301  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: September 23, 2013, 03:38:30 PM
I was testing Minepeon 0.2.2 and tried to change to bfgminer but for some reason it doesn't work, Also tried Minepeon 0.2.3a and got the same issue.

Currently i have no clue what might be wrong.

302  Bitcoin / Mining support / ASIC Blade Stats - PHP Script on: September 23, 2013, 03:49:44 AM
Not really sure where this post should actually go, but it's more of a support script I made for blades. Granted I'm using BFGMiner as a proxy, so I can fully see every thing going on through BFGMiner on MinePeon... and through the rPi's LCD on my desk.

However, I've built blade setups for people I know and host them. Some people like to see the statistics directly from the blades and not from the miner (what?!? I know, I know...), so this script scrubs each blades page (blade hosts are user defined in an array), then outputs the results.

I'm also going to be adding to this, it was made in a very short time, now I think the idea is to allow setting changes directly through this page rather than having to go to each individual blade's page. By doing this I can also add some verification to verify the settings, etc, etc...

I believe you get the idea. This was a small side thing I put together in a very short time today, I've not bothered with a design, it's a simple table with statistics, it doesn't allow for browser caching, so the page is always 'fresh'. I didn't feel like doing a meta refresh nor taking the time to do a quick js refresh with a timer (so sue me).

If some people are interested in using this for their personal farms or what have you, let me know and I'll post up some links and add in a few things tomorrow to it.

Requirements:
A web server running PHP 5+, the web server must be on the same network as the blades (unless you care to get fancy with stuff, be my guest).

:: Edit ::
If a moderator is so inclined to think I posted this in the wrong section, please move accordingly. I didn't put it in mining software, because it's not a miner, it's more of a support script to combine all of the blade pages into one single page.

Btw I just updated the OP! These units will be using Blue LED's instead of Red! So they are now dubbed.... BLUE FURY! Smiley

just made my day, might order a few more now... haha

though not sure what I'm going to do with my extra 0805 blue smd's now... <eyes current usb erupters>

this is actually pretty comical now...

I was trying to be nice on my last post, but this is pretty funny now  Grin
305  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Raspi + D-link dub h-7+ asic erupters problem on: September 22, 2013, 09:19:48 AM
Im running 32 erupters on 4 dlink 7 ports and one 10 port off brand that hold 8 sticks on cgminer 3.1.1 with no problems highest errors I see are 2% but usually stays around 1%. I reboot about every 24hrs when I can, I sometimes see errors in one or more chips for more then a few secs if that happens I just reboot until it clears.

I know ckolivas and the other developers are trying their best at CGMiner and they've all done a great job. However, when people are saying 3.1.1 is more stable than 3.4.3, that's just a lot of revisions in between to go from stable to unstable. Everyone that's running CGMiner and it's 'stable' or 'without issues' (in regards to using USB Erupters) always states they are running 3.1.1. I know there's be some blame on libusb, but how is it 3.1.1 is more stable than 3.4.2 or 3.4.3 for one set of devices. It would be my basic assumption that something in the code base has been overlooked somewhere between 3.1.1 and where we are now.

I'm on the latest of BFGMiner, haven't had to restart in over 4 days (might be 5 days now), no weird reports on any numbers, everything is stable and doing it's job. It's my opinion to be efficient & things working correctly, you shouldn't have to restart every 24 hours or even every week/month.

I 2nd the Rosewill RHB-500's, got 28x Erupters running atm, no issues, will have another 28x online soon.
307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Comprehensive ASICMiner Blade Setup on: September 22, 2013, 04:04:42 AM
Curious about something...

So, I've been running 4x V2 blades for a few days now, restarted the proxy-miner a few times just due to moving things around w/e...

The blades are cool to the touch (ie: not hot at all, ie: efficient cooling), I noticed I'm getting a lot of hardware errors (Accepted: 107,329, Rejected: 2,788, HWError: 26,678).

Granted it's not too crazy, but my 28x USB Erupter setup has Accepted 116,529, Rejected: 265, HWError: 1,980.

Wondering if this seems normal (for the blades) to anyone?

308  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [USA - NOW OPEN] 0.79-0.9 BPMC "RED FURY" 2.2-2.7 GH/s USB MINER! GB#9! on: September 22, 2013, 03:03:09 AM
Just curious. Not trying to run off your business or anything. But isn't it cheaper per gh/s to buy asic blades? I know the power consumption will be lower but the asic blades are already pennies a day to run.

Like right now I can get 10.7gh/s for 3.65btc by buying an asic blade.
or I could buy 4 Red Fury USB miners and get 10gh/s for 3.6btc.

But here is the kicker. I can get the asic blade shipped to me in under 3 days and be hashing immediately.
I would have to wait 2+ weeks to receive a Red Fury. We should see asic blades drop below 3btc each within 2 weeks.
Also difficulty of bitcoin will go up quite a bit in 2 weeks. We all know the more time it takes to get an asic the less you will make and the chance of making ROI goes down dramatically.

Its pretty obvious if you are going to be buying mining hardware that you should get an asic blade.

Can anyone counter this argument?

Yes.

If you haven't got 3.65btc then for less that 1btc this is the best you are going to get.

Don't forget blades aren't the most user friendly for new miners.

I can counter this.... you can still get usb erupters for about the same cost as blades.  30 erupters @ .12 is about 10GH for 3.6BTC.  Shipped tomorrow Cheesy.  Still user friendly and about exact same cost of blades.  I think people are looking longer term with red fury's based on the insanely low electricity.  It is negligible when we're talking about 1-2 units, but when you venture off into the 333 Gh range @1k units =2500 kw/h month ($250/month @.10) which is no longer pennies.  Same hashing power can be bought with red furry's for 7.5 x less electricity, consequently bringing electricity down to 333 kw/h per month ($33.3).  I think this is why they can charge the same and still make people wait a couple of weeks. I guess my point is that there are a lot of option to fit your needs.  If you're looking at only spending 1 BTC and you want something now... go with an erupter.  If you want larger long term mining (and save some electricity in the process), maybe look at fury's, which you can probably even offload on ebay at a profit.   Both have pros and cons, just have to look at your individual situation.

To add to this; Not only would electricity costs go down, but I'm running 4 blades in a separate room, the entire room is about 7 degrees (F) hotter than any other room, that is with 5x 140mm & 2x 200mm fans operating at all times. In short, they heat up, granted with the fans they are cool to the touch, but they do generate a decent amount of heat. I imagine these probably won't heat up that much (if they are anything like ASIC USB Erupters), we'll see...

Which is why I bought only two, so I can see how they are going to perform, also what kind of temperatures they generate, how much cooling they need, etc, etc...

indeed it seems that cgminer does crash when using usb miners... BFG has been working solid for the past 10 hours

Since I switched to BFGMiner, 4d 8h 16m 36s uptime thus far.

Speaking of which i have sort of an issue. BFG mines fine with usb miners, but whenever it reboots it doesn't mine automatically like cgminer, i have to ssh into the Pi, and go into manage devices and type ALL for BFGminer to find the USB erupters...

So whenever my Pi crashes, i would have to physically log into Pi, and type in ALL just to get the Bfgminer going again... Anyway automated way for bfg to just recognize the devices from the get-go?

Do you start it with the switch -S 'erupter:all' ?

^ except without the single quotation marks.

Your bfgminer.service file should look something like:

Code: (/usr/lib/systemd/system/bfgminer.service)
[Unit]
Description=bfgminer
After=network.target openntpd.service

[Service]
Type=forking
User=minepeon
ExecStart=/usr/bin/screen -dmS bfgminer /opt/minepeon/bin//bfgminer/bfgminer -S erupter:all -c /opt/minepeon/etc/miner.conf
ExecStop=/usr/bin/screen -S bfgminer -X quit
Restart=always

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Ill do 10BTC

For that I would just buy more blades, 10.5BTC for three blades (3.5BTC/ea) getting over 30GH/s, or just spend another 2BTC on 15 more erupters for 5Gh/s. I'm merely interested in the fact that it's a "mythical" BFL item, haha.

Good luck with the sale, but I think you need to be more realistic in terms of what you want for it.

Updated with images of LCD differences.
314  Economy / Computer hardware / RaspberryPi Kits [Pre-Configured & Soldered] - US ONLY on: September 21, 2013, 07:02:08 AM
I'm doing this for people who wish to use RaspberryPi's and/or want a LCD screen for their RaspberryPi's.

All Raspberry Pi's come configured with the latest stable build of MinePeon, also all operating system packages will be updated, both bfgminer and cgminer will be updated to their latest stable build.

I only charge for my services, all parts ordered through me are at my cost,(ie: no up charge on parts ordered through me when including a service). I'm not going to over charge you on prices for parts, I get everything directly from one of three licensed suppliers in the US. If something is out of stock or delayed, you will be notified of said delay.

I also offer services to build LCD screens for RaspberryPi's if you supply the parts.

All prices are in BTC using MtGox exchange rate, prices are subject to change at any time (as I said, I do not up-charge for the parts, however I will try to only change prices with there is a significant increase or decrease of the current BTC exchange rate). Prices updated on 2013-10-16 17:30:00 EST

This will only be available in the USA; Sorry no international shipping.
All services are done from within the USA, shipped from within the USA (FL).

Packages

Services Offered
  • RaspberryPi Setup & Configuration @ 0.4274BTC
  • LCD Soldering for RaspberryPi LCD Kits @ 0.2493 BTC

Configuration Options
  • Wireless Network Configuration - If you would like for me to pre-configure your RaspberryPi for *YOUR* wireless network, I can. However there is no absolute guarantee it work and you will be required to give me your wireless SSID, if security is enabled, I need to know what type of security and the passphrase/password used to access it. I will replicate the network SSID & security locally where I am. (Technically, it should find the wireless by the SSID and use the security once plugged in at your location, however if it does not, it will default to the wired ethernet connection.)
  • Default Miner - If you have a preference of which miner is the default upon start up (either BFGMiner or CGMiner), please let me know.

*24 hour test "burn-in" period will be done using two of my own ASIC USB Erupters on a Rosewill RHB-500 USB hub, during said 24hr period, all hashing generated will be donated to MinePeon project.

Turn around times
  • If I have the parts locally in stock, 3 business days.
  • If I do not have the parts locally in stock, 6-11 business days (as it depends on how fast I receive the parts from the supplier, usually it takes 3-4 business days).
  • If you have sent me the parts, 3 business days from the time said parts are received.

I'd also like to bring something to the attention of the MinePeon WebGui developers: when diff is greater than 1 in cgminer, the WebGui reports the number of accepted shares as the total accepted shares divided by the diff. So in my rig with 10 AMUs, cgminer 3.4.2 sets my diff to 10 automatically. This means that while one of my AMUs has 3400 accepted shares, only 340 accepted shares appear in the WebGui, skewing all of the statistics.

Granted I stopped using CGMiner due to instability with working with over 20 miners, however, there are some stats still off from console to webUI (mainly HW Error % from my screenshots). I really don't think the code is doing anything with the stats from the API other than pulling them directly from the miner, but I am going to take a look into it, I did see a few things awhile back.

to be honest, I didn't think it would... I have a Raspbian fully updated and it doesn't detect anything USB 3.0... if you want it to work with the Pi, best chances are sticking to USB 2.0

Thanks tk1337.

I read that the USB 3.0 issues have been resolved with latest distros... Is that correct with Peon?

"I actually got this to work. It's not the power issue which everyone immediately points to because I was using a powered USB hub. The drives I'm using actually have an adapter that translates their multi-use interface to USB (Seagate backup plus).. looking at some linux forums I found that this was a Kernal issue and I realized I didn't perform the regular
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

on this new build (using SqueezPlug actually).. after the upgrade, which took a while, everything shows up and mounts fine. That solved it for me."
______________________________________________________________________________

I ask because I cant seem to get it running....
To my knowledge the limitations are on the raspberryPi, technically with that being said, devices that have backwards compatibility are a "shot-in-the-dark" as to if said device will work on the raspberryPi. All they basically did was update the package lists and then upgrade the packages installed on said system. Depending on the distribution and package support of said distro, it may or may not help you.

Would man pacman work the same as apt-get in this instance?  If so which man pacman operation would I use?

There also seems to be this solution: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/coffee-lounge/176400-possible-solution-get-usb-3-0-devices-work.html

but I'm not the best Linux guy so I was hoping it was already in MinePeon?

pacman is a package manager just like apt-get, however, the commands are different, for more information see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman

The command you are looking for is
Code:
sudo pacman -Syu
which will update the packages and upgrade them in a single command. I have done this recently on both my rPi's running MinePeon, however, I would suggest making sure you've expanded the partition as the default MinePeon installation is a 2GB partition with about 70% used from the get-go. Whether or not this would fix your issue with using a device that's USB 3.0 and backwards compatible, is not for certain.

I seem to be asking lots of questions before I get answers. sorry Sad

When you:
sudo systemctl stop cgminer.service
sudo systemctl disable cgminer.service
sudo systemctl enable bfgminer.service
sudo systemctl start bfgminer.service

Does that permanently use bfgminer when MinePeon reboots?

Yes & no problem... I was out having a beer Wink
320  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon on: September 20, 2013, 04:32:13 PM
By the way, all of you doing a
Code:
cd /opt/minepeon
git pull
cd http
git pull

Please keep in mind, most of that is *not* finished, so you are downloading beta/test versions of code, therefore it's not actually been released for you to use. So it's more of a use at your own risk type of deal, complaining about it and making posts about the same things not working, isn't really beneficial as they have already been stated not working and people are working on the issues.

With that being said, if you do update to the beta/test versions of the WebUI code, I would suggest doing a backup of the original first, like so:

Code: (Backing up the http directory)
cd /opt/minepeon
cp -R http/ http_bkup/
cd http/
git pull

If you are having problems, simply move the newly installed code (or delete if if you want) then move the old code back.

Code: (Restoring old http directory)
cd /opt/minepeon
mv http/ http_broken/
mv http_bkup/ http/
