3201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: USA Banking Giants announce new bitcoin like money transfer service clearXchange on: May 26, 2011, 02:17:12 PM
Also a while ago I heard on the news that Visa is in the works allowing p2p easy transfers between Vasa's card holders
It is not p2p if it goes through visa first.

I recieved a payment tonight of 0.00   What does that mean?
Are you running the latest Bitcoin? Perhaps someone send you 0.001 and it's only showing 2 decimal places.
I will upgrade!   That could be it.  Thanks.

3205  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Price of BTC and its relation to spending on: May 25, 2011, 01:33:29 PM
My price is in dollars then converted to btc at the end at the mtgox rate. It is too early to tell but when btc becomes MORE valuable people spend more.

I see pricing being more stable in the future in the 6-8 dollar range.

3208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Protests in Spain: A BitCoin promotion opportunity. (10 BTC bounty) on: May 25, 2011, 01:44:21 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't those people protesting in Spain protesting against government austerity measures? Because if I'm correct and they are first of all I have zero sympathy for them and 2nd of all I wouldn't want Bitcoin to get associated with socialists in anyway shape or form.

Too late.
3209  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Clear 4g Wireless internet service in 80 cities PREPAID 1 year via BitCoin on: May 25, 2011, 12:07:26 AM
I urge everyone in this thread to regularly visit DSLreports.com - they're biased towards the consumer, but less so than any ISP-sponsored news source.

EDIT:  well crud, my own company is under attack.  Wonderful.

Most companies get some of that in online reviews.  Unless you service downloads magical unicorns at will someone will complain.  Many ISP's have problems but for me, comcast is the worst and FIOS has been the best.
3210  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Clear 4g Wireless internet service in 80 cities PREPAID 1 year via BitCoin on: May 24, 2011, 11:12:22 PM
Location is important with clear.  In some areas they are overloaded and I'm some they are way under capacity.  I get full speeds in Baltimore , laurel, NYC and Philly.  In dc my speeds are 3G like.  What is nice for portable service they beat out the 3G services at basically the same price.

3211  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Clear 4g Wireless internet service in 80 cities PREPAID 1 year via BitCoin on: May 24, 2011, 09:53:57 PM
They have a contract auto-renew policy, so you're stuck with them for another 1 or 2 years if you don't cancel in the right manner.
They will not release you from said contract unless you call them between 30 and 60 days of contract end that you do not wish to auto-renew.

Two good reasons to pay in bitcoins...
Exactly.

I added a six month option as well and found out how to drop the activation fees.

You got lucky as the rate is now $45 a month.
Actually so did I.

I don't normally put a stick in the mud for people selling stuff, and I am sorry for having to do so, but Clear... man... stay AWAY!

They lock you in to a 1 or 2 year contract.
They have a contract auto-renew policy, so you're stuck with them for another 1 or 2 years if you don't cancel in the right manner.
They will not release you from said contract unless you call them between 30 and 60 days of contract end that you do not wish to auto-renew.
Even if you move to an area that does not have Clear service, you cannot cancel your contract.
They used to be named Clearwire.  I guess they had to rename because Clearwire got such a bad reputation.  And it's hard to google and find relevant items for "clear sucks" vs "clearwire sucks".
When I had the service, I was getting 100kbps, if I was lucky, during peak usage times.  The only time I would actually see advertised speeds (1.5mbps) was 3 or 4 AM in the morning.
Pings were also atrocious.  400-500ms was the norm, and 1000+ would happen regularly.  Often, I would have to try 5 or 10 times to even be able to load websites.
I finally had to contact the BBB before they would allow me out of their contract without paying the ridiculous ETF.

STAY AWAY FROM CLEAR.

Littleshop, I wish you the best of success in selling other items in your store.  I just felt I had to warn people about the abomination of internet service that is called Clear.

I understand some of your frustration but...

We are not locking anyone in a contract.  I use clear daily and love it.   I have had slow service in DC but fast everywhere else.  It is a WIRELESS service, it is not going to be as good as Comcast or Fios but it certainly beats out DSL for most people.

3215  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Clear 4g Wireless internet service in 80 cities PREPAID 1 year/6mo via BitCoin on: May 24, 2011, 05:26:43 PM
Unplug with Clear!  We are selling a clear USB stick activated with one year of clear.com 4G internet service.

[revised prices]
6 months delivered $299.99
12 months delivered $549.99

This price includes the service at $45 a month, the hardware and the activation fee.  Please note that you pay in BitCoin at the mtgox.com rate, not in USD!

Please check the service map for clear.com and make sure you are in a good signal area, it is in many places but it is mostly cities and not rural areas.

If there is interest we may offer other devices.

It is on the front page at:

3216  Economy / Marketplace / Re: A message for BiddingPond sellers. on: May 24, 2011, 02:38:11 AM
Well, here's the thing.  I put a new Dell Streak 7 tablet up starting at 0.99 BTC, no reserve, high bidder gets it.  Same thing I usually do on ebay.  Well there are so few users /bidders on BiddingPond that it sold for $20 BTC.  Great for the buyer, not so hot for me.

I'm not giving up on it yet though.  I should perhaps start with some cheaper items.
A low start price (1 btc) plus a reasonable reserve is a way to try to sell a valuable item on biddingpond.  People DO bid on reserve auctions, but not as much as reserve free auctions.  Unfortunately people often set the reserve too high as well.

What are the best flag settings for a 6990?
3218  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: POLL: Are you still buying mining equipment? on: May 24, 2011, 12:56:54 AM
yes, why not ?

Because difficulty going up without BTC price going up will cause the payback to be less then the price of the equipment.  Our next difficulty is on track to be more then a 50% increase again and it is happening sooner then 10 days.  If you repeat that just four more times mining is not very profitable.

I just got my last 6990 card.  It should make some acceptable money in the next month.   After that profit is unlikely.  I will turn my equipment off a little before it becomes unprofitable due resale value of the equipment.
3219  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Fees vs. new blocks on: May 24, 2011, 12:51:59 AM
you can check with blockexplorer or http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/ and see the amount of the fees.  Right now they are usually well under 1 btc per block, most of the time .1 btc or so.
3220  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: ‘GUI’ miners for Mac (Diablo GPU and RPCminer CPU) on: May 23, 2011, 03:51:02 AM
I think there is a bug.  I enter port 8337 and it always corrects it to 8332 and fails to connect.
