3002  Economy / Gambling / Re: So You Want to Invest in a HYIP/Ponzi Program? on: March 18, 2014, 01:15:25 AM
Comprehensive post detailing why ponzis are indeed scummy. At this point if you are greedy/dumb enough to lose your money in a ponzi, I won't even feel bad.

3004  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to greatly and effectively reduce scams on: March 17, 2014, 03:14:39 PM
When hero/vip/senior members or whatever scam with ease, I don't really think a reputation system will help.

3008  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is taking illegal ads from a ponzi scheme - MakeBtc.org on: March 13, 2014, 08:20:52 AM
Easiest solution yes, not the best though. Best (and more likely to be implemented) solution is a new board for HYIP. HYIP have always been lumped in with gambling, and they should be separated. Ponzis would fit better there as well. I made another post about it here. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=510636.msg5657950#msg5657950

I had not seen that post yet. That would indeed be the ideal solution! Thank you

You can keep the bitcents in my account.

The only bitcoin sportsbook I found worth using. Very disappointing to see you go. Back to fiat sportsbooks for me.
3010  Economy / Gambling / Re: Provably fair vs. Live Dealers on: March 13, 2014, 03:36:58 AM
Not really sure if I'm understanding the questions entirely although I do like the new topic.

Are you asking if casinos will release the hashes from their algorithm so that customers can compare to see if they are being swindled?

Live dealers either hand deal or use auto-shuffler. Are you asking if these are truly random shuffles? Or if they would cheat for the house?
3011  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Fucking Ponzi's and the idiots that buy into them on: March 13, 2014, 03:27:17 AM
I think it's interesting that most people hanging around here are so liberal when it comes to weapon and drug trade but get all christy when it's about Ponzi schemes, because they're soooo illegal. I'm not defending ponzis, but to be honest if you can't handle it, turn off your computer, and you won't be exposed to it, I promise.

I think the problem is the dilution of the gambling section with spam.

To have the place spammed, is annoying for hard working developers trying to bring provably-fair games to the community.

Just stick them in their own gambling child section called "ponzis".

This is it. When I'm looking at 40 threads on the front page and 30 of them are ponzi related. It gets tiring. The situation seems to have improved some though.
3012  Other / Meta / Re: so ponzis will be gone soon hopefully on: March 13, 2014, 03:25:31 AM
The section seems a little bit more cleaned up although there are still a good bit of ponzi threads.

Hopefully users will stop participating in them altogether so that they can die out.
3013  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is taking illegal ads from a ponzi scheme - MakeBtc.org on: March 13, 2014, 02:33:34 AM
Doesn't make sense for the Admin (Theymos) or the staff to defend Ponzi scams to this extent unless they are making a profit of it. Blatant advertising and condoning of this behavior is detrimental to the site and bitcoin as a whole. Lost a lot of respect for the staff here.

When it takes ordinary users such as Tomatocage to combat scammers, there is a serious issue. The extent of moderation is misplaced posts and spamming. Not very difficult job but keep it up.
Where do you see anybody in this thread defending ponzi schemes whatsoever?
So far I've only seen people bashing on it, and people defending the owner's right to advertise whatever he wants.

Big difference.

There is a running defense by the staff that Ponzi constitutes gambling but the logic behind that defense is gambling = inherent risk for being involved in the activity. This can be applied to ANYTHING. They are taking the definition of gambling too literally. Maybe it needs to be reworded to "Traditional Gambling". The easiest solution is to simply move all Ponzi related threads to "Games and Rounds".

3014  Other / Meta / Re: Make a sub for Ponzi's in gambling on: March 12, 2014, 09:50:45 PM
Push them into "Games and Rounds" Easy solution.
3015  Other / Meta / Re: for gods sake, we need more security on: March 12, 2014, 09:48:39 PM
The last thing on the mind of the forum operator is security for its users. The end message by the staff here is WE DON'T CARE. If you lose your account or bitcoin, it's your own stupid fault.

Besides being completely illegal in some countries and extremely deceptive, ponzis have overtaken the gambling section.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494662.80

I posted a topic in Meta about this to hopefully create a sub-board for these types of pyramid scams.

Maybe if enough people post in the thread, it will create pressure to create another board.
