'Trust takes years to build, seconds to break and forever to repair'
- Nice one (do not matter where did you get it). Anyway that's off topic. I sent you an sMerit (only one I had) for good constructive feedback. Keep it up.

Quote
it's always nice to have healthy discussion and bounce suggestions back off other people.
-Sure it is.

...you would not be able to then do this without first finding someone else to give merit to...

- You won't need to find someone else to give merit for that post. Someone else will surely find it to give merit since it's a good post. I believe there are enough people who are merit source (or will be) to merit for good work. In my opinion restriction will improve misusing sMerits giving someone again and again and again. You can give sMerit to the same person after certain period of time though. All you need to do is to wait.

Consider when you were a new member. I guess when you are a new member, just joined, the system did not allow you to make two posts in an hour. This was for spammers who has intention to spam, is kind of just to stop them from what they wanted to do. Sure you can not stop everyone, still we see people are spamming but at-least it's a good way to stop them for a while at the first place.

It's my own view of-course I do not disagree with your views as well.

PS: It's a shame that most of the people in the forum are keep saying new members are lacking knowledge hence they can not post quality contents. Guess what it's not always true. I seen there are new members who are doing better then some of the highest ranked members. I went through your posts and you deserve more merits on some of your contents.
3142  Other / Meta / Re: Spamming scams now in every thread possible - great new tactic :( on: February 28, 2018, 03:03:31 PM
I made a decision today to report 10 shitposts a day and I guess this one is going to be my 11th one  Grin

I believe whenever you see something like this, the best is to report and then do whatever you need to do after.
3143  Other / Meta / My realisation today on: February 28, 2018, 01:58:43 PM
If you see, bitcoin discussion section is full of spam. For example there are threads like: How to explain bitcoin to child, baby, mother-in-law and etc, fear of bitcoin (new phobia?), bitcoin vs paypal
I barely read that section, because of the useless spam. It would be very nice to "claim it back" from the spammers. Let them have the altcoin-section (I consider that section lost), but stay away from the Bitcoin discussion.

There are now literally threads with the same title:
Can the government stop bitcoin?
Can The Government Stop Bitcoin?

The last one is just a linkdump, and yet, it has 6 pages already. I've just reported it, let's see if it disappears.
Update: both threads are gone.

Am i eligible for policing ?  Roll Eyes

I think from today I will keep my eyes open to report shitposting.

Just noted it on my whiteboard  Grin

3144  Other / Meta / Re: Low quality topics of some newbies and jr members on: February 28, 2018, 01:39:52 PM
It's really unfair keep saying higher rank member creating good post and lower rank members are not good at creating good posts.
Someone with good writing skill can still create good contents no matter they joined today or 7 years ago.

The reason why we are not capable of posting high quality topics is because we still lack knowledge about bitcoin/altcoin or any other topics here in the forum.

There are no scope to deny that higher rank member know much more about this forum than most of the lower ranked members. It's the set of rules apply in anywhere you go. In England, we drive on the left side and in US they drive on the right. If you do not learn the difference then you will create a mess because of not knowing the law but that does not mean that you don't know how to drive a car really fast.

When it comes to Bitcoin/Alts then I do not agree that higher rank member will always know more or things like that than lower rank members. Trust me I have seen members with Legendary rank lack very basic common sense.

We need to stop creating groups. Smiley

For the newbies and jr members out there, it takes time to learn. As what a higher rank member said, dont chase merits. Let merits chase you
- Good advice

.....the problem is that newbies desperately want to rank up and they don't care if they fill the forum whit spam. Maybe they will stop once they see that spamming doesn't help them at all.

- You will find these sorts of people in everywhere. They will always try to take advantages. That's merit is a good thing to stop them.

It's a shame, but a necessary evil. With growth comes new members, and with new members comes growth. Luckily, the merit system can cull out the wheat from the chaff.
- Thumbs up  Cool

I just started this month. My friend let me borrow his acct

Don't abuse his attempt to help you by messing up his account with posts like that.

I've experienced the same issue in the beginning and I have reported it but looks like still no change.
Never go back or refresh the page or maybe use the Merit UI- here's the link

I thought it was fixed. The previous issue was on refreshing the page but not sure on this was what exactly happened.

Then they should fix this issue. Its irreversible and sMerits are very significant.

I may not be the only one who've experienced the same case.

I'm sure it's not for refreshing the page or is it?

I believe he is banned from even accessing the forum.

I really tried to look for his social presence but unfortunately even his YT channel is down too. I wonder where is this guy in the real world. He really had (has) things to share.

3148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I lost half of my crypto amount! what to do? on: February 27, 2018, 11:00:16 PM
Should I wait and hodl or pull out and do something else?

You are definitely new in the game. In a year you will find few times the ALTs will pump no guarantee although. I suggest do your best researching why the coins are dropping. If you find valid reasons then try to settle even in lose. If you find it's just because for the current market situation then hold.

Most of the ALTs do not have any  dollar value so they always follow the price of BTC. When BTC pumps they stay still then when BTC settles after the pump then the ALTs starts to pump and vice versa. I have seen it from my experience.

It really is your own decision what to do. Always invest that you can afford to lose. Be patience and strategic in your investment. Do not get FOMOed or run after FUD.

And by the way you are not alone. This situation is very common and will continue until Bitcoin again hits around 20k (My guess by the way)

it seems that you are not alone in facing this situation, I am too, even my friend is worse...
Lastly, know that I am still bag holding a couple of alts from last year some of which I have had for 10 months now (and don't know when I can get rid of but will wait it out).

-These are just some example picks.

XRP was a manipulated coin that is why you have lost a lot with this coin.

- I am on the same page like you. It's a centralised coin for the Banking system

Many altcoin project still have good future such as Eth, Neo, Iota, etc. So, you just need to waiting it or buying some other prospect coins that will recover your loss.
-Ada, wabi, UTK, DBC are also some good project in my opinion. Reality is except few like ETH, NEO all other coins are in relatively in deep. It's time to buy not to sell.
3149  Other / Meta / Re: Is the bitcointalk merit system democratic? on: February 27, 2018, 07:22:10 PM
This gives them a mindset, and they read such posts with a funny face that "this is a new kid in the block" .
Unfortunately, you nailed it  Cool

Finally, this system albeit it's promise of improving the post quality hinders new members from deserved merits from the merit "whales" lol.
Let the whales  Roll Eyes do their work and you and me be strategic on our side. I see the idea of merit system is great however the application level needs to be improved.

EG did they sit down and have a coffee and really think about what they were going to post. or are they just being sheep to the propaganda of reddit. copy and pasting nonsense and using the obvious buzzwords of the month that show no original thought

many people know i have helped and supported "noobs" to understand better, and also facepalmed and treated some legendary members as naive dimwhits.. purely based on what they post. not their ranking
I think we all need a neutral mind. Forget about who is noobs and who is opposite. As long as the content is good, give merit for that. This is the sole purpose of the whole merit system. Give recognition of your content.

Their posts are mostly just posts about merits, bounties, cheap shills, and full of broken english.
I am glad you used the word mostly  Grin
3150  Other / Meta / Merit hole and 3 fixes might work (Worth looking) on: February 27, 2018, 06:44:58 PM
Bringing Merit on the table was a great idea from the administrator. Anyone has a good sense (admit or ignore) can see the massive improvement on members activity without any doubt. It's obvious now that merit is playing a greater role determine both ranking up and giving credits for your contribution in the forum. The whole idea of introducing merit system is a success in my opinion however I think the application of merit needs to be revised or the members of the forum will keep misusing the system for their own benefits.

Initially, I thought Merit was a bad idea then I realised I was wrong. Few days ago I created a poll to get feedback from the community and the result changed my mind (Although, I believe I need more data to give the credit to the poll but I figured it out anyway).

I looked into deep and I can say, It's not the idea to be blamed it's the application which needs to be improvised.

You may agree or disagree with me but I would love to bring some suggestions on the table. To see better application for the Merit system, consider adding some of these ideas with the current system. I believe we will see better application for the Merit system then.

1. Giving sMerit to someone should have a limit especially when two person is giving sMerits to each others.
-Two individual with bad intention can easily take advantage if they do not have limit giving sMerits to each others.

Consider this example, how two person with having 10 Merits and 5 sMerits each, can really turn their 5 sMerits into 9 more Merits. Eventually they will end up having 19 Merits each from only having 5 initial sMerits each.

Suggestion: Bring a InOneGo limit.

-Allow giving only x amount of sMerits InOneGo to someone  for y amount of periods.
Quote
It's really a luxury to send total of 23 merits 21 times to only one person.

Example,
x = 1 sMerit
y = 1 months period.

If person A wants to give another 1 sMerit to the same person B then he has to wait a full 1 months for that.
Of-course the person A can keep giving sMerits to other members like C, D, E etc as long and his limit does not exits.

Note: We know currently person A can give total of 50 sMerits in a month to whoever he wants without InOneGo limit.

I guess experimenting with different values for x and y variable will give you a better answer finding what should be the applicable value for x and y.

2. For a Legendary member, receiving Merit should have a restriction or (may be just) don't apply Merit for them
-Merit is a form of evaluating a good post. For a Legendary member however in terms of ranking up that merit just became a waste.

When it's coming for Legendary case then merit is losing with its own use-case.

- You give merit to a Legendary you are wasting the limited merit source since it has no use for them on raking up.
- But if you do not merit their good posts then how would their good posts will get recognised?

Suggestion: Don't let the Legendary to receive Merits instead...

Honour the Legendary members by making them a Merit source. Not all of them of-course. Let the community choose who will be their merit source.

Create a criteria of the Legendary members  based on their recent activities. You need data of-course. List the selected group of Legendary members in a poll and let all the other members (except Legendary themselves) give their vote. Then chose top x number of Legendary members and make them Merit source.

Now, this might create another mess if these Legendary members start thinking that they have the power for forever. So, set Y period of time for these Legendary members to be a merit source. After Y period of time there will be another selection process for choosing merit source again. The same Legendary members who were merit source before can also be selected on the new selection process. Power will be distributed equally then.

Keep in mind that recent activities, Y period of time are vary vital for this polling system of choosing merit source from the Legendary members.

Now, question is how would we credit the Legendary members when they provide us great contents? Very simple, bring a special form of crediting feature for them. Such as "upVote" or "like" their post (or something like that which won't have any relation with ranking up)?

3. Accounts ever logged in or even has created from the same IP should not be able to merit each other at all.
-It's really possible that these people know each others personally, may be family members or so. They will obviously try to favour each others with merits.

I'm not 100% sure that the current system restricts creating account from the same IP but I doubt it has this feature. Otherwise we would not see lots of alts. It really is a shame that even higher ranked members are creating alts to take advantage of the system. Whatever is your reason, when you already have an account with the system then creating an alt really is an unethical business.

Anyway, if the system detects that account A and B created from the same IP or account A and B ever come across under the same IP then write a special set of rules for them.
-A and B can not exchange any sMerit ever
-The other accounts (c, d, e etc accounts) who, ever exchanged sMerits anytime with A and B will also be never able to give sMerits to A and B. This will prevent misusing sMerits like this... I (A) will give you (C) two sMerits, please you give 1 sMerits to him (B) situation like this and so on.

Finally, It's obvious that Merit system needs to be revised today or tomorrow. Some may say it's only a month or so, the system need more time to be tested. I do get it and agree with them however... A wise man once said, “All the waters in the oceans won't fill a bucket with a hole in it”

I guess you get the idea now. Cheesy
3151  Other / Meta / Re: Newbies are struggling to level up their account on: February 27, 2018, 02:01:15 PM
The newbies, especially the ones who wanted to increase their rank are struggling with the limitations that some are spending money to buy copper.
Patience and perseverance is the key to increase your level. Every achievement that comes from hard work is sweeter than those things you had easy. It is so fulfilling that you started from the bottom and you are slowly going up to the top. No person can become adult immediately  no matter how much they want it because there are certain things we learn while we grow up and priceless experiences. We must learn to take things slowly, limitations are made because it gives us lessons that everything does not come unlimited. Smiley

Merit is playing its own role in the ground although it needs to be improved, there were valid points coming from the members.

If you analyse past one months members activity then it is really clear that lots of improvements we are seeing. When you trust a group of people and allow them to make decision for you then you have to accept what they decide despite it's right or wrong. We human always get biased when it comes to make a decision.

This current system would be a better one if we could make better decision on giving sMerit to someone, although the current merit system needs some twist to improve in my opinion. Some members are really misusing the merits.
3152  Other / Meta / You have a valid point on: February 27, 2018, 01:45:37 PM
Legendary member dont need more merits because they have a lot. They are also the ones who gives merits to the members who post good topics so why giving them a lot?

You have valid point since merit is directly related to ranking up.

Current merit system is playing two major role;
1. Raking up
2. Determining the post quality

But when it's coming for Legendary case then it's losing its own use-case.

1. You give merit to a Legendary you are wasting the limited merit source since it has no use for them on raking up.
2. Their posts (those are good) will not get recognition if you do not give them merit thinking these merit has no use of ranking up.

I think Instead of allowing sMerits to the Legendary members something we need to figure out that how to make them merit source. Not all of them of-course. There will be voting system (or something like that where community will decide), Legendary members who are really caring for the forum will be awarded as merit source. Let's not deny that all Legendary members will be qualified for that but here again their good post will not be recognised since you can not sMerit them.

May be how about a special form of crediting feature for them. Such as upVote or like their post? (Not sure  Roll Eyes )
3153  Other / Meta / Re: Why did they actually enter MERIT ? on: February 27, 2018, 11:52:28 AM
How do you think?

I think you are frustrated. Take a chill pill  Grin

I think it is sad that you mentioned Russia in association with the banned selling of merit points. Putin is trying to elevate Russia to a place as a respectable country in world affairs, and his healthy farming initiative is to be applauded. Russia has had a bad reputtion for scamming and other unsavoury practices in the past, and I suspect that many honest Russians are trying to shake this off. Is the Russian board any worse than any of the other local boards?

I always have respect Russia for their bravery and courage. We are living in USA dominated planet so when they say something that is correct. They have the mainstream media. And we all know how mainstream media manipulates us. Good people and bad people exists everywhere.

PS: I'm no Russian  Cheesy

I read somewhere that soon is coming a Telegram token and that Theymos whats to have a huge part of the distribution of the tokens that's why he introduced the merit system now, so he and his alts to be able to participate in all the bounties and all the poor peasants will be left aside.

- You are kidding! right?
I hope it's not correct or we all are basically bunches of puppets.  Cry
We are fighting for decentralisation (  Huh ) here. COME ON!!!

Merit system need just more time and some improvements. I'm pretty sure the administrators are keeping close eyes on the data and statistics

Why use 10 words when you can use 50... is this the nullius effect?

3154  Other / Meta / Re: Merit survey for the better on: February 27, 2018, 11:06:49 AM
Polls are highly inaccurate because of heavy account farming. I actually laugh when someone cites a poll to advance their beliefs knowing all too well it is skewed and you pretty much wasted your time.

With that being said again it's the users who are taking disadvantages not the system. The system is here doing it's job. In a month we are seeing people are now more focused on how to spend more time on the forum and how to be creative on their writing. It's because of the merit system. The merit system is doing it's job just fine we need to think about how to apply it. Giving it to members and waiting for fair result is kind of day dreaming. Sometimes even good people (intentionally or unintentionally) in the forum using their merit to favour each others.

1.Finding Alt accounts on the forum and reporting them in the suggested format in this thread: Known Alts of any-one - A User Generated List Mk III

Just sent an alt account information Check here

The account claims s/he has an original account and a merit source and from the reported account s/he is trying to express him/her  Shocked

Another alt account submitted.

The motive has been explained. Sadly a higher rank member is doing this. They should be ashamed of it.

Proof:
This thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3015543.0

Clearly stated that's an alt account https://prnt.sc/iji8yb

Not sure about the motive of this account s/he created. Why would someone need an alt account to express themselves. It can be easily said from the original account.

Funny thing is the account already received a merit even knowing it's not an original account. This is just misuse of merit, space, energy of the forum.

Found another one, this one is from a higher ranked member, shame that they do this for the sake of their advertisements...

Accounts Connected: aTriz

(Where possible put UID's in numerical order) aTriz_alt

Proof: Screenshot, Original post

The motive is clear, no one need to be a rocket scientist to find the motive. The account holding is simply just trying to promote his main account to get campaign management jobs.

3158  Other / Meta / Re: Merit survey for the better on: February 26, 2018, 08:24:01 PM
I am pretty sure that most of the users here in the forum are still against the new system......

I used to think the same but I have created a poll to check whether my thinking is right or wrong and guess what the result (so far) is totally different.

32.6% out of 43 participants voted for both Happy and sad. They agreed with, "Happy coz shit posters are not just posting for rank up and Sad coz  not all the good posts are not merited, limited merit source etc.".

I used to think everyone especially low-ranks are against the merit system coz it's really harder for them to rank up but after this servery (still i need to see more data though), I fairly believe that merit system is doing what it was here to do for the forum in the first place. You can see people are focusing on writing good contents. You can not actually blame the merit system. The forum members are abusing it both intentionally and unintentionally. I think as the days go, we will start seeing better impacts of merit system.

Those who want a sig spamming job forum seem to be against it.
-Absolutely correct

...but it's good to have a research how does individuals interact with it.
- As the time goes we will automatically can figure out what to do. For the time being I think we are fine

JUST TRY ME!
I'm offering a portion of my signature space for signature campaign. If you want the space for your ICO campaign or any other advertisement then this post is for you. Please read the post carefully before initiating any contact with me.

What I have exceptional to offer that others don't?

Well first of all you may seeing this... I am just a member here.

Reality is - yes, I am a low ranked member, I wish I was a higher up member but I joined this forum on last mid December'2017. Then in around a month, they introduced the Merit system. After they introduced the Merit system I got banned for 14 days. The reason they said was spamming Ads and something like this. They have removed around over 50 posts (not sure but a guess) I made. I guess some of the higher ranked members were reporting my posts because they were not agreeing with my points on several topics about merit system, especially I guess post like this.

So, it caught the mods eyes and they provably gone through all my posts and removed which they thought were irrelevant. Sadly from all these removed post, I found there were a lot of post those were really not irrelevant. But hey! leave it, I'm in no war with anyone. I am just a guy doing things for my bread and butter.

Except having a higher ranked membership title I believe I have everything else which needed for a signature campaign. May be it's easier to think someone having higher rank (here) is able to write good quality (constructive) contents but it's not always true. Trust me, I have seen member with legendary rank does not know some even very basic common sense about Bitcoin.

I am not saying everyone has to know everything just trying to prove that having a lower rank does not mean that I know less.

MY BIG BOLD OFFER:

# 5  (or more if needed) constructive posts everyday. 5 Days a week means minimum 25/week which means 100/month (Minimum)
# Every week I will report your work by sending screenshots with links. This will save your time.

Why am I offering the space when everyone else is running after signature campaigns?

Simple, I am exceptional. I do respect everyone no offence please.

I am not in this forum to make money, my main goal is to hangout with the community. The forum itself is for the knowledge seekers and sharers not for earning money. But since there are ways for advertising so people are taking advantages to earn some money from the forum. Some doing really good and some are doing may be fine or just fine. It really depends on individuals level of skill. Money itself is a language and you need to know the language to earn it.

Honestly speaking, I don't bother about pennies nor for the promised tokens most of them which are not even real. Your project may be the best project ever exists but please be realistic no one knows the future and I am not a charity, no offence. If you want to use my space then you have to pay for it, simple business.

I am a Bitcoin holder. X web developer, student of new technology especially Blockchain. Cryptocurrency trading and ICO investing is my hobby. Social media marketing is my passion. Communication is my skill and I love sharing knowledge.

I was going through a really old post earlier. You all read it 100s times I guess. No big deal however, if you have not yet then I suggest you do. This post explains things are related to raking up your membership. Now a days we are some much concentrating on Merit that I am sure a lot of members especially newbies does not even know about other stuffs required to rank up.

Anyway, I was going through the comments. Since the original post was created on June 19, 2013 by theymos of-course, I was curious to see what is going on (present time) with the members who were active on that time. So I was really reading the old replies on the first few pages only. No doubt all these members are now Hero Member and Legendary. These same members with HUGE reputation were newbies, Jr.Member or Member like us once. I was fascinating, thinking 5 years from now someone like me will read my contents (if BCT exists of-course), I may exist or not that time.

In first few pages I really did not find anything special from all these comments. It's the same shit. Whenever you will bring something new you will see there are always two groups. One agree and one disagree. The agree group will tell you all the good things about why they agree and the other group will do the same but opposite to establish their own philosophy. It's in our genes. Oh yes, there are other group as well who will be always confuse about which side to take.

Suddenly my eyes caught up on these custom titles. "can into space", "aka snapsunny", Untrustworthy etc. I am not sure how many this kind of interesting custom titles do we have. I will appreciate, If you can help me providing any link to any post related to custom title (Thanks in advance). I just want to know all the titles we have here.

When I saw the title Untrustworthy but with the rank of Hero Member, Activity: 588, Merit: 500, Posts: 6512, I stopped and wanted to see who is this user. I went to his profile and then went to his "last posts of this person" to figure out if he is still an active member or not. The last post he made was on August 13, 2013, 11:42:56 AM

Matthew N. Wright is a Hero member. The user was a genius in my opinion. He knew that things were not working for him on this forum. His last few lines were

P.s. because theymos doesn't appreciate freedom of speech, I'm technically banned and can't respond to any threads (including this one) until dear leader decides I am now "safe" to let back in (safe meaning I won't bring up the hypocrisy of letting Garr225 scam because they are friends and give me a tag, all while saying he doesn't give tags anymore as an excuse for not giving one to avalon, BFL, Garr255, etc. Hahahaha. Wow.)

So, eventually he was kicked off from the forum (I guess). But the guy had his valid points and guts. Some of his statements were 100% logical.

If you choose to trust someone elses broadcast, then you are agreeing to listen to their ramblings (reverse ignore).

If you choose to trust someone for transactions, you are choosing to increase their reputation based on your reputation.

Nothing gets shoved in without notice by a moderator who invested into someone. No one gets secretly "whitelisted".
- These are some really big bold statements and really valid points.

I really did not have the luck to know the guy but after reading few of his posts what I realised was... He wanted to make this forum a better place, a place without depending on others' trust (i guess), a decentralised place I really think.

It needs to be tested and tried, but ask yourself the same question about the bitcoin blockchain. If there were something "illegal" there, how would it be "removed"? It doesn't need to, just ignored, which is the default action. When it comes to data and encryption, when no one can see it, it effectively doesn't exist. Since the server would hold no encrypted keys, complying with any and all demands of local law enforcement (hint: not a US hosted site) would still not help them do anything about the content.

Should I say the forum is unfortunate or the guy himself is unfortunate or we are unfortunate?  Roll Eyes

I think we are fortunate that the forum still exists. Thanks to theymos and others who are giving their everything to make it a better place.

(Disclaimer: I could be really wrong about everything about him, I tried to find him on any other social media or on youtube but all the links those I went through were outdated)
