2901  Other / Meta / Re: Merrit? This got to be a joke. on: August 08, 2018, 06:03:53 PM
Do you know what's an even bigger joke? The fact that literally thousands of people are coming here to a forum about something they have little to no knowledge or interest in other than they heard you can earn easy money here. It's like signing up to a Lamborghini forum when you can't drive and don't even like cars. Why would anyone do that? Well, they sign up here to get paid of course and this is the only reason you're bothered about merit. Merit doesn't stop you from browsing or even posting here, but obviously you want to maximise profits as fast as possible and this is the entire issue in the first place because people sign up with dozens of accounts each just to farm accounts by spamming and bleed bounties for all they're worth. This is why merit was introduced and users are now rewarded for their quality contributions instead of rewarding the spam they could be bothered to make.

I see alot of people selling there merrit to whoever wants it, is this even legit?

Usually it isn't. I reckon most people who try sell merit are just scammers trying to fleece the naive and desperate, though of course there will be genuine sales by people looking to fill a gap in the market but the community usually leaves them appropriate feedback. There's nothing stopping you from doing this as well if you disagree with it.

It means people with multiple accounts can dominate bitcointalk, earn the most bounty rewards( multiple with more accounts) and can give merrit out to themselves and can get alot of bounty stakes, while other who do there best arent even able to join because they cant reach member status!

1) Merit is limited so they will run out of it very quickly. 2) People who get caught meriting their alts or "friends" usually get negative feedback. If you want to run the risk of having your accounts ruined all for the sake of a few merit points then you're playing with fire and dicing with death. 3). Make quality posts and you may one day receive enough merit to become a Member. You only need ten for that.

Even more annoying is the fact that members and above( not all of you ) just post crappy posts all over the place, and keep spamming away with no consequences. Its just sick, like in the real world, the rich get richer, its insane do something about it.
Greetings!  Undecided

You can't complain about greed when you only want a higher level account so you can in fact be like them and earn more. People who merely have a Hero account aren't the elite 1%. They're usually merely just people who've been here a lot longer and maybe you could say they earned their right for their rank.

------

Edit: I just went through your posts. They're not bad, but you're probably not going to get merit in mega threads where people are just saying the same thing over and over. I gave you a merit to help you on your way. Keep putting effort into your posts and you'll likely get some more but this shouldn't be expected.

thanks

It wouldn't surprise me if this account is hacked or purchased though. First posts are all in English and there's a huge gap from July 27, 2014 to August 04, 2016 when you made the above post and start talking in Chinese.

no i cant i have purchased this account and i can prove it if that helps

Nope. The opposite. I would say your chances of getting this account back now are next to zero (though even if you had a signed messages it wouldn't be much better odds giving the current climate of account recoveries). When did you purchase it? Recently? If so then they probably just locked it themselves (of the original owner did). This is why you shouldn't buy accounts.
2903  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-07] Bitcoin Speculators, Not Drug Dealers, Dominate Crypto Use Now on: August 08, 2018, 03:33:22 PM
It's more appropriate if you use "traders" rather than "speculators" as that what we really are.

Not necessarily. It depends on what you do with your coins. In my opinion, I would call traders people who are actively buying and selling for profit ie trading, whereas speculators are more like long term hodlers who are looking for big gains in the long term.  I wouldn't call myself a trader because I don't really do trades, but I do hold coins as a long term investment and I'm definitely speculating on the value being much higher in the near future than it is right now hence being a speculator.
2904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's English Premier League Football Pool £25 to join Prize Pot @ £725 on: August 08, 2018, 02:48:38 PM
24 people have paid but only 19 have signed up the superbru site so far (or joined the actual league). Don't forget to sign up there and put your scores in before Friday/Saturday. Check your PMs for details how to join the league, but I think you can join leagues at any point so just make sure your scores are submitted at least so you don't miss points.

Four users are still yet to pay:

ralle14
BitSat
Aleister Crowley
painwendir

Please pay ASAP so I can sort the prizes out.

CL is gonna start in a couple of months or so.  Should we be starting to promote that too?  I'm pretty sure at least 10 players in this pool will also join the CL one.

I'm cutting back on the sports bets after a bad season, so I'm gonna need these pools to at least make the games more interesting.  I don't bet that much per match, but the losses do stack up.  Lol.

I'll get a Champions League one going when this one has started. Give it a week or something so people can see whether they like this one and the superbru site.
2905  Other / Meta / Re: Most new accounts do not contribute anything on: August 08, 2018, 11:44:19 AM
How about an antidote to this along these lines:

let's make a new section "For real" where condition to participate would be similar to

1) have an old private key with a tx in 2015/2014/2013
2) have a current private key with at least 0.1BTC (a typical condition for exchanges' trollboxes)
3) ?

People will just end up just buying old addresses which are worthless to most people who have them, but you'll certainly create a new market for them with this suggestion. There would be better ways of doing this as well and I've made a couple recently: You could have special boards that are only available to users who received x amount of merit or users who have made x amount of reports. I think special hidden boards for users who have received a lot of merit or made a lot of reports would be a nice perk and the discussion in there (especially the merit board) would probably be a good way to ensure that only quality discussion goes on.
2906  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-07] Bitcoin Speculators, Not Drug Dealers, Dominate Crypto Use Now on: August 08, 2018, 11:24:12 AM
I'm actually surprised that they came out and said this. We know it to be true, but this 'but drug dealers use it' shtick seems to be their main point of attack and defamation and is going to be something politicians continue to use to discredit bitcoin whilst we also all still know that money is the best sort of anonymous currency and one preferred by drug dealers, yet surprise surprise this doesn't ever seem to be an issue.

Why only now? I reckon it has always been that way. Holders, which coins are obtained from buying, trading or mining, are also considered as speculators.

Also, the volumes of bitcoin used in the darknet drug trade were always overestimated by the news media to create FUD.

I would say the initial owners/users of bitcoin where the tech geeks and cryptography enthusiasts, but then the second wave of bitcoiners were probably libertarians and those who saw it as a great way to buy drugs or subvert state control etc. You can't deny that Silk Road had a huge impact on both the popularity and usage of bitcoin. In fact, I first heard about bitcoin when it was on the news after being mentioned as some sort of currency that you could buy drugs with which piqued my interest to investigate it more. Once I found out it was new idea for decentralised cash that doesn't rely on third parties to use I was sold. The rest is history.
2907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin might have been a FAILED experiment by the NSA - How funny would that be on: August 08, 2018, 10:59:08 AM
They create a decentralised currency that they can't control to control the money supply? How does that work exactly? I think if the NSA or America wanted to create something to overtake fiat then they'd create something that they had total control of and can directly manipulate, but the US already has something like that and it's called the USD which they would much rather people use. Let me know when barrels of oil start getting priced in bitcoin then you might be on to something.

As funny as it sounds, it is not. It has been developed by an anonymous group or my a person which goes by the name of Satoshi. failed attempt or not, the world is grateful for such an invention which has made the people's lives better.

And who is satoshi or this group?
2908  Other / Meta / Re: Are patrollers still a thing? on: August 08, 2018, 10:13:46 AM
550$ is also less than a average rent rate for a studio flat in the US. Also theymos doesn't care a lot about money, he could actually increase the salary/wage of the staff. Mods deserve more than just 500-1000$ per month.

Well staff are seen as volunteers and not employees so you can't really consider it as a wage and the money is just a thanks for helping out. I'm sure staff wouldn't say no to a raise but if you want more money from your time here you'd be better just joining a decent paying sig campaign. Most staff should be able to get good deals from certain campaigns anyway. FortuneJack seems to be poaching most of the staff's signatures and they offer very good rates for staff with no minimum posting requirements it seems.

Do you really think we are good? Just visit the Bitcoin discussion section. Almost every other topic is started by a newbie and on most occasions, its a duplicate thread of 10 other threads which were literally the same thing. I agree with hilariousetc We need shadowbanning in some sections.

Shadowbanning would only be used to stop bots and those just writing crap like 'good project' constantly, so it wouldn't really be used for just banning low quality users but we could certainly just trash low quality threads before they show up if new users need their first posts or so approved first so it would help clean up the place I think. I've suggested to theymos he add at least one dedicated mod for the main bitcoin discussion sub and hopefully that will help things as shadowbanning in any capacity is unlikely to be implemented I think.

Anyone here using the Superbru application? I'd like to use it for the whole season as it might be very easy to make predictions anytime anywhere using my mobile phone, but it seems that it is not really good application based on the available reviews at playstore. If anyone of you are using the app, let me know your experience. Thanks

Seems fine for me, but just test it out yourself. Sometimes reviews are skewed because they're using a different version of the app to you, or on a phone that can't handle it or they've since released a patch that fixes whatever errors they were having. Regardless, if it's bad just use the website. You can input your selections for the entire season if you wanted and as long as you don't lock them in you can change them at any point up until kick off so just do that if you're worried about the reliability of the app or whatever.
2910  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: August 08, 2018, 10:00:15 AM
Noticed this user: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2317270

If you look at his posting history all of them seem to be off topic in the wrong threads. Not sure if it's a malfunctioning bot or what, but there have been bots that have copied a post from another thread which obviously makes the post completely off topic.

The first two posts obviously should have been in the what do you do when you're bored shit thread. Third post was probably intended or from the where would you like to travel spamfest.
2911  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's English Premier League Football Pool £25 to join Prize Pot @ £725 on: August 08, 2018, 08:58:05 AM
Welcome to all, good to see the board start filling up. We've got past winners, past recordbreakers, but everyone starts with a clean slate, just like in the EPL!

I think what I'll really like about this new system is the extra points for those "close scores". Before, you could risk predicting a really high scoring game and yet get nothing out of it. I remember in the WC pool too, predicting 4-0 and the game won 3-0 would get you fewer points than a guy who predicted a 1-2 opposite result (just because of correct number of goals, regardless if outcome was correct). This new system seems a little bit better, since outcome still has to be correct for you to get the "close" points. Of course there'll be complaints impossible to give a fair system that suits everyone but yeah, it'll feel better to take risks for this new game.

That's what I like about this one. I've been shafted so many times in the last few minutes by a late goal so it would be nice to get some consolation points for that. I think it would be a nice additional feature if you could be able to set your own points scoring system. I think a correct score should be something like 50 points with a correct outcome 10 or 20. A close score could get you 10 or 5 or something. It's obviously much harder to pick a correct score so that should be reflected in the points awarded and by more than just 20 as it is now. It not that difficult picking correct outcomes and getting the score exactly right is fairly difficult.
2912  Other / Meta / Re: My Bitcointalk account get banned without any reason. Please help !! on: August 08, 2018, 08:55:21 AM
When people are permabanned it should automatically state on their ban: You have probably been banned for copy and pasting, because that's what 99% of these people are banned for when they ask in Meta and complain that they've 'done nothing wrong'. You've always done something wrong if you're permabanned and it's rare people are permbanned for anything else (other than spreading malware etc but those users usually know what they've done).

Bitcoin over bitches.

I thought this was going to be about how people have been choosing girlfriends over bitcoin haha. I'm pretty sure 99% of the women I know have zero knowledge of bitcoin before I mention it (and I don't think it's exactly a great chat up line), and as such won't care whether someone has knowledge of bitcoin or not.

Because it's the currency of young people who prefer freedom over mortgage. While older people who went through this whole financial struggle of getting a low paid job, renting a flat, then finally being able to get a house and paying off that house for 20+ years, tend to think that this is how life should be, the younger generation sees them struggle and wants a better life. Life where work is taking only a couple hours a day and you don't have to ask the bank for permission to use your money.

I don't think this is the case at all. How does bitcoin free you from getting a mortgage? Besides, bitcoin isn't just a magical money making machine. If people bought in at $20k then they'd have lost half of their money as it stands. You could argue your money would have been safer in the bank the past six months.

They should lock automatically after the deadline passes. At least it was like that previous season. I usually lock them manually as soon as I enter them. That way I am not in temptation to change them until the last minute.

Ah. Ok. I might just leave mine without locking then just in case I want to change them at the last minute, though I usually don't, but injuries/changes to the squad can influence that.

How many participants in fantasy group? I am contemplating joining under real name since I already have an account or making another one (which is major pain in the ass). If there is very little participants I will probably just skip it.

I don't know. I can't see anyone signed up yet, but it looks like they may only show up after this first round. Is there anyway to check? Can anyone confirm they signed up already?
2917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's English Premier League Football Pool £25 to join Prize Pot @ £725 on: August 07, 2018, 09:02:06 AM
Just to clarify and confirm, yes, you can choose to lock your picks (optional). Doing so will let you see other people's picks, but you can't change yours anyway, so I see no problem in this at all. Since you choose to see if you want, and only those who lock picks can see each other's picks. I've actually put in 3 weeks' worth of picks, but it seems you can put everything in for the entire weeks ahead so would recommend doing this now, so even if you miss your picks, they're there for changing any time. You get 15 "free picks" if you forget too, so even if matches are postponed or changed, you're well covered.

That's probably fine then. Do you have to lock them in for them to be submitted or is that just to see everyone elses scores?

Looks pretty good site so far, but of course we'll only really know after we've all used it.

The site has been running a fair while so I'm sure it's one of the most reliable. The BBC site was just a one time thing it seems and there was some problems with the scoring towards the end so I would much rather prefer reliability over usability, but the superbru site seems just as good maybe even better with the consolation point for a near miss. They also give prizes out like SuperSix but the chances of winning are astronomical. As they say you got to be in it to win it though haha.

https://www.superbru.com/premierleague_predictor/prize_jackpot.php

Quote
Superbru Exact Score Challenge

Correctly pick the exact score for every match in a round of at least 10 games and you'll enter a lucky draw to win:
£50,000

What's more, you'll be in with a shot of winning with anything from 5 exact scores upwards:
Exact Scores per round

   Prize per round:

5    A Superbru Yellow Cap
6    A Premier League jersey
7    £500
8    £1,000
9    £10,000
10    £50,000

What were the highest correct scores last season? 5?

Has anyone NOT paid yet?

I think everyone has paid apart from a couple so far but they should be in before the start of the season.

Where should I join?

I've just sent everyone the link and pin to join. There's a bitcoin as the group's badge. Let me know if I missed anyone.
2918  Other / Meta / Re: Are patrollers still a thing? on: August 07, 2018, 08:42:06 AM
I've previously suggested something like this. What I proposed is that all new users are essentially shadow-banned until a staff member checks their posts and either approves and white-lists them if they're fine or nuke them if they're a bot or whatever.

I've seen similar on other forums. Not shadow banned but simply that for every user their first post has to be manually approved. It is effective against spambots and only a minor inconvenience to genuine users.

Same. I guess it's effectively a shadowban though, but it usually tells you that your post is waiting for approval by a moderator. You could either have that or not. Don't suppose it matters either way. I've also been on forums where they require a captcha for the first post or so. That would be another layer for bots to jump through. Purchasing a copper membership could get rid of this.

It would stop spambots from being an eyesore as they would never appear and the people who just sign up just to write exclusively 'good project' etc can be nuked on sight instead of cluttering up the ICO threads with pure spam.

This just hits the nail on its head! I couldn't agree more. Sent some merit your way.

It won't be an inconvenience at all IMO. Imagine 20-30 users patrolling at all times. Their posts would get approved in minutes instead of hours which isn't the case with other forums.

Well it's a minor inconvenience if you want to post or get an answer straight away. This is why I suggest the shadowbanning because people will be non the wiser to it and just assume their question hasn't been answered yet.

If I look at patrol, I'd reject (almost) all of them. I've never been able to read that page long enough to find a post worth meriting, I usually give up when I find one worth banning.
There are enough Newbie posts to fill several full-time jobs, working in shifts around the clock. I don't think that's something anyone would want to do for long.

There could be dedicated patrollers for this. I don't think we would need that many to be honest. A handful or so.

Reward the process it's that simple. Not by BTCs or tokens. Just introduce a ranking system. I would do it all day long if you ask me...  Grin

If you're on forum staff then you will get paid. It wouldn't be anywhere near a full time wage but a very active patroller can expect around $550. theymos is also thinking about badges as a reward for high reporters though.

About tree fiddy.

I don't understand this thread. Is the OP saying that Bitcoin should only be available to people over the age of 18?

No. I just think he's one of those users here who think everything's a conspiracy theory and that the world is run by the royal family and the rothschilds who are peadophile lizzards and did 9/11 and all the school shootings (which are just false flag attacks to take away the guns).
2920  Other / Meta / Re: Are patrollers still a thing? on: August 06, 2018, 12:33:10 PM
Hmm, interesting. I dunno know if this has been suggested before or not. What about a system for approving new threads? Any new thread from a newbie should be approved by either a moderator or a Patroller. I believe this might be a "non-destructive" way to achieve the goal of fighting spam. From what I have in mind is to introduce a "merit" like system for patrollers. Patrollers who are above senior rank will be able to approve the new threads. If the topic already exists they could simply send a message with a link to that topic to the user who created the new thread and they will be rewarded by patrolling points. A user who has successfully earned 20,000 patrol points could become a moderator or could earn a special rank.

This idea literally came to me when I saw the thread. A ranking system for patrollers could be introduced just to make the job more interesting for them. Would love to hear community's opinion on this.
