Every coin has it's place in the grand scheme of things. It may be that some alt-coins have fallen by the wayside either from intentional gutting, unsound initial premise or just as a result of the explosion of Bitcoin's value. Whatever the reason, they existed, we tried them and in some cases we got burned. At the end of the day we are sitting right on the edge of a new frontier and whilst I have chosen to invest in some coins that retrospectively I wish I had not it's all part of the journey, and frankly I'm just glad I am along for the ride Smiley

I doubt they are actually that motivated by the number of forum posts - more market cap and potential for growth Grin

Did you insert the cards while your system was powered on??

heh no - definitely not

Quote
That`s kinda weird

indeed, you will get no argument from me on that! - I went through the full seven stages when both my cards broke after the FW update

Denial - "naa its not broken, its just err.. sleeping" Undecided
Anger - "Damn e-bay tat, never worked in the first place! REFUND WARPATH" Angry
Bargaining - "If you boot now I will never firmware you again - promise" Lips sealed
Guilt - "...should never have spent all this money, tins of beans for tea for the next month..." Sad
Depression - "I give up - its broken and there is NOTHING I can do to fix it, I wonder how much copper water-blocks are going for..." Cry
Acceptance and Hope - "ok then. What if I try something crazy, (...3 hours later...) OH **** ITS WORKING! woohoo!" Grin

The process almost led me to me believe that the cards had become stuck and needed to be re-initialized via the driver re-install, but I doubt that's how they actually work...

It will not boot up, and i have tried different mobos and have
plenty of power for it. Even after a successful bios flash, it will not boot.

I have had exactly the same issue with my 2 5970s after a seemingly successful FW flash - The only thing that got me back up and running was to install yet another card (I used an Asus HD 5450 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express) and use that card to drive the monitor on its own. Then by adding the 5970s back one at a time (under Windows) full driver un-install and re-install for each card I eventually ended up with both cards working fine and was able to remove the 5450.

There may have been a few steps in that sequence that were not required, however it fixed the issue you are describing - and has worked ever since.

Hope that's useful

332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Extremecoin (EXC) - PLEASE UPGRADE VERSION 1.3 (Blockchain Download Fixed) on: November 05, 2013, 05:12:49 PM
ExtremeCoin has been stuck on block 17,051 for ages now Shocked - what gives?

Ridiculous  Roll Eyes - the second I report it it updates! question rescinded...
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / So whats the deal with ExtremeCoin? on: November 03, 2013, 01:57:41 PM
So not long now until the block reward for ExtremeCoin drops from two hundred to one, the difficulty has been bouncing more than the matress springs in a honeymoon suit and the price has risen a bit to ~0.000015.

The coin does not yet have a healthy list of services and or places to spend it however with the impending block reward apocolapse it will be interesting to see what happens to the price.

Any thoughts, speculations or insider knowledge anyone cares to share? Is it worth grabbing a few of the remaining blocks on the off chance the price might jump or would this be just hashing in the wind?

334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to read alt-coin difficulty on: October 31, 2013, 12:19:36 PM
Actually found a far better way to do it directly from Linux script using curl:

Code:
curl --silent --user user:pass --data-binary '{"jsonrpc": "1.0", "id":"curltest", "method": "getinfo", "params": [] }' -H 'content-type: text/plain;' http://<wallet_IP>:<rpc_port>/ | ./jq '.result | .difficulty')

The output is then piped to jq (a json parser) and the difficulty values extracted ^_^

Hope someone else finds that useful Smiley

Thanks all for your feedback, I got Java to parse the JSON from CoinChoose in the end  Cheesy

Cheers for the suggestions!

336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to read alt-coin difficulty on: October 29, 2013, 04:10:58 PM
Hi Everyone

I am looking for a quick way to allow a Linux script to get hold of the current network difficulty from a LiteCoin wallet - I have
looked at RPC calls et al but have as of yet not found a (semi-simple) solution.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Many thanks
