Earlier this week on Monday, an article was published on a state-owned media outlet in Venezuela, one which summed up bitcoin as a currency used by criminals and terrorist groups. The article was published by Corporación Venezolana de Televisión or VTV, a public network and state-owned broadcaster directly under the purview of the administration of the ministry of Popular Power for Communication and Information, in Venezuela.

2885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satori Coin: A Physical Bitcoin in Japan on: March 18, 2016, 05:21:43 PM
The Sartori Coin will introduce people in Japan to bitcoin in a unique way.

The Corbett Report, an independent, listener-supported alternative news source in Japan, featured Yoshi Kan of Raimu Inc., a Japanese import company, who said he is preparing the release the Sartori Coin, a physical bitcoin.

Kan said he and his brother became interested in bitcoin after reading a book called “The Creature from Jekyll Island.” He said they realized bitcoin is like digital gold in that it is money not based on debt. “It has a great future, we thought.”

“Bitcoin exists only on the Internet, but we wanted to spread the understanding of bitcoin among the Japanese people,” Kan said. They imported Japan’s first bitcoin ATM in 2014 but soon realized the ATM concept is too advanced for most Japanese people.

The Sartori coin carries a small amount of bitcoin. Each 0.001 BTC (about 50 cents USD) is loaded onto each coin. He made the value so to make it nearly impossible to money launder, tax evade, or fund illegal activities with it. “We wanted just enough so that just in case bitcoin goes to zero, somebody’s going to lose sleep over it,” Kan said.

2889  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling can be profitable in the long run! It is possible! on: March 18, 2016, 01:26:17 AM
This is a response to the threads:
Topic: Everyone looses in the long run  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1199744.0
Topic: Can gambling be profitable in long term ? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1186546.0

Yes gambling can be profitable in the long run. It is a mathematical possibility. I`m not a gambling shill, but i`m very frustrated when people put out misleading information. The truth is important.

So here are a few facts:
-Gambling can be profitable in the long term for the gambler
-Gambling cannot be profitable in the long term for the gambler
-Gambling can be profitable in the long term for the house
-The house can go bankrupt

All of these 4 scenarios could happen. They are not impossible. It all depends on luck.

Take the following scenario for long term profitability for the gambler:

1000 gamblers gamble 100$ every day on slotmachine. The house edge is 1%. The total money wagered is 100,000$ every day.

The house makes on average: 1000$/day
So the rest of the 99,000$ is changing hands between gamblers.

So the following scenario could happen: 400 gamblers win consistently for 1 year for example, and 600 gamblers lose consistently for 1 year.

Now the 400 gamblers wager 40,000$ and the 600 gamblers wager 60,000$. The total profit of the 400 gamblers thus is 59,000$ since 1000$ goes to the house.

Thus divide that by 400, each gambler wagers 100$, and wins 147.5$ every single day for 1 year.

Or it could be that 200 of that 400 wins only 73.5$/day consistently, and the other 200 wins 295$ /day consistently.

Or many other, infinitely many other variations of this scenario.

Look it's all possible, only luck will tell, so don't tell me that winning consistently on the long term is impossible.

In infinity all gamblers would lose, and only the house would win (if it doesnt get wiped out by some big jackpots in a row), no doubt about that, but how much does the average gambler play 5-10 years? In that time range this scenario that I described is totally possible.

In the example above, your probability of winning long term is:  (40% * the probability of the probability distribution happening that is required to have the 1 year consistency).

This is not necessarly accurate representation, but it's an illustration how a negative expectancy game's probability distribution looks like.
Gamblers winning is a tail event with low probability, nontheless it's mathematically possible to happen:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probability_distribution#Continuous_probability_distribution
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_distribution

You just need to calculate that area and you got the probability of your scenario set to happen:

You can calculate that area:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-test

Now this doesn't mean that you, the gambler will win, you can end up in the 600 gambler group and always lose. However if you luck is good, then you can win consistently.

Basically it all comes down to luck, lucky is the only variable that determines weather you are a loser or a winner.

So I wish you all good luck gamblers!

good analyze, senior and pro gambler will do this for make gambling have better mindset for newbie Grin
but i also agree that gambling can used for long term profit, but it will not same profit each game.
2890  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Online gambling or offline gambling at a casino ? on: March 18, 2016, 01:24:33 AM
Online gambling or offline gambling at a casino ? Or online live gambling ?? Which do you prefer and why ?
Personally i really should stay away from gambling unless im the house xP and to me offline gambling
seems the most dangerous and risky.
i will more like online gambling, its low external risk,i mean we dont need angry to people on our side,or jealous to them. but online also have a risk,we can easily lost our money in a second.

2896  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: United Bitcoin project on: March 18, 2016, 01:03:30 AM
I wonder if those quotations from Satoshi are real or just made up bullshit. The project seems like a plan, not sure how many will be happy with the idea of having a central authority interfere while making the technical decisions.

They want to restrict the source code to a limited number of specialists and not keep it open source anymore.Definitely something fishy here.

Quote
Of course, such power requires strong leadership skills and proven industry force. United Bitcoin knows the only nation and leader deserving such honour:

Vladimir Putin

Was this sarcasm ? Couple of days back Russian Federation started taking strict action against miners.Couple of them got arrested as well..
yes i also wondering about that quote, but i hope its really from Satoshi Nakamoto. lets be positive, this project should be apreciated, even we all know that russia have some bad news about bitcoin, but we all not wrong if support this project.

2899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A teen is given $1K to invest into Bitcoin - what would you recommend for them? on: March 18, 2016, 12:51:29 AM
Let's say a young teenager is given some coming-of-age money from their family, and is interested in growing that money through Bitcoin. Without encouraging him/her to invest in risky strategies, what are some lower risk methods of growing a Bitcoin portfolio with a hypothetical gift of $1K?
is this just imagine?or in real life this is happen?
lets say its really happen,i would suggest that teenager for keep his bitcoins in wallet, and wait for price increase,i think this is the simple way to get profit, teenager is not too smart for trading or choosing legit investement site or place.
2900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First major bank has embraced bitcoin adding it to their services on: March 18, 2016, 12:47:12 AM
Here's the article:

http://bravenewcoin.com/news/retail-bank-integrates-bitcoin-service/

Quote
Following a four month pilot program, USAA members can now view the balance of their Coinbase account, alongside the rest of their USAA accounts and financial services.

The financial services group made a major investment in Coinbase, during the US$75 million Series C fundraising round in January 2015, alongside The New York Stock Exchange and BBVA Ventures.

In order for USAA customers to add their Coinbase account, they only need to go to their accounts summary page, add the account, and sign into Coinbase. From there onwards, Coinbase wallet and vault balances will show up inside of their USAA online and mobile accounts, underneath the “My Accounts Summary” page.

USAA = United Services Automobile Association
good news, its only can view balance account from coinbase wallet?
i hope sometime some banks will adding bitcoins as major services, not part of their services, but this is good move
