301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: November 09, 2017, 03:20:33 PM
All of the wallet issues recently plus some downtime of the mining pools for ether (example minergate today) means lower supply; meaning price will go up. Actually it is going quite up today.

Let's see for how long.

There are rumors that Vitya will burn some ether, is there any confirmation of this news? If so, how many and when?

What do you mean by burn?
303  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which one is a better investment Bitcoin Or Ethereum, on: November 09, 2017, 10:54:21 AM
Currently - invest in bitcoin; if you follow the news carefully, you'll see a lot of hassle now with the segwit fork and so... So bitcoin could be quite volatile at the moment - you'd better catch the right moment.

ETH is in trouble now with some exploits, but the guy behind it Vitalik Buterin is quite trustworthy which makes the ETH community not lose trust in ETH platform. At the moment all alts are going up (because of the btc news), so you either invest in them right away or wait for future dips.

Mining me some free IOTA. I am going to be rich....  Cool

But seriously, this is a nice way of obtaining some IOTA to play with (explaining it to friends etc).
Ha,tried,nice.

Could you withdraw? Smiley

Is it worth buying S9 now ??

Dudes are constantly posting this everywhere in the forums - is mining profitable in such and such an date on such and such a machine? Is an S9/741/GPU/CPU/Raspberry Pi profitable to mine on yesterday / today / tomorrow?

You can't do anything more than guess at mining revenues beyond a couple difficulty cycles anyway, so ROI calculation is pretty useless. Cost of electricity is far less important than the anticipated exchange rate of BTC at a certain time in the future - that is really the only metric that matters. I'm sure all those folks that have high power rates and talked themselves out of mining at a loss (or when the ROI was theoretically far into the future) back when BTC was $400 are kicking themselves now, because they were using the entirely wrong metric to calculate ROI.

Along with up front investment and operational costs, you have to have a target goal for the exchange price of BTC built into your calculations. When we setup our farm earlier this year, mining at the current price of BTC (about $ 1600) + the price of electricity looked pretty dubious on paper. But when we set a target price of $10,000/BTC for Fall of 2018, the notion became quite profitable in theory. Nothing like BTC has ever existed before, so that's all it can be - a theory.  Will that happen? Who knows. But it's every bit as plausible any any other metric we might have used, so we went for it.

ROI/profitability over any reasonable period of time is a figure you just can't calculate anyway. Do you believe in BTC? Any investment in BTC via mining or trading is speculation. You invest funds you can afford to loose based on the possibility of a future high return. Many years (or days lol!) from now when BTC is $35,000 or $350,000 you will be glad you saw beyond things like power costs or if you would get your money back on your mining equipment in six months, and if BTC is $0 then you really didn't loose that much relative to the potential gain and you'll have some great 1400w space heaters that have the upside of sounding like fighter jet engines on the tarmac. Heat the house and imagine you're Maverick from Top Gun.

"Engage Maverick - Engage! Ice Man is in trouble! You have to Engage!"   Wink

Poor Goose.

The only thing for sure is the longer you wait around hand wringing about an unknowable variable like ROI, the less profit you are likely to make in the long run. Based on the information you can gather, what do YOU think (not someone else) is going to happen in the future? Trade on that and, win or loose, you'll always be OK.

Wow, very well said!

Ethereum’s Casper Update On The Horizon: What You Need To Know
by William Peaster

Ethereum’s developers have announced the platform’s highly anticipated Casper update could be rolled out potentially as early as the next “Constantinople” hard-fork.

Casper will represent the initialization of Ethereum’s shift away from the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus protocol toward a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocol.

Importantly, the final rendtion of Casper isn’t finalized yet. ETH’s top developers are scrutinizing two renditions of Casper—what they’ve termed Casper CBC and Casper FFG.

For now, though, it looks like the devs are leaning toward the FFG version. As the Casper FFG whitepaper points out:

“Casper is a partial consensus mechanism combining proof-of-stake algorithm research and Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus theory.”

Essentially, then, the FFG version will be the “blueprint” that Ethereum follows in switching to PoS. Conversely, the CBC rendition will actually govern Ethereum’s consensus process once the PoS system is implemented.

When it comes down to it, the final edition of Casper will surely be inspired by the best parts of both Casper CBC and Casper FFG....

This shift will allow “stakers” to secure the ETH network for annual profits by holding their coins in approved wallets as opposed to the current system in which miners are responsible for securing the network.

Seeing to it that Casper’s implemented smoothly will mark a milestone years in the coming for the team.

Indeed, the situation looks bright now, as ETH founder Vitalik Buterin’s saying everything’s mapped out nicely:

“It should be done … I would say very soon. The parts that aren’t done are fine details of the contract. The actual spec of the fork is not going to be particularly complex. It’s basically just increase the balance of a contract then change the fork choice rule by adding a couple function calls going into the Casper contract. If those details change, that would not affect anything of the client implementation by much.”

Hey,

I tried reading about Casper and stuff, also devcon briefs, but I couldn't really get this part: "his shift will allow “stakers” to secure the ETH network for annual profits by holding their coins in approved wallets". Would that mean that some ETH hodlers will get a kind of dividents or?
310  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: November 03, 2017, 11:52:12 AM
I want to buy s9 and start my mining farm. When i started to search for the machine, it didn't take long to find out that the machine is out of stock everywhere and you can never buy one unless you are willing to pay 3 or 4 times more of bitmains's official price. I even started to look into l3+ and dashminer, but they are not any better at the moment. This very frustrating.

For the US I guess you can get some form the forum members, I wouldn't trust any other store as there are many many scams.
In Europe I had a similar problem, missing several batches from bitmain website. However on regular intervals they seem to release new batches (but with horribly long dispatch times), so if you can wait - you wait Smiley

Are there more seasoned traders here to share experience?
It seems that before the btc hardfork in 2 weeks it will not stop climbing (literally like crazy, I even suspect 10k is a realistic limit now), while all other alts including eth dip. Also with eth fork and increased supply, its price steadily goes down. Which actually makes it a good investment time.

Has something similar happened before?

Is it realistic that btc will hit 10k pricetag before the fork in 2 weeks?
Everyone seems to buy now in order to get the free b2x....

CarrIOTA announcement

https://medium.com/deviota/carriota-announcement-86e9c35a1801

Meet CarrIOTA — your personal IOTA-driven bank

The term “carriota” has been coined some time ago at the IOTA’s slack. I used this term a few times to refer to 100 mIOTAs (100 million IOTAs).
🥕 = carriota = 100 mIOTAs
The name stuck as we have started to work on a new generation of a cryptocurrency manager. Beyond a simple “wallet”. A complete manager of entities, wallets and value flows between them. A “carrier” of IOTAs. Hence, “CarrIOTA”.
The reasons and requirements for creating CarrIOTA were several:.....

CarrIOTA can be used to manage your single wallet, a complete household or an entire business with thousands of users and IoT entities!

Congrats!!!!!

There is definitely a need for a decent wallet for IOTA.
Good to know there are multiple sources working on this.

And as the founders of the thing say: It depends what is meant with “launch”. We will be launching the software in several steps. I hope to have something showable before 2018.

So we will be able to test it soon enough Smiley
315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why ETHER is not moving any where? on: October 31, 2017, 10:19:53 AM
Bitcoin has so many forks recently that everyone sells alts to get the bitcoin and the free air dropped forked coins...
I doubt ETH will show any significant moves before mid Nov

Hey,

One month later, how is your daily trading experience going? Smiley
Any results?
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: October 27, 2017, 03:18:23 PM
ETH is currently the second most trusted and used crypto currency. Just think of all these ICOs that rely on ETH.

Extreme volatility is more likely for another altcoin where you can see repeating pumps and dumps in a matter of days. ETH is just steadily growing and I am optimistic this trend will continue. So the sooner we invest in it, the better in long term.
