As much as I dislike Chinese sites... my final backup pool is ViaBTC - simply because they are PPS - so I get credit even if I'm only there for 5 minutes.  Slush use to be my backup pool, but their ramp up of an hour or three doesn't make it a great fit unless we have a long outage.  ViaBTC shares transaction fees as well.

The phone call was short. A Chinese lady with an accent saying she was calling from bitmain to inform me about the new S11 release and that i will receive an email with more information on specs and how to order before everyone else. Still waiting on the email.

Likely a scam, from the hacked list... but please, do tell if you actually get that e-mail!

Hey guys,

Where are you buying your PSU cables? I always buy from Ironbox in Amazon, the price of the cable is fine but the shipping prices are too high!

Any recommendation where to buy NEMA 6-20P to C13 cables for cheap?

I don't know, maybe I'm a bit of a cheapskate!  Grin

I bought 3' C13 to 6-15P (what matched my sockets) from Volex for $3.55 each.

Is there anymore bitmain coupons?

Lots of $100 ones floating around.  Just provide your Bitmain username.

With two more miners being delivered tomorrow so I thought I'd go ahead and make a box to help control both the heat and the sound.

I have a lid already made with hinges and a locking latch. Still yet to finish are the grates inside and holes to be drilled for power and network. I also will be putting together duct work to exhaust the heat outside. I have two inline duct fans being delivered tomorrow to push/pull air through the box.

Hope those inline duct fans are rated around 300cfm...  it would be best to match them to the combined flow rate of the miner fans.
326  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon pursuing 7nm technology on: May 20, 2018, 02:32:33 PM
The problem with mining as part of The Internet of Things isn't the chip (or controller or PSU, althought  that was a good point on leveraging those), its on the "paperwork" to register all those devices.  Will the owner of a Mining TV be able to select the pool they want to mine on?   Maybe.  Will the owner of a Mining Lightbulb be able to do so?  Less likely.  Will the manufacturer hard-code a mining pool into the devices that they run, and that by default profits them?  All S9s come that way...

Solo mining with each device (e.g. a giant Mining Lottery) comes with the wallet problem.  Will the manufacturer generate a wallet for every lightbulb sold and notify the owner when they win a block?  Sound expensive for them, since a million light bulbs might have 1 winner a year (unless somehow all governments shut down all mining farms and only allow lightbulb mining - and that won't happen).

So scratch Solo mining and go back to pool mining.  Again, the devices can be preset to mine for the manufacturer, stealing just a little bit of power from millions of customers, and give them the option to change the pool, set a payout address, etc.  How many people in the general population are going to go through that for a few pennies (or even dollars) a year in income?  Of course, the manufacturer has every incentive to make that as hard as possible, and require revealing as much personal information as they can legally ask (which doesn't seem very constrained today, given all the demograhic information requested out of most feedback surveys (think "win a sandwich if you answer a satisifcation survey" scams).
327  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How can I remotely manage my 60+ Antminers at a data center? on: May 20, 2018, 02:30:38 AM
Nope, just VPN so that your miners appear to be on the same subnet your Windows machine is on.  Your hosting provider should be able to help you.

Antpool use LIGHTNING NETWORK?

Not sure that makes sense.  Lightening is for off-chain transactions... and besides, Lightening isn't really production yet.

Ah, Awesome Miner is a windows program running under Windows OS.  So yeah, you need to have the base OS running if you expect the application to work.

Not per miner.  For my whole house.

I guess i should explain how the power bill works in Pennsylvania.  You are stuck with PPL to run the power to your house at .04 cents per Kwh and then you choose a provider and they range anywhere from .05 to .1 per Kwh.  A provider offered my 89.99 no matter how much power I use because I live very close to a ton of windmills.

What is your amperage limit?
332  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [145+PH] KanoPool kano.is 7 BTC giveaway 🐈 US,UK,JP,NYA,DE,SG on: May 15, 2018, 02:39:50 PM

How does this deal sound for electricity?  89.99 per month unlimited plus 4 cent per Kwh.

Bonus: It's all Wind power

Per miner?    That is horrible.  Rough math:  1.4kw/hr * 24 * 30 = 1008 KWH for $89.99 + $40.32 = $130.31 / 1008 = $0.129/kwh

If not, say its good for 100 miners:  $89.99 + $4032 = $4122 / 100800 = $0.041/kwh which is great, but somehow I doubt that $89.99 is good for 100 miners.  What does it cover?

@ccgllc

Does using a different AUC3 converter dongle in that chain make any difference?

Should state that I still consider myself a newbie with Avalons, only having had them a couple of months now.   So far, loss of the entire chain has been a one time thing.  If its consistent, I'll try swapping out the AUC3 (have a couple of spares and more coming next week).
334  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: May 12, 2018, 04:16:32 PM
I'm having a little weirdness in one of my strings of 841s:

It is configured with (3) AUC3 each with (5) 841s all running the latest MM code.

Over the past couple of weeks, occasionally I see an individual miner drop ~1/3rd of its hashrate.  Rebooting that unit clears that up.

This morning, I had an entire string behind an AUC3 drop 1/3rd of its hashrate.  Five boxes, all at once.  Rebooting cleared them, but does anybody know what might be going on?
335  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: May 12, 2018, 05:56:53 AM
So far I've only lost (1) APW3++ power supply - a fairly new one (weeks old).  Might have been to heat, might not, but the Avalons are hanging in there.  I am running with option:

--avalon8-voltage-level-offset -1

Which is reported to help with heat at the cost of a small bit of performance.

- -avalon8-voltage-level -1
—avalon8-voltage-level -2
—avalon8-voltage-level -3
—avalon8-voltage-level -4
- -avalon8-voltage-level -5

All work and allow safe running in a hot room.

They all drop hash and watts try -3 or -4

Yeah, we have had this conversation already.

Cryptouniverse -

Could you post the stats on the free powersupplies your currently shipping with 841s?  I noticed they are not socerer's, not that you claimed they were, and have (10) PCIE connections.

Mostly interested in their efficiency curves.
337  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptouniverse - Official Canaan Distributor on: May 12, 2018, 01:26:05 AM
Well, actually received (2) today from FedEx with no notification, and had FedEx call me for custom clearance for the other 4.  How weird is that?

Per the GLS website, the status has changed from "Delivered" to either "In transit" or "In warehouse".

I do most of my BTC to fiat trading at Gemini.  Not sure if they can help you or not, but might want to check them out.
