I think the negative price activity since the "update" is a reflection that what we got really was just a restatement of what we already knew  as opposed to any real meaningful updates...

I think the negativity has more to do with misconceptions than the roadmap per se.

I also think that the mysterious whale who keeps dumping on our news seriously swayed the tone on this thread about the roadmap.

Anyway, that's all in the past. Down with misconceptions, up with the truth, and up with XC!

2902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 21, 2014, 02:00:38 PM

Yes, I agree. Most interesting thing I found was the new Wallet UI pre-view! together with this link Drasticraven.deviantart.com I am pretty XCited

Also the marketing tab seems nice. Could we sometimes get some sneak peaks to keep us in the loop?

Yeah, I'm super-excited about the upcoming UI. It's gonna be awesome.

I've actually been working on possibilities for more sensible menu layouts, since the current one is clunky and coin control is unnecessarily confusing.

But my current favourite is the upcoming tech to added to the final Rev 2 update. ;-)

Do you know what kind of tek will be delivered? can you give us an Inch? Smiley. I was just wondering as well, which version of the wallet is now in the TOR download for the Stick? and can you update it from the TOR Stick how this will work in the future?

Hmm... what can I disclose?

I'll tell you that it's very smart and will nullify a certain attack vector.

I'll tell you that no other coin has done it.

As for the TOR Stick, you'll all be able to start ordering it soon enough, and when you receive it, it should have Rev 3 on it. :-)

2903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 21, 2014, 01:51:43 PM
I am keen to discuss the new roadmap as well, although it is not really that different to the old one.. As pointed out by others though, when there are literally no timings whatsoever on it, its more like a shopping list to me than a roadmap.. Hoping we do get some rough forward looking guidance in the next update..

Synechist you are doing a great job as usual though.

I think that the appropriate way to look at the roadmap is to simply pick out the new information on it.

An inappropriate way to interpret it is to first set up unrealistic expectations (in this case, expecting dates although we made no mention that we'd supply some), and then to get disappointed when the roadmap doesn't meet these unrealistic expectations.

I mean, why set oneself up for disappointment?

The biggest pity for me is the almost complete lack of discussion about the new information we included. That's just crazy.

For heaven's sake, can we all just drop the question?

You have some constructive things we as a community can discuss?

How about the updated roadmap?

To date nobody's really discussed the new info on it.

Hi Synechist, May I ask if in Rev 2.45 You can start already to receive payments as an xnode or this will be left to Rev 2.5?

Plus in the Anon Transaction Readme was stated that to make anon transaction you cannot have more than 100Xc in the wallet and you can send just 10XC. Can you confirm if this is still the case and if this will change in Rev 2.5?

Thank you.

Fees for processing payments have not yet been set. However there was a discussion on the forum last week where everyone agreed it would be best to keep fees low and thereby incentivise users. Nodes would then get more volume and thus make the same income, yet users would pay less.

You can have more than 100XC in your wallet, but we advise caution while we continue to tweak and test the Rev 2 features.

After all, we have a very strong desire to avoid anyone losing money.

Presently you can only send 10XC anonymously. This is an artificial, temporary restriction for the same reason: we really don't want a single XC to get lost. It's incredibly new tech. There's no reason to risk anyone's funds, and adding risk won't help us test the tech.

Thank you for the Reply very Clear Smiley Keep it up Smiley and sorry if yesterday I sounded as an ass I was just a bit confused on what we were with the project.

Anytime :-).  - and no worries. These misconceptions take on a life of their own so easily once even a few people start repeating them to each other. Call it a bad case of hyperreality. It's no single person's fault.

[opinion which I do not dispute, about the foolishness of big media buys for XC at this stage]

Again, you entertain the possibility that we don't know what we're doing, yet Rob has done media buys before and therefore does know what he's doing.

You further allow this possibility to create the further imaginary possibility that Rob might be advising us to do big media buys. This is not based on any information we've given out.

Finally this is putting across the possibility that we're out of our depth/are going for an ineffectual marketing strategy/wasting large amounts of money - all based on what? - our having announced that we have a "digital / social media strategist"?

I just don't see how any of this computes. Your entire speculation above is very far from the reality of our upcoming public launch.

I wish I could disclose the actual plans to you, since this would dissolve all this immediately. But of course I can't. But seriously, just rest assured that:

- we have a talented digital / social media strategist.

End.

That's all we said. I just don't know where all this other stuff came from.

Ok, cool. I might be jumping the gun. I just see media planner buyer, and BIG plans, and considering the current stage of this project, my brain starts throwing out major warning signals.

Rob is very talented. As long as your not going mass market with a large portion of the budget then I take back everything I've said.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks Mwalshe. Much appreciated.

You're welcome to PM me about the upcoming launch too if you have any concepts/connections that might enhance it.

[endless repetition of the misconception that the full Rev 2 is not out]

The full Rev 2 came out on 7/7/14. Come on.

Read the past 2 pages and you'll get that, never mind the majority my posts for the past few weeks.

ok, there was that "a-lot-of-btc-bounty"?

The big bounty is for Rev 3. Again, this misconception is being endlessly recycled because people don't check their facts and instead just believe all the crap floating around on this thread.

i don't know where is the fact bank Cheesy

PS: you comment about reading the last 2 pages on this thread is kinda in contradiction with that xD

Who said there is a fact bank?

You don't need a fact bank in order to check your facts.

But you do need to check your facts.

Try reading my post history next time. It'll help.

2910  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 21, 2014, 01:12:08 PM
There is no need to hire a PR firm, this technology is still super niche, you'll waste a lot of money splashing around small fish in a big pond. If the media buys are outside the BTC niche (coindesk, newsbtc, cointelegraph, /r/bitcoin) than they are, in my opinion, pissing in the wind.

Who said we're doing any big media buys?

To repeat: we hired a "digital / social media strategist". That's all.

Somehow someone wrongly got the idea that this means we're doing big media buys.

For heaven's sake, can we all just drop the question?

2911  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 21, 2014, 01:03:35 PM

For those who still haven't got the message about Rev 2, I'll say it again and keep saying it:

The full Rev 2 has been out since 7/7/14

The final Rev 2 will just be refinements and UI improvements

Rev 2 includes an unprecedented world-first: trustless mixing

Rev 2 is multinode multipath: transaction fragments are sent to multiple nodes and then mixed and forwarded trustlessly

Private transactions are multisig and nodes cannot steal coins

Every XC app is an Xnode

(You don't need 550XC to run an Xnode)

XC's anonymity level is ridiculously high. There's nothing like it.

So is there an incentive anymore in holding 550 XC or not?
[/quote]

You don't need 550XC any more.

We'll consider a minimum amount for other purposes and announce that at some point in the future.

But since mixing is now trustless, having money in your wallet does not improve security at all. Hence our dropping the 550XC minimum.

No offence to rob, but adding a media planner/buyer to the team isnt even on my top ten list of things that have been great about this coin. I know allot of media planners and buyers and honestly I don't see where they fit in a project like this.

Adding a person with a Rob's background is huge because:

- almost all Cryptocurrencies are run by crypto-geeks and coders and marketed accordingly.

- XC is for the mainstream and thus we need people who understand how to market to the mainstream.

- without quality marketing a coin will never make it to the mainstream.

So adding Rob Kremers is hugely important to XC's future. It's a major score, and the community reacted as such.

Media planners and buyers focus on paid media campaigns. A typical exposure campaign starts at $10,000 minimum. Even if he goes through an online RTB platform I don't see how he is going to target well enough to really get the XC story across in a cost effective way, and even if he could, paid advertising is something big companies do with multi million dollar budgets, XC is still asking people for donations. If we're going to waste all those donations on paid media instead of going through PR agencies like we are now, then me, like the people I know who do robs job, think its a massive waste of money.

Basicly, we don't have the money for it. We're not going to get a good cost per engagement ratio. This isn't coming from me, this is coming from ex colleagues of mine who work with brands such as Microsoft, MasterCard, Nike, Exxon mobile, and have extremely tight relationships technology side with companies like google and facebook.

Don't get me wrong, I love this project, but I don't think Dan understands marketing projects like this if he is looking for media planners and buyers when we don't have a budget.

Seriously, anyone in the industry would tell you this is a serious waste of money..

The thing is, we do know what you've just said.

And yet we think it's a fantastic idea to get Rob on board.

What does this suggest to you about our future marketing plans?

That you either

1) have a couple hundred thousand dollars in funding
2) that rob won't actually be doing paid media, and will be using his expertise doing something else.
3) or no offence, but your out of your depth

Please tell me its one or two.

All the marketing strategists I've spoken to think this is just a gimmick. And if its not, then I seriously doubt anyone in the team understands digital marketing at all. You don't run paid media campaigns with an unknown product to a extremely targeted audience unless you have a huge budget.

Paid media is usually one of the last things a company with a low budget should even consider.

I'm seriously open for discussion on this, but I really doubt anyone on the team, including rob, will be able to justify spending money on a paid media campaign for this project, its a complete waste of money.

Urghhhh. Just so you know, I love this project, I've been one of its biggest supporters. But this is crazy. Almost sucidal. If you think announcing rob is the biggest news yet then I'm inclined to sell my XC. It seriously announces a lack of understanding for the industry your trying to enter..

What confuses me about this is that you entertain the possibility that we don't know what we're doing, yet Rob Kremers has done media buys before and so clearly knows what he's doing and what this costs. So how does this compute for you?

Secondly we stated that Rob is here as a "digital / social media strategist" not simply a media buyer - but of course paid social media campaigns are going to be a feature.

Lastly your list of possible interpretations is not exhaustive, since you underestimate the connections we have, and thus the amount of leverage we can get without the usual budget. Or for free.

On way or another we're doing a big public launch. And we're doing it with Rob's expertise. And that's a reason to be confident, since Rob knows what he's doing.

So many pages.  Can someone give me Cliff Notes for the last couple of days?

A lot of derailing the thread with misinformation!

Oh, so everything is normal?

Yup. The only thing of significance that's happened is that we released an updated roadmap with the following new information on it:

- UI update at Rev 2 (that is, we're adding a tx progress bar and tx confirmation for privacy mode)

- Rev 3 UI preview at Rev 2.5

- Rev 2.5 is the point at which trustless mixing is merged with secure private messaging

- Additional tech update to xnodes in the Rev 2 phase (just to whet your appetites :-).

hi guys,

sorry for a noob question, since im not a technical guy and just an investor. I would like to stake my coins with MAC wallet. it seems that i was not able to locate the wallet.dat file since i want to copy that to a thumdrive to back it up. how would i locate it? thank you Smiley and is the wallet version on the xc official website for MAC right? thanks again.

Hey milkyway

Yes, use the app version on the website. It's the latest for Mac.

You should find the wallet.dat file in /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/XCurrency

I'm not a Mac user so if this is incorrect then hit reply.

Thank you Wink <3 appreciate it! so i just have to unlock my wallet and let it stake right? despite my labtop being off. i just have to open it some times?

Sure. :-) Glad it worked out.

Yes, unlock your wallet. But unlock it for staking only, so that your coins are protected.

To collect interest you'll only need to unlock your wallet every few days. You can ignore it otherwise.

Ideally use coin control to allocate 50 - 500 XC to separate addresses. This makes payouts more regular.

P.S. If you haven't already done this, check out the wallet how-to for info.

Man, whoever called out the mystery whale was dead on. Really strange activity the last few hours.

Same stuff that's been happening when we were hovering between 120-150k a few weeks ago.

Kind of pisses me off tbh lol, using the stability of the coin to his own ends.

Yeah. It's weird behaviour. The dumping is right after we release good news, which is the point at which the price is most likely to shoot upwards.

Remember when we announced Rob Kremers? Biggest news ever. Someone dumped about 10K.

So someone's clearly interested in keeping the price down.
