023, 11:09:28 AM
@bbc.reporter, we always remember our "friend" Jamie Dimon who was very harsh and negative about Bitcoin, then he changed his mind and literally apologized saying that he was wrong, only to recently take his original position again. For me, this is not very logical behavior, because Bitcoin today is the same as it was in 2018, nothing has changed in the way it works, but obviously the interests of someone or something have changed.

It is to be assumed that a lot of unbelievers will begin to slowly convert this or the next year, because it is difficult (and unprofitable) to swim against the current - but unfortunately for all of them, the internet remembers everything, you just have to look a little into the past.

Thing is, creation of alt farm accounts is in the interest of bounty managers because if they even set a Jr Member rank (let alone Member) as a minimum requirement to join, they would soon be out of work. They need numbers to show to their clients, and without alt farms numbers would be too low.

I completely agree with you here and I have written several times that part of the problem is in how different managers approach the whole process. If profit is in the first place (and it is evident that it is), then everything else is secondary, including the fact that they take participants who do not deserve to do such things, which means that the problems with spam and promoting various suspicious projects are solely their responsibility.

The forum could put an end to it if it wanted to and make rules that would make such things impossible, but the fact that the scam is not moderated opens the door wide for all who deal with bounty campaigns to do whatever comes to their mind.
2848  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Still in a Consolidation Phase, Can the Market Be Predicted? on: January 30, 2023, 10:33:11 AM
@Welsh, our thinking makes sense, although we should always take into account that the future certainly holds some (at this moment) hard-to-predict events that can significantly influence how the price will be formed in relation to how it is formed today. We can predict some things to a certain extent, but let's say we can't know if there will be a few new Saylors in the future who will decide to transfer all their wealth to Bitcoin, which at first looks like a positive adaptation to some, but it also hides a potential danger in the form of the fact that each of them can sell at any time and thus influence the price. In addition, any such individual or company can be hacked at any time, which can also cause panic among all other investors.

I can think of another element that can play a significant role, which is a physical ETF that has not yet come to life in the US, and which could significantly affect the price of BTC in a positive but also a negative sense. You may have already read it, but there is an interesting reflection on that topic by Antonopolous, where our admin @theymos also gave his answer.
2849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it safe to acquire Bitcoin without having the basic knowledge? on: January 30, 2023, 10:14:57 AM
Mistake number one, don't talk to your neighbors about such things - I talk to my neighbors about the weather, football or some harmless topics and I don't think of discussing what someone will do with their money.

Now OP is in a bad spot. If they refuse to help the neighbor, they will seem rude and the neighbor might do mistakes on their own and blame the OP for introducing them to Bitcoin but not helping with handling it. If OP agrees to handle coins on neighbours behalf, they will have an added headache of managing someone's money free of charge. And if OP simply teaches the neighbor how to use Bitcoin, they will still be responsible if the neighbor makes a serious mistake and losses the coins, or even if Bitcoin just crashes and the neighbor panic sells.

It seems that way, but there is still a chance for them to get out of this situation. Personally, I would try the approach of being honest and explaining to the neighbor that I do not want to be responsible for his money, and I would emphasize all the risks involved in such an investment. Another way would be to actually admit that I am also a fairly newbie who has read about all of this online, and that therefore I cannot help him with all of this.

What is important is to know that there is always a way out of every situation, you just need to know how to find it and then be ready to say and do everything to protect your interests. There is no doubt that it is easy to mess up, and much harder to clean up behind.
2850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it safe to acquire Bitcoin without having the basic knowledge? on: January 29, 2023, 03:30:10 PM
I was talking to a neighbour within the weekend and suddenly he grew so much passion in wanting to invest but now the problem is that his wanting me do this for him with excuses of not having the basic knowledge and I've told him to Google and do his own research about it.

Mistake number one, don't talk to your neighbors about such things - I talk to my neighbors about the weather, football or some harmless topics and I don't think of discussing what someone will do with their money.

I want to know if it's safe to buy Bitcoin without having the basic knowledge of it ?

Generally not, but let's say that someone who knows almost nothing about Bitcoin decides to buy it for, say, $100 - all he has to do is register on CEX, send $100 from his bank account and buy BTC in that amount. At some point in the future, he can remember that he made that investment, log on to CEX and find his BTC, which he can then sell and withdraw fiat to his bank account.

Of course, every CEX is subject to hacking or an exit scam, so it's a risk accepted by those who aim for simplicity and at the same time don't even have basic knowledge.
2851  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Still in a Consolidation Phase, Can the Market Be Predicted? on: January 29, 2023, 03:00:20 PM
The market will never be predictable, and never has been. At least, to a fine degree.

I agree that in the short term, many are just speculating and guessing, especially those who are not very good at interpreting TA, which is not a reliable source of information anyway, although it can give some good indications in which direction the market could move. For those who trade on a daily basis, it will always be a challenge to predict what will happen in such a short period of time, and because of this, most of them mostly make losses.

Now, over the long term I'd be pretty confident in predicting that Bitcoin will continue to be adopted, and less Bitcoin will be injected into circulation, and therefore the price of Bitcoin will increase. However, that's a pretty vague prediction, but is the most accurate. When, users start getting into the nitty gritty, and trying to accurately determine price movements in the short term, often it's not based on anything, but correlation. Which, has proven to be a rather suspect metric to base predictions on.

I think that this is one assumption that most people agree on, because everything stems from the fact that Bitcoin has a limited supply, that every 4 years a halving occurs, which reduces the flow of new BTC by 50%, and that the demand should increase over time, and available coins for trading should be in smaller and smaller amounts. I would venture to say that some things will be much clearer in less than 10 years when 99% of all BTC will be mined, although the ratio of what is already in circulation and what is still left is far on the side of already mined coins.
2852  Economy / Economics / Re: The Economist: 335000 people could "freeze to death" in Europe on: January 29, 2023, 02:31:44 PM
Well the stats are slowly making their way out to the media despite all the censorship that they are enforcing in Europe to prevent these things from coming out. Even THE propaganda machine BBC is reporting on them (BBC news at 10) reported 7409 died of cold in UK last month.

This is one of the mildest winters in Europe and I hate to repeat myself because I have already written what I think about the fact that hundreds of thousands of people will freeze because there will not be enough electricity, gas or any other energy source. Instead of reading what the members of this forum write (and there are a lot of them from Europe), you think that any media is a relevant source of information - and if by any chance you don't find what you want, you think it's censorship...

People are freezing in some other parts of the world, but that's not an interesting topic, is it?

Each year, more than 100,000 people die from cold in the United States, and 13,000 in Canada — more than 40 cold deaths for every heat death. The same pattern holds, including in countries not typically associated with frigid winters. In India, cold deaths outnumber heat deaths 7 to 1. Globally, 1.7 million people die of cold each year, dwarfing heat deaths (300,000).

@pooya87, you are asking questions in vain, because the OP got a permanent ban for plagiarism, and even if he hadn't, I sincerely doubt that he would be able to answer your questions.

China is one of the biggest players globally, and whether someone likes it or not, the world needs their cheap labor and logistics. It is true that some countries have been wary of technology coming from China for a long time, because it is nothing new that they install spy equipment in some products - and some even say that in this way they are literally spying on the world on a level that is hard to describe.
2854  Other / Meta / Re: Some Newbie ~ Membar got nice rank through pumpkin contest on: January 29, 2023, 11:52:41 AM
At least most of them really deserved those merits, you think is easy burning time to carve those things?

It was certainly not easy for some, because we can see from the examples that some participated with more accounts and therefore had a lot more work to do with carving more than one pumpkin. In addition, it is not about stone or wood that is processed, but about an ordinary pumpkin.

A very simple solution for all future contests is to make it impossible to give merit in such threads and then we will not have the need to discuss such things.
2855  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My son, daughter, nephew wants to know about Bitcoin on: January 29, 2023, 11:38:42 AM
My opinion is that everyone should decide on the risks that can arise from Bitcoin being banned in their country, considering what kind of punishments can be expected for those who do something illegal. On the other hand, Bitcoin is designed so that it can be used without the authorities knowing that we are using it, but then we need to keep a low profile and try to stay under the radar.

The OP obviously has a situation where he lives with many family members and information is difficult to control in such a case, so he should be much more careful not to come into conflict with the law. Additionally, if his country bans cryptocurrencies, then he is probably blacklisted by most CEX, which means he has to use a VPN to access them, which is just another added risk.

After seeing the OP's topic, I literally immersed myself in his lifestyle. His whole farming journey, I think, started with a pumpkin contest. One OP managed to get out of the water dry, and this only confirms that he works as a family.

The same picture came to my mind, but unfortunately it's not only the people who are trying to earn something who are to blame, there is a lot of responsibility on all those who allow them to do it - and here I mean above all the attitude of the forum and those behind the bounty campaigns. Even if only one rule were introduced that participation in bounty campaigns can only be from Member rank and above, it would prevent the creation of farm alt accounts.
2856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest in Bitcoin now so you don't have to regret it later. on: January 29, 2023, 11:20:36 AM
I'm furious at myself for not purchasing bitcoin sooner. Though I'm a happy man now because I can now smile at my wallet.
---
Invest now, so you will not regret it later.

This is just another thread about regretting that someone didn't buy Bitcoin when it was only worth a few hundred dollars, but what is the use of it when time cannot be turned back. Even if you had invested then, can you say with certainty that you wouldn't have sold 2 or 4 years later and that today you wouldn't still be furious that you did it?

You say "invest now?", but what about those who have no money, or who do not understand what they are investing in?
2857  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who else have my kind of mindset for Bitcoin 2023 on: January 28, 2023, 04:47:27 PM
Bitcoin have show quite a lot of traction lately even though there have been many challenges in the past few months in 2022, the the year 2023 have been filled some exciting chart outlook where Bitcoin shown a lot of green signal of more demand compare to the red negative chart that flood the chart through out last year.

Every year is good for Bitcoin, it just depends if you are a beginner who wants to buy as cheap as possible, or if you are someone who bought in the past and wants to sell at a higher price. What is always wrong is to be under the impression that this will be a good year because the beginning is good, although there is a saying that the day is known by how good the morning was Smiley

WHAT IS YOU CURRENT BTC MINDSET:
2023 is the year I found my confidence in bitcoin as I have not check the price of Bitcoin for the past 80 hours, since I am now fully into long term holding giving myself, a timeframe of 2-3 years before looking back on the price but what I will do is to accumulate more Bitcoin as chances present itself.

Your mindset should have nothing to do with such insignificant things as whether you will look at the price of BTC today once or ten times as if it has anything to do with whether you think Bitcoin is good or bad at some point. If you didn't look at the price in the next 2-3 years to know when is the right time to sell (assuming that's your goal), how would you choose the right moment to take profit?

Imagine a situation where you don't look at the price for 3 years, and then you realize that we are in a bear market again Roll Eyes
2858  Other / Meta / Re: New bitcointalk rank? 🔥 on: January 28, 2023, 04:22:28 PM
For example :

Legendary (airdropped) remains the same as before.
Legendary achieved without airdropped merits (coin color change).
Legendary who earned over 1000 merits after airdropped merits - maybe call them Legendary Veteran.
It is too complicated and makes forum ranks, badges look more messy. I don't support it.

I visited some other forums as a guest and saw their ranks, badges are abundant, unnecessary colorful and messy so I don't think I need it in Bitcointalk.

It's not that the forum has too many Legendary members that my idea would look "unnecessarily colorful and messy" if nothing would change for some, others would get a change in the color of one coin, and the third would get the title of Legendary Veteran. I think that this idea is much more acceptable than that of depriving some Legendary members of that rank if they have not earned x amount of merit in x years or something similar.
2859  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin might reach $30,000 in the first half of 2023 and $50,000 in the second on: January 28, 2023, 04:04:15 PM

Bitcoin might reach $30,000 in the first half of 2023 and $50,000 in the second

From same article"According to analysts, there is a good possibility that Bitcoin will experience a bullish surge. As per experts, Bitcoin will keep growing in popularity in 2023, and if key factors stay the very same, this trend should continue into 2024. When Bitcoin hits its crucial support, it is known to recover. At the end of 2023, the price range of US$32,000 is anticipated to be broken.

Your title and what is in the article from which you draw information contradict each other, because the title claims that $30k will be reached in the first half of 2023, and even $50k in the second half, while the article says only $32k, which should be reached by the end of this year.

Of course, you're just using the data of a bunch of thrown speculations, but what does a professor from Sussex University know about Bitcoin, as well as all those "experts" who boast of good numbers when the market is in the green, and bad numbers when the market is in the red... You will still have to wait for that "moon" to happen, because everything below the last ATH is just a recovery, and I personally expect a real bull run only next year.

If you were in my shoes, what would be the best advice you would give yourself and adhere to in this instance?

You've been doing a job you don't like for the past 4 years, and it didn't occur to you to look for a new job during that period? In my opinion, that would be the most reasonable solution, far better than quitting your job and relying on that other source of income that you didn't specify, but if that other source is in signature campaigns, then don't even think about quitting your job.

No matter how you look at it, two sources of income are always better than one, and it's unlikely that you'll run out of both at the same time.
