--snipp-- Excellent guide for seed phrase wallet security, passphrases and plausible deniability.

Edit: Corrected some typos.

Thanks for the guide.  Ginourmous merit pile given.

One complaint.  Probably already mentioned...

"Infinite".  If you put the word virtually in there I think we are more accurate.  Because if we all have infinate addresses, then we all... well have the same addresses.  We just all START from a different point. Wink

Thanks cAPSLOCK, glad you guys liked my post, this subject fascinates me, and I enjoy talking about it.

About your comment regarding "infinite", I see what you're trying to say, but still, it's OK to use the word "infinite", as explained below:

Suppose you assign each one of all wallets in existence a unique, non-negative integer ID.

Let's say I have access to the wallets with IDs: 0, 2, 4, ... Inf.
You have access to the wallets with IDs: 1, 3, 5, ... Inf.

You have access to infinite wallets. I also have access to infinite wallets. But none of my wallets have the same ID as any of yours. What this means is that there can be infinite sets that do not share common elements (like the sets of even and odd numbers, as illustrated above).

The word "infinite", as I used it in my Plausible Deniability post, is indeed not accurate, but for a different reason. In reality, the keys belong to a finite (albeit extremely large) set, so the number of wallets in existence is not really infinite. But it's so large that it's "practically infinite".

That was actually the basic point I was going to make about the size of the overall key space, but then I started having a flashback or something and started thinking about infinity and riffing... Wink

Unfortunately the numbers are NOT going down, and do not appear to be stabilizing either.  Too early to say for sure... but from what we see all the signs are pointing up.

Greatly appreciate your insider perspective. Thank you, brother.

You're welcome...  And I don't mean to be dramatic about it.  It really is hard to say right now anything more than we are most certainly seeing the biggest surge-let since the start.

Real numbers.

Last week we were at ~63% capacity.  The big facilities in our system (Dallas, FW, Arlington) are now at around 87% of capacity for negative flow rooms.  The smaller community hospitals do not see those kinds of percentages.  And much of this capacity is stuff we built and brought online in anticipation of the surge that really never came.  And today was (I am pretty sure) the biggest day for positive tests so far.

WORST case is this is the wake of Memorial Day weekend.  If that is so we have the combination of the protests, "reopening" and just laxer public habits to look forward to.  I do the shopping for my domicile, and the last week or two people seem to be becoming much more lax about contact/masking etc.  It would be bad, but not as bad if this is the front end of the protest surge.  And best case is it is just a small random bump.

The weird thing about COVID is it does not affect most people overly much, and yet a certain percentage of folks are going to have their lungs damaged.   And we are forgetting how contagious it is because it is so harmless for the majority.

That said...  there are those who think the whole thing is just a big psy-op.  I am not so sure.

But I sure do hope these rising numbers are just a little anomaly, and not the front end of something bigger...

- A resurgence in new infections has been detected in Florida, Texas and California. 170,000 new cases in the U.S within one week.

IIRC, Dallas county has had 300+ infections per day, for almost three to four days in a row now. It's up, but slowly stabilizing at a higher value. Was a couple-few days last week where I think they broke records for consecutive days.

Meta: It's troubling to me in a way. I've read reports that it is disproportionately affecting black and brown folk more severely than other races. Evidently there is some genetic component involved, leading to a harsher response to the virus. Sheeit.

In that county I have access to a MAJOR hospital system's trending COVID data.  (access is an understatement)

Unfortunately the numbers are NOT going down, and do not appear to be stabilizing either.  Too early to say for sure... but from what we see all the signs are pointing up.

No passphrase: 0.1 BTC
{normal_pass}: 10 BTC
{really_strong_pass}: 100 BTC

I’m not going to answer this with any clue as to what sea dwelling creature I am but I saw this before & it made me laugh. I imagine we have all types of so called sea creatures related to bitcoin, swimming around the WO at times Smiley

What's your Bitcoin rank?

Humpback Whale = 5000 BTC or more

Whale = 1000 - 5000 BTC

Shark = 500 - 1000 BTC

Dolphin = 100 - 500 BTC

Fish = 50 - 100 BTC

Octopus = 10 - 50 BTC

Crab = 1 - 10 BTC

Shrimp = less then 1 BTC

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/deeponion.org/community/threads/what-kind-of-bitcoin-holder-are-you.9129/%3famp=1510623395

Thing is, unless bitcoin fails, just about every spot on this list will be very well off aside from the Shrimp.  And even some of the big Shrimp will be in decent shape.

This is an interesting wee tale.

https://decrypt.co/32145/hackers-blackmail-exchange-with-5-million-of-ethereum-fees-report?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sm

The theory is that hackers have control of an exchange's coins but can only move them to whitelisted addresses they don't control. They're putting humongous fees on top and demanding payoffs from the exchange to stop it.

Why is it ALWAYS ETH where the sketchiest shit happens?
Because ETH is just a huge convoluted pulsating attack surface.

Boy oh boy... I have had this feeling for a while, but it looks like it really may come to be that the corn might have it's biggest boss fight so far in the near-ish future.

The convergence of things right now is scary/exciting.

Yuck, yuck... yuck. Sad

So take a look at the stock market today... We might be moving with it again.

BTC is tracking with Stonks and oil, while gold holds.

Nasty.

At some point the shorts will cover though.
3132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 10, 2020, 07:16:39 PM
Well... monero has tanked on all these recent BTC spikes before they get hammered back down.  Does not seem to have this time on the run to 10k and back.

Interesting.

So I wonder if the entity that is most likely setting tons of sells above spot and then market selling once those get gobbled up a single person or if it is a group?

It certainly seems like it is most likely the same actor(s) since the basic modus operandi is the same each time.

Seems strange to want to sell so much into what seems like a fairly bullish setup.  I dunno.  Maybe that's why I don't have my island yet.
3134  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 10, 2020, 06:39:10 PM

That actually is the dumbest thing I have seen at least this year.

Jesus take the damn wheel...

I mean, even if you don't agree to meet with any of us shorter-term WO plebs personally, I hope that at least you will allow some of us to visit your island, and maybe provide free appetizers?  No pressure.

 Wink Wink

I am a simple man Jay, with fairly simple tastes in life.  And have little need for much possessions.  And aside from probably NOT being in the "can buy an island if bitcoin does one or two more runs" category, I'd likely not buy one even if I could.

That said, there is no doubt that I could pick up a vegetable tray or salami platter from Krogers on the way to a WO meetup some day if that mythical event ever happens.  I mean... I'm even good for that if bitcoin only goes DOWN from here...

Not enough to buy an island, but enough to buy a food platter whether BTC prices go up or not...

What to make of it?

I will have to ponder the matter longer, and maybe some day, I could formulate a witty response.

You have truly and literally stumped the chump, this time.   Cry Cry Cry

This was exactly the position I wished for you to be in after my posting.  I see no reason to divulge in any way or to any extent how many bitcoin I hold. But unfortunately another effect of having been in the space for so long there is no doubt that just about all my holdings are known thanks to my reuse of addresses in early days and my various counterparties over the years.  Oh well...  This is also why I think Monero actually has a use case.

Acid is a young persons game. After you get the message, hang up the phone.

I can't agree with you there Jimbo. I'm far from young and still use it. I find that the message changes over time. You could say it gives you the message you need to hear at the time.

Towards the end of my experience with it the message was "You are going to lose your mind if you keep going down this path".  Ha.

3138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 09, 2020, 09:57:42 PM
Really the killer app would be some kind of trust minimized atomic exchange.  Via lightning/tari perhaps?  Because in a sense Monero's least private bit is on/offramps more than anything else.

This proposal for atomic swaps has been fully funded:  https://ccs.getmonero.org/proposals/h4sh3d-atomic-swap-research.html

But really...  XMR's 'killer app' is it's privacy.  No other cryptocurrency can ever claim that it's better when it comes to privacy.

cAps was stating the killer app to support the monero eco system would be a seamless unregulated and private decentralized on/offramp and that looks like it is to take the form of atomic swaps. He was not stating that Monero's killer application is not privacy. I think you have skewed the context there. And yes there is no better fungible asset class than monero, not just in crypto.

Exactly correct.

What I was describing is one way Monero locks into a multidimensional crypto ecosystem, and eases all the ridiculous machinations people are doing to try to insure privacy in BTC.  All this without BTC having to change fundamentally while letting Monero provide the strongest privacy layer for BTC basically.

To quote a particular dbag "What many people fail to understand" is almost all alts do NOTHING that Bitcoin does not already do, or can have a secondary layer built to perform.  Monero is one of the very few that actually do check off that box.

Hmm... this is not the picture we were hoping for.  But I guess we will take it.

Also you young to need to get the prostate checked.

Back in the 1960s we used to say, "you can't trust anyone over 30".

 Grin

I was 2 in the 60s.  So you can trust me.

no that "im now two years old" trip was pretty common when dropping acid in the 60s

I was reborn on LSD in the 1960s.

Does that make me Generation X?

If I took 500 mcg (oh for the Sandoz that used to come in through Stanford) now would I become Generation Alpha?

 Huh

500.  About as high as I ever went.  Just remembering it scares the shit out of me. But it was probably different in the 80s.  Your's probably cleaner.
