Well, on Tuesday I got a call from DHL saying that a package is underway for me and if all goes well with customs I'll have it today (on thursday).
So I called them back today and asked for a status update. The lady on the other end searched for a bit but told me there's no package for me in their system whatsoever. This is strange, anyone have any explanation for this?
Every time I call them, here in Italy, they tell me that without tracking number their search is not conclusive. One operator refused at first to do the search saying that I could be trying to access private informations. spiccioli Always from italy, i was once able to block a package at the deposit using only the destination address. It widely depends on who you talk with, i suppose. Expecislly since that the Italian dhl phone number costs a lot to dial.

I admit that I'm trolling, and that I don't have a big understanding of the iusses. However, BFL claimed to have their chips ready almost one month ago. Again, I'm not a expert, but what I know is this: -they have yet to show a prototype -they have a large outflux of money due to the refunds. -they are trying to get new orders using a lot of money on AdWords (probably in the range of 100'000$/month), this should guarantee them a positive money flow, for now. -if the design of this chip is flawed, they will have a hard time to find the money for another 45nm run. If I'm correct these costs as much as 1 million dollar each. -if they don't show a working prototype in, I guess, one month, their design is flawed.
If this happens, everyone with a preorder will lose his money.
Good luck, BFL fanboys!

you guys are fucking outrageous. 125btc? Hah.. maybe I'll go order a BFL, will have about the same luck getting my money back.
BFL fanboys are gratefully asked to go on bitbet http://bitbet.us/bet/265/bfl-will-deliver-asic-devices-before-april-1st/ where they can find easy money putting their bitcoin where their mouth is. I did it with a lot of money when BFL was just out of the chip fab and delivering in 10 days top, so please do the opposite instead of trolling this thread. 125btc is actually a good price, just 10btc above the cost of the 85GH unit on batch 3. I also really like the idea of simply having to lose the owenership of my Avalon store account. If and when this auction reaches 200btc you can begin to complain. But yet, it would be a better bet than placing a bfl preorder.

Avalon ASIC just sold on Ebay for 15.000 USD - so much for auctioning them. I stick to GPU mining, you guys go ahead and destroy the BitCoin mining ecosystem with your greed. Low Watts is good for real ecosystem -Mother Nature- tho.
The winning bid was USD 20, 600. I'd say it's a reflection of the greed of miners more than anything else. Whoever bought it didn't do so to secure the network. Avalon probably didn't even make a profit on the sale of that Batch 1 unit. The original purchaser cleaned up and the person they sold it to is hoping to clean up too. Link? How can the seller be sure he will not be scammed by the paypal ecosystem?

Conditional offer:
As I live in China, if they allow changing shipping address I will be interested. I will buy all of them at 125BTC.
Try to contact the avalon team, maybe since that you use the Chinese for your communications you will be granted a fast and positive reply.

I could send the units to the escrow, that will open the package and verify that in fact these are working avalons. The escrow re-ship them to you and release my founds.
This way, given that the escrow is trusted, we should have a good transaction.
I'm sorry but for now I'm not evaluating offers under 150btc, if the auction closes with a nothing of done we can discuss this privately.
Thank you for your interest.

what a pitty.... missed batch #2 because I was unable to get my money converted to BTC fast enough and now when I did read about batch #3 on monday I went on and bought BTC but only calculated with 1599$ like it was for batch #2 -.-
I completly understand the position of Avalon team, but the risk for the customers is a bit too high for me now. (But I'm looking for joint ventures if anyone is interested...)
As I mentioned in neighboring threads, I'm willing to pool on this with someone to share the risks, PM me if interested. The guy registered today and has offered twice already to partner with buying or housing avalon units. It's 99.9% a scammer. I've said it.

You will have a hard time surfing among the newly registered scammers... Like the post above me with its perfect English registered today.
Check out my signature if you are interested, we can work out a deal where I care about keeping the units hashing and online for you. (At least I didn't registered today).
Keep in mind that english isn't the native language for all the people on this planet... and the date of registering shouldn't be taken as a scammer sign. I've read the forums for over a year and now with the Avalon batch #3 came the time to register in the forums. How would you feel if somebody came on 8th of August 2012 to you and instantly blame you as possible scammer ? You have to start somewhere right ? I'm sorry, you might be legit, but I won't bet a penny over it. Out of 3 post I read from you today, in 2 you offered to partner somehow to buy or to host these asic. Btw, when i registered I was labeled as a scammer during my first posts, so it's really the standard.

Heres my offer.
1 unit for 100 BTC using escrow and I'll cover the overnight cost to ship the unit from the datacenter to my location once it arrives there.
If all goes well I will buy the remaining units within 3 business days of receiving my first one and I'll pay the same 6500 for each of them.
Your offer is below my opening price, plus I don't have any way to be sure that you will not claim to have received an empty box from me. Other than this, 10btc of difference for being in batch 2 instead of batch 3 is really ridiculous and I want a btc fixed price, not depending on usd. I was offering the same 5 units for the same 150btc each one month ago while the price was 30$/btc. In other words, thank you, but no, thank you.

0.01 is a limitation in place to stop spambots from registering. You have to pay it foreach language because every language is theated as a different website from wikimedia. It's a software problem, if you want. I agree with you that the fee should be lowered to 0.001 since, but only due to the recent price spike. You wouldn't have bothered opening this thread 6 months ago.

Stop with all of this bs please... Thank you @ the Avalon team for the magic you have done. You deserve what your future earnings.
As NG stated many times all off topic (in fact it is on topic) is welcomed what is your problem after all? You shouldn't feed the troll, he only wants to troll. He is shouting sentences without any meaning in hope to fell the avalon team guilty and lower their prices because he can't afford it. This is the way I read it and this is why I asked you to stop. Feel free to continue anyway, its funny.

why not just farm this out to an amazon ec2 cluster? 50 BTC can buy a lot of compute time.
Well, you have a point here. I'm doing some calculations... let's see... 250BTC = 15k$. I'm assuming that a server with a 7970 will be priced at 250$ monthly and that, standing to the posts above this, it will do 10k tests/second. 15000/250 = 60 servers * 86400*30 seconds * 10k tests/second => 10^12 combinations to test. 52 ^ 8 = 10^13. I'm still one order of magnitude off. Five to ten years from now, i'm quite sure that i will be able to recover the money. It will be funny! ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) --- I should find the time to try some combinations, at least the billion i was referring to on the first post, i think to have a good chance that way. I'm afraid that brute forcing the password using a raw alphabet won't work, it's probably much longer than 8 characters. Fortunately, it's also is most probably composite with other stuff i remember.

To say that things poor would be an understatement. Perhaps they will use some of that capital to hire staff? That would be interesting. Hopefully they will touch on that before the presage goes up.
I guess that part of the capital will go into developing a 28nm asic to compete 6 months from now.

This thread is amazing...

Fair Enough. It is an interesting theory but even the week your escrow structure could cause in delay would really change the math. Good luck, please keep us updated it will be interesting to see if someone will pay that much of a premium for it.
The premium is already priced in by the batch 3 costs. During the "week" while there is the turnover with the escrow, the units will mine and the mined will go to the buyer, if everything concludes successfully.
|
|
|
This is how I priced the unit: Batch 3 will go for 90btc. Batch 2 customers like me will enjoy 15-30 days of mining before batch 3 hits the market. If your order is at the end of batch 3, this could be as much as 45 days. During these ~30 days the Avalon would mine around 50 btc. So we reach 140 btc. Seems fair to me.
