2961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people are comfortable investing in government controlled investments on: March 29, 2020, 04:47:41 PM
I'm not comfortable with government controlled investments and with fiat money. If I have to use fiat money I choose cash. I can feel that push from the banks and the governments to make us stop using fiat money and I'm the kind of person who likes to push back. The harder they want me to do something the more suspicious of it I get and the more I oppose.
People are taught to trust the government, that they will be taken care of and have free tiome to pursue their own goals in life. They just need to pay the government a share and everything will be fine. Today you can't even be sure if your house will belong to your children after you're gone or if the socialists will decide to tax inheritance to make sure most of your wealth gets redistributed after your death.
2962  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Toilet paper hoarding on: March 29, 2020, 04:29:58 PM
Gee whiz, I never realized that when I opened a thread to bitch about the lack of toilet paper that it would end up with me going on a tirade about the Christian religion. However, there is hope. I just got a call from my aunt, and it appears her household has acquired an ample supply of toilet paper. So if my stash runs out, I can drive about 80 miles and replenish my supply. Therefore, I can guarantee that I'll have a clean ass for a little while longer.

I can mail you some from the EU. We have plenty.
If it ever runs out there's always paper towels and tissues and if that's ever gone we can start washing our butts like people in India and Pakistan. I don't believe we'll ever run out of water. There's also another silver lining. If you run out of food you won't even have to wipe your butt anymore. Somebody should tell that to those TP hoarders.
2963  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is how the corona virus spreading rapidly on: March 29, 2020, 04:20:35 PM
The problem is that people aren't taking the precautionary measures seriously. People are still going out even though they aren't allowed because of the risk of contracting and spreading the virus. If government are less lenient to people like this and rule as an embodiment of law then they might discipline this people.

Yes, you are right, many people still underestimate all of this.
I think warning is not enough to convince and discipline such people, there must be firm action to bring society into discipline.
Martial law? Or maybe what they are doing in India?

You see them walking around town? Beat them with a stick! What if they're going to a pharmacy, or need to get food for a small child? Doesn't matter, beat them with a stick! No walking around! Cheesy
2964  Other / Politics & Society / Re: People start killing themselves due to COVID19 virus fears. on: March 29, 2020, 04:10:28 PM
You have to be really weak to kill yourself when there's no real threat, just out of fear. I could understand if they took their lives because they knew they were infected with something that would kill them slowly and painfully, but I'll never understand killing yourself in fear of catching something that kills only 2% of the infected. This is totally irrational. I don't get how these people face at home, school, work. Maybe their lives were always a walk in the park and this is the first time they  really faced fear?
2965  Other / Politics & Society / Re: CORONAVIRUS IMPACT ON MENTAL WELL-BEING on: March 29, 2020, 03:53:23 PM
So I can tell you how I'm copig with it. I used to work a lot from home even before the virus so it doesn't really impact my mental health. I'm not afraid of being sick, I'm not that old and very healthy. I think I can make it even if I get infected. I try to maintain a food supply for at least a week, which means that I have a 2 week food supply and when I'm down to 1 week, i go to the store. There are no limits in the stores near me, this means that if you want to buy 10kg of flour or sugar, or 20 rolls of TP, you are free to do so.
The only thing that bothers me is that all entertainment got shut down. Pubs, restaurants, cinemas... I used to eat out once a week with my wife but now it's over, but then we can barbecue in the garden so for now it's enough.

If you can't do withot people and are used to crowded spaces, it may be hard for you.
2966  Economy / Economics / Re: Start investing so you can quit your job and retire early. on: March 23, 2020, 03:52:56 PM
I don't hate this advice, but you give only half the information, like telling the way but not giving directions.
I'm sure everyone also wants to invest in giving passive money every day/month/year. but most of us don't understand how to invest and what places are suitable for beginners like us.

You'd like other people to do all the work for you so that you can drink champagne and eat caviar?
There's a reason why not all of us can be rich and that reason is people's stupidity and laziness. A smart person will accept the advice and try to use it. A dumb person will get discouraged because there's some small obstacle on the way and then complain they're still poor.

You want to know how to invest in cryptocurrency?
Step 1: buy bitcoin
Step 2: put in cold storage and forget about it for another 2 years.
2967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why should bitcoin not perform now? on: March 23, 2020, 03:32:52 PM
I'll give you a few reasons.

-Traders tried to leverage stocks and got fucked by a long decline. They did not expect this crash to be so big. Some people say it's the biggest since the 2009 financial crisis.
In other words a lot of people got cut catching a falling knife.
-Bitcoin is doing what gold and silver are doing, just much faster because it's much easier to sell and the market lacks real volume and depth.
-There's definitely some panic among the common people who tried to sell their investments to get cash but governments begun to advise people to stop using cash, which made folks even more confused, so now they don't know what to do with the cash they have. They cannot bring it to the bank because banks got shut down like everything else.

At the moment people begun to buy some of their investments back and thus you can see a nice bounce on stocks, gold and Bitcoin.

2968  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Did gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping as a gambler? on: March 23, 2020, 03:19:13 PM
Every stress can cause insomnia, that's a well known fact. If you go into heavy debt that you cannot repay you'll also have trouble sleeping and is there even a difference between losing money at a casino or going into debt? In both cases the effect is the same - you're out of money and you need to get it somehow.
To get better you need to deal with the sickness not the symptoms. The sickness is lack of money, not insomnia. Come clean, tell your family you lost the money, get a job and earn it back, case closed.
2969  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump constant attack on China signals something big is coming soon. on: March 23, 2020, 03:08:03 PM
...
Now Trump is openly terming COVID-19 as Chinese Viru....

Do you have a problem with calling the virus from China the Chinese Virus?
Yes, when it's being done for purely political purposes which is what they're doing. These things do not get named for their location of origin which is a clear indication that they're doing it for other reasons.

Does it matter in what context it is used if it's the truth?
Imagine that a man sleeps with teenage boys and happens to be a presidential candidate. Another candidate openly says - don't vote for that sodomite! The other guy responds with -you shouldn't say that because you're using it for political reasons, that's unfair!
Like really? Do you see the stupidity of this situation?
2970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tyler Winklevoss: BTC is not a hedge to pandemics on: March 23, 2020, 02:23:58 PM
I believe people are seeing the pandemic just as another way of making money. The panic is juzt an excuise that people who can't understand how the markets work use to explain the current situation.
When stocks fell many wealthy investors saw it as an opportunity and started  taking leveraged position because that's what you do in stocks. They usually fall a little then go up again, so for the last 10 years all you needed to do is buy when they went down just a bit, but when they continued to fell and every next session closed lower people had to get money from somewhere to keep their positions from being liquidated so they sold their long term steady investments like BTC, commodities and so on. Silver has taken a big hit lately among other things.
2971  Other / Politics & Society / Re: STAY AT HOME: Let us help everyone to kill the virus. on: March 22, 2020, 06:10:45 PM

I don't have internet at home so I have to go out to coffee shops and internet cafes in order to share my sagacity with this forum...and to watch a little porn.

Watching porn in a coffee shop must be one of the weirdest thing you can do. The cringe counter is going off the scale.  Roll Eyes

I've been at home for the last 2 weeks, not counting that one time that I went to buy groceries. Everything seems to be fine and I have enough food for another 10 days. I'm also not bored at all. A lot of work in the house and it's spring so I have some gardening to do. I'm watching netflix, drinking beer, watching it all unfold.
2972  Economy / Economics / Re: a disease or a virus or is there business in it? on: March 22, 2020, 05:47:40 PM
You are right due to this capitalism they need the chance to try to to such a thing. this society is hooked in to superstition. They fool poor people and open their kingdoms. Capitalists don't take hold of everything, even the system is in their hands But nobody can do business with the Coronavirus because it's true and has spread everywhere the planet.

So capitalism is bad in your opinion, but what is better? Communism? Socialism? Give me a break!
This virus is the new form of global terrorism. I'm sure that ISIS and similar groups will now be more interested in buying germs than finincing suicide bombings and people who steal trucks and ram them into the unsuspecting crowd.
2973  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The UK is moving towards forced isolation for people over 70. on: March 22, 2020, 05:25:51 PM
its been many days since this topic was launched

True, but there's some interesting development in Italy.
I've read that they don't have enough respirators so they had to decide what age group can be sacrificed for the greater good. People above 60 aren't given oxygen and are not intubated so that those younger with higher chances can be treated. For this reason there's so many deaths in Italy when compared to other countries and there's most likely going to be more.
Just wait until the UK comes up with a similar "treatment".
2974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Store your bitcoin on: March 22, 2020, 05:09:23 PM
Holders will be those who will benefits from this coronavirus pandemic. Most investors who sold off their portfolios will regret their actions once the market stabilize, things like this will only affect those who aren't conversant with the way the digital currency work, the manipulations that are involved in the market. Store that Bitcoin in your confers means your strength whenever the price of the digital currency increase. Am holding my stash because I believed in the world of digital currency and not that of fiats.

Most of those who sold were bots and leveraged traders. You could see it on the charts because the majority of the collapse took less than an hour. Who has the ability to be online at the exact time when it crashes and ready to hit the sell button, when most of the candle forms in 10 minutes and then it's all over? Daytraders, bots, stop losses...
Investors, meaning people who hold coins in their hardware wallets, have no chance to catch this.
I'm in that group and I accept my fate.
2975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Coronavirus affects Bitcoin and when it will end on: March 22, 2020, 04:57:15 PM
I think that whoever had to sell has already done that. All the weak hands are already sitting on a pile of fiat, thinking about their next move.
With the decrease of new cases in China and the coming of Summer, I think we won't have to endure this epidemic for more than the next 2 months. The worst is behind us.
The scary truth is that most of us will get infected, but I've recently read that about 50% of all infected have no symptoms. There's really no need to worry, it's not the end of the world, not yet!
2976  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will all the world hold China responsible for corona-v on: March 22, 2020, 04:45:51 PM
I'm sure that China can't be held accountable for coronavirus pandemic. Such kind of polemic may lead to terrorism. It's more important to do all possible to stop the pandemic now. Blaming won't help here.

Don't be so sure. They should be held responsible.
The virus has traces of SARS that has not been seen for years and that also originated in China. Do you really believe that after dealing with SARS epidemic they simply left it at that and kept living their lives? They were conducting extensive research at all fronts to make use of all possible applications, and those include biological warfare. Covid-19 is a mutated version of SARS, an enhanced version. For this reason SARS was contained in Asia and Covid hit the whole world. Probably the only weakness of this virus is hot and dry air that kills it fast and slows the spread.
2977  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would a (bicycle) merchant go about accepting bitcoin? on: March 15, 2020, 09:44:30 PM
If I were a merchant and someone gave me this idea, I'd probably add bitpay or something like that. Personally, I think accepting BTC has a lot of advantages and brings more traffic to your site. Opens you up to a new group of clients and the costs are very small.

As for the bike, do you really prefer this type with a motor integrated into the crankset, instead of the rear wheel? Wheel integrated drives have much more power.
I thought about buying an e-bike, but rather something like this: https://lunacycle.com/sur-ron-x-bike-black-edition/

2978  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dont let them fool you. We will see a NEW BOTTOM. Maybe BTC at 3400$ again? on: March 15, 2020, 07:52:15 PM
Shorts themselves are future buyers, the ideal is gain both ways and some manage that I guess.

Exactly! If you only come to the market to short, and keep shorting against the market, you will hurt yourself. You short to go long and you go long to go short, when the trend reverses.
At this point it's a bit late to short.
If you short now, you bet on the epidemic lasting for a few more months. If you go long, you bet against it. It has to be said: you aren't trading with or against Bitcoin's trend, because what we're witnessing is not a trend, but a panic that originated from stocks, gold, oil, and all other markets.

Nope, I was shorting because I expected whales (yes, that people that converted BTC in ponzi) to dump, but this coronavirus is still worse. I said 8k when BTC was at 13k in summer... then 5k, 3.5k.. now I say $1000 soon. Anyone still thinking BTC is digital gold, safe haven , ... and all this bullshit propaganda, deserves to lose his money.  Do you think I am wrong? Ok, open long.. time will tell us who was right.

I have been long since 2015 and did great.

Ok, fine, according to you I deserve to lose my money. That will happen only if Bitcoin dies, which I'm still willing to bet against. Most of my money was and still is in Bitcoin and will remain there until one day I need it for retirement. We'll see who is going to laugh last.

I can also tell you that I've been here when Bitcoin was trading for $500 and people were committing suicides over it. I still held. Some people just have to lose money to understand the true value of some things.

The action fits my old chart quite well I reckon, both with trend from last summer high but also some reference even to the 2017 top there such is the vast range we tracked.  So below the 200 week average we are underneath the ice, its abnormal and we'll see how main markets and BTC react in sentiment.   Dare I say it could be considered a positively developing chart from here (if repeating), but we need time as surely the market wont agree all at once.

I'm not a trader, rather a long term investor and from my point of view all indicators are shoing that the move below 6k was driven by panic. It looked like the first move to 6k was a short liquidation wave and the next one that dipped below 4k was a panic followup by people who basically turned off thinking when they saw the first move.
Fear index at ATH, oversold RSI, no change in fundamentals. For me it's a buy opportunity all over again.
2979  Economy / Economics / Re: How many people have been panic selling? I didn't. on: March 15, 2020, 07:35:26 PM
I didn't sell, but I never do in these flash crashes. For me it's simply impossible to react to them as my coins are in cold storage. Getting them out and into an exchange would take hours, and I don't even follow the price every day, so if the crash happened I'd probably find out about it 6 hours later. Then I'd have to move all my coins to an exchange which would seem sketchy and risky, so I'd have to divide them into packs of a few BTC at a time. Of course selling would mean paying tax and revealing my holdings to the government. No thank you.
2980  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dealing with a country in lockdown on: March 15, 2020, 07:22:15 PM
I'll keep a look out for some road kill pheasant and deer as well.

In case of a real lockdown there will be no traffic and no roadkill. I've seen how people react to this and the streets are mostly empty, people prefer to stay at home. The roadkill you will find in a state of emergency will be a cat or a hedgehog...

If you really want to survive for a long time, the best things to store are:
dry pasta, rice, cans of any type (veggies, meat, fruit, fish). My wife loves pesto sauce and we have some stored in the pantry. You can easily make a nice and fast meal that will sustain you for half a day, out of a pack of pasta and a jar of pesto sauce. People don't need much to survive, prisoners who were fed bread and water in labour camps would tell you a few things about that.
