3141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to catch new PoW coin release on: March 16, 2022, 12:31:24 PM
I missed the release of the Alephium coin which was released some time ago and since then I've been curious about how to somehow get notified if a new PoW coin is out, how do you go about this?
This coin is missed by many miners because I have no desire to mine a coin that cannot be sold. Every month 50-100 coins can appear, and 99% of them will be scam. You better think about how you will analyze it.
3142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best power supply that don't take extra watts from wall on: March 16, 2022, 12:13:21 PM
Is it true that some power supply for PC takes more watts from the wall due to poorly built? If yes then how can one detect this power supply when shopping for one? Any identification?
If energy saving is very important to you, then buy power supplies with a big warranty, for example, 7-10 years. They are assembled from high-quality components, for example, the cosair 1000 series. Do not overpay for the titanium version, gold and platinum are very good power supplies.

Which GPU is best for minning now a days?
Don't buy 3800 and 3900 video cards if you are a beginner. But best of all, wait 3 months for news about the end of ethereum mining. If this happens, then the price of video cards will begin to fall sharply.
3144  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Weird shut down before mining on: March 16, 2022, 12:06:59 PM
I'm having a funny issue with my rig, every time turn on the rig it will load hiveOS list the graphic cards like it wants to start mining but will shut down and reboot itself and start working normal, single shut down before mining starts what's causing this?
I didn’t understand how many seconds does the mining farm reboot after turning it on?
I would try to turn on the mining farm with only 1 video card, because it looks like a problem with the power supply. But it can be any inconspicuous thing that is not immediately visible. Check the cables and pins on the motherboard
3145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: I hate risers and I want to stop using them on: March 16, 2022, 12:02:22 PM
I think risers have too much problems, you use them for a week then one GPU go offline, you set it well again the next few days the same thing happen and some times it can work perfectly for a month, aren't there any motherboard with 16x slots only?.
I have been using raisers for over 5 years. Perhaps you bought low-quality raisers. Better try other models of raisers. In your case, additional costs will be required for the purchase of new motherboards and the possible replacement of power supplies due to the lack of the necessary connectors.
3146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Server cases vs open air frames on: March 13, 2022, 10:48:26 AM
I like server cases because they are more protective from dusts and mistakes from people around you (family).. I always hated them until a friend build his miners with server cases and opened one for me to take a look inside, the GPUs are almost dust free compare to mine that's open air frame.
It's not a problem. Onin once a year you take the farm outside and blow it with a special compressor from aliexpress, which costs $20. Cleaning filters on server cases is a big problem. But you will not be able to install hot RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics cards in open cases, because there will be problems with lowering the hashrate.

False, i have 3080 Ti rigs working perfect on open cases, If you want use a octominer for 3090 or 3080 ti you waste a lot of space becuase you need a octominer x12 for only 6 cards, the space is too little inside and even with the fans working as ASICMINERS (with the high sound) they cant cool the cards, thats why you need put max 6 cards...
Ok, how do you cool your graphics cards in the summer? Even if you install video cards at a distance of 20 centimeters from each other in an open case, you will still have problems with overheating. Therefore, I will not believe that you do not use additional cooling.

Almost all open air rigs have fans that push the air to the front... what you do with that hot air is your design. I have 6 exaust 12 inch inline fans AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S12 to puch the air outside for example.
Very expensive solution
https://www.acinfinity.com/hvac-home-ventilation/inline-duct-fan-systems/cloudline-s12-quiet-inline-duct-fan-system-with-speed-controller-12-inch/
That's why I don't like 3090 or 3080 series

Ok, how do you cool your graphics cards in the summer?

Less mechanical assistance is required with open air rigs in a well ventilated room.
A simple box fan works great.
A well-ventilated room is not enough for my comrades in the summer, some video cards still overheat. I look for other people's experience, and for 3090 or 3080 series miners try to buy closed cases, because it's cheaper than doing good ventilation

3147  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Great price for rx580 on: March 13, 2022, 10:37:39 AM
I did my own research which says that rx580 use 120watt from the wall, this is high power consumption just for 30MH, use that money to buy p106-100, gtx1060, gtx1660, these are the lowest cards that you can find your same price as rx580 and they consume less power.
p106-100, gtx1060 consume 90-100 watts at a hash rate of 23-25 megahash. The closer to 25 megahash, the more power limit you need to set. p106-100 is a very old video card for mining. The GTX 1660 Super and GTX 1660 Ti give 27-29 megahash at 90 watts, but the GTX 1660 will give you the same 23-25 megahash.

Is there any old ASIc miner either for BTC, Litecoin or other that's still profitable today? The ones I saw are only good for those that have free electricity, I'm asking on behalf of a friend who seems to have interest in ASICS over GPUs, believe me I've tried talking him out of ASICS.
When people ask me about mining, I suggest everyone learn how to use the miner's calculator.
Introduce your friend to this data.

If he wants to try mining as a hobby, then let him buy Antminer S9. This is the most maintainable ASIC.

find your motherboard here and read reviews about it
in appearance, this motherboard does not differ much from the old versions of 8 GPU
3151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Great price for rx580 on: March 12, 2022, 02:01:51 PM
Can you buy rx580 for 340$ today?

Even if it is for 8 GB card that can mine Ethereum it is still more power hungry than new generations of cards but if you have really cheap electricity like less than 0.03 Usd/kwatt then by all means in my personal opinion is a good buy.
In every other condition it is not.

If you happen that you have that cheap electricity like less than 0.03 Usd/kwatt buying three such cards for 1000 USD gives you like 93-96 Mhsh and it becomes a good buy.
And what will he mine after the ethereum stops being mined?
On these video cards, you can effectively mine Ethereum Classic, and the rest of the algorithms will lose to new video cards. If the POS testnet gives serious errors, then Ethereum mining will have to be done.
3152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How is that laptop mining journey so far? on: March 11, 2022, 08:45:13 AM
A colleague of mine has an HP Omen laptop with 1660 ti and is mining since June or July 2021 I don't remember exactly when he got it but it is running fine so far by mining Ethereum, also this card is not one of those Rtx 3080 that can get heat pretty quick.I don't see any degradation right now to his laptop,it still looks like brand new when he get it at work.He also mines with his CPU Ryzen 5 some Raptoreums and everything is running fine so far,the laptop has three years warranty so no problems. He bought it at an expensive price though near 1500 EUR but he doesn't mine with it 24 hours of the day,for 24 hours mining laptops are a really bad choice.
How do you determine the state of the laptop? Of course, the external condition will be ideal, because no one has used it, but we have experience that in the first year 10-30% of laptops that are used in mining break down. Of course, it is beneficial for him if the laptop breaks, because the retailer will be replaced with an analogue, the money will be returned, or the motherboard will be changed to a new one.

I work as a System Engineer,I determine the state of the laptop by seeing how it performs,is it the same speed of processing as it was in the first days of purchase (despite Windows piling up lots of garbage files),is the cooling system the same effective as it was the first day and these two things which for me say a lot about the condition of the device I consider it to be like a brand new laptop.I agree if it happens that the laptop fails I guess the warranty covers any of the option above.
I can determine the condition of the laptop if I do its service or repair.
Before selling before selling the laptop, the cooling system is changed or the fan bearings are lubricated, the factory operating system is installed and the laptop will look very good.
And such laptops after mining will soon be sold a lot. It is sad.
3153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Tempting but maybe better offer in next few months? on: March 11, 2022, 08:25:25 AM
Someone wants to sell me 12 pieces of P106-100 for 200$ each and I find this to be tempting because that card can achieve 23MH on ETH, two of those is 46MH for 400$ and I'm running solar panels, maybe I should just wait? I also remember that a 1060 GPU costs 120$ in 2019, will you wait or take this offer?
23 Mx, analogue in terms of profit.
https://whattomine.com/gpus/37-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660?cost=0.1
With free electricity for 100 days, you will earn about $80. Perhaps Ethereum will still be mined.
I'm so, these are very old second-hand video cards 4-5 years old. I wouldn't buy at $200, I'd trade up to $150-$170 a piece if buying in bulk.

ive got an opportunity to buy asics S9k 14T for $650us, the miners are used, 6months according to the seller, is there a chance to see the real used time? also i bought some gpus to build mi own rig, do you think is more profitable to buy 1 ASIC for the price before told, or should i keep the gpus for the same price, 3060ti new ($600 us each). Im from argentina so the electricity price is not a problem. Im a noob in this so any response is welcome, in fact thats why im looking to buy the asic cause i only have to plug it in and configure it. If i go with the gpus id have to build it from the beginning.
Now you don’t need to buy a video card, because the payback period is very long and Ethereum has launched the last tesnet. ASIC S9k 14T is very old and has not been produced for a long time.
Asik is much easier to set up and start mining, but it is very noisy and this is a problem. If increased noise and high energy consumption are not a problem for you, then compare the prices of more modern ASICs.
I understand that you can buy 10 used S9k 14T ASICs and get 140 TH ASICs with 16 kW power consumption for $6500 or 1 new modern 140 TH ASICs for $15000-20000 with 4 kW power consumption.
For the first option, you should have almost free electricity Smiley

Why do you even post responses when its clear you have no idea what you are talking about.  Depending on the brand and quality, I think its probably a fair assessment to say 10-30% of laptops have issues within 5 years, regardless of mining.  Buy a 3+ year warranty, problem solved.
I am a certified System engineer and have repaired thousands of computers and laptops. Do you think that you are the most cunning?
If we talk about ordinary buyers, then after 2 years people forget about insurance and official guarantees, lose documents and, according to the law of my country, the service center has up to 45 years to solve the problem. So 60-80% of people who have a warranty do not want to wait 45 days and ask to have their laptop repaired quickly if possible. People do not want to give laptops with personal information on the hard drive to the service center, and the official service center accepts only a complete laptop.
If you are a cunning miner and bought 5 laptops in a store with 1 account, then you may be denied a refund or replacement of equipment, because the law gives privileges to ordinary buyers who use laptops for personal needs, not for business or mining. You will be suing for at least 6 months.
Official service centers are not available in all cities, and the repair period may require more than 45 days.
If in your country the repair service works faster, that’s good, but in my country it’s more profitable for me not to buy additional guarantees, but to mine on a laptop for 12 months, and then service it myself or pay a private master for a quick repair.

Is this a good price when the ethereum team launched the final testnet about 5 days ago?
I think this is a very bad price, and I'm sure that this is not the price of a new video card, because these video chips are not manufactured.
3158  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Stratu.ms good for mining? on: March 10, 2022, 12:33:40 PM
I came across this website called  https://stratu.ms/ that claimed to offer speed to slow internet when mining coins like ETH and few others, normally my internet speed when mining is 120MS but after testing this website speed I'm seeing 20MS for few locations available, anyone have anything to say about this website?.
For all miners who use 3-4G Internet, the latency is from 100 to 500 MS. This is enough for good mining and you do not need additional paid services for mining. Therefore, do not create additional problems for yourself in mining.
3159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: All-in-one desktop computer can do a thing? on: March 10, 2022, 12:26:35 PM
Integrated GPUs have advantage of using lower power consumption but coins can't be mined with them anymore because of high difficulty, I remember in 2010 where you can mine BTC with pentium4 CPU but this days the chances are limited, a discrete GPU is better.

Have you looked at the iGPU information of this laptop?
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-1135G7-Processor-Benchmarks-and-Specs.467754.0.html
The iGPU's gaming performance is close to what a GeForce MX250 has in store;
I think we are discussing CPU mining on this laptop.
