2921  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Did Satoshi foresee that secp256r1 was compromised? on: September 12, 2013, 05:54:55 AM
It would be kind of genius if the reason Bitcoin does not use secp256r1 was because Satoshi knew about its possible weaknesses.

Weaknesses discussion: http://it.slashdot.org/story/13/09/11/1224252/are-the-nist-standard-elliptic-curves-back-doored?utm_source=rss1.0mainlinkanon&utm_medium=feed

Bruce Schneier no longer trusts the numbers used to create the curves. https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2013/09/the_nsa_is_brea.html#c1675929

And going back to this discussion about why secp256k1 was used instead of secp256r1 is it possible that Satoshi knew the secp256r1 was compromised?

Is there a way to monitor a team on BTC Guild? there is a team labcoin

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=241033.msg2568834#msg2568834

I dont know much about that kinda stuff.

Why would they test on TRC? If they have Avalons why not just use them to mine Bitcoins?
2923  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 12, 2013, 05:21:55 AM
I get the feeling its a symptom of having to rely on foundries (third parties) and promising deadlines that cannot be kept.

to quote bitsyncom

Quote
2. the whole chip fabrication is very mathematically predictable based on the number of layers your ASIC has and the speed which the fabrication company can produce a layer. There is no such thing as a fabrication company giving a "fuzzy" date when it comes to when the chips will come from the assembly line. The only number that can vary is the shipping time from the fabrication company to the packaging company, but even that is no more than a few days of difference, depending on the shipping method.

Its only mathematically predictable if you factor in unforeseen developments/issues.

Funny how it can be so predictable yet Avalon is behind on its chips, BFL is behind on its chips, etc...

I'm not sure how much business you have been in, but the most seemingly simple task will break down at some point and cause delays.

You think that the world is in a optimal state and that all processes will run as if modelled in a simulator.

The fact is there have been delays in ASIC companies getting their chips. This is known and cannot be waved away due to a hypothetical best case scenario.
2924  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 12, 2013, 04:43:46 AM
It makes no sense how so much can be going wrong with all these ASIC companies.  They all seem to operate exactly the same - like ASS. Same excuses, same issues, same gameplaying and broken promises. Is there a book on this shit somewhere?

I get the feeling its a symptom of having to rely on foundries (third parties) and promising deadlines that cannot be kept.

The issue here is that the foundries know their customers in general have to be fast to market, its how you stay competitive. However I doubt these foundries have ever had customers that have a situation that each 2 week period reduces their chips effectiveness by 30%

Think about it, the foundry companies are not used to this 2 months and your chips are 10% as effective or less situation.

The ASIC companies however need to set good deadlines for the IPO otherwise they would not get the funding.

This is the issue, the ASIC companies and foundries exist in different worlds.

I just wanted to stop by and say that I have not been able to talk to Sam today. I do realize that "next week" is here and as soon as I have anything to report I will. I realize a "nothing to report yet" report is just that, but as soon as I hear anything it will be posted here and on BTCT.CO news section.

Remember this fiasco? This post was what set-off that first massive sell-off. "Hey guys, uh.... nothing. Later" Major PR trainwreck. There were probably a few investors who lost their homes and families over this dunce-tacular move.

Swede sold high and bought low. Very simple. I am not sure how some of you don't understand that the trainwreck is planned, the end of the line is already known.

I think it's quite possible that they actually have hardware, but it doesn't work, and admitting that at this stage would mean the whole thing would implode.

Of course, if that's the case, then the share price will implode cause they got nothing...

what do we know for sure?
1. No marked blocks and no sign of hashing for the past 2 days
2. shares are not locked, and they've moved at least 15% as of yesterday (leaves 10% to be moved, and still not break the whole "voluntary locked shares" thing)
3. Missed 48 hour deadline to show proof of hashing
4. No real evidence that anything actually exists

This is going to be fun.
2927  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 12, 2013, 03:01:08 AM
shouldn't you be in the ActiveMining thread choking hard over there?

Oh please  Roll Eyes

And last I checked, TheSwede is an official Labcoin mouthpiece - is that wrong?

I heard he was just to mediate the IPO.
2928  Economy / Securities / Re: Hey Activeminers? You won't make your investment back. on: September 12, 2013, 02:59:31 AM
This is stupid. IPO 0.0025 and this bet says the whole thing is a failure if investors don't get 120% ROI in 6 months from hashing.
It has been explained many times.
It has to be at least the IPO otherwise it could just be a refund of shareholder's money. It's even likely to happen due to the Avalon thing.
Honestly if you believe that you just don't understand investing at all. Not having that ROI, you're better off investing in a proven company. Why take such a risk for so little in returns?

Of course we need ROI, but 6 months from hashing is going to be very hard to do.

I won't copy her words here, but I've never seen such language from a lady before.

You two are so cute!

Even if you're long on ActiveMining betting on this is a sure way to lose money.

I even remember talking to a Nokia fan in computer science telling me how he could do commands and stuff on his phone and the web browser was enough, the iPhone was just a step back in his opinion.
Actually when the iPhone got out, it had no third-party applications allowed, no app store, and Steve Jobs himself said a web browser was enough.
Nokia also released some of the best smartphones (the N900 / N9) but failed to promote them.

Apple changed their stance and actually promoted their phones for the third-party applications. Nokia continued to do nothing.

Yes, this is the problem with engineers and marketing!

The tech isn't enough!

I am actually sitting here with my google authenticator waiting and hoping for good news to buy.

I donīt think that will happen though. So then I will go all in on ActM.

(I have AM too)

I was doing the same but I have to pass this opportunity because of sleep. If news then good luck!

Calling people who don't trust Labcoin a crazy person?

I. Have. No. Words.

I am obviously kidding Wink

If you read my previous posts I have been highly skeptical and been called a lot of things for pointing this out.

Haha its a bit late for me. :p

Getting very slow....

In all honestly, why not try every approach?

What do you want to try next? Sending the boys round?

From what has been said on here the Board have tried their hardest on this one and Ken won't budge. You have to respect that I'm afraid. So the best we can do now is try to improve the current site - which I believe is not nearly as bad as most are making out. Drop a few graphics, redesign the options bar to do away with the side panels and it is professional and clean.

I actually feel sick that I invested in this.
2936  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 11, 2013, 05:45:26 PM
There is another sell off brewing.....

Well once enough people sell there will be news!

So someone sell lots and lots! The news will magically happen.
2937  Economy / Securities / Re: [LABCOIN] IPO [BTCT.CO] - Details/FAQ and Discussion (ASIC dev/sales/mining) on: September 11, 2013, 05:44:07 PM

Only the Sith deal in absolutes, proof required, not.
2938  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread on: September 11, 2013, 05:40:33 PM
But its not going to happen, we are a "12 year old with photoshop" type of company. Professionalism only exists for backend stuff and engineering, all that front end stuff and marketing? Nah! That don't matter! I'm a engineer god dammit!

That level of dialogue when directed at Ken is not going to win any favours is it? You just insulted then man and you want him to listen to you? Good luck.

Well thats the thing I heard that at one point Ken went months without making contact. I doubt he is listening to me or anyone else. I study engineering and too often you find people in my field that just see the technical and thats all. Its like all the Nokia fans back in the day were raging at the iPhone along with Steve Ballmer about how crap the iPhone was going to be and how their phone had better specs. No one ever thought user interface or marketing would have a role to play.

I even remember talking to a Nokia fan in computer science telling me how he could do commands and stuff on his phone and the web browser was enough, the iPhone was just a step back in his opinion. I felt sad as these fans couldn't understand as Apple destroyed them so completely and utterly.

As an engineer I must remember my bias towards my field. Engineering has its role to play but so does marketing and website design.

Thats why I am afraid. Ken sounds like a fantastic engineer, but one who can't understand why the inferior product is selling more units. (Hopefully when we do sell units this won't be the case)
2939  Economy / Lending / Re: Tomatocage's 0% interest loans, up to 50 BTC (collateral required) on: September 11, 2013, 05:30:56 PM
Yes, that's correct. Once you repay the BTC, your original 1000 LTC will be returned. I'm at work right now though, so I'll PM you the LTC address to deposit at in about 10hrs.

Thanks.
