3021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you use bitcoin? on: November 08, 2020, 01:21:13 PM
In my country, there are only a few coffee shops which accept direct payment in Bitcoin. The problem is that I am not a frequent visitor of coffee shops. What I normally do is to get fiat cash in exchange for Bitcoins, using Localbitcoins. Sometimes I get gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks.etc) and use them for shopping. Right now, I don't want to complain much. Although the shops are not accepting direct payments, I am able to make payment using gift cards.

Earlier there was the option of getting prepaid debit cards, that can be loaded with Bitcoin. But with increased regulations, now it is impossible to get such cards.
3022  Other / Archival / Re: Hong Kong bans retail trading of digital currencies on: November 08, 2020, 01:11:24 PM
Well.. I was expecting this. With every passing day, Hong Kong is losing its administrative and financial freedom and the People's Republic of China is now controlling most of the aspects there. Very soon the special privileges that are granted to Hong Kong (as per the treaty between the United Kingdom and China) will be cancelled and Hong Kong will just become another municipality within mainland China.
3023  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-10-30] Bitcoin transaction fees jump by 570% over 12 days on: November 08, 2020, 01:01:08 PM
It is insane now and blowing up too much will hamper a lot of users unable to transfer because at times it is not worth spending as amount will be smaller. Instead converting to some other coin and then sending if necessary, make sense as it would not be like bitcoin transaction fees of those other coins

The miners have blocked any attempt to raise the block size, giving the silliest of the excuses. I have been associated with cryptocurrencies for more than 8 years now, and I saw the damage caused as a result of the sky-high transaction fees in December 2017 before my own eyes. Back then, users were paying up to $50 as fee for a single transaction.
3024  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US Presidential Election 2020 and its impact on gambling on: November 08, 2020, 12:51:28 PM
I would say that this election was very significant for the gamblers. It once again proved that when it comes to predicting the outcome of the elections, gamblers are more accurate when compared to the opinion polls. Gambling sites have a high probability of win for Trump, and it was justified by the close results. On the other hand, opinion polls were predicting blowout for Biden and they have lost their credibility.
3025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reminder: prepare your wallet before the next bull run on: November 08, 2020, 12:41:08 PM
Very educative post by the OP. I would also point to some of the basic security precautions that needs to be taken. The number of wallet hacking attempts tend to be proportional to the price of Bitcoin. Whenever the prices go up, we have a spike in coin-stealing attempts. So enable 2FA and email authentication if you haven't done so far. Also, it is extremely important to take the backup and keep them in secure locations. If you are storing your coins in a hardware wallet, then you need to take multiple backups. Because if you forget your password, and in case you don't have a backup, then the coins are gone.
3026  Economy / Economics / Re: How long will it take banks to phase out physical cash completely? on: November 08, 2020, 12:31:05 PM
Cashless is an easy way to control people

If you do something wrong, or someone with authority thinks you do, they can easily turn your life into a nightmare by simply cutting you off of your money with a single press of a button. This is not possible with cash, and that's why there is such a mighty push from governments toward phasing out ready money. I'm not even saying about cases where no malicious intent is involved as cash is the only way to go if electronic payment channels get blocked (read, when you can no longer pay with your card or phone)

Completely agree with this. Cashless society is the dream of every authoritarian socialist, so that he can enslave the citizens in a never ending cycle of financial slavery. But I don't think that the governments are going to achieve it anytime soon. China was one of the first countries to try this idea. Now they are asking the shops to make sure that physical cash is also accepted as payment. Socialist paradise of Sweden tried this shitty idea two decades back. Till now, they are unable to make significant inroads, as majority of the small-sized transactions are done with physical cash.
3027  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 08, 2020, 12:21:06 PM
If i am paying money to bet on this match i would place that on SRH, when there is pressure Delhi usually crumbles but they have a good team and if everyone perform then they can win the match. For SRH their main strength is Warner on the top, Kane Williamson in the middle order and Jason Holder as a bowler changed their fortunes and Rashid Khan can hold his end which creates more pressure to the opponents to take on the rest of the bowlers .

Well.. SRH seems to be the overwhelming favorites here, given the pathetic state of Delhi Capitals. But once again, this is T20 format and nothing is predictable. I am also betting for SRH, but at this point I can't discount DC. They have some of the best T20 pace bowlers in Rabada and Nortje. If they are in form, then the opponents will be destroyed in no time.
3028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: American election is nothing to do with BTC on: November 08, 2020, 12:11:06 PM
After the news of Biden's victory in the U.S. elections, Bitcoin became cheaper by more than 1K dollars... It may be a coincidence, but stock markets also had a reaction to this result....
I hope that for Bitcoin it was a correction...

It may be because of the uncertainty. Biden might have won the elections and it looks as if Democrats will have a comfortable majority at the House. But the senate majority is likely to remain with the Republicans. This can create problems for Biden, once he is sworn in. In case the senate doesn't allow Biden to function properly, then we can have an impasse, which may affect the economy in a negative way.

Even in case Republicans somehow manage to win the two remaining seats in Georgia (Perdue and Loeffler), their majority will be reduced to 52-48. But then there are at least two "Republican" senators who vote with Democrats most of the time - Murkowski and Collins. So even in the best case scenario for Republicans, the actual balance in the senate is going to be 50-50.

Democrats effectively gained 2 seats (1 proper Senate seat + VP tiebreaker) but I would expect the GA runoffs to be fierce. Now that a state-wide Georgia election has been shown to be winnable for Democrats they will probably gamble a $100 million on it.

Money can't make too much difference, as seen from the senate elections in Kentucky, South Carolina and Iowa. The Democrats poured in more than $100 million to each of these races, hoping to flip them. But in the end, the GOP incumbents won by a very comfortable margin. The huge influx of money actually provoked a backlash from the natives of these states, as there were reports that a lot of people voiced concern about the attempts being made by the liberals in California and New York to influence the elections in smaller states.
3030  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 07, 2020, 03:25:45 AM
Anyone expect Delhi Capitals to beat Sunrisers in the second eliminators? With SRH in such terrific form, it will be a mistake to bet against them (they have won 5 out of their last 6 matches). DC looks hopeless as of now. Their bowlers are clueless, despite Rabada and Nortje performing in such a terrific manner during the initial matches. And the less talked about the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, that better.
3031  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Elections 2020 - very self such moderated on: November 07, 2020, 03:15:24 AM
Georgia has to get a recount because of the 9k military ballots that are presumably going to be sent in tomorrow. But the recounts don't do anything. Florida's recount bumped Bush by a couple hundred votes so there's no way the state will flip if Biden gets a sizeable lead.

PA is all but gone for Trump which would end this shit show. NC is not going to be decided until Nov. 12th so even if Trump outperforms, we still don't know the winner until the 12th.

Senate is at a 48 48 split.

Another close race is the Georgia Senate race.

David Perdue (R) is at 49.9% and needs a majority in order to avoid a run off which he couldn't get, so we have two Georgia run offs which would decide the senate majority. The other race is Kelly Loeffler (R) v. Warnock. Apparently Loeffler is worth 500 million dollars and lives in a 10 million dollar home so this person is probably some self serving narcissist running for the senate for the prestige. Apparently that was the best republican Georgia could put up.

Thom Tillis (R) SHOULD* win NC, so Republicans are at 49 seats. Alaska will ofc elect their Republican senator, so R's are at 50.

The picture of Kamala Harris walking down the chamber smiling waving her hands around as she tie breaks every piece of legislation is not a pretty sight...Republicans will dump all they have into the race hoping to get at least one.

Even in case Republicans somehow manage to win the two remaining seats in Georgia (Perdue and Loeffler), their majority will be reduced to 52-48. But then there are at least two "Republican" senators who vote with Democrats most of the time - Murkowski and Collins. I am getting confused. In case the fight about the election outcome ends up in the supreme court, will Biden be able to sworn in as the president on January 2021? There are going to be tons of lawsuits. Republican observers were kicked out of the counting center in Michigan, access was denied to Republican observers in Pennsylvania, dead people voting in Nevada and so on..
3033  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 06, 2020, 03:55:10 AM
Now ICC need to bring some better and solid rules for better future of cricket if any team is not giving good result then send back to Associated status and bring up team from Associated status to Full Member status as this will give some good competition to all and equal chance for giving 100% right now Zimbabwe surely deserve to go down.

ICC is a joke, when compared to other sports bodies such as FIFA and FIH. They don't have any power and they have hardly any interest in spreading the game beyond the traditional base. They can't even conduct the election for the post of chairman, and it has been vacant for the last few months. In short, no one cares about the ICC and the power lies within individual boards such as the BCCI, CA and ECB.
3034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 06, 2020, 03:43:26 AM
I think the momentum is with Sunrisers Hyderabad for today's match. Because they have won 4 out of their last five matches, while Royal Challengers Bangalore has lost all four of their last matches. All of the SRH batsmen are in form, including David Warner, Wriddhiman Saha, Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson. Their bowlers also looks to be in good shape - Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Natarajan.etc.
3035  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US 2020 Elections data, polls and bets on: November 06, 2020, 03:33:21 AM
Those who gambled in favor of Biden may not get any of their money immediately. Until the results are certified, the gambling sites are not going to process the rewards. It may take a month or longer than that to confirm Biden's victory, given the huge number of legal challenges initiated by Trump. However, trends indicate that Biden may win PA by a comfortable margin and probably GA as well. Media may call this election for Biden today.
3036  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An Indian boy committed suicide after losing money by Betting in IPL on: November 06, 2020, 03:22:19 AM
No sympathy here. Obviously you should gamble only with the amount which you could afford to lose. In this case, the boy spent all his savings hoping to make a quick buck or two and that didn't worked out. Actually this shows the ineffectiveness of the regulations. Gambling is actually banned in India. But this ban has actually pushed the gambling sector underground, away from the eyes of the authorities.
3037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: American election is nothing to do with BTC on: November 05, 2020, 05:47:01 AM
Well.. as of now it looks as if Biden will be the president (and may be replaced by Kamala within the next 6-7 months). One of my concerns is that he may raise the taxes. I am particularly concerned with his plans to raise the capital gains tax. This is going to be a devastating blow to those who invested in cryptocurrency. Fortunately it looks as if GOP will retain the senate majority. So raising the taxes may not be that easy for Biden.
3038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin reach $20k fee will be huge? on: November 05, 2020, 05:35:34 AM
Ideally, fee should be independent of the exchange rate. But from what we have seen, the transaction fee rise whenever we have an increase in the exchange rates. There are two reasons for this. The first one is that the transaction fee is denominated in Sat/Byte. So when the price shoots up, the value in fiat also goes up (even if the rate in Sat/Byte remains the same). Another reason is that when the exchange rates go up, we witness an increase in the number of transactions. This pushes up the fee.
3039  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 05, 2020, 05:25:39 AM
SRH's next game is against RCB. SRH is back on the truck very well. I would expect a win from SRH. Although RCB is a very good team. But they have not been able to perform as expected in a few matches. They have lost 4 matches is a row. I would definitely like to see a competitive game in the playoff.

The momentum is with Sunrisers Hyderabad and their batting looks really strong with the inclusion of Wriddhiman Saha. And fortunately for them, the absence of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar hasn't weakened their bowling. Rashid Khan is almost unplayable at times, and Sandeep Sharma, Natarajan and Jason Holder have given him a lot of support. So it's going to be tough for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
3040  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US 2020 Elections data, polls and bets on: November 05, 2020, 05:15:43 AM
The result is very close. The Democrats have the coronavirus and the riots to thank for the defeat of Trump. It would be a landslide for Trump if none of the craziness of 2020 have ever occured.

Who is the source of the coronavirus? Biden bettors should thank also that hehehe.

Also, congratulations to Kamala Harris for becoming the first American lady president. Biden will be declared unfit in 2 years.

Biden (if he wins) will be extremely thankful to the media. Without them, he could have never won states such as Wisconsin. If you remember, a fake poll from NBC had Biden leading by 17 points two days before the election day. Many of the Republican voters thought that Trump was going to lose by a huge margin and they abstained from voting. The same happened in other states such as Michigan and Nevada as well.
