3041  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nick Szabo, Wei Dai... Who are their employers? on: January 21, 2016, 05:47:46 AM
Who are their employers?

Nick Szabo the one born in 1930, graduate of UC Berkeley, resident of Silicon Valley (Cupertino), employed at Lockheed, Link-Singer, and KLA,
http://www.faireconomy.org/files/pdf/notalonereportfinal.pdf

That would make him 85 years old and still employed....
I doubt it. Most people retire in their early 60s.

Count Szabo is a man who never dies, and who knows everything.
3042  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ToominCoin aka "Bitcoin_Classic" #R3KT on: January 21, 2016, 05:38:30 AM

That does it.  I'm all out of #rekt memes.   Undecided
3043  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Analysis and list of top big blocks shills (XT #REKT ignorers) on: January 21, 2016, 05:34:02 AM
The problem is that if we deploy 2 MB blocks right now we have to postpone SegWit. A combination of those would be similar to a increase to 4 MB which is definitely unsafe, especially considering that a transaction at 2 MB could be created that would take over 10 minutes to validate. It is either 2 MB block size or SegWit right now. Tell me again what benefits come with a 2 MB block size? None.

The Toominista "2MB Right Fucking Now Because Reasons" plan is all cost with no benefit.

That's why Classic is #rekt and DOA.
3044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Analysis and list of top big blocks shills (XT #REKT ignorers) on: January 21, 2016, 05:31:58 AM
They've voted 89% in favour of removing Theymos alert key access.

Sheer folly.

Appointing Theymos Guardian of the Forum and Keeper of the Sacred Alert Key was Satoshi's greatest (external) triumph.

Inflicting Agent Andresen on the developers was his greatest mistake.

"The mother of all hard forks!"

The Big Red Button.  The nuclear option.

Core's Doomsday Weapon.

Tooministas must cease their aggressive brinksmanship, or the hard fork missile crisis may get ugly.

I sleep soundly at night, knowing Bitcoin is supremely well-protected from catastrophic consensus failure.   Cool
3046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ToominCoin aka "Bitcoin_Classic" #R3KT on: January 20, 2016, 10:47:42 AM
No wonder the Tooministas promptly memory-holed Marshall Long from their dev list (and replaced him with Peter_R, master of Powerpoint pull reqs).

Bitcoin Classic is possibly a Takeover Attempt by Cryptsy and Marshall Long of FinalHash to dump Worthless Coins on Depositers

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/41ge93/bitcoin_classic_is_possibly_a_takeover_attempt_by/

Marshall Long CTO of FinalHash and CTO of Cryptsy who still lists Cryptsy on the FinalHash website has been the one of the primary forces pushing for Bitcoin Classic in what would likely result in a fork with two chains due to it's extremely controversial nature of being pushed for activation before SegWit. Since Cryptsy's liabilities are primarily in Bitcoin it is theorized he is likely still working closely with them to come up with a way to resolve their problems. Big Verne has flown to China and is likely working closely with Marshall Long in order to create a hard fork where the coins from the losing chain can be dumped on Cryptsy's users for pennies on the dollar.

The smoking gun here is how he all of a sudden goes from supporting the core roadmap and saying miners nearly unanimously support segwit on Dec 14th to a complete about face and withdraw of his support from the roadmap on Jan 5th do a search for "FinalHash" in those archive links to see the specific posts in question. Shortly after this about face it is revealed that Cryptsy was running a fractional reserve. Cryptsy likely knew about pending legal action back in December and would be working on a strategy to resolve their liabilities. Dumping pre-fork coins on their users is a plausible strategy for resolving their legal liabilities.

The people involved with Bitcoin Classic have close ties to FinalHash and Cryptsy and have been working under repository called "Multicoin-co" here.

You can see details of the Bitcoin Classic involvement in FinalHash lead developer Ahmed Bodiwala's github history who as you can see here has been very active with altcoin development and also has close ties to Cryptsy in addition to having commit access to the bitcoin classic repository along with jtoomim and Marshall Long himself. Marshall Long was also closely involved with the mintsy.co scam. Marshall long has been involved in countless other scams such as GAW miners.

While it is just a theory that Marshall Long is pushing for a hard fork to dump the losing chain's coins on Cryptsy users it does seem like a realistic possibility given the evidence. Even if there is another reason for this hard fork push do you really want someone involved with all these scams to be in charge of bitcoin protocol development?

Unfortunately I was also to late for the airdrop and I also expect my mining equipment is not good enough to have here success.

Any news about the going live? I want to buy some coins at the exchanges. Thanks.

No need to wait for exchanges.  You may start bidding for OTC trades in this thread, or start one for that specific purpose.

We don't have to know exactly who Satoshi is to know he's 100% Team Cypherpunk.

And the upcoming fair relaunch of Dash Classic can't be helping!

ANN thread?

[ANN] thread and website debut will coincide with Evolusham "demo" in Miami.

PM if you want to help relaunch Dash fairly, without an instamine and shady Foundation.

Let's return to the original vision of Darkcoin!
3052  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: CRYPTSY stopping withdraw locking accounts without notifying users! Class Action on: January 20, 2016, 12:24:39 AM

The divorce and bankruptcy lawyers are going to claw back every satoshi of Bitcoin and shitoshi of Crapcoin they can track down.

I can't even begin to imagine how you think that could be accomplished.  I had a withdrawal, actually a few between June or July and Octoberish. But all crypt-sty has on me is an email address and a name.  Is someone going to email me and ask me to return some alt coins?  I seriously doubt it.  And if they do, I won't be sending anything.

Your email and name are more than enough for Gleb to track you down, especially when the empty-bagholding Craptsy victims are helping him.

And anyone with substantial withdrawals has been verified.

Don't underestimate the aggression hungry bankruptcy and divorce lawyers are capable of.

They are not above using barratry (extortion by attorney, under color of law) to recover lost funds.  Ask cypherdoc about that...
3053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 20, 2016, 12:18:13 AM
Shorts are being bent over and spanked.  New monthly high achievement unlocked.

There are hardly any shorts (despite no shortage of people who talk as if they would). I've watched the lending market and seen almost no demand, and relatively little supply.

There may be off-exchange shorts, for example, people who sold hoping to buy lower, and are now risking a spanking by the FOMO paddle.

I saw available for lending XMR go up to ~50k (a new high) before the our rally started, when Dash was still spiking.

Now the ~0% almost free ones are long gone, we're down to ~30k, and my offers are being nibbled gobbled.

I concede you watch the market more closely than I, but IMO there are ~10-20k XMR in (deeply underwater) short positions.

Okay 10-20k = 14-28 BTC = hardly any to me.

Volume is 175 BTC today. So 10-20K XMR in shorts needing to cover (all in one day) wouldn't account for much of that. I wouldn't want to be them though.

Loan offers down to 28.5k.  Loan rates rising very quickly from here.

~15k in short covering is enough to eat the wall protecting 0.00145.

But bids above 14 are thin.  Very exciting!   Cool

Speculation: Dash being suppressed as XMR loan fees require constant liquidation of scamcoin collateral.  And the upcoming fair relaunch of Dash Classic can't be helping!

Not now, I did not bought it enough yet while it is still relatively cheap.

Still pllenty available below 0.0015.

Plenty for plankton, minnows, and a few dolphins.

For a whale, much less a pod, not at all.

Also, this trollbox chatter should be in our Speculation thread.

Holy Bikesheds, Batman!

You are funny, that article links directly to the bit fury paper.

3 Conclusion
In order for the Bitcoin ecosystem to continue developing, the maximum block size needs to be in-creased.

SEGWIT effectively increases the blocksize by about the same amount as the Toominista 'not much testing needed' 2MB proposal, with the added benefits of being thoroughly tested, fixing malleability, and enabling pruning, plus (most importantly) avoiding a contentious hard fork that carries the risk of catastrophic consensus failure and/or proof-of-work change.

In a cost/benefit analysis, 2MB Classic loses to 1MB+SW Core.  Shockingly, even Reddit is starting understand that!   Cheesy

Bitfury knows a fork war is a very bad idea.  His Legitimate Russian Slavic Businessmen investors will not be happy if their giant, expensive new mines suddenly become obsolete, all because Toominista brinksmanship forced Core to exercise their nuclear option.

Max block size will be increased in due time, once we pay off technical debt and have in place better signature verification technology which is not subject to quadratic processing times.

As Satoshi foretold, blocks will be allowed to grow "eventually" but Sorry, Not Tonight Dear!

You ignored the point of my post, which is that the "free tx 4EVA" Paypal-wannabe payment network Tooministas are in serious, irreconcilable disagreement the the Bitfury "slow and secure, not a fancy Visa" store-of-value faction.

Valery saw his parents' (and community's) life savings destroyed, and then later his own.  His hatred of fiat exceeds even my own, which is actually impossible.  But the 'Bitcoin replaces commercial, not central, banking' side is digging in their heels.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/41lzjm/keep_calm_and_bitcoin_on/cz3lh2j

Quote
I respectfully completely disagree with what Valery wrote. It's really sad to see this kind of propaganda going on - but whoever reads this needs to understand that what he wrote is wrong.

First, understand this: To get new users over the past three to four years, Bitcoin has sold the idea that it would allow users to send money anywhere, quickly and free. Period. That was the revolutionary idea. Bitcoin is valuable because of its transaction utility. None of this "oh we have to take your money now" approach.

This promise was floated freely in /r/bitcoin several years ago. However, Valery's vision is new, different and miner-centric. It breaks this original promise. In effect he's saying, "Welp, it no longer does that, so let's take that part off the website. It's still good enough."

Valery is essentially saying that the block reward isn't enough to keep miners mining, when the system is designed to become easier to mine when there are less miners around.

The idea that miners have to make additional money off of transaction fees in order to have enough incentive to continue mining... It's basically not trusting the system to work as designed. In that case why do we even have a block reward? In this scenario, miners are no different than any credit card payment processor, taking money off of the top.

This idea that a fee is necessary is totally wrong, and here's why:

If you take away the basic fundamental user incentive to use the system, you undermine the value of that system.

If Bitcoin is free to use, more people will use it. If more people use it the value goes up. That increased value then provides the only necessary incentive to mine Bitcoin. If the price goes down, less miners will be mining and discovering new blocks becomes easier. This is how the system should work.

Bitcoin isn't for miners or Nasdaq settlements. Bitcoin's primary function is for the basic user. Everyone can be their own bank. Anyone can send money to anyone, for free.

All transactions on the network should work in a timely manner and 10,000 unconfirmed transactions is unacceptable. The block size needs an increase, or the cap removed to allow new users to join, regardless of what China's internet speed is capped out at.

I swear, these fucking Redditurd Tooministas.  One second it's "respectfully disagree" the next it's "zomg this propaganda."  At least that comment is being downvoted, even by the suspect, low-information /r/btc mob of Basic Betas.

I'm expecting more fireworks and making more popcorn.  The food fight in Classic's bikeshed is only going to get nastier.

Anyone kicking himself for not having bought as much as they were planning to, during this long plateau we seem to leave now?

Nope.  I went 'all in' by rebalancing my 50/50 BTC/XMR position in the 0.0010 to 0.0012 range.

I'm very satisfied with that decision, and now very happy to lend my XMR to anyone brave enough to short the market.

It's like proof of stake, but without all the shitty side effects (besides trusting Polo).   Cool Cool Cool

Keccak?

this is the worst idea I've seen for BTC, switching algo as if it were some altcoin....

it disenfranchises miners who've invested millions/billions in SHA256 hardware.

You don't get to have it both ways.

Miners who choose to support a contentious hard fork are voluntarily disenfranchising themselves; that status is obviously entailed by voluntary defection from the socioeconomic majority.

If their attack on Bitcoin becomes an actual threat (rather than a laughingstock like XT and Unlimited) to our coins, we may switch Core's proof of work in order to avoid a fork war and thereby prevent catastrophic consensus failure.

Should the giant Toominista mines become worthless ToominCoin dumps, they will have nothing to blame except their own brinksmanship.

I welcome a switch to Keccak (or CrypoNight).  It would decentralized mining and improve Bitcoin's antifragility.

f2pool, KnC, and Bitfury should seriously reconsider their determination to become de facto altcoin miners.

They need to understand the way Bitcoin's electronic intrusion countermeasures work - the harder you attack Bitcoin, the harder Bitcoin attacks you.

And you still haven't told us why it took you so long to get bored painting vanity bikesheds at your rump forum.

But it's nice you've come crawling back, with your curly tail tucked between your stumpy widdle pug legs.  Welcome home dear old Doctor Frappe!
3059  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: CRYPTSY stopping withdraw locking accounts without notifying users! Class Action on: January 19, 2016, 09:38:34 PM

Seems legit.  Too bad for anyone that made a substantial withdrawal in the last 18 months.

The divorce and bankruptcy lawyers are going to claw back every satoshi of Bitcoin and shitoshi of Crapcoin they can track down.

Those Bitcoins and Crapcoins will then be liquidated for fiat in market rate dumps without regard to slippage.  No speculation allowed.

Let's start a list of known whales with such withdrawals.

1) Otoh

- ~100 BTC
- 1000s of Dash
- 10,000s of LTC
