3041  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN affect in WWIII (WORLD WAR 3) on: August 15, 2017, 02:53:11 PM
I believe a world war would not make the price move up or down, but would probably affect the volatility. People will be more focused on current events instead of investments. It also may delay the surge in bitcoin. This is all speculation of course.

If bitcoin is seen as a "safe haven" currency like the swiss franc or gold, then it will move it up.

I'd be very surprised if South Koreans were not buying some bitcoin right now, "just in case". It would mean that their savings would not be wiped out in the event of a war.
3042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Whats happening with DigiByte coin..? on: August 15, 2017, 02:29:47 PM
It got pumped like crazy when they enabled segwit, and then people took profits.

This stuff always happens with alts - pump on some seemingly important news, and dump when people realize no-one is using the coin.
3043  Economy / Speculation / Re: Peak of Bitcoin price on: August 15, 2017, 02:12:52 PM
My prediction was @ around $4000 but it just kept going up lol

Looks like around $4300 was the peak for this particular cycle.

Long term, we have a ways to go. We're just at the start of the mania phase of bitcoin.
3044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Withdrawal problems Poloniex on: August 15, 2017, 01:43:18 PM
With delisted coins, they no longer maintain the wallets - so they probably haven't synced it since 2015.

I doubt they're going to go through the hassle of reviving the wallet just for you either.
3045  Economy / Speculation / Re: Remember $4,300 this is one of your last chance to get cheap coin on: August 15, 2017, 01:19:11 PM
Bitcoin is currently at $4080... Hope people didn't buy at the top.

Remember that when there is a very rapid rise, there is ALWAYS a pullback as people take profits.
3046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin "cash" - price speculation on: August 15, 2017, 01:08:14 PM
This. Given that there are 16 million coins out there, the price has remained remarkably steady. So steady you could use it as an actual currency because there are no wild swings from day to day.

i'd say there's far less supply and always will be. many people won't bother claiming them, others will be unaware. lots have already gone into whale hands and more will follow.

In which case it's a far more deflationary coin than BTC?
3047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin "cash" - price speculation on: August 15, 2017, 12:52:23 PM
I'm pretty sure that whales are quietly accumulating at this BCH price level and will continue. Then one day, out of nowhere, they will likely pump the crap out of BCH.

Why? Completely for the lulz.

This. Given that there are 16 million coins out there, the price has remained remarkably steady. So steady you could use it as an actual currency because there are no wild swings from day to day.
3048  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Any books you can recommend me about trading practices? on: August 14, 2017, 05:36:56 PM
The following site will give you the basics of technical analysis.

http://www.investopedia.com/university/technical/

Make sure you become familiar with teh charts because lots of bitcoin traders use them. Also be aware that because crypto is unregulated, lots of things go on that don't happen in regulated markets - and for that reason TA dosn't always work, it's just a guide as to what other traders are thinking.
3049  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin the new gold on: August 14, 2017, 05:22:05 PM
Bitcoin is now nearly triple the price of gold:

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/09/bitcoin-is-almost-triple-the-price-of-gold--heres-what-traders-think-you-should-buy.html

At some point it is going to be considered a "safe haven" currency, which people buy when there is talk of war etc.
3050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Cash - hold or dump? on: August 14, 2017, 05:03:22 PM
Given that there are about 16 million coins out there, I'm actually surprised how few have been dumped on the exchanges. Looks like most people are holding (and perhaps there are some people who can't be bothered to retreive their coins).
3051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: So it looks like we have to wait till Nov Segwit 2x FUD for Alts to recover? on: August 14, 2017, 04:59:02 PM
The alts had an almighty pump around April and May, and won't recover for months.

Take a look at the doge chart for example:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dogecoin/

There is a pump around every nine months. It's similar for other alts. They won't pump back up until some whale has managed to accumulate a bunch at low prices. So we're looking at the end of the year for the next pump.
3052  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar Lumen airdrop in Polo/Kraken on: August 14, 2017, 03:59:39 PM
As far as I can tell, the only people who have distributed Lumens are Bittrex. Kraken haven't and neither have Poloniex.
3053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: why altcoins are crashing again ? on: August 14, 2017, 03:47:48 PM
because traders are moving so quick to convert their coins and will surely convert it to fiat normal practice and just hold if you been trapped
since fluctuations will make a bounce back fro those quality coins which also dropping right now.

This is the right answer. When bitcoin goes mad, people can't resist changing alts back into bitcoin to cash out. You have to remember that the majority of the people in alts are only there because they think it's a method of making bitcoin.
3054  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin price possble to reach $4500 soon? on: August 14, 2017, 03:36:47 PM
According to the following article, some investors are piling into bitcoin because of Coinbase's latest fund-raising success:

http://fortune.com/2017/08/14/bitcoin-price-record-speed/

Quote
Digital currency exchange Coinbase Inc. announced Thursday it’s received a $100 million investment. The supply of bitcoin is capped at 21 million, compared with 16.5 million that had been mined as of Saturday, according to blockchain.info.

“People are starting to price in the consumer demand from Coinbase’s $100 million fund-raising round,” said Justin Short, London-based founder of trading platform Nous. “That’s a lot of advertising budget. Every $1 million of marketing brings new demand, which increases the price as the supply is limited by design.”

They think Coinbase is going to pull in a lot more users into bitcoin. I'm personally not sure about that, Coinbase will probably use the money to pay developers to make it's trading engine better.
3055  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin price possble to reach $4500 soon? on: August 14, 2017, 03:20:03 PM
According to coin market cap price, the Bitcoin price is $4287.70, which is close to the price you are saying. So its just the matter of time and the price of Bitcoin will go sky high.

It looks like it will hit $4500 this week. But there is a strong resistence point there, so it's liklely to pull back after that.
3056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex is a scam, watch out. on: August 14, 2017, 01:32:06 PM
Have you raised a ticket?

Bittrex also have a slack forum:

http://slack.bittrex.com/

where you can raise issues and discuss stuff with them
3057  Economy / Speculation / Re: Upcoming Global Financial Collapse and following World War 3 driving up Bitcoin? on: August 14, 2017, 11:39:50 AM
I don't think World War III is going to happen (for one thing, most countries would sensibly refuse to participate).

But South Koreans might be tempted to buy bitcoin just in case the won tanked if there was strife with North Korea.
3058  Economy / Economics / Re: The Best Universities to Study Blockchain Technology on: August 14, 2017, 11:15:11 AM
I had no idea it was being taught in University!

If you really want to learn all about it, then launch your own alt coin. The whole experience from the development to the marketing should be an education in itself.
3059  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have you dumped your BCC yet? on: August 14, 2017, 08:48:02 AM
I sold about 25% of my stash on bittrex for 0.17 on the first day (I got lucky with the price).

Am holding the rest, because I just don't know how the future is going to pan out. At some point the large blocks on BCH will become important as more and more people need to send coins, and I think there'lll be an uptick in price when that happens.
3060  Economy / Speculation / Re: Reasons behind this Rise/Bubble? on: August 14, 2017, 07:25:25 AM
Fiat isn't crashing in our lifetimes

Yeah it is. It's crashing right now... through blatant creeping inflation and soon hyperinflation.

Ever heard of the boiling frog parable? The entire populous has it's head in the sand.

Fiat isn't crashing and the dollar has been on an upward trajectory since 2014.

However, if I was South Korean, I'd stash a bit of money in bitcoin, just in case the North Korea thing took the south korean economy and currency down with it.
