Normally i would say Litecoin but I think Ripple has more potential now.

You could buy another one and have them both share the same key/wallets, or just travel with the one you have and if you lose it just buy another one and use your written backup to get back your coins.

Even the most stable altcoin isn't that stable, but if I had to pick it would be Litecoin, Ethereum, Monero and Dash.

All those are mostly copy and paste coins and coins abandoned by their dev ages ago.
