Awesome setup Phil -- thanks for posting the pix - learned a few more ideas for my warehouse.
This is the 4 x S9 connected to the solar farm right?
Yes this is,the solar setup. The fan pulls 1600 cfm. We finally have temps set. I think this will boost to 14 x 4 = 56th in the fall. We are at 51th at the moment. Very nice setup. im considering to jump on sidehack s7ln. I have 1 kw of solar running my shed that i dont use daily.. Id like to see how well it can handle running that miner off it. should keep up no problem and i use sealed lead acid for storage.. Once those die on me tho i will get the grid-tie system as i see that being the way to go forward. I was wondering if your system is grid tie or battery? also do you know what temp the upper area of that barn is? Just curious as to how it compares to my setup currently.. very similar:) Also what are you clocking your miners at now and what temps are they running at that speed(s9's). Thanks in advance .. Best Regards d57heinz just did more work on this.. will post more in ½ hour fan uses 159-160 watts ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FFYrkWd8.jpg&t=663&c=96z64YZKX-2ing) second fan notice the s-7. we will with up with 5 s-9's and 1 s-7 also notice safety rope on the box fan and on the miners. parachute cord. really strong ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FJEaCvrq.jpg&t=663&c=oVnMRH9B8bGZiw)

I've bit the bullet and ordered IO board and cable.
Will take the hash board out and check that when I get the chance. May just overclock the remaining 2 to 725/750.
I will just run that into the ground then.
let us know how it works. and keep the third board off line at first.

That's a very nice psu at a great price, but if you don't have 208/240v then you have to go with something like the EVGA 1600P, which runs very well at 110/120v on a 20amp circuit. Where is our block? 15+ hours and counting..... ![Embarrassed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif) yeah that kit looks to be good enough for the s-9 if you don't overclock. Since it is the summer in the US most of us are not overclocking.

my secondary account. I am philipma1957
gear came . fees for 2 units = 89 usd
could be worse. I think I won't ask many questions for the time being.
That is on par with what I paid today to clear my single B3 miner. I asked the UPS agent for a breakdoen and it was a total of $46.86 mostly Customs duty and something like $3-4 for the UPS brokerage fee to process the Customs duty and import clearance. Either the import thresholds have changed or the miner is mis-marked for shipping code. I'd have to look up the exact code but is supposed to be for: Electronic equipment, computer, no terminal or display or something like that. It also took an odd hop in Japan -- usual route is Shenzhen > Osaka > Anchorage > etc. This time it arrived in Narita first but then left from Osaka. Er? A bit of a trek there. FYI, I wrote to Bitmain about this and they claim that they haven't changed the shipping codes. The implication is that it's the dollar figure triggering the difference, or UPS has gotten gready. The fact that every S9 was in excess of $2k while every S7 was under ($1.8k I think) leads me to think that we're in that gray area that Phil indicated where anything north of $2k might be interpreted as commercial and hence subject to duty. I'm going to take this up with UPS, but I doubt it will change anything. Bitmain needs to understand that the $2k threshold has an impact on the US market. They should return to pricing that's more sane. They've been especially greedy this time. They probably would have made much more money if they had priced the S9 lower, assuming that they could fill the unit demand. Has anyone tried DHL? I know UPS and FedEX are charging. i think dhl charges a lot more to ship it. dhl 1 s7ln = 67.56 ups 1 s7ln = 82.08 fedex 1 s7ln = 54.51 well based on s7ln fees maybe I will give dhal a shot next time. but I really think I will just let it drop to under 1800 before I buy again

I got my both my b1 and 1st b3 without duty being charged and they both were more than this 3rd one. Getting 3 over that in ~1 month might raise a flag in tracking systems. yeah could be I did 2 batch 1's then 2 batch 2's grand total of 8300(estimated) with the shipping. I can not complain with my orders since dec 2013 I have not paid much. I will do a waiting game and mine for now.

well I got the four running.
2 are running on the 4k 2x dps-2000 psu's
1 is running on an evga 1600 p2
1 is running on optimizer's newer designed breakout board for the dps-1600, dps-2000 , dps-2500 psu's
so far all four are doing well with bigger gable fan.
Some thoughts you need need good air circulation if the area is warm. the fans are on 90% and we have the big 1600cfm gable fan. I will bring a kill a watt meter for the gable fan.
we are running 60-65 pcb and 90-95 chip on all boards.
the batch 1's are at freq 575 the batch 2's are at freq 600
ambient temps were 85f today in the barn
I am going back to setup that older s-7 batch one and will add more fans as push behind the intakes.
I still think these need a little more pop then the s-7s' in a psu. I also hope to get really good fall numbers with these units.
And I will not buy another until they drop under 1800 shipped

We are at 51th at the moment. looking at the size of your barn... you can fill a few more rows of S9s there! I can only imagine how it's like running on sun power maybe I should send my gears to you for hosting ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) well the power is buysolar the mining gear is mine. even though we can fit 20 s-9's and most likely cool them with more fans the array has a power cap. About 14kwatts for now. So take 5kwatts away for his home.. we have 9kwatts for gear. so s-9's 4 x 1300 = 5.2 kwatts 1 s-7 1 x 1300 = 1.3 kwatts total 6.5 kwatts I will most likley bring my most stable ethcoin setups so 1 more kwatt that is 7.5 kwatts Down the road this is expandable to 20kwatts which would be 14-15kwatts for the miners. To expand he has to pay the power company to upgrade the local transformers and some cables = $$$. Maybe next summer or the one after. The solar array is a longterm power source 25 year warranty. So heres to hoping mining is here for at least until 2030.

That's crazy. My understanding is the state determines the tax. The state as in "New Jersey"? I doubt it. They would want to collect sales tax obviously but they're not there yet. And that would be more than $89 anyway. There is probably some bullshit "convenience fee" in that amount. yes broker fee is around 60 and the import tax is about 29. I did a lot of research after the fact and will no longer order an s-9 until it drops to 1600 usd plus shipping as over 2000 is kind of subject and over 2500 is subject to tax. Yep, learned that lesson on an S7 buy where the total for two miners was $2,100. Broker fees seem to vary depending on the company UPS uses. When this happened to me, my broker fees were much lower but it took much longer (5-7 days) to clear with the company and was somewhat of a nightmare. Seems to have gone smoothly/quickly in your case. 1 day delay. Could be worse

What I have done is setup 4 s-9's for longterm testing 2 will use a rival breakout board. the 4kwatt j4bberwock on a pair of dps 2000 psus running 2 s-9's 1 will use optimizer's 2000 watt board on a dps-1600 psu 1 will use optimizer's 2000 watt board on a dps-2500psu. I have partial setup see link here. so far optimizer's board is doing okay with the dps-1600 psu https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1512186.msg15338392#msg15338392

Its an awesome news, if paypal is fully integrated with bitcoin then it will make the global transaction easier, recently coinbase keeps on innovating new way and system to atrract their customer
Yeah, but at the expense of privacy and everything that Bitcoin stands for. Look, I know that people want Bitcoin to become mainstream and want everyone in the world to be exposed to Bitcoins; but at what cost? If Bitcoin is going in on a "partnership" with paypal, how does Bitcoin differ from any other fiat money transfer if it is willing to become somewhat reliant on what paypal has to say? It just seems stupid to make this once P2P "digital cash" system we once had reliant on the most dictatorship of a money transfer service there ever was. coinbase was never private.

I'm not in US, in the UK.
I can get controller IO and cable from Bitmain for $20, but the shipping is $40! what a rip.
Their warranty basically covers nothing. It is not a warranty its just a list of ass covering... They take responsibility for nothing, so everyone has to lose money and suffer due to their incompetence.
sorry this is their biggest flaw when gear dies they fuck you. it has happened to me one time. and frankly i think in your case the board had an issue and killed the wire and the controller. you may need 3 parts the wire the controller the board. you could try selling the other 2 boards on uk ebay

Did you have it on a surge protector? Most of the time those offer insurance for your devices. If they end up being broken you could try that avenue.
Nope, just plugged into the outlet with the bitmain psu. If they're broken, I'm not buying replacements. I'm pretty close to ROI, but doubtful I'd ever really reach it. well if the fans had a manual speed they could be okay.. if they had auto speed it may be dead. turn it off overnight get some sleep and fuck with it tomorrow.
|
|
|
did you turn it off?
what are your fans set to?
if set to auto when it powered back up it could have toasted.

I'm on West Kaua'i Island, where ambient is usually around 80-90F. I use HDX wire shelving (like most folks, I think). I used 1" (2.5CM) styrofoam sheet insulation cut into pieces to friction-fit underneath each of three shelves (to seal them from other levels). I then cut slabs of foam to friction-fit as side panels between the wire shelf below/to the foam undercover of the shelf above. No glue needed, easy to remove for inspection. I ended up with three "tunnels" to channel air from one end to the other. I have two boxes (S3s now, but were S7s until I shipped them off) on each shelf, with the exhausts all pointing to one end. I then have a 20 in box fan on the intake end pushing air in, and another box fan on the exhaust end, which is in turn pushed up against an outside window. I also have two 20in box fans in the windows on the opposite side of the room (8 or 9 meters away) sucking air in from the outside, creating a constant cross-breeze. It's kept things copascetic so far. The noise attenuation with the S7s was noticeable as well; still not exactly quiet, but certainly quieter.
It'll be a day or two...I should probably cam it and put it up so folks can look at it. Been a bit busy at the moment.
Would love to see some pics. I need to make some modifications to the mining room to improve cooling to my growing mini-farm. Running the window AC all summer 12-14 hours a day is not the happiest thought. $$$ ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) here is the solar array with 4 s-9's mining on kano.is 42th and climbing https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1512186.msg15338392#msg15338392
