blockchain.info

Iam use blockchain.info too, but i back up my privekey theen i restore it to mycellium android wallet, because sometimes blockchain service maintenance, so i can still use my address during blockchain at maintenance mode....

If you have it all over like this make sure you treat it like a hot wallet for daily spending.  To have on android is just a not great idea if you have big holdings.

If you do have bigger holdings and need android look at a hardware wallet that works with myccellium.  It is much safer then having private key on phone.

2962  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How quiet is the Avalon 4.1, really? on: January 05, 2016, 05:45:48 PM
I've been looking for this miner also because its very quiet but most that I find for sale cost more then a brand new S7 in terms of Th/$.
They got like a 7 months ROI with free electricity.

Ask for droid to sell to you instead of me then, his price is pretty acceptable imo. I'd pick one up but i'm dry on loose funds as i picked up a S7. And it doesnt really beat getting undervolted S3 in term of ROI.

What's he asking?

I figured you'd ask him directly. Well to hell with it, he said he could offer me one for 0.65, you're more than welcome to PM him and ask him if that price is doable for you. I pretty much told him my budget for these don't extend over 200$ even though i recognize thats a cheap ass price.

You won't find one in that range.  These still are not bad machines.   They had premium for the quiet vs buying bitmain at the time.  And they have a huge ability to change speed.

.65 I think is pretty fair if anyone is wanting one of these.  Someday when I sell mine I likely will try to sell my set of 3 at once.   But I will mine with them for winter most likely.
2963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 05, 2016, 05:37:07 PM
I have 20 S7 batch 8 they run with the old firmware should i upgrade them to the last firmware?

not broken dont fix it

im sure many will say the same.

Unfortunately Bitmain give no indication as to the changes / improvements in the firmware, so unless you have a problem then I am in the stay as you are camp.

Rich

Even if they give a indication unless it's a big feature or big flaw I just keep going.  Ever since I bricked a S3 I have not done the do every update method.  I lam on the cautious side.

So if your miner is doing good... there is no reason to update.  And if there was a big reason I'm sure we would read about it in forum.
2964  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: January 05, 2016, 05:33:47 PM
its around -10C outside here. i have a quiet 120mm fan pulling cold air directly to the S7 intake

S7, B8 fans are 15%, 691MHz, and I have temperatures of 61-68C

It's getting colder and colder here.  They are still working in 20F or below here.   So it's good to see cold does not seem to have an effect.

I have also turned off some fan's.  Winter mining is a heck of a lot easier then summer mining when mining a decent scale.
2965  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Concerning the state of bitcoin, mining, and centralization on: January 05, 2016, 05:23:57 PM
1) Is it worth getting into mining if I were to buy 20 Antminer S7's and profitability calculators say I would only pay 33% of my revenue in electricity? Or does the halving of released bitcoins + the difficulty level shooting through the roof negate any reason to jump into mining?

2) I have looked at bitcoin as the answer to the impending fiat currency crash for a while now but the commandeering of the bitchain has shaken my faith in the system made for the people. Is there any reason to fear the legitimacy of bitcoin because of the loss of control of the bitchain to corporate interests?

3) Is there another currency that cannot be commandeered such as one that limits mining to one per IP or any particular corporate interest protection?

Thanks for spending time to respond.

1)Maybe, but it is a bit risky, the difficulty is raising sharply, which means you probably wont get a satisfying return before the BTC halving. At which point your profit is purely speculative on whether the BTC value go up. In this path holding most of the BTC you mine would be the way to go, but very risky as well.

2)The blockchain is not loss or put in control of corporate interest. Thats the point of a decentralized network, however the centralization of the hashrate is somewhat of a concern.

3)Not really, a coin can be ASIC resistant, but discussing Altcoins in the Bitcoin board is against this board's rule.

On asic's if there is money they will build it scrypt proved it. Right now SFards is mining LTC internally with the newest gen LTC machine.... no selling to regular customers except a very few.   But it was profitable enough they dumped some money to develop a next gen.  If any other algo ever had a coin that had huge profit's they would look into it... and chances are eventually make a asic assuming it is worth the R/D and dev.

On your fiat crashing... which country are you talking about?  Fiat is not really in competition with BTC.  So I would not tie them directly.   Fiat will always be a part of society for foreseeable future.  There are just some you would never be able to convince to use BTC.

On mining we need to know much more.  Jumping in with 20 miners is not easy... you need electricity that is cheap or decent, and 20 is a LOT of power.  Have you looked if you have a place that can even handle that much?  There is just so much to this part if you plan on mining with 20 miners somewhere you own.
2966  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: January 05, 2016, 05:20:17 PM
I prefer Antminer s7 on Avalon 6.
The new Antminer S7 Plus is much more efficient.

There's not a S7+ version, am i misunderstanding?

And now the latest batches of S7's have the same efficiency as the Avalon6, so not the only reason to stick with S7 is the GH/$, since the Avalon6 has a much better build quality.

No misunderstanding there is not a S7+.  It would not suprise me if they do have one day... but no sign of it yet.   Right now they have batch 9 that is cheaper so they won't do any change before that goes to sale.

If they were going to change product it would be after then.  But I'm not sure they might milk current design a few more batches.  They have a design ow with less chips and high freq.  Which should mean more profit for them.
2967  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is this math right? on: January 05, 2016, 05:15:40 PM
@OP,
Why don't you go for a single s7 which gives you higher TH/s with greater efficiency and lesser consumption???
The math you are showing is based on older machines which means that there is no guarantee that you can profit with the amount of miners you are going to use, as the electricity is higher at your place, and most importantly, it is associated with your ROI period...

I have a feeling we can let this thread die. I don't think OP is coming back he signed up asked question and has not been back:

I would guess he did the math and decided not to do it.  But that is speculation.
2968  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s3 on: January 05, 2016, 05:13:50 PM
only worth it with free electricity i guess, because even at 0.05 the profit isn't that great(actually there is loss with the next diff increase), probably on par with some gpu mining on some random altcoin

Look at difficulty jumps though.  I would not want to be .05 with S3 even.  I like a bigger margin then that.  I think I agree with speculation of it being a loss by time  you factor in purchasing price.

I would sell it and go more efficient, or just buy more efficient.    But S3 is slowly moving to very low/free users.  It's kinda the nature of the game.
2969  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to collect BTC ?? on: January 05, 2016, 03:55:16 AM
Nothing is easy.. we can gain some thing only if we work hard.
faucets and mining is the safe way to get some bitcoins.. But it is very slow process. I don't know if it is right or wrong...some people may feel i am wrong and misleading people.. But personally i feel, if we have good skills, it is easy to get some bitcoin with betting.. i personally do this.. and earning also...

If you mean selling skills and services for bitcoins, i am agree with you about this point, that's could being good source to collect bitcoins nowadays.
But if you mean by betting the gambling; i think it's not guaranteed income, and may be very risky way.
Yes if selling services such as creating logos and logo you elect was very nice, amu will get very many and very menguntugkan bitcoin.
But if you gamble perhaps my opinion is very less precise because if you do not win in gambling you will lose a lot of bitcoin and it's very detrimental to you

Yes selling services and goods especially the needed ones , is really profitable source.
Gambling still risky method depending only in the luck, so not really guaranteed as i explained before.
Absolutely, although only participating you will also get bitcoin as appreciation has been followed.
Gambling relies heavily on luck I did not dare to gamble because I'm afraid to lose

Gambling is all based on luck.  Games have point spreads to make it where it's more where it's still hard to predict.

A lot seem to like dice it is all luck.   The only one that knows they win long term is the house (were you bet).  I highly suggest staying away from gambling if your goal is to collect btc.  You have to look at long term, not just hoping for a short term win.
2970  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Bitcoin Cloud Mining? on: January 05, 2016, 03:51:29 AM
I think now there is no cloud mining is quite promising. Most cloud mining does not generate profit.

The one's that do great at it I think are the ones who sell.  It is risky like any other trading, but the ability to sell your cloud mining shares or machine is important.

A few I know on hashnest made a quick profit when they were out of S7's I think it was.  They got a return in a few day's (or something like that).  The most common will be the ones who use for a while and sell.  But that sell point is the tricky part.
2971  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Ledger Wallet Questions on: January 05, 2016, 03:48:43 AM
My question is that say Ledger Wallet ceases to exist, their chrome app is pulled and their server is shutdown where would that leave you with the btc's stored on the device?

Thanks
IIRC Ledger is a BIP39 compatible wallet, so the recovery words that you write down will be able to be imported into any BIP39 compatible wallet. Then you can spend the Bitcoin from that imported wallet.

If the device is lost or locked after three invalid pin attempts it wipes its contents and requires recovery.

However the recovery or import into another wallet is still be reliant upon the chrome app.

Is this correct?

Three attempts and it is gone and will appear like a new Ledger.   You can recovery it from seed words if you do it on accident.  I HIGHLY recommend getting ledger starter if you get one, it's a 100 percent offline OS to make it secure on seed words.

Here is a hands on I did with one: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1305888.0
2972  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s3 on: January 05, 2016, 03:42:43 AM
S3+ are a bit nicer a little over clocking and still run like a tank.

Go there http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

Power cost want to look at. Power cost is what going to get you on a S3 now.

Power cost is huge with S3 being older you really need very cheap/free electricity.  They just are a few generations behind.  The calculator above is great to see your ROI chances, make sure on electricity to include taxes or fee's.

But also on S3+ it stops you from getting one that was a batch 1 dud.  Some batch ones worked great others ran slow.  It was big enough they did give a portion of sale back.    But if you get one that is plain S3 know what it hashes at so you pay proper.  They are like tanks though and pretty much keep working.
2973  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 05, 2016, 03:37:46 AM
When I bought mine in summer there were plenty of them sold new by different resellers.

I wonder if anyone ever had luck finding a block with just a U3 anytime since the model launch.

That would be a interesting stat.  But no way to really know besides if someone tell us.  I was excited on the R1 it told how many hit, thought that was a cool feature.  But it remains at 0 last i saw and there was still 100 something.  Guess it was limited edition almost.

I really wonder if they are working on u4 or said not worth the time compared to selling a big miner.  Just seems like they would be much more interested in selling higher price which ultimately means higher profits.
2974  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 31 to Jan 12 Diff thread picks open. on: January 05, 2016, 03:31:13 AM
So today ended being +20% or so. So much for those 0% days in the last 3 days.

well still have some low days

https://bitcoincharts.com

Blocks   391808
Total BTC   15.045M

Difficulty   103880340815
Estimated   106535928464 in 1312 blks    this is about +2.55%

Network total   859554.331 Thash/s
Blocks/hour   6.94 / 519 s

but it is obvious that the network can do 1000ph  rather then the 780ph or so it is doing now.  I find it discouraging to say the least.

That is not bad on estimated.  I wish bitwisdom would show that low:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    103,880,340,815
Estimated Next Difficulty:    112,941,445,366 (+8.72%)
Adjust time:    After 1311 Blocks, About 8.8 days
Hashrate(?):    808,405,177 GH/s

It is estimating high..... but it seems we end up high the last few weeks.
2975  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would be a good asic miner to start with? on: January 05, 2016, 03:28:04 AM
At this point in the Bitcoin mining game I would say the best miner to start with would be the SP35 Yukon Power miner.
https://vimeo.com/114685493

It's $2,235
Which is expensive but it will pay off, now that the halving is coming we really have no choice but to buy expensive ass hardware.
I've had some success with it.

I would disagree with efficiency "0.66W/GH/s".  If you already bought it long ago yes keep mining it until you sell it.  But with .08 cents electricity if buying I would go current gen.

After it is unprofitable then sell it.  But going into old gear is hard at .08 cent's.  Out of curiosity why would you say it is the best miner for OP?

I say so because since the halving is coming up and more gh/s will be required, you need to buy more expensive sturdy hardware.

But that hardware is dated, so i disagree with your recommendation, by far. Having a high hashrate per unit does not mean it is better return.

It is a bad idea more hash... is not what you base purchases on unless free electricity.  Virosa post is 100 percent correct. OP would be better off with 2 S7's.  For around the price you mentioned he will have more hash and efficiency around the .30w range.

So less then 1/2 the efficiency.  Do you see what I mean?  Just makes a ton more sense on .08 cents.
2976  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SALES OPEN] [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for Europe on: January 04, 2016, 11:13:56 PM
I am interested:) I want to try hobby mining

If your in Europe give it a shot. I like to collect Smiley OP was amazing on helping me get one in US.   So now I have all the compac versions (at least public ones I think).

But they are the perfect miner for learning mining.  My only suggestion is get a RaspberryPI and good hub and you will really enjoy it without having to use a full computer.
2977  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: January 04, 2016, 11:10:35 PM
certainly sell power supplies without power cord and poor homeless

shame Huh Huh

To be fair I think it makes sense in this area not to sell the cord.   There are multiple different PDU connector types..... so what should they do ship one knowing it does not work with all?

I think this makes sense don't charge me for the cable.  And I can buy on amazon to fit my PDU's needs.   If it was a 110/120 I could see your point but with this going to 220/240 on most I don't think they did anything wrong not including cable.

Those sites are very interesting but I'm located in Europe. Not sure how shipping will be...

Actually I recently got burned buying 2 antminer s5 of ebay... both died within 12h... (don't know if there is something I can do about that)
This is why I'm a bit scared of "used gear"

I am looking at the S7 because they are popular and I guess you can resell them easily but then I about problems and failing boards again... (kinda gave me bad chill's)

Now, I'm not lazy and I know money doesn't come falling out of tree while sitting pretty.
But I want to believe with the right strategy there should be a way to grow into something decent.
(as long as you don't get scammed ofc...)

One of the biggest issue's Europe seems to have is vat ontop of shipping.  Shipping cost is not bad but import taxes in some EU countries is horrible.

Your .08 cent's on electricity is decent about normal not great but not horrid.  I would check to make sure that's with fee's and taxes on electricity on that price double check as it is highly important.

If you stick with the two companies shipping this gen Avalon and Bitmain chances are they are not going to scam you.  Or go with trusted on buying used or use escrow it can be a great tool to stop scamming.
2980  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best bitcoin mining rig for $1000? on: January 04, 2016, 10:57:31 PM
With a 1000 bucks i would go for either some second hands 3x S5 with PSU
Or get a SP Jackson with PSU.

However don't forget to calculate your earnings.

Either a couple of antminer S3's or antminer s5's.
I know spondoolies tech made good hardrware but I am with bitmain since day 1 and I know their hardware is one of the best, maybe even the best.

How many miners have you had to base that on?   I strongly don't think you can say X company is the best!

I think each model is a different beast.  Some are better then others.  But you cant say X company is always best.
