3201  Economy / Economics / Re: instant bank transfers thoughout whole europe next year reality. on: September 28, 2016, 02:32:53 PM

When sending money from my card to someone else's card (or even my own card in another bank) I enter the recipient's card info (card number, card holder's name and expiration year/month) into the respective fields in the web form of my account, and then this amount of money appears on the recipient's card balance in just a few minutes. I've done this numerous times, I'm even curious why you ask me this.

That's first time I hear of personal bank account providing such option. Which bank is that, if you don't mind me asking? Sounds really odd, as you're not supposed to share such details with private individuals (who don't comply with Data Protection Act etc), not to mention it's more complex than standard transfer.

3202  Other / Meta / Re: How many high rank members are still active today? on: September 28, 2016, 01:25:39 PM
I quite often spot legendary members I'm completely unfamiliar with. I suppose they're dropping in for the first time in a while. Then I never see them again.

Legendary rank means nothing nowadays. There's hundreds of them, including accounts registered for the sole purpose of participation in signature campaigns, they ranked up quite recently.
3203  Economy / Economics / Re: instant bank transfers thoughout whole europe next year reality. on: September 28, 2016, 01:09:57 PM

Wire transfers and card transactions are certainly not the same thing, but other than that your post is full of contradictions. You say that I can't use cards to send money directly to someone else. I don't quite understand what you mean by sending money directly...

How do you actually send money to other non-business individual (i.e. small loan to a friend) using debit/credit card? Afaik you could do this 'indirectly', by using 3rd party (paypal, Circle etc).

Quote
...and how it is different from wire transfers in this regard, but not only do I see the monies get credited to my bank account (linked to my card) within minutes, I can as well spend these sums immediately

Are you a merchant? If not, again, how do you accept credit card payments? If I wanted to pay you $10 with my credit card right now, how do I do it?

Quote
And then you yourself confirm that the recipient accepts payment instantly. How come? Yes, the transactions may get settled some time later, but what difference does it make for me? Further, what's the purpose of chargeback if I can spend the money received this way right away? In the past, I once used chargeback successfully myself, but it was initiated against a company, not an individual...

You don't claim chargeback from individuals, because individuals don't have facility to accept card payments.
From my experience, card txs are not always immediately recorded (already stated one extreme example of tx taking 2 weeks to show in statement). Usually it would change 'available funds' amount immediately (except for weekends) and appear in statement on a later date.
It doesn't matter if bank allows you to spend unsettled amounts. When customer successfully claims chargeback, they would still take that amount from your account, possibly putting you in debt, this won't happen with bank transfers.

Quote
Yet further, if merchants are paying for transactions made with payment cards (which may well be the case), why prices remain the same whether you pay with a bank card or through a wire transfer?

Prices of goods/services are the same, but many merchants, or even government institutions (ie DVLA), or airlines, would charge you extra for paying with card (mostly applicable for credit cards). Some won't accept credit cards at all, some would require minimum amount spent etc. Around here, many local newsagents would charge you ~Ł0.50 for paying debit card etc.
3204  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Bitcoin Mixing legal for US citizens? on: September 28, 2016, 09:31:53 AM
This is a gray area.  I am not sure why it would be illegal but I am not certain they have come as far as saying it is legal. The only legal implications come in is when you sell BTC for a profit and turn into USD.  Correct me if I am wrong.

Is buying a cheeseburger a legal grey area just because authorities haven't specifically stated that "buying cheeseburgers is legal"?

And no, you're not exempt from laws and taxes just because you haven't converted BTC to USD.
3205  Economy / Economics / Re: What kind of global issues can move bitcoin price? on: September 28, 2016, 09:15:55 AM
People in this thread say a lot that one of such issues is economic crisis. However, can't it be actually the opposite? I think that economic prosperity may as well move the price. If local currency becomes higher in price, wouldn't it cause more people using it and not Bitcoin? This way Bitcoin price will become lower.

What do you mean by 'local currency becomes higher in price'? Deflation? If so, that is most likely to happen during the crisis, not prosperity. Most governments aim to have a healthy rate of inflation.
3206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : now with added CLAMs : Play or Invest on: September 27, 2016, 08:59:02 PM
The reason for the difference is that the 2nd biggest holder is likely poloniex, and they don't stake their coins at all.

I never understood why they wouldn't stake and take a 10% cut of coins earned or something.

They make more money and they help decentralize the coin that they are risking their asses on by accepting deposits...

Somehow they're already making enough money that the extra 10% here just fell below their radar?  I dunno.  It is surprising that they wouldn't stake on reasonably valuable POS altcoins that they support.

Looking at their volume and trading fees, I could understand how 10% of staked clams is rather insignificant and not worth the effort. Plus, if they were to sell those earnings on their own exchange, it surely would cause some shitstorm and (valid) accusations of driving the price down.

Or maybe they just trying to avoid gaining >50%?

Do they stake any other PoS coins?
3207  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetKing.io - NEW DESIGN! Most trusted and popular crowdfunded Bitcoin Dice site on: September 27, 2016, 08:28:13 PM

Well done, site looks pretty good. But noticed that on the bottom of the site, just under Betking logo, phrase "The worlds most trusted Bitcoin Dice site" is black font on black background (slightly different shades), so almost invisible.
3208  Economy / Economics / Re: instant bank transfers thoughout whole europe next year reality. on: September 27, 2016, 08:17:10 PM

I see your point, but, on the other hand, doesn't it render the whole question somewhat hypothetical? I want to say that virtually everyone who would be considering sending money from one bank account to another bank account in another country (as you mean it) is already using Visa or Mastercard. In fact, I am also using wire transfers (that seems to be the proper term for what is being discussed here) now and then, namely, when I run out of limits for sending funds from card to card free of charge...

Well, it seems now that the issue is not as hypothetical as it first seemed to me

Wire transfers and card txs are not the same thing. You can't directly use card to send money to another individual. Also card transactions are not free, there are fees attached payable by merchants and usually are included in price of goods/services and are not instant. When paying with card, the recipient accepts payment instantly (because he knows tx has been approved), but the transaction are not yet settled (+ there's a chargeback period). I remember on one occasion it took ~2 weeks for the debit card payment to be recorded and taken from my account, usually it takes 1-2 working days, while most of bank transfers within UK are instant and free.
3209  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Why Freebitoin.in is a fraud on: September 27, 2016, 04:27:44 PM
How can you lose 13 or more times in a row if you are betting on a different odd each bet? like 2 times on hi 2 times on lo and 1 time hi 1 time lo/ hi/ lo/ hi/ hi/ lo/ lo/ hi/ hi/ lo/ lo/ lo/ hi/ lo/ hi/ hi/ hi/ hi/ lo/ hi.

Now can someone give an estimation on the percentage that could happen and all with lose streaks?

The chance of hitting 13 losses streak is the same as when you bet hi or lo for every bet. Mixing hi/lo won't increase your winning chances.

chciaż ostatnio widziałem newbie z avatarem...
pewnie jakaś płatna opcja lub coś podobnego. Dla regularnych użytkowników tylko nabijanie rankingu...

To musialo byc (bardzo) stare konto z niska ranga.

Jeśli szukasz polskiej społeczności to polecam forum.bitcoin.pl

Wyswietlanie sygnatur/awatarow mozesz wylaczyc w ustawieniach konta.

forum.bitcoin.pl owszem fajne, choc tez za wiele tam sie nie dzieje.
3211  Economy / Economics / Re: instant bank transfers thoughout whole europe next year reality. on: September 27, 2016, 03:38:29 PM
at this point it takes at least 1 business day to get money from one bank to a bank in a different country in europe. what do you guys think about this? will it be a positive or negative change?

Of course it's a positive change and massive improvement. I reckon eventually all bank transfer will be instant and free.

But obviously that's not a great news for Bitcoin, it'll be considered slow and expensive way of transacting and its only advantages over fiat left would be: decentralisation (questionable), censorship-free, fixed supply. But those virtues are probably not very appealing to the average Joe.

Nice mainstream press hit on Vitalik and ETH:

Can This 22-year-old Coder Out-Bitcoin Bitcoin?

Although he’s among the youngest in the room, Buterin is indisputably the star of the group. He is, after all, the wunderkind creator of Ethereum, the network on which Ether runs. And Ether is now the biggest rival to Bitcoin, the $10 billion cryptocurrency that mysteriously burst onto the scene less than a decade ago.

3213  Other / Off-topic / Re: can i be sued for creating a facebook page? on: September 27, 2016, 02:37:33 PM
I think so because you are previously employed to them.  ...

He said he was their agent, this doesn't have to mean he was employed.

@OP, have you created that FB page on your own initiative, or have they instructed you to create/maintain it as part of contractual agreement? Have you signed a contract with them at all? If so, are matters like this specified in it?

I'd say you likely got nothing to worry about, the fact that you're in different country makes it extra complicated for them, even if they had a good grounds to sue, which I think they don't.

Plus, if it was a case of trademark infringement, they could talk directly to Facebook and get that sorted.
3214  Economy / Economics / Re: What kind of global issues can move bitcoin price? on: September 27, 2016, 02:07:51 PM

Realistic factors that could move the price up:

1 - Negative interest rates becoming more common, it surely would drive some people to put a portion of their money into BTC/other crypto
2 - Moving towards cashless society concept. When physical cash is no longer available, but Bitcoin usage is allowed, that would take the price to a whole new level. That's off course only if Bitcoin can scale.
3215  Other / Meta / Re: How many high rank members are still active now? on: September 27, 2016, 01:43:47 PM

You could do members search - show all - sort by date registered, and start clicking on profiles to see who's still active. But apparently viewing all members is temporarily disabled.

Theymos probably has the highest activity here, there were only 34 people registered before him, his uid is 35. But possibly there are few older accounts still around. There's SmokeTooMuch, registered Dec 2009, last active 3 weeks ago, but his last post is from Jan 2016, so hard to say whether he's still active.
3216  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is Bitcoin Mixing legal for US citizens? on: September 27, 2016, 08:40:00 AM

What's not forbidden, is allowed, so there's nothing illegal in mixing bitcoins.

But, if you earned your bitcoins in legit way and just want to mix them for the privacy reason, it's always a good practice to keep a record of your transactions (ie deposit/withdrawal txs to mixing service) along with a receipt from mixing site (if provided), so you can produce some sort of proof if authorities ever question your income.
3217  Other / Politics & Society / Re: POLL Clinton or Trump vote! on: September 26, 2016, 06:55:57 PM

I am shocked by the vote ! The world has gone mad ! How can you vote for this idiot? In the UK have already voted and I don't know what to do. Now Americans are voting !

I'm not surprised at all. Results of this poll are fairly consistent with worldwide voting. As of now Trump leads 77% to 23%, nearly 114k votes.

Hope it works out  and turns out you didn't get stolen from but thankfully the amount isn't very large.

Yeah me too and well the amount is not very large yes but still i was building a bankroll from low to high with the btc i had left  and its was near total of my bankroll so its not so fun Sad

It seems a bit odd that, if someone hacked your account, he would withdraw only part of your balance, not all of it... What was your total balance?

3220  Other / Politics & Society / Re: POLL Clinton or Trump vote! on: September 24, 2016, 07:56:48 PM

Gary Johnson is polling very strongly in some of the swing states, such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. This is bad news for Trump, as most of those who are supporting Johnson are GOP voters, who don't want to support Trump. Anyway, I don't understand the point in voting Johnson, as he is having zero chance of winning the POTUS elections.

Looks like GJ just kill his chances:

I know it's some kind of sickness and shouldn't be laughed about, but you can't take him seriously after that.
