301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 1+ hr before first confirmation? more problems with multibit on: August 18, 2013, 03:28:22 PM
Hello, I have an unconfirmed transaction that is seen by 1 peer, and it has been almost an hour

I've been having difficulties with multibit sporadically for some time, but I know this one has the automatic fee sent with it too

which was .0001  is the fee supposed to be .0005 ? I don't see a place to set that
302  Economy / Auctions / Re: [AUCTION] 3559 ASICMINER shares (direct) on: August 18, 2013, 06:02:10 AM
wow

Don't mean to scare anyone though, I've held these shares since the IPO and as of yesterday qualify for 15% capital gains tax rate. I'm only selling about 2/3 of the shares I own for now.

I figured it was 2/3rd's of your 5000 shares

this sale is going to keep AM around 3.9 btc/share for a very long time

Haha, I like how you handled this in your FAQ,  these exact kinds of questions quickly derailed my fund offering as I wasn't prepared for them...

There have still been plenty of questions that I didn't anticipate in the FAQ, though; there might even need to be an expanded version of the FAQ when all is said and done...

I'll be looking for it, I will consider using it as a model for my next fund
308  Economy / Service Discussion / any limits on bitstamp.net? on: August 16, 2013, 05:10:51 AM
Hello guys, are there any arbitrary buying/selling deposit/withdrawal limits on bitstamp.net

I was level 2 or 3 on Mt. Gox and could theoretically move $100,000 usd out of Mt Gox daily

I am level 2 on Coinbase and can buy/sell 50 btc every 24 hours, but this is around $5,000 usd today and pales in comparison to $100,000
309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Banks Increasingly Difficult To Work With on: August 16, 2013, 05:08:58 AM
I have tried signing up with IAFCU and haven't received any response. Are they still in business? just swamped?

I wouldnt bother. I signed up and it was mostly painless with a very friendly phone call a few days later to get account access.

Sadly though I still await any information about how to do wire transfers with IAFCU. Submitted a support request and waited 2 days to hear...."oh international wire transfers...someone will have to call you back". Still waiting.

Similar results for CBX. I have been a customer for a year or more and recently submitted the full suite of docs they want for AML and KYC. I have heard nothing back from CampBx for more than a week.

There just doesnt seem to be a good way to move USD in or out of ANY of the exchanges any more!

Coinbase is decent

50 bitcoin daily limit though, so if you need to dump $100,000 usd this will take a long time

bASIC-Mining Increases Hashrate

bASIC-Mining is pleased to announce the further expansion of it's ASIC mining inventory. Two additional Avalon batch 3 rigs, each with 4 hashing modules have been obtained. This addition is expected to bring bASIC-Mining's total hashrate up to approximately 1,210,000Mh/s. The new hardware is currently being configured and will be available to add to mining revenue as early as tomorrow, Wednesday August 14.

Management remains committed to a policy of strong growth and careful hardware selection in this rapidly expanding Bitcoin network environment. The company's active hardware assets consist of the following:

(1) BFL Minirig SC

(4) BFL Single SCs

(3) Avalon 4 module rigs

(3) Avalon 3 module rigs

(2) Radeon HD 6770 GPUs

(2) Radeon HD 7770 GPUs

Cheers,

CreativeX

If posts like this do absolutely nothing to price anymore then what will?
Just a month ago this could've made the stock go up 30% or more within hours. Now, nothing. Looks like those days are over. Not just for basic mining but for pretty much all the others as well.
I bought way too high and i'm looking to get out but without a massive loss.
I'm waiting for the price to go up again but i'm really wondering what they possibly can do for the price rise a lot again...
Buy 10 new miners? 20? This obviously won't happen...so anything else i don't know about?

This is my current position as well. I was contemplating posting the same question as well, but was afraid of the backlash.

I too, would like to ask what are some realistic things (besides difficulty drop off, bitcoin price explosion, miners fee quadrupling, aliens ect) that could raise the price in the near (days/weeks/months) future?

never heard of "buy the rumor, sell the news" ?

people were anticipating hardware acquisitions in basic, now they aren't. the volatility fizzled like a balloon popping (this is how volatility acts on all equities btw, after news is out)

everyone knows that basic's dividends can barely keep up with the hashrate adjustments *NO MATTER WHAT* for the next few weeks, at least, so asking for growth on top of that is out of the question

creativex just keep up the hardware acquisitions, as individual miners get squeezed out of the market as things become too difficult for them, basic can scale much more efficiently
311  Economy / Securities / Re: Legal Risk you should know when you invest in CHINESE BTC Stock on: August 16, 2013, 01:59:13 AM
China's national television- CCTV(China Central Television),  has reported Bitcoin affirmatively twice this year.

I do not see any chance that bitcoin will be declared as illegal in short-mid term in China.

except this has nothing to do with declaring bitcoin illegal

this is about prohibitions of unregistered capital formation, most countries have regulations regarding this, the penalties in China for ignoring these regulations can have criminal sanctions

Q: OMG, are you some kind of total n00b? You only registered on the forum in June! Who do you think you are, proposing an investment fund without at least [insert preferred number] posts or activity level [insert preferred number] under your belt?

A: I appreciate that many who have participated in the forum for longer periods of time have invested thousands of dollars worth of their time in generating hundreds or even thousands of forum posts. I also appreciate that the longer a person has been involved with the forums, the more opportunities they have had to have been personally duped by someone who later turned out to be a scammer. I understand that this can create a very strong incentive not to repeat the mistakes of the past and to treat everyone who has not followed the same path of investing large sums in forum posts as arrogant, incompetent, or out to get you (maybe all three). However, I hope that even the oldest of old timers will acknowledge that not everyone treats investing large sums in forum posts — or even registering on the forum at all — as a pre-condition for learning about Bitcoin, for using Bitcoins, or for investing in the Bitcoin economy. (I am far from alone in having done all of these things before registering on the site, as evidenced at the very least by my articles published prior to registering for a forum account.) The ghosts of scammers past demonstrate all too well that forum longevity does not on its own imply anything about trustworthiness or competence; registration date on a forum is simply not a reliable proxy for either competence or trustworthiness. On the contrary, a robust and well-aged forum account is a scammer's single most powerful tool of exploitation. Nor does the absence of forum longevity on its own imply anything about an absence of trustworthiness or competence.

314  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] IPO Details for BTC-GROWTH on: August 14, 2013, 12:09:30 PM

3. Fees: 2%(base)+20% (from profits) is way too high IMO. I guess I would skip this opportunity.

This is pretty standard in hedge fund land, but hedge funds haven't been getting this since 2007

the risk sharing model has been more attractive, where the manager only profits when the fund's positions profit

there hasn't been a single fund in bitcoin land that has demonstrated massive returns, and in the securities market, things have been too illiquid for a fund of massive size to replicate the returns of the securities there
315  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] IPO Details for BTC-GROWTH on: August 14, 2013, 12:07:47 PM
For folks who didn't notice, please be aware there is a separate discussion thread for general questions or comments about the fund. This thread is intended to be solely for information about the mechanics of Thursday 15 August.

There is also a detailed listing document on the exchange itself; if you have a question or a comment to make, please be considerate to other users and read the document first to see if your question is answered there or to see if your comment coheres with the facts of how the fund is organised.

Last but not least, as I mentioned earlier, I will be out of the office today.

what is the link to the separate discussion
316  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens when bitcoin meets a down-to-earth regulator? on: August 14, 2013, 06:51:30 AM

This really is a must watch interview.  Notice how the regulator isn't out to squash bitcoin... this guy actually gets it.

the anarchists and people affliated with libertarians have made a lot of assumptions about what the regulator and government implies, when it comes to bitcoin

the CFTC is also very excited about bitcoin

you can't have people like Amir be the first person they talk to when they are open to embracing the emergent technology
317  Economy / Securities / Re: [BITFUNDER] [BTCT] [HAVELOCK] Amethyst - 3btc a share. on: August 14, 2013, 06:15:53 AM
Update - before going onto an exchange we just wanted to do a quick update to the contract. Due to the very high demand we will be releasing a further 10 million shares on all exchanges at 3btc. We ask that those with shares at the moment to try and give other people a chance into this life changing venture. We ask that you only keep your bids to 10btc.

Lets do the math.

10 Million shares * 3 BTC/share = 30 Million Bitcoins.
Only 21 Million Bitcoins will ever exist, So how do you plan to sell all 10 Million shares?

lol, I've seen stuff like that, look at the stub quotes on ASICMiner, the ones for like 20 bitcoins a share. AM's market cap would be larger than all bitcoins possible for that to get filled
318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoin companies, how to deal with USA regulations on: August 14, 2013, 06:11:29 AM
regulations are expensive

securities companies: hiring a compliance officer is expensive

money transmitter fine or subpoena?

319  Economy / Securities / Re: [POLL] Which BTC stock exchange do you prefer? Follow up on recent comparison on: August 14, 2013, 05:37:43 AM
I like BTCT.CO, its fun and the emails are gratifying and the addition of Coinflow linking makes things pretty convenient, compared to the state of other bitcoin stock exchanges (kinda a low bar). Wish coinflow had candlestick charts though. I feel like I'm flying blind with the current charts because I rely more on the history tab of recent trades, my own memory of prices as I update a spreadsheet daily, and the current order book depth, instead of the charts.

Bitfunder is kind of a wtfweexchange mess. Actual trading on it is fine though, no email gratification when things happen though.

I haven't moved anything to Havelock yet

last time I looked at them, Asicminer passthroughs were the only thing anyone was looking at and I didn't need Havelock for that
320  Economy / Securities / Re: [POLL] Which BTC stock exchange do you prefer? Follow up on recent comparison on: August 14, 2013, 05:34:48 AM

That one Chinese Exchange that has its own ticker cannot recall the name: Dunno still observing but it had AM.

796.com

I offered to help them on their english/american outreach, because they are currently easily forgettable!
