3182  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 24, 2020, 11:38:31 PM
I wouldn't say the fixture is lying, it is doing its job, which can't be perfect all the time, I suppose the solder balls you found around the chip came from "overdosing" by bitmain staff/robots, after being put under heat that extra solder has to go somewhere when it goes outside of where it has to be it will short the hash board, it probably does something to the component that reads the temp-sensor and that could explain why both the fixture tool and the miner kernel log mention the temp-sensor when sensors are actually good, and since temp-sensors are essentials the miner won't start thinking that all 4 sensors are bad, these are some terrible quality gears.

I am glad you managed to fix some of the hash boards, it would have been a lot better if you could take some photos, also share how did you manage to remove that solder without damaging anything else.
3183  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Two Antminer S17 problems on: November 24, 2020, 10:35:10 AM
The heatsink does NOT have to come off to be declared "bad", if it's not perfectly connected then it won't work, in most cases, it's not something you see with your bare eyes.

You need to check for "CLK-CO-RI-BO-RST" points, Zeusbtc has fix manuals for most of the 17 series, what model are you having issues with?
3184  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 24, 2020, 10:06:31 AM
Nothing is permanent, that arctic adhesive won't hold against a hammer or a heat gun direct to that heatsink, the same thing applies to any other solder you might use.

What matters in your kernel log is only these 4 lines:

Code:
1970-01-01 00:01:52 temperature.c:744:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 0, sensor = 0, chip = 14, reg = 0

1970-01-01 00:01:54 temperature.c:744:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 0, sensor = 1, chip = 10, reg = 1

1970-01-01 00:01:54 temperature.c:744:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 0, sensor = 2, chip = 54, reg = 0

1970-01-01 00:01:55 temperature.c:744:get_temp_info: read temp sensor failed: chain = 0, sensor = 3, chip = 50, reg = 0

The kernel log can be a bit confusing, it isn't saying that those 4 chips are bad, it's only trying to tell you that the temp sensor next to those 4 chips is bad, each board has temp sensors located near the chips mentioned 10,14,50 and 54 something like this:

But this isn't even accurate either, because it's unlikely that 4 temp sensors would die, and the real actual cause must be one of two.

1- If all temp sensors across 3 hash boards (total of 12 temp sensors) show "failed" then the problem is the PSU
2- If one hash boards temp sensors show "failed" then one or more heatsink/chip isn't in 100% contact and needs replacement, and more often than not the first chip (chip 0) is the bad one

notice that, the PSU theory still stands even if 1 hash board is having a hard time reading the temp sensor, it's hard to explain but take it as is.

my GPU is easily fast enough to work out a 4 leading zero solution in the 20min that there are before difficulty is set down to 1.
So I was thinking I can wait until this drop happend, and then submit my solution block.

IIRC you need to include the last block (the one that has 20+ mins timestamp) in your mined block, so you can't pre-mine a block, you can start trying when difficulty is 1 but not prior to that, the drop will only happen if a block isn't found in 20 mins, the difficulty will drop to 1 for 2016 blocks and I suppose that happens quite too often because miners could be mining blocks in the future by adding 20 mins to their node timestamp just to cause a difficulty drop, but there are only 2016 blocks is only 1 block to be mined and some people abuse the testnet with S9s, so there is no guarantee that you will manage to hit a block before the difficulty gets adjusted again, but if your hashrate is good enough to solve a block with 1 diff in a few mins, then I can't see why not!

Quote
My main problem of understanding is how the difficulty can drop from a few hundret thousends to 1, but the bits from a freshly made getblocktemplate call (after the drop in difficulty is validated with getmininginfo) is still the same.

It's probably because the latter gets you the difficulty of the last block submitted while the former returns the "current/next block" difficulty.
3186  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SOLVED!] MyCryptoMixer.com didn't scam $7000 - please Oppose Flag on: November 23, 2020, 11:29:15 PM
Like I said the first time, sometimes it is good to wait before supporting or opposing flags.

It's wise to wait before opposing, but it's the exact opposite for supporting a flag (the same thing applies to leaving negative feedback).

Keep in mind that it's pretty easy to remove feedback and flags but it's impossible to undo any damage caused by "waiting", what happened with this user is a rare thing, 99% of these accusations end up badly, and thus DT members should IMO rush to warn other members as soon as a simple proof has been presented by the victim.

*I withdrew my support for the flag, glad that artsidim got his money back.
3187  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 23, 2020, 11:01:35 PM
I am not really an expert in this field, but why would you use flux? it's not like you are soldering the chip on the hash board, maybe you could use flux to clean the heatsink before gluing it on the chip but I don't think you need to put anything else besides the thermal adhesive, by the way, here is a slightly different way of doing it > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=378FPjkHQJc.
3188  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 23, 2020, 09:39:57 PM
You can use something like https://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Silver-Premium-Adhesive-ASTA-7G/dp/B0087X7262, or use the black glue from the same website you got the tool, adding more solder to the existing isn't a good idea, you should clean the chip's surface and then start fresh, ensure that the amount of solder paste is equally even across the whole chip.

Watch this video https://youtu.be/5WH7g61d90w, it's helpful.
3189  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 23, 2020, 05:20:14 PM
Here here is the log from the test fixture.
http://servervideos.hopto.org/error.jpg

I am not familiar with the fixture tool but looks like it is telling you that chip no 50 is bad, no?

Anyway you should contact zeusbtc and ask for the voltage reference range, each domain (group of chips) has its own normal voltage values, you just need a volt-meter and the reference table.
3190  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 22, 2020, 11:17:49 PM
I have all the tools to fix the problem. Solder, heat gun, tin, watt meter, oscilloscope, psu, extra chips and so on. I just dont know which chip is at fault. What are the ways to find that bad connection? Thank you.

You will need a fixture tool like this one , what does tool does is tell you where was the signal interrupted, and then to double-check you could measure the voltage and/or resistance of that chip, keep in mind that in the event of all 3 hash boards throwing that temp-sensor error then the problem is most likely a bad PSU.

3192  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Supersonic cleaning hashcards on: November 21, 2020, 11:55:39 PM
You sure can, but why would you do that? I don't see any economical benefit in doing this, those ultrasonic cleaners suck a whole ton of power and distilled water isn't that cheap, I mean if your hash boards got to the point where a normal air dusting or a brush (in the worst case) can't make them clean enough to operate then they are probably outdated anyway, also there isn't really any hidden places where a brush can't reach, there is no oil or any of that hard-to-remove to stains that require ultrasonic cleaner, plus the risk of removing glued parts as NFW mentioned.
3193  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Whatsminer M20s Keeps rebooting on: November 21, 2020, 11:38:51 PM
Why would you suspect a network-related issue then? the problem you are describing seems pretty much like a PSU issue, it's likely that the PSU gets hot, it goes to protection mode for a while then come back on, try to open it, and give it a good dusting.

Also, this could be a temp-related issue, you would need to clean this miner, I would set the fans to 100% just to make sure that high temps are not causing the issue, but as far as the network related stuff, if you are using DHCP try to use a static IP for this miner, and if you are using a static DHCP change it to static.

On a side but related note: Binance pool sucks, you should be really careful and watch your earnings closely while you mine to that pool.
3194  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Whatsminer M20s Keeps rebooting on: November 21, 2020, 10:09:11 PM
ps: I removed the pool link and my workername + worker password

Why would you do that? this is probably why you getting the below error in the log

Fri Jan  2 08:00:05 1970 user.err cgminer[2177]: ErrorCode[2010]: All pools disabled for 2s, please check the network or pools configure.

There does not seem to be any problem with your networking setting and your miner is getting an IP from the dhcp table

Fri Jan  2 08:00:05 1970 daemon.notice netifd: lan (2319): Lease of 192.168.0.111 obtained, lease time 7200

Please use these pool details and test

stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org:3333

Worker:

Code:

Password:

Code:

Use your own bitcoin address in the worker, that one I put here is on Ck's topic first page.

After filling in the pool details, the kernel log might and most likely will be different and we could figure something out.
3195  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please Help ANTMINER S9 newbie TROUBLESHOOT! Red flash on start. NO LIGHTS! on: November 21, 2020, 09:16:25 PM
When the fans don't work, the miner won't initialize and that would result to so many weird errors, there could be other problems but without fixing the fan first - there is nothing you can do.

if 1 fan spins it will cause the other fan to spin even if the latter was dead, if you unplug the good fan, you will notice that the dead one will stop spinning.

Can i get a fan testing kit?

What kit do you need? just follow the 4 pin wire from the fan to the control board, you will find fan5 and fan4, the one attached to fan5 is the bad one (if the wires haven't been tampered with, fan5 is the exhaust (rear) fan), the best way to confirm this is by switching the wires, fan5 goes to fan4 and vice versa.

Results will be

1- Fan5 is good, fan 4 is bad > (original fan 5 is bad ) which is the most likely scenario
2- Fan4 is good fan 5 is bad > (fan is good, something else is bad) this is very less likely to happen.

also notice that your control board might have fan5 and fan6 instead of fan4 and fan5, it doesn't really matter.
on: November 20, 2020, 11:54:52 PM

3198  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Miner Full Control Unlock All Settings on: November 20, 2020, 06:46:21 PM
it worked fine for 11 days, after that i discovered that the control board was fried (Not showing up on network anymore, i tried resetting but looks like a hardware problem), i replaced it with another one i had same thing happened after 2 days

With those numbers, you were probably pushing the boundaries, I appreciate your honesty and I sent you merit for that, I would also suggest that for the sake of integrity that once and if you manage to get this thing to work use a better watt-meter, something like a kill a watt, or at least prove that the clamp isn't tempered with, maybe by measure the amps on a known electrical appliance using the same amp clamp in the same video.

Roll Eyes.

That would be a very handy feature, looking at their Demo version the scheduled tasks seem to be limited and don't include what you are asking for, however, with all the great work done with this tool I don't think they will have a hard time implementing such a simple feature, the problem for them would be the need to perform the configuration from the web browser since all these 17/19 series gears are pretty locked, other than that it's really a straight forward function.
