I was in awe reading this book in 2015.
Albeit, only those with ~3000 btc could be currently called truly 'sovereign individuals' as described in the book
the rest of us could aspire to become in due course
The sad part is that Bezos, Musk, etc already are SI, but most of us are not there yet.
In fact, Musk has displayed independence of a 'sovereign individual' in his tussle with SEC and his county (i mean where tesla factory is) health commish.
They did not know what they were dealing with, lol.

Made a transaction earlier, 116 sats per byte fee. This was around 11:00am, still waiting for a confirmation nearly 7 hours later.

I’ve accelerated it with Via Bitcoin free accelerator but fucking hell.....7 hours.

I never bother anymore, unless it is Sat or Sun or if it is an exchange (outgoing).

I have given away more then 10 btc in difficulty prediction contests.

wow, @philipma1957 gave away more than the bottom 98% of btc accounts are worth (per account).
Applause.

one point...bitcoin owes us nothing...so, before you imagine spending your largesse, please remember this and don't get mad at the setbacks.
That said, the chart from May 2019-Aug 2020 is one of the most bizarre charts I have ever seen.
Perhaps, someone is trying to shake most of the crowd loose.

<...>
Check out that pesky DXY.

DXY is utterly overvalued as an indicator of the outright "shit power" level of the USD, as it is comparing  USD shitcoin vs EUR shitcoin, JPY shitcoin and CHF not so shitcoin.... So it is always deeply rotten indicator.
I start pricing everything vs XAU, try plotting SPX priced in XAU... that is a suprise...

in a big picture, yes, but if i want to buy something outside of US, it matters.
DXY moves are very fast now.

12345.67 would have been better, lol, hence the "8" and not "10", I guess.

Fifteen buys of the size of MicroStrategy's would consume the total annual mining production.

#justsayin'

wow. what percentage of all US $billion companies would that be?

the list of 500 largest public companies ends with $3.2 bil market cap, so maybe 600-700 public and 489 private (unicorns), total of about 1000,
so 15 companies would be about 1.5%.

Too the moon retards.

Actually, that is an old term...the new one is Chad or, more specifically, degen Chad(s).
Someone was even saying, self deprecatingly, that Defi actually stands for degenFi.
Lots of memes and "humor" in that land.
..I don't know where it will all end up, probably in the dustbin of history with a small chance of partial success.

funny, I actually bought a bit of btc today and none of defi "stuff'..it all seems SO flaky.

OT: City (Sterling) did not score into the empty net from 6-8 feet.

Bayern/City would be probably more interesting than Bayern/Lyon, but who knows.

Life was giving me a hint at the grocery store

went over my head..oh well
as the proverbial saying (from a hairdresser) goes "you can't do them all".

Is that the WO thread when BTC hits 200k?

I guess, it is, at least it was advertised  Grin

What does it means when even Warren Buffet shots legacy fiat financials and get long Gold(sir something really close to)?

Berkshire reduces Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, Goldman stakes; adds Barrick Gold

Quote

Aug 14 (Reuters) - Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc BRKa.N said on Friday it has reduced its investments in some of the largest U.S. banks, lowering its stakes in Wells Fargo & Co WFC.N and JPMorgan Chase & Co JPM.N and eliminating a stake in Goldman Sachs Group Inc GS.N

In a regulatory filing detailing its U.S.-listed investments as of March 31, Berkshire also disclosed a new 20.9 million share investment in Toronto-based Barrick Gold Corp ABX.TO, one of the world's largest mining companies

If warren Buffet want to buy Gold, it’s time to get your seatbelt fastened.

[insert “it’s happening.gif” here]
My body is ready.

That's a weird move from WB.
I guess they did not let him do his favorite deals (8-10% coupon on some preferrds), so he got cranky.
Still, his Wells Fargo stake is 6bil vs goldmimner (GOLD) 600mil.
However, he is known to take and exit positions in chunks.

Love the enthusiasm, but, boy, it is like 1998 in Internet stocks all over again.

Yes, or like 1927. Great waves in the making with dangerous undercurrents.

right decade wrong year.

1920 or 1921 just the beginning of the ramp up.

Spanish Flu 1918-1919
roaring 20's
big ass crash 1929

Covid-19    2019-2020 we are leaving here

roaring 20's going here

big ass crash 2027-2029? not here for  3-6 years maybe 5-9 years off

I looked at those charts:
https://www.macrotrends.net/1319/dow-jones-100-year-historical-chart

It looks like in 1918-1919 it took 3 years to virus-related dip and recovery. We did it in 6 mo in 2020. Unless we re-dip, it seems that we are in about 1922, relatively speaking.
If the "acceleration" factor of about X6 will hold, we will be in 1929-ish scenario in 1.2 years, give or take, so fall of 2021, which is very nicely aligns with the predicted seasonal peak in btc.

....

So I clicked on that you tube link and got served up an ad
of some random Vitalic interview embedded in a giant splash screen....

ETH HALVING 10,000 ETH GIVEAWAY!
SEND 5 ETH AND GET 10 ETH SENT BACK INSTANTLY!!
SEND 10 ETH.... etc etc etc....
You would think You Tube would be on top of this repeating scam-the-noob-suckers nonsense and nuke it immediately.
Apparently not.   SMH

well, you probably don't have ABP or ublock origin.
No ads for me, just rants  Grin
I am not FOMOing in, but I have to say, I liked it a bit more when btc was less "linear"

You need to be using your brain irrationally!! The starting point of this market is that people want to do something with their assets.

@Coindesk
JUST IN: @coinbase will offer bitcoin-backed cash loans to select U.S. customers, beginning this fall.

@Nate_DiCamillo reports
https://t.co/pE9YP0jZNL

Thanks...

and..told ya, they want you to lend your btc out and/or borrow against it, then, once it dips, collect your btc under some pretense such as 'you have exceeded your collateral limits, so the loan had to be liquidated'. Basically, don't do it.
