3001  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets - Ledger vs Trezor, Other recommendations? on: January 14, 2023, 10:01:35 AM
...neither can we add features.
Ledger has a developers portal where you can build your own apps, add support for them, create your own tokens, and connect them with Ledger. You probably can't add features or omit something from the coin apps that are already supported, but if you know what you are doing, you could build your own.
3002  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Stax (Ledger's latest hardware wallet) on: January 14, 2023, 09:43:45 AM
Adam Venture also mentioned something that I thought about the first time I read about the features of the Ledger Stax. I am talking about the screen that can always stay on to display your NFT collection and the likes. Who keeps their hardware wallets out in the open to enjoy their NFTs? Is this HW supposed to be by your side when you are working so you can occasionally glance at your NFTs and be happy about having them? When you go out for dinner, are you going to put it on the table next to your plate to enjoy your digital monkey and banana collections? I also don't see a future where people go out clubbing with their Stax's in one hand and a drink in the other. Maybe Ledger thinks that will happen.
3003  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Odd behaviour in Exodus Wallet on: January 14, 2023, 09:31:41 AM
It's why I like wallets like electrum, which let you add some personal notes like the name of the address you are sending funds to in the "Description field" This will help easily identify the fake transactions and avoid one from copying the phishing addresses from the wallet transaction history
There is an even better way. Don't copy anything from your transaction history when you are sending and receiving crypto. Congratulations! You have just upgraded your security. Wink

Also, the so-called blockchains are really fucked up and half-baked. How they have worked on the solution since the bug was discovered is still beyond my understanding.
The wallet or blockchain explorer could have a button to hide all 0-value transactions. That would get rid of this scam from popping up in front of your eyes. Blockchain explorers already tag these schemes as scams and malicious attempts. At least on Tron they do.
3004  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: what is the best crypto wallet for mobile? on: January 14, 2023, 09:22:46 AM
...so coinomi seems okay too. Just don't forget to use it with extreme cautions.
What kind of recommendation is that? It's OK to use it, however, be very careful because it's extremely dangerous. That's another way of saying it. It's OK to walk in a minefield, but be careful not to step on a mine. Otherwise it's all good.

Apart from that, as far as I know Trustwallet is currently not good to use due to the issues it has faced recently.
I don't follow altcoin trends, so I am not sure what kind of issues you are referring to. If it's about the OP and his friends having their wallets hacked, it's worth considering that they might not know how to keep their crypto safe. Getting hacked, phished, or malware-infected is usually due to user mistakes and not because of the wallets that were used.
3005  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus wallet, Latest PC version 23.1.12. Bug or issue with my device? on: January 14, 2023, 09:09:25 AM
According to the official site, the newest version is 23.1.2, so it can't be 23.1.12 as you claimed.
When was the last time you tried the QR feature and did it work properly? Downgrade to the version prior to the newest one (22.12.19) and see if the QR feature works as it should. It it does, there are clearly some issues with the newest version. Alternatively, speak with their support. It seems like they are offering live chat on their website.

There is no reason to be worried about the address poisoning scam. It doesn't affect you one bit if you send and receive coins the normal way. The normal way isn't coping addresses from transaction histories or blockchain explorers. I don't use Exodus, but it surely has a send/receive window or tab where the wallet will display your receiving addresses. That's the place where you should copy them from. If you are sending coins to someone else, take the address they sent you in whatever method you use to communicate.
3006  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 14, 2023, 08:39:59 AM
I will try with microUSB - USB-C adapter, but Trezor doesn't have mobile app yet, and I am not sure Trezor firmware can be updated using mobile devices.
Can you please check and confirm this when you can?
There isn't much information to be found about this, but apparently it should work on Android phones without using the desktop version. Read Can't update firmware on Android? where the user doesn't have a desktop device and was stuck updating the firmware with his phone. In the end he confirmed that it worked.

I will have to ask someone to make columns and table for me later, but only after I collect enough information.
You can surely do this yourself, it isn't that hard. Just find a style you like from some other thread where there are tables. Quote it, copy the code, and make the changes you want to suit your needs and preferences.
3007  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: List of Crypto gambling/casino sites on: January 14, 2023, 08:15:09 AM
This is the list https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5333602.msg56883071#msg56883071 that prepared by @Pmalek is what I’m using as reference to check the list of active crypto casino since the OP is always updating it regarding the changes on the fees personally by contacting or visiting the website.
It's worth mentioning that many new casinos are missing from my collection because I don't add them for the first couple of months after their introduction on this forum. I feel like it's necessary they establish some reputation first and create a history of paying players. My list also doesn't contain scam casinos that have received negative feedback from DT members for valid reasons. I have also removed some names from there because they scammed players on this forum irrespective of DT ratings.

If OP is looking for newer gambling platforms that have gone live in the last 6-12 months, he won't find many of those in my thread because I haven't added new names to it for a long time.
3008  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Will Hardware Wallet Manufacturers Leak Customer’s Email Data? on: January 14, 2023, 08:06:14 AM
Anyway, do you have any news about your experiment? You haven't updated this thread in a while.
I mentioned in the OP I would post updates after 1, 3, and 6 months. The 1-month update was posted on 16 December 2022. So, we are now about 2 months into the testing. Everything is calm and nothing out of the ordinary is happening thus far. I will perform another check today or tomorrow in search of spam and unwanted content.
3009  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Show off your hardware wallet on: January 14, 2023, 07:58:03 AM
I want to show off the hardware wallet I currently have.
<Snip>
Thanks for chipping in.

This is the first SafePal device that will find its way into the table. It's quite a big product compared with the Nano S or the Trezor One. I feel like it could have been equipped with a larger screen. It kind of reminds me of a Sony digital camera I have with the buttons layout.

Any comparisons between the three products?
Does one have something you absolutely love/hate that the others are missing?
Do you feel more comfortable using one compared to the others?
What is your overall rating of the software and hardware of the wallets you own?
3010  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Address poisoning scams on: January 14, 2023, 07:46:32 AM
There's been a lot of talk about it lately and a couple of my friends received those type of transactions as well but I haven't so far, maybe because I very rarely touch altcoins so I am not the good target (I guess they look for very active addresses).
The scammers surely have some sort of list of addresses that are actively monitored. When such an address makes a transaction, the address poisoning scam follows soon after. Sometimes just a few seconds after the genuine transaction. It must be an automated service.

At first this tactic looks incredibly far fetched and not very likely to work as who would copy his own address from transaction history (that never even crossed my mind) but then again when I thought of all the ways people lose money I wouldn't be surprised if some fall for this, no matter how stupid it may seem.
A few weeks after this new scheme became known, I read a report that mentioned that $1.5 million had already been scammed that way. It's even more now. Considering that other scams bring in hundreds of millions sometimes, it doesn't sound like a lot. Still, it proves that people are falling for it. It's enough for the scammers to continue looking for new or old victims.
3011  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammed by Trustdice (Account banned and money confiscated) on: January 14, 2023, 07:37:54 AM
Please kindly understand that as per our Terms & Conditions, we are under no obligation to provide excessive details to a user who's been banned for his or her violation of the T&C.
It's great to know that your operation is so transparent. A player can be banned without anyone knowing why including the player. If the player asks what they did to deserve the ban, you will send 3-4 terms and conditions violations their way and have them pick one out, or what? The reasons and rule violations you mentioned have nothing in common.

So according to the information provided here, the player may or may not have been banned for one or all of the above things:

- having insider info/receiving information from someone close to the team/league/sports.
- using multiple accounts.
- doing any activities that are against the interests of the casino (could be anything in the world).

Is this player a multi-account abuser who is also involved in late betting and has professional insider knowledge about certain sports or what is going on? Why mention insider betting if it's not directly related to this case?

So let me expand on what I already have said (The details are not mentioned to avoid jeopardizing our anti-abuse detection system) :
We found OP's account had been acting in a manner that's impossible for an ordinary human player and its various signals shall be considered abnormalities for an ordinary human player. And all of such data have been well documented.
Ordinary human player? That would then make him an unordinary human player. If he is unordinary, we are going back to the professional/insider betting patterns. Or maybe you are suspecting bot-like behavior.

You made yourself look ignorant with your claims in the other case concerning Laki where you attempted to provide proof of late bets and failed. And such an incompetent team has now investigated another case and found "abnormalities". Do I need to remind you that the "abnormalities" you found in Laki's scam accusation thread were laughable and proved your ignorance? That might be the reason why you have decided against going into details this time around because it could show that you have nothing.

@Poika5
Why are you banned from betting on Esports? Why would an honest gambler get banned from betting on an entire sport?
One more thing. When CasinoGuru rejected your complaint, they emailed you and suggested several websites that deal with sports betting-related issues. If you still think you are being wronged here, have you or do you have plans to contact some of those sites?

I just checked the AskGamblers complaint. It's a neutral 3rd-party that hasn't given me a feeling of being biased. Their decision goes against you and this case seems pretty much closed after that. Do you have anything else to add or have you taken any other steps in the meantime?

If there is nothing else, my negative review will be changed to neutral for this casino and its forum representative, also informing the community that the casino has decided against sharing evidence or discussing scam accusations on Bitcointalk.
3012  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 13, 2023, 01:21:29 PM
And, make sure you have good backups of you seed. We have been touting for years that phones are not secure and you should not have large amounts of funds on them.
I know people, myself included, that have a vague idea of where the seed phrase for their phone wallet is, but it's no way as secure as their main one 'since it's only a little money'  IF you get more confident in the security of your phone wallet since you are using a HW wallet, don't fall into that trap of adding more funds and not having the recovery handy.....
The same rules apply whether you set up your hardware wallet on a phone or a PC. There should be multiple copies of the recovery phrase, but never in a digital form. If the hardware wallet has a secure element, the sensitive data won't leak onto the phone or be obtainable in case the phone is malware-infected in the same way seeds and PINs aren't leaking on computers.

In essence, you aren't keeping the coins on the phone just like they aren't on the computer. And the private keys stay safe on the hardware wallet's chip.
3013  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Stax (Ledger's latest hardware wallet) on: January 13, 2023, 10:08:03 AM
It's not the sound of security. It's the sound of bullshit and a marketing campaign. Not that I am interested in the device, but I will check out the video review just to see what he thinks of it.

And speaking of magnets, I was wondering if they could damage some of the internal components in the long run [I'm getting mixed results/answers from Google/Youtube and AFAIK, they (Ledger) haven't mentioned what kind of magnets are being used or how strong they are]?
It has to be a really strong magnet for it to cause any damage to the electronics inside the device. That's surely not the case here. I have a shaker that I sometimes take to the gym. It's equipped with two magnets so you can stick it to metal objects like the machines you train on. The other side of the shaker has a magnet that can hold your phone if you want. I have used it a few times and there were no problems at all.
3014  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware Wallets that work with Smartphones? on: January 13, 2023, 09:47:00 AM
WORK IN PROGRESS!
Two suggestions:

1. After you have gathered all the necessary information, you might want to consider creating a table to make it look better.
2. I suggest making a new column and mentioning if the devices can be connected to Android and iPhone, or just one of the models. I think Ledger only works with Android phones and not with iPhones. There are surely similar examples with other manufacturers as well.
3015  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: what is the best crypto wallet for mobile? on: January 13, 2023, 09:33:25 AM
I love to use coinomi because I have access to my private keys which is the main deal breaker and supports several other crypto coins...
Both Coinomi and Trust Wallet are non-custodial clients, so you will have access to your seed and/or private keys with either one of them. There is no difference between them on that front. Both are closed-source, so you aren't getting any benefit from one over the other there either. What makes them different is coin support. One wallet might support an asset that the other one doesn't. I am not sure how either one of those work in terms of fees, and do you have the freedom to select how much you want to spend on transaction fees or not.
3016  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Sending wallet still says "pending" even after the receiving wallet shows receip on: January 13, 2023, 09:19:28 AM
He sent it from Jaxx to Exodus, pending on Jaxx but already confirmed on Exodus. Maybe Exodus works like Electrum in a way that unconfirmed transactions appear on balance even if the transaction if not yet confirmed.
To expand on what OmegaStarScream said, this is how it works on Ledger:

- When you send/receive bitcoin, the status you see in the client is pending and unconfirmed.
- When the transaction gets it's first confirmation, Ledger doesn't change the status and still keeps it unconfirmed but mentioning it has 1 confirmation.
- After the 2nd confirmation the status changes to confirmed.

This is the default setting, but it can be changed. You can bring it down to 1 confirmation. In that case, as soon as your transaction gets into the first block, Ledger Live will mark the transaction as confirmed. Or you can adjust it upwards to consider everything below 6 number of confirmations, for example, as unconfirmed.

From what I have seen on Trezor and Trezor Suite, the 1st confirmation immediately changes the transaction's status to confirmed.
So it depends on the software you use. Maybe Ledgers' 2 confirmation default is because of the possibility of your transaction landing in a stale block. So, if you see 1 confirmation, you might get the wrong impression that it's already confirmed while it might in fact change to unconfirmed soon after.
3017  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live and USDC (TRC20) on: January 13, 2023, 08:38:15 AM
my understanding is that the blockchain does not block it, it is tether that blocks it.   so it does not matter which blockchain it is on.  correct?
The issuer of USDT can block the address where the tokens are being held. It doesn't matter if it's Tron or Ethereum. It's the same thing with USDC. It can also be frozen in an address irrespective of the blockchain. Tokens on the omni layer could be the only exception to this rule. Still, I have never looked into it to know for sure. dkbit98 mentioned Liquid chain. @dkbit98 isn't that centralized as well, meaning there is a powerful party (issuer) that makes all the rules?

If you are worried about having your tokens frozen, don't take part in crime and illegal activities. I have never heard of a poor innocent bastard somewhere who got his stablecoins blocked by the issuer for no reason. There might still be such cases, and if anyone knows about them, post a link here. It's usually stolen or hacked money and significant sums. Still, having the power to do it is a worrying thought.

The decentralized stablecoin DAI is one that can't be frozen by it's issuers. So, consider using that if possible.
3018  Other / Archival / Re: WasabiWallet.io | Open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin Wallet for desktop on: January 13, 2023, 08:09:03 AM
But Bitcoin.. well, is Bitcoin. Bitcoin is not Monero. What kind of exchange are you if you don't offer Bitcoin?
A heavily regulated one that cares little about me and you. One that plays ball and listens to Uncle Sam or whoever is in charge in that particular territory.

Bitcoin isn't Litecoin, though.
No it isn't, but it's still a coin that makes you money through trading fees. You still earn when your customers withdraw it. It's not the best earner, but it's up there near the top 10. Instead of doing nothing, you (the exchange) ban it because someone told you to or suggested it would be in your best interest maybe.
3019  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Store your seed phrase offline on: January 13, 2023, 07:58:45 AM
...I already move from cloud to store my key and password offline. I wrote down all the passwords, passphrases and private keys in a book and I prepared a backup book that was placed separately. for the last 4 years I have not experienced any problems anymore. As for the .dat files, I save them on a USB.
Hmm, private keys and .dat files. I assume you are talking about Bitcoin Core's wallet.dat files or are you using some other software? It must be difficult to make physical backups of every single private key that corresponds to a new address you funded.

I just save everything in a file that I keep on the USB.
That's all? One digital copy on a single piece of hardware. Have you ever thought about what you are going to do if it malfunctions, you misplace it, or the kids you mentioned break it?
3020  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for a software or script that highlights a list of words. on: January 13, 2023, 07:44:05 AM
Ask ChatGPT to write some JS that can search the browser DOM for some text. Wink
I have to spend some more time playing around with this AI because the possibilities are endless. Did a quick test and asked it to create me a script. It did so in Python with instructions on how to insert the words and phrases I need. I asked it to create something else. The second thing I got was a Microsoft Word macro code. No idea if the code works or not. I didn't test it because the method with Notepad++ I mentioned above works just fine and I am happy with it.

One indirect way to solve this problem in microsoft office word, would be to form an exclusion dictionary with the words that you have to find and highlight.
No, that's not what I was looking for. Although it would put emphasize on the words and phrases I want to find, I don't want them to be marked as incorrectly spelled all the time and in situations where I am not working or actively searching for those terms.
