You can choose any index, even the price of property and possibly the best would be a commodities index. They all tell the same story: while growth is stagnant and there has been a massive real economic impact from COVID, the cannons wielded by the central banks are sprouting all the printed money and that goes to either paying debts, buying goods, saving or - most commonly - into stocks investments 401k's and the like. With the massive amount of index investing, this graph is only natural.
2882  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin allows tax evaders, Please pay attention.... on: December 02, 2021, 09:07:44 PM
Bitcoin is perfectly useful for tax evasion, as it is the US dollar, diamonds and many other stuff that has value. Tax evasion is not as much about choosing the vehicle as it is about actually willing to take the risk of doing it. The relation with bitcoin is that people who made a decent fortune with bitcoin may decide that they do not wish to pay taxes to a government that somehow did not put any into it and only gets the rewards. In that case, crypto is useful because it allows you to be pseudo anonymous and perhaps changing your fiscal residency before cashing out.
2883  Economy / Economics / Re: Debate: Bitcoin vs Gold with Anthony Scaramucci and Peter Schiff on: December 02, 2021, 09:04:22 PM
Kind of the arguments that are used to diminish bitcoin are actually counter arguments. Example: bitcoin is just a string of numbers. Sure, and gold is just a metal with not that many applications other than looking good and making great electrical contacts. The problem is that we are so used to certain things such as the money and gold that people even believe that these actually have any intrinsic value on themselves other than the one that comes from adoption, supply and demand. It takes a mental leap to break from that and not everyone is able to take it.
2884  Economy / Economics / Re: Introducing a state-issued cryptocurrency on: December 02, 2021, 02:19:20 PM
I do not think much about state issues cryptos. At the end of the day these are no more than the already existing electronic cash in the sense that it can be printed and miraculously multiplied by the banking system. It may carry also a loss of privacy and the main positive effect might be for the unbanked that could possible get an account on a central bank rather than having to go through intermediaries that always take their cut.

The digital Euro, Yuan or USD do not make much of a difference in my strategy with crypto nor outside.
2885  Economy / Economics / Re: Fuel prices hitting an eight year high on: December 02, 2021, 02:16:45 PM
Currently all the market is looking at Omicron variant. This may have a strong effect in the price of oil if it is effectively confirmed to be a variant of concern for OCDE economies and for China. If that is the case, the oil will go down, not severely due to the already not that good supply lines, but probably enough to pinch the bubble. In any other case or scenario, the price is set to be even higher during at least 1 and perhaps up to 2 years while production and energy mixes adjust themselves to the new situation.
2886  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto casino key features!? Looking for a players advice! on: December 02, 2021, 02:13:39 PM
There are several studies out there that will tell you that players tend to value very positively any freebie that allows them to play for longer rather than other types of deposit or recharge bonuses. There are other elements that are absolutely necessary such as building trust and having a good promotion project. Even the best cannot do much unless they let themselves be known. Other than these two, the more crypto you accept and the more coins they can use, the better for your project as you are expanding your user base at a not too high cost.
2887  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there still original ideas for innovation in Slot games? on: December 02, 2021, 02:10:22 PM
Perhaps the thing about old games is that most people want them to actually look like them the way they are. However you are right, there is a new generation of gamers that is used to more sophistication in entertainment and media and that use mobile devices all the time and those could be the cornerstones to build a more interesting slots game. You can either go "retro" and try to mimic the original machinery feeling of the old slots or embrace digital and create plenty of 3D and metauniverses facebook style.
2888  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot providers... which one is the best?! on: December 02, 2021, 02:03:33 PM
Hi, I am missing here Playbetr.com, a crypto based site with a number of slot games. I think that is particularly suited for those who like to play exclusively in crypto and do not want to get into platforms that make the process too complex and also like big sign-in bonuses in the form of free-spins. It supports 15 cryptos, including those supporting privacy oriented protocols and the site was renovated in July to include around 400 games. For those into sportsbooks, that is there too.
2889  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: December 02, 2021, 01:59:13 PM
The only game tomorrow is Real Madrid - Athletic Bilbao. The reason is that this is the missing game of both teams and it is scheduled for tomorrow. Real Madrid seem like the absolute favourite team here without doubt. They have had a great performance for a long time period. And they defeated one of their hardest opponents, Sevilla in their last game. But Athletic Bilbao are not in a similar condition. They haven't won a game for 5 weeks. They are out-of-form now and I think Real Madrid will be the winner here.

A great opportunity for Real Madrid to strengthen their lead. I think that Real Madrid should win today, but the victory is unlikely to be easy and we are unlikely to see many goals - judging by the statistics, Athletic has the best defense in the championship at the moment. They conceded only 10 goals in 14 matches. We can say that today Real will have an exam on the ability to pass a strong defense.

And they should be taking every opportunity as they cannot really afford to leave out there the points that need to be taken not just from the very weakest of the rivals, but also from mid-table rivals such as the recent Athletic de Bilbao or even some more serious contender like Seville that may very well mark the difference between achieving the title of getting to the point in which you need to win the last three games and hope for someone else to fail. As of now, there seems to be a clear performance line, is just a question of keeping up and resisting.
2890  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2021/2022 on: December 02, 2021, 01:41:30 PM
Arsenal had one of their most comfortable games today against Newcastle. As Newcastle were at the last position in the league standings and had no victory yet, they seemed to be an easy prey. And Arsenal didn't surprise their supporters by winning the game with a certain result like 2-0. In fact, Arsenal would have scored a few more goals too. For example, they missed two big opportunities in the first half. Aubameyang literally missed a huge goal chance. But Newcastle were so bad that Arsenal still won the game without having much problem.
Yes, Newcastle's tournament results are terrible and the new owners of the club need to do something urgently, otherwise, instead of dreaming about building a team of superstars, they will need to do not so bright work to return the team to the Premier League. Therefore, a meeting with such an opponent cannot be an indicator of special strength, but still Arsenal lifted their spirits to some extent after the defeat from Liverpool in the previous round. However, in the next round he will face a much more difficult game away from Manchester United and there will already be a completely different level of resistance and stakes.

When the bad economics match the bad results it is not that much of a shock for the fans of New Castle. There are moments in which the clubs can only be as good as the underlying economy supporting them and this seems to be case. It does no only affect their ability to produce results by buying the players they need, but rather also the general morale of the team, that, in football is critical as well. This calls for a strong turnaround that may see the manager go.
2891  Economy / Economics / Re: Life Insurance and Blockchain on: December 01, 2021, 08:55:43 PM
I am afraid these companies are just on the business of filling patents around blockchain "just in case" and probably to prevent others from using it in the future. None of these proposals really adds anything nor justifies the use of blockchain. e.g.

Quote
Metlife who already did a blockchain platform that relates to Life Insurance.
Metlife already have a mobile app called Vitana, that utilized Ethereum to pay out claims to expectant mothers who contracted gestational diabetes.
they are also planning to create "LifeChain" a technology based that will benefit bereaved families, MetLife’s Singapore-based incubator LumenLab is collaborating with Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and NTUC Income (Income) on a platform of smart contracts known as ‘Lifechain’ to help loved ones quickly determine if the deceased was protected with a policy and automatically file a claim.

This is stupid. A webpage and a normal database serves exactly the same purposes. The disbursement is never going to be fully automated and the speed in claim processing is not improved by using blockchain - it would be much more improved having the right laws into place. All this is a bag of crap.
2892  Economy / Economics / Re: crypto for the development of local farmers...can.....? on: November 30, 2021, 09:19:09 PM
A million project out there link blockchain and tokens to the most bizarre projects, normally led by teams of guy in their 30's living in their parent's basements that would not stand a chance of finding financing even in the most generous venture capital subsidies led incubator.

Among the thousand things you need to ask yourself about any project, one of the first is "how does blockchain or crypto make this project better". Example, I am going to implement a solar energy charger for AI driven electric cars with a token". How the heck does blockchain help any of those technologies in a way that money does not do better? The answer is most of the times none.
2893  Economy / Economics / Re: Another One Bites the Dust: Entebbe Int. Airport falls to China's Debt Trap on: November 29, 2021, 10:57:28 PM
There's always the question of why you'd sign something you don't intend to uphold though, and signing away your only international airport doesn't sound great (although the pandemic probably made it harder to repay the loan too).

Airports actually aren't that profitible too so I'm surprised they're usable for collateral (I saw a study saying half of the airports in the UK were subsidised by the government - although it was on sustainability).

Which has a very simple answer, the one taking the money is not the same as the one that has to pay the debt. In essence it is illegitimate debt that tyrants use to get the funds and send them to their accounts in tax havens while the country is left to pay the debt. China know this perfectly well and their Gov. is super-happy to use to their advantage the corruption and disarray of others to their own advantage. And i think it is not legit, but a country that is corrupted at large has no defence against this.
2894  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you think does this Cities have that we dont? on: November 28, 2021, 06:12:27 PM
I can tell you just about a few of them:

San Francisco was able to create a hub of technology and a go-to place for innovation as a first mover. Many other cities have tried to replicate this, but is just not possible - it has to grow organically from a certain economic, political and cultural environment.

London has an abnormally oversized financial sector and two of the world class universities nearby. Money, talent and fintech grow well together. Needless to say that Londoners have an insatiable appetite for the next gadget or service out there that can either make their life better or make them look better.

Miami and Florida in general have the University of Central Florida and other educational centres that may not be the firsts you would hear about but are certainly doing their job in creating high-paying ready individuals and feeding the accelerators and incubators, second only to California.
2895  Economy / Economics / Re: New COVID strain may affect crypto valuation on: November 27, 2021, 08:11:38 PM
I would also add that this overlaps with the day CME Bitcoin futures expire, hence one of the days the price drops anyway.
The fear related to COVID and that fall of stocks has probably amplified today's dump.

That could be a factor, but the fact that most stocks in Nasdaq and SP500 drop means that it is probably not strongly correlated to the bitcoin specific futures dates. It is worth mentioning that, contrary to other occasions, the indexes have not recovered significantly like it sometimes happens, but rather stood lower than the previous day. My understanding is that hospitality dependant companies are certainly going to be affected.

My diagnose for bitcoin, quick drop for maybe a week?
2896  Economy / Economics / Re: Visa is getting more interested in Crypto on: November 26, 2021, 04:47:47 PM

The best thing about adoption by Paypal is that it generates a need for other competitors to address the market. Visa, Mastercard, Amex they all need to jump into the ship forcibly or risk the competitors gain a prevailing market quota position that may be impossible or very expensive to address and win later on if one stablishes itself as the category leader and the go-to brand for it.

And what is more, most large companies out there that are into the payments arena are new and growing so they would address this need with even greater impulse and the same strategic need. I am talking Amazon Payments, Google Pay and any other that wishes to be an payments processor.
2897  Economy / Economics / Re: Will we see new ATH this year? on: November 26, 2021, 04:43:07 PM
In light of the detection and unusual nervousness caused in the market by the new COVID variant that seem to be coming from Africa, there are two scenarios that may arise: a quick recovery of prices upon vaccines being effective and the variant not that lethal which may point to an ATH in December or the opposite, restrictions to travel, health issues and lethality that will yield the opposite effect. What seems clear is that the market is not going to be stable in a while and it may be worth for those who are heavily invested to hedge with derivatives.
2898  Economy / Economics / Re: Prospective retailer on: November 26, 2021, 04:37:25 PM
I suspect the OP thinks they can set up an exchange and walk away to let it
function itself, all they have to do is collect the fees generated from it.
...

Oh, that was it. Well, that is not that different from any other start-up and normally does not fall into the passive earning category but rather quite the contrary, something you would need to put a lot of money and effort into and would only become profitable (if ever) in a long time.

I think people are getting crazy about the whole financial freedom and passive earnings thing. The people that have been into that for decades are called "dividend investors" and they tend to buy dividend yielding companies at low or reasonable prices and build their passive over time, rather than trying to get into dire situations investing in untested chains or wild projects.
2899  Economy / Economics / New COVID strain may affect crypto valuation on: November 26, 2021, 04:32:58 PM
I am observing today something similar to what happened in 2020 but at a micro-scale. The announcement of a new COVID variant that may be resistant to current vaccines has sent the Dow and the S&P down the drain, particularly airlines and other travel hospitality linked business. Zoom stocks are up, mining and raw materials down,... It looks like a repetition also in bitcoin price with a plunge that may be ongoing.

For those of you that are newer on hodling, just calm down, this is nothing new, bitcoin will be there tomorrow and, likely, rebounding after the initial collapse caused by the stop-loss orders triggering of the first days.
2900  Economy / Economics / Re: Why criminals prefer cash (Fiat) on top of crypto? on: November 26, 2021, 04:28:00 PM
Of course, the reason is simple, namely fear that if the money stored in crypto will be of no value, as we know that there is a lot of negative news about crypto, namely if we invest, we will lose and lose money because the value is not clear, this is what makes many countries afraid to invest. legalize crypto so criminals don't want to save into crypto.

I do not think they believe in crypto in the same terms as a hodler would be, like a future investment and a store of value, but I do think that they see the merit of many cryptos being anonymous or pseudo-anonymous and that is obviously a tool of any shady trade. The fact that they may get paid in bitcoin without having to carry around money is clearly on the wish list of any dealer of banned or restricted stuff but that does not mean that they cannot convert quickly to fiat as needed - they are using crypto for convenience not for true understanding.
