As per previously, you'll have to ssh into and copy the binary to your device to run it. http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminerBugfix update to 3.7.1. Same download location. I am not investing in BTC. I am investing in any way to make dollars. I have many investments. This one happens to have something to do with BTC but what it does is generate dollars.
Wow OK now I think I understand why some people are paying a premium for miners that have no way of having positive BTC ROI. Any time you "invest" you are trading the value of one thing (USD) for the value of another thing (BTC via mining) with the prediction that the second thing (BTC) will increase relatively (to USD) in value over time. So when you buy a miner you are investing your USD into a predicted amount of BTC you will receive in a future time period. If you don't agree with this basic fact then there's no point in continuing the dialog. Hang on did you buy a KNC miner? It was priced in US Dollars, not BTC. If you paid in BTC you paid for the dollar value of the BTC at the time of purchase. If you decide to invest your dollars in something that generates BTC you can decide whether that generated income is valuable to you in BTC or in the dollar value of that BTC. Thats why if you asked for a refund you wouldn't get the refund in the same amount of BTC you converted to pay for it, you would get the refund in the current number of BTC that equals the amount you paid for the device. I'm investing my cash (because I paid cash, not BTC or BTC converted into cash) in a machine that will create more cash than I invested. I only care about the BTC part of it from a) a conversion medium for cash, and b) a technical whimsy* *I like technical stuff, in fact I have more money invested in Protein folding research machines than I do in bitcoin machines, and they have zero ROI I only care about the BTC generated by my miner in as much as its value relative to the fiat I can convert it into eventually.
|
|
|
Of course its about the $ value How would you feel about ROI on miner hardware if the reverse was true? If you had paid 100 BTC for a miner when BTC was worth $100 You mined 101 BTC but BTC value dropped to $50 Would you say you have made a ROI? I'd say not. Some people don't find trading BTC a satisfying vocation or even pasttime. Some people like to mine. As far as hobbies go if my Jupiter makes as much as it cost me in $ and then some then I am happy enough and fuck what the wife thinks, at least I'm not pissing it away in the pub People should have more respect for miners, for without them ROI or not there would be no BTC in the first place for people to trade. Let us have our fun without rubbing our noses in it.

|
Today marks the beginning of my positive ROI after I sold the proceed of 29 days of mining (59 BTC with 2 Jup). My wife cannot complain anymore about that investment she does not really trust or understand. You might have broken even in $ terms, but that misses the point of the machines, and is the fallacy that keeps people buying all these ASIC machines (and stops wives complaining ) You paid around 120BTC until it gives you that many back it's not a good investement If you insist on thinking in $, if you hadn't bought the machines you'd now have $14,000. I and many others didn't pay in BTC we paid in $ in which case its a moot point. The price for the machines is in $ its always been in $ it doesn't matter what currency you convert to create your $ its still $ in the end.

Anyone try the new Cklovas code?..
Running 3.7.2 with 0.96 firmware no problem
|
|
|
But if I check the update page it shows the correct FW. So what the heck?
please understand I could be wrong, I'm not working or programing for KNC so it's partly guesswork on my part. The version is probably just a variable stored in the Web code. Think about it if the link you get after upgrading the firmware isn't run, the way these rigs are setup is to reset alt of stuff on reboot. So the firmware update code that needs to be run against the system doesn't get run because you are using a different reboot method that doesn't run the commands before rebooting. However the bits of the update that don't require a reboot are copied over such as cgminer etc si they work fine. Your symptoms of worse performance when rebooting using the link are similar to mine. Always worse performance. So I kept going back to 0.96. But now im using the old firmware but the new cgminer and I am not getting the performance loss. So there must be a lot more being changed when you change the firmware than just updating the cgminer instance, and alot of those changes will be related to what happens when you click on the reboot link after you update the firmware.

From what I know of them, unless they have a component shortage they will be using this time to build the November batch. I expect they want to minimise the issues they had in the first run.

If i order today, can anyone tell me if I really have a chance to get a miner in November as it shows on the website ?? What about ROI ? Thx
Afaik you will get your miner in Nov but the latter you order it the later you get it. As for ROI its unlikely, but not impossible. It depends alot on how much hardware KNC releases before the end of the year + bitfury + BFL. Everyone else with 400Ghs+ products seems to be delayed till Dec/Jan

Bugfix update to 3.7.1. Same download location.
Awesome, thanks! I'm trying sticking with 0.96 with the latest cgminer binary and it seems to be going ok! What bus were fixed btw?

Two firmware updates for me so far. Didn't do that, bot even half of it. Not had a problem
1. DL the update 2. On the KNC miner interface click update and select that download and apply it. 3. Click restart cg miner in the KNC interface.
Nothng else at all. Checked it after in Putty, but all was fine. lol
So after you upload and apply the firmware, it returns to a screen that says restart miner, is that the link you clicked or did you go back to the home screen, then go the the "Mining" and click on "Restart CGMiner" on that page?

8. I never click on reboot, just shut down the miner, wait a minute
do you mean just executing reboot cmd? when u click reboot on the web interface reboot.safe will be executed instead #!/bin/sh i2cset -y 1 0x24 0xb 0x6b i2cset -y 1 0x24 0x16 0 reboot
i really don't know which kind of settings i2cset cmds are performing, but my gut says that they should be useful, what do you think? Yes I would have thought if you don't reboot after the firmware upgrade then the firmware isn't actually installed, yes maybe cgminer gets updated but nothing else. Sorry guys but I'm not a linux expert.... There's a link after the upgrade proces "click to reboot" I've tried it a few times but I'm alwas had bad hasrates. So after the upgrade I don't click it just shut down the power then turn it back on... Exactly, so effectively as you are not running the proper reboot command it might not be updating the firmware, probably a good thing in your case, you are just getting the updated miner. Hmm.. I think I might try it

I take it I don't need to run enablecores if I don't have any cores disabled (in bertmod)?
The only time I had to run enablecores was when I upgraded to 0.98 and cgminer kept turning cores on and off all the time until I dropped down to 450GH/s
The reason why I went back to 0.96 is that a) it gave me 555+Gh/s steady again and b) my cores stay enabled all the time.
Dunno if maybe the higher voltage of the later firmwares cause problems with my Jupiter or if its that cgminer is too eager to disable stuff.
Whenever I run bertmod on my Jupiter it shows all cores enabled and steady voltage and watts across all VRM's
I'll try 0.98.1, I always try the latest

Anyone out there with a 4 VRM Day 2 order? Just curious what firmware are you running?
0.96

Congrats Phoenix! I am at USD break even in one more day! I've made 32 BTC with my jup. One more month(ish) to break even in BTC terms using the exponential difficulty estimates I have been using.
Edit - Looks like I am USD break even today based on coinbase price.
chrono, when did you receive your miner? October 4th chrono, I suppose your miner minted @530-550 since the beginning right? Yes - Around 520 gh/s from the start. I got really lucky with a unit with around 4 bad cores. I wonder if those that had an easier transport had less hardware issues? I picked mine up in Sweden and flew home with it, and yes although it did go in the hold and suffer the horrors of Norway Air baggage handling and had all 4 fans fall off, it may have had less of a traumatic journey than via UPS/DHL van. Because mine has been happy on .96 hashing at 555Gh/s with zero bad cores according to:

sorry i forgot to factor in that i have a few avalon minis mining too, i cant figure out how to see what the jupiter mined alone since im all in the same account on btcguild.
You can create separate workers on the same account with BTC Guild or many of the big pools. Just click on Workers once you are logged in.

0.98.1 any time now... hoping for another "1.21 GigaWatts..." as Doc Brown would say... I've had entirely too much coffee for it to be 430am...... oops...lol You need a klaxon and rotating orange light every time you get a payout.

What could be better than getting up @ 3am to see how much you made during the night? I love this shizzle! Gox @ 227, XBT @ 212.... Just reached 50% return, day 19 But according to Croppo, they aren't worth a dime..... I better just give up then.... Hahahahahaha
Can I hate you now? :p Don't hate, just envy that he is 50% towards ROI. I wish I can say the same thing I'm "getting there" got mine (sic) on the 16th Oct
