2901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is beggining to get "bad" publicity... on: June 03, 2011, 03:42:31 AM
If I were the government trying to stop Bitcoin I'd first get the mainstream media propaganda machine to put out some serious spin on the ideological aspect of it and then I'd move to shutdown all the online exchanges and at the same time forbid any online payment system from dealing with any such exchanges in the future.
2902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is money laundering... according to some on: June 02, 2011, 11:28:16 PM
I think that's what it ultimately is going to come down to. And it's whether or not we can keep our exchanges open and running despite obviously being attacked with money laundering, illegal trade facilitating, ect charges.
2903  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Should we have hardcoded Austrian economic lessons? on: June 02, 2011, 10:58:37 PM
All the recent posts that people are making about the scary deflation monster and other "fatal flaws" of the Bitcoin design made bit uneasy about trusting people to be smart enough and to refuse any such proposals in the future.

I believe that we are all currently slaves under the fiat monetary systems around the world and the only reason for that is lack of economic literacy. People simply don't know they are getting ripped off by an invisible hand of inflation. I believe media propaganda and the public school indoctrination play the crucial role in keeping everyone in the dark.

Since I'm still not exactly sure how many clients would have to start using new rules for the whole Bitcoin network to switch and since I learned to fear the ignorance of the general public I had this idea that maybe it would be smart to add some Austrian economic lessons to the client. Either links to key articles or key youtube videos or key books on amazon or at least something to keep the Bitcoin users informed.

What do you think? Are my fears baseless or is this a good idea?
2904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21m bitcoin limit? on: June 02, 2011, 10:10:00 PM
It's very simple.

Prices for anything are determined through supply and demand. Since the supply of Bitcoins is fixed it will only come down to the demand and if we assume the demand is going to always grow because of more people using it then pricess of Bitcoins is also going to always rise. Rising price of Bitcoins means falling prices of goods and services offered for Bitcoins.

And that's it.

2907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Expiration Date on Bitcoin Transactions? on: June 01, 2011, 04:56:37 PM
Yes there are no chargebacks. If you mess up, the only way you can get them back is voluntarily almost like cash on the street.
2908  Economy / Economics / Re: questions from a beginner on: June 01, 2011, 03:38:42 PM
Price is driven by the supply and demand. You know what the supply is so it all comes down to the demand. No one is promising you rising prices all the time as they haven't been in the past. People sell and people buy when people buy and people sell. You are not missing anything except maybe that in order to make a profit you have to have the right timing on when you buy and when you sell and that it's not as easy as you might think.

I don't know if this made any sense but I hope I helped.
2909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many bitcoins were there in the beginning? on: June 01, 2011, 03:10:37 PM
Does anyone know how many bitcoins there were on day 1 of bitcoin? I mean there needed to have been a seed amount not including mined coins since mining is processing transactions so other coins need to exist before mining coins are created. Who got these coins? Huh

There were no coins in the beginning. When the first block was mined, first 50BTC were created. That's how it started.

For one, issuing and control of cash in our society a sovereign function.

Every man is sovereign.

That was my point. At least according to the American constitution, Americans were suppose to be all sovereign induviduals. I'm not sure the rest of the countries have the same wording used in their founding documents.

They can't tolerate not having centralized, political control over things.

That's because they are nothing without it.

Well if anyone still doesn't understand that we are all slaves as long as we live under a state rule, here's your proof.

He basically said: "How dare you, mundane, come up with such a preposterous idea of issuing your own money. Don't you know this sort of right is reserved only for your kings overlords and masters?! Now be a good slave and quit this nonsense or else!"
2913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Keiser Report: Jon Matonis on BitCoin vs central bankers on: June 01, 2011, 01:01:38 AM
Off topic:
Finally a real mention on the Keiser Report.  But the fact that this guy was behind Hushmail does not inspire confidence.  Hushmail was a completely doomed-from-the-start "encrypted" webmail scheme that suckered a bunch of idiots into using it and then opened all of their mailboxes as soon as the authorities came knocking.

What? Hushmail opened the mailboxes?! How is that possible if they said that if I lost my password there's nothing they could do??
