301  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Corporate mining, the downfall of BTC? on: October 23, 2014, 09:54:23 PM
OP is only looking from his point of view so he does not see anything else. In addition to the price trend currently, ofcourse we will get this kind of thread. Typical bitcoin noobs tho.

The OP got into bitcoin due to mining profit and only that. He then see bitcoin's transaction is mostly for buying miners. ....etc

Whats missing here is that noobs dont see the infrastructure being built. We will see how bitcoins can be useful where CC is completely not available. (tips, micropayment, smart contract, etc...)

The current down trend in price does not mean there is no demand for bitcoin. It simply mean bitcoin mining has gone industrial, and all the VC funded projects are not launched yet.

I've seen noobs like OP come and go. At $2, every noobs who only cares about mining profit left only later regret when bitcoin got alot more attention, merchant acceptance. At $70, noobs yelling ASIC will kill bitcoin because no one can afford mining, only to regret later that technology must to be evolved while bitcoin got more VC funding to build infrastructure. At $300,....well you will see the same trend ..... "bitcoin is doomed to fail.... because i cant profit from mining any more".

Yup, same old same old.
302  Other / Off-topic / Bought a new expensive car - wife wants to drive it on: October 23, 2014, 09:01:34 PM
Every car I've ever owned - I've let my wife drive. She's always put a ding or two in them. I recently bought a really expensive car and my wife wants to drive it. I really don't want to let her, so I told her that I'd have to think about it. She is pretending that she's not mad at me, but I know she is.

I've worked hard, saved a lot, and invested well to be able to comfortably afford a nice car. I take really good care of the car and consider it as a reward to myself.

If you were me, would you suck it up and graciously let the wife drive the car? or try and explain to the wife why I don't want her to drive it?

306  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN‘s Liquid Cooled Miner C1: It is not only cool, but it is cool on: October 22, 2014, 03:49:39 AM
when ordering the cooling kits, is the 'International Express' option optional?

My order for the cooling kit now says shipped..

International Express ---> means it's coming DHL.

There were no other options available that I saw at the time of order.

our default express is DHL,if you have other express(EMS or UPS) at a low price and want freight collect, you could email us.

Do you offer cheaper shipping by regular air mail? (like what most ebay chinese stores use? )

I only have problem with ridiculous brokerage fee + duty with DHL and UPS.

I understand about the shipping time, but i dont mind that.

Uhhh how did you measure your power consumption?

at 0.60-0.61 setting, i got ~760w from the stats page. I was told thats DC, so AC would be like 900w. Thats terrible isnt it?

I got a steady 700W in the stats page. What batch is your miner? 760W seems a bit too much for those settings. Are you sure you are having your max voltage set to 0.610?

Yes i'm positive on the setting. Mine is first batch .
I thought only SP30 has issues with first batch.

To be honest, after wasting lots of time today i find voltage setting is the utterly most useless. This is why i asked SP-T and got the same answer (loweing voltage.....)

You are lowering your max voltage too right? Because I don't see how it's useless. As I stated just a few posts ago I found out that optimal settings are min voltage 0.612 and max voltage 0.616 (or 0.618) and I get 1Th/s at 700W. You want better than that?

Edit: Also the 77c reading means <=77 degrees, it's not actual 77.

I decided to raise the voltage up to 0.62, hoping this will give the bad chips more headroom. At the same time i lower the Maximum power consumption (to somewhat the same with what the stats told me when my voltage was set at 0.6)

Ok now I get what are you talking about. I thought you are talking about the Basic Settings. My mistake. You shouldn't lower your maximum power consumption because it will be lower since you are lowering your voltage. And yes the dead chips are because of the low voltage, but personally I just ignore them as long as I am happy with the hashrate/power ratio.

To be honest, after wasting lots of time today i find voltage setting is the utterly most useless. This is why i asked SP-T and got the same answer (loweing voltage.....)

Why didnt i just set power consumption right from the start if what you propose is true.

I just applied the same setting to several SP10s and ....... got different results. Some still have dead chips. I think i will never find out the minimum voltage on these chips. Waste time and efficiency is still terrible.

PS. even the intake temp is 15c, the chips temp under ASIC stats still read 77c. Same when intake temp is 24c.
311  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: October 22, 2014, 12:34:21 AM
Update:

I think i fixed the issue with dead chips, however i still need SP Tech to confirm the the power consumption is actually accurate.

Common sense told me that the reason for chips to become dead is due to low voltage. Some chips dont have the same tolerance as others.

I decided to raise the voltage up to 0.62, hoping this will give the bad chips more headroom. At the same time i lower the Maximum power consumption (to somewhat the same with what the stats told me when my voltage was set at 0.6)

After 30mins, i check the ASIC stats and no dead chips!. Power consumption state at what i set.

Can SP confirm the setting of power consumption indeed work? and the reading is accurate? I dont have wattage reader at the moment (since i use 240v plug )

accurate power consumption at the wall should employ a kill-a-watt. the SP readings are only as accurate as the PSU provides, whcih likely has a +/-5% range.
If low temps are an issue, why not reduce fan speed to make the unit a bit hotter internally?

Which part of 240v plug dont you understand? Please dont ever reply to my post. Frankly i find all your posts to be nonsense. Especially when you even argue the Bitmain C1s might have different waterblock process.... all that BS.

313  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: October 21, 2014, 09:57:30 PM
Zig,

Here is what i found so far playing with the setting

1) Under low temperature (15c), low voltage(0.6) setting doesnt work too well. Some chips randomly become dead (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). Hashrate is fluctuating due to this.

2) I bring one of the miner into the office to diagnose (room temp is 24c), same voltage 0.6, all chips are working. Hashrate is actually stable and abit higher. However i think the power consumption is abit higher which is understandable due to higher hashrate.

The efficiency is still not at what i want. The default minimum start voltage is 0.56 based on the setting shows, does that mean you actually tested them at those voltage? I'm afraid these chips wont like such voltage since 0.6 has already been too low for it (cold)

zig,

I've been playing with the setting for efficency. Should i leave the "Maxium Power Consumption" alone and only adjust the voltage?

Thanks.

I don't think you can have them both. Am I wrong? I thought that you have basic settings (low, normal, turbo) and advanced settings. Once you hit advanced it will over-write the basic ones so once you modify the voltage it will follow that rule and it will ignore the "Maximum Power Consumption" one.

The power consumption setting is actually in the Advanced setting.

It was a separate setting a while ago (few first firmware versions)

That's what I was saying. You can't have them both!

Huh? You misunderstood what i said.

Under advanced setting, i can set both voltage and PSU power consumption. What do you mean i cant have them both?

Why would anyone want this useless product at this time? A year too late to the party.

this is a good item.  but not at 56 plus shipping with an included psu.

first off anyone  into btc coins should be running one of these at a solo pool such as

http://solo.ckpool.org/

or http://www.solopool.net

or http://bitsolo.net/

yeah you won't hit but for the right price it can be an endless lottery ticket.

30 bucks each use your own psu. power 50 watts  this is  36 kwatts a month   whats that at the worst 35 cents x 36 = 12.60 a month for a shot at a block.

easy to promote as a shot for a block.  and low cost 30 up front and 3 to 12 a month in power.

Do you know how to calculate risk/reward?

lol
318  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: October 20, 2014, 08:20:57 AM
* Also: you need to own it, be hashing with it, and have measured the power draw at the wall. No hearsay. I own two SP30s so I know from experience how they perform.

I've got a bunch of SP30.  They are pretty good.  Awesome even.  But, no matter.  They still won't ROI - ever.  They run really well and it is a damn good system.  However difficulty is high, BTC price is low.  The calculus changed and it just doesn't make sense.  I wonder when the .2 W/GHs gear is coming out?  The next gen stuff is going to be interesting.

The question I have is firmware upgrades.  My machines are running perfectly at 4.4T.  Should I upgrade?  What if this fucks things up?  I kind-of like the machines running at full speed without any interruptions.  I don't know if it is such a good idea to upgrade.  Zvi?

Well, I believe that with 99% probability that should not create any problems, but if they all give 4.4, I see no reason to upgrade.

Can you pls do your magic and add "most efficient" features to the firmware? Its essential for SP10 so it can mine abit longer.

Something that can make clock tuning abit faster.

It is there: just set the "start-voltage" to something small and "top voltage" to "start-voltage + 5mv".

My question is what is considered "small" ? I know we can underclock the miner if thats what you're preferring to.

Basically, i'm wishing for an ability to set W/GHs target and the miner can auto adjust to reach that. I'm sure there would be limitation such as minimum voltage...etc.

Or you can propose a list of settings for several W/GHs target ... ?

EDIT:
Code:
AC2DC power=1256[1260], temp=0, leading zeroes=41

Is this reading accurate? I take that says 1256 W from AC (the wall)?
319  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitmain - Prices are Ridiculous on: October 20, 2014, 08:19:18 AM
I too enjoyed the free shipping, but they still have the best price per GH.

Agree, the free shipping was really good until they change it to pay shipping. Now everything seems to be over priced...

there is no such thing as free, dumbasses. Its calculated in.

Not a surprise since idiots are still looking into buying.
