I don't have the details of ripple. However, based on the known info, it seems to have 2 fundamental problems:
1. double-spend. It seems ripple uses trust instead of mining to prevent double spend. Even if an IOU is issued by a trustworthy entity, people spending it may not. In contrast, in a colored-bitcoin scheme you only need to trust the IOU issuer, and the rest is protected by mining. If there is a trust-less and decentralized solution without any kind of proof-of-work or proof-or-stake, it would definitly be a bitcoin-killer (but I don't think this could happen).
2. Trust and anonymity are fundamentally incompatible concepts. Normally people won't trust an anonymous entity, especially for real money (the exceptions are anonymous services such as SilkRoad and TorWallet, which the users also demand anonymity).
-In real life banking, you won't get a credit card without showing all AML documents and proof of your salary. These sensitive personal information is kept by the bank and is (supposed) not to be disclosed.
-In bitcoin, which is decentralised, users have no choice but disclose their transactions to the world. On the other hand, mining makes bitcoin trust-less and user's identity is irrelevant. Therefore, bitcoin could be anonymous/pseudonymous.
-Ripple, however, is a decentraized web-of-trust system. This means all transactions have to be linked to entities in the real world. Who would like to let everyone know their account balance? Even worse, imagine a transaction like this: Bob sells a HD5970 to Calvin for a sex IOU issued by Ann. Is it going to be permanently written in the blockchain and known by everyone forever?

i ask this so that if i was to send my funds all over the place within a few minutes and then walked into a coffee shop that accepts BTC with no confirms. the transaction would be on hold till the confirms are completed due to high activity.
but if i done my funds transfers an hour ago, all the funds have confirms and then walked in to the same coffee shop and bought some coffee with BTC, the transaction would complete instantly, due to low activity on my address.
much like visa/mastercard fraud protection checks to see if a customer buying fuel in the customers home town whilst also using the card to do a transaction in another country within an unreasonable/impossible timeframe would then be flagged as a risk if that occurance happened, due to 'strange activity' on the account.
thus reducing the risks of a double spend. where basic terms/conditions of satoshi dice/coffee shop are that only transactions from an address with low activity will get accepted for instant use. where by addresses with alot of activity would have to wait for confirmations before the trade/sale/service is completed.

Needless to say, my offline Armory newly installed on a laptop is empty now and contains no money in it, but in the online Armory installed on my desktop (working together with the bitcoin-qt) there's some money because I've just sent them into it from my another bitcoin wallet.
Now I want to transfer the money in the online Armory to the offline laptop, (may need a USB flash stick again?) but the problem is that I don't know how to do it. (May be I'm a damned fool!)
Anybody can render me help? I need actual steps need to be done one by one.
The first person having given useful tips here shall get 0.5 BTC as reward, but not until I can solve the problem of course - no cure, no pay.

This has been answered in the Chinese forum: you don't need to "transfer" your bitcoin to a particular computer because your bitcoin is a record in the blockchain, not in your computer. This is a common misconception of newbies. Blockchain is a database of all bitcoin transactions in the history. Every computer running a full node (e.g. bitcoind, bitcoin-qt) has a copy of blockchain. If you want to check the account balance of your offline acounts, just go to blockchain.info or blockexplorer.com. Or you can use a watch-only wallet on an online computer. Till today I was working as a taxi driver in germany. I put some stickers up on the car windows that iam accepting bitcoins. So am i. But my boss didnt know anything about bitcoin and that iam accepting them.
Today a customer called my company and asked for the taxi that is accepting bitcoins. So everybody knows and I got fired because i did it without his permission.
I told all my customers about bitcoin and sold some of them my coins. But now iam workless because of bitcoins. that suxs.
Sue your boss for wrongful dismissal. I presume he or she did not give you a lawful notice of dismissal, and did not retain you to the end of your term. I exchanged money in his car and accepted/sold/ bitcoins. So he cant trust me anymore and thats a reason to dismissal me instant. Right now I think about to start my own taxi company. But you cant just buy a car and be a taxi. I need a license for it and the city doenst give new licenses because we have enaugh taxis. Guess I have to buy a license from someone who wants to quit his business. But its ~35.000 usd:/ It would be suuuch a high promotion for bitcoins on a taxi. Do you know how much a taxi license worth in Hong Kong? It's 850000USD! |

Armory 離線錢包(offline wallet)教學
在標準bitcoin客戶端 (又稱Satoshi客戶端), 如果要使用bitcoin或查詢結餘, 密匙(wallet.dat)也必須放在一台在線的電腦, 好處是使用方便. 雖然wallet.dat可以再用密碼加密, 但一旦中了木馬, 駭客便有機會同時得到wallet.dat及其密碼, 輕易取得所有結餘. 事實上, bitcoin的設計根本不需要把密匙放在在線的電腦, 因此有離線錢包(offline wallet)的出現, 而Armory是最好用的一個.
1. 首先找一台舊電腦, 配置不需要高, 能用windows xp就夠, 有X Window介面的Linux如debian或ubuntu也可以. (要保證沒有中毒, 雖然一般中毒也不應該導致風險, 但說不定將來會有針對Armory offline wallet的木馬)
2. 關掉任何自動運行的功能 (例如插入U盤/DVD後自動運行盤上的程式). 這步非必要, 就會更安全
3. 拔掉網線, 該電腦永遠不要再上網
4. 安裝Armory (不用安裝Satoshi客戶端)
5. 創建一個新錢包, 把paper wallet印出來收藏好, 也可以用U盤備份錢包
6. 轉為Advanced或Expert模式, 關掉Armory再開
7. 雙按那新建的錢包, 選Create Watching-Only Copy
8. 把產生出來的Watching-Only Wallet, 經U盤轉到另一台上網的電腦; 該電腦要裝有Satoshi和Armory客戶端
9. 按正常程序打開Armory (即先打開Satoshi, 同步後再打開Armory)
10. 按Import Wallet, 選剛才的Watching-Only Wallet, 再按Yes
11. 現在你應該可以看到錢包的結餘; 如果是新錢包, 結餘當然是0
12. 雙按該Watching-Only Wallet, 按"Belongs to:"旁的"Someone else", 選"This wallet is mine", 代表你擁有該錢包的密匙.
13. 按Receive Bitcoins, 你就可以把錢轉到新產生的地址了
Watching-Only Wallet只有公匙, 沒有密匙; 沒有密匙所以不能用錢, 有公匙所以可以看到結餘. 因為不能用錢, 所以不需要密碼加密, 被偷了也只能看到結餘, 不會有金錢損失. 密匙仍然保管在那台離線電腦和紙錢包上

再一个问题是，从 bitaddress 那里得到了新生成的地址和私钥后，再怎么做呢？我现在的bitcoin-qt原来就有它自己的地址和私钥，钱包里有钱。。。
上面已有提到 要使用bitaddress.org產生的paper wallet (其實就是WIF的Private key), 用官方客戶端就很麻煩, 我建議用Armory. 首先把Armory改為Advanced或Expert模式後重啟, 雙按你的錢包, 選Import/Sweep Private Key. 如果想同時加入多個private key, 可以選Multiple Keys, 然後輸入你的Private Key, 最後選第二項"Import these address to your wallet". 那麼你的錢包便會多了這些新地址, 你也可以用裏面的錢. (如果你最後選了Sweep any funds....., Armory就會把那些private key內的錢全部轉到你原有錢包的地址內.)
請注意你引入(import)的private key是不受Armory的paper wallet保護, 你必須另外記下來. 要加到你原有的bitcoin-qt wallet.dat也可以, 但需要手動打命令, 不建議初學者使用 |

刚才我到 bitaddress org ，按了 brain wallet ，输入了两次短语后，出来了比特币地址和私钥。但，当我把网页下载到本地和移动硬盘后，在打开的页面上输入短语后，却没有出来比特币地址和私钥，只看见两个二维码方块（见图）。按了打印后，打印出来的纸上啥都没有，连二维方块都没有。  你用的是什麼瀏覽器? 請用google chrome或internet explorer |

I will register as soon as you get the debit card  Actually, a real Bitcoin debit card (not the prepaid credit card that BitInstant calls a debit card...) would be awesome. That is, balance is always in Bitcoins; deposit cash at an ATM to "buy" bitcoins automatically, or withdraw/spend it to "sell". Davout, the site mentions a lack of fees to deposit MtGox codes, but I don't see any way to actually do it? We're going towards a dual debit card, with EUR and BTC balances spendable. Depositing MtGox codes is on our roadmap, (it's also technically developed) but we haven't rolled it out yet. We need to figure out the proper way to accept them without relying too much on MtGox. We would be in deep sh*t if we were holding a massive balance at MtGox and it suddenly went under. We will do it, but we will do it the right way, probably something along the lines of "Paymium takes the risk of a MtGox default by actually buying your code for EUR/USD when you deposit it". You see the problem ? Possible solution for MtGox default risk: 1. Provide free MtGox code withdrawal 2. Arbitraging between MtGox and Bitcoin-Central. Since you don't need to pay transaction fee for your own part, a small price difference would cover the transaction fee or even profit |
