3201  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin here to stay in Brazil or??.. on: December 23, 2022, 04:39:02 PM
@bitmover, from everything we could read in maybe the last 2-3 weeks, we could conclude that a lot of people are completely confused with what is happening in Brazil. Even if Brazil did the same thing as El Salvador, I don't understand why people think that it would cause some kind of massive movement in the price of Bitcoin - because, like in ES, Bitcoin would only be an alternative to the existing currency.

I guess that in a sea of bad news, everyone is desperately looking for some good news, so even though everyone would like something like that to happen, we still have to be realistic and accept reality - in the end, someone like you who lives in Brazil knows best what it's all about.
3202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for an Easy, Non-Custodial Wallet for my parents friend on: December 23, 2022, 04:04:07 PM
Did you just mentioned Blockfolio account? Is that not FTX? I thought FTX was originally called Blockfolio? Anyone should please confirm this claim for me before I get more confused.

OP clearly wrote "I found out that Blockfolio had been acquired by FTX..." and what is there to be confusing? The company FTX bought Blockfolio and paid in its worthless tokens, and now everything that FTX invested in is worth nothing, although I don't know if there is a chance that any of it will be saved.
3203  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are you here? on: December 23, 2022, 03:49:17 PM
I am a newbie here in forum but I already knew cryptocurrency since 2018. But all I know is to invest and trade my money only.
I started my trading journey in 2019 and it did not bring a lot of profits.
I did not learn from my past mistakes and yet, I was still aggressive. I lose more than 1000 dollars because of my ignorance.

One would think that something can be learned over the years, but you yourself admit that this is not the case. The world of cryptocurrencies is mostly made up of illusions and scams, the sooner you realize that, the more money you will have left in your pocket.

Now, I discovered the different forums in cryptocurrency as well as this forum. Hoping to learn more about cryptocurrency and how it really works. I will not stop until I can invest in a right project and contribute a lot in this forum.

Right project? Do you think that everyone on this forum is honest and with good intentions, and that the projects you will find here are exactly what you are looking for? Maybe it will surprise you, but the scams on this forum are not even moderated, and if you continue to be naive, that $1000 will at some point seem like a very small amount.

So for the newbies like me, why did you join bitcointalk.org?

I heard that Satoshi Nakamoto will appear one day and send all active members at least 1 BTC, so I said why not be here when that happens Wink Just kidding of course
3204  Other / Meta / Re: Avatar for another membership? on: December 23, 2022, 03:06:33 PM
I don't think this should be a priority to Bitcointalk. Users have the freedom to do almost anything, but if they can't earn 100 Merits in hundreds of posts, they don't deserve an avatar.

Lately, some people have been thinking of some rather strange ideas, and regardless of the fact that the OP does not have anything bad in mind when they propose this idea, I will still agree with you and I am of the opinion that some things should be earned, not bought. Each of the accounts mentioned by the OP would definitely look better with an avatar, but I think that the signature, personal text and website link are not something that should be ignored.

In addition, all of these, let's call them "business accounts", are mainly or exclusively focused on posts in ANN threads, so an avatar would not help them much in promoting their companies.
3205  Economy / Reputation / Re: Members of the RedTrust leadership on: December 23, 2022, 12:17:54 PM
Someone is obviously bored in life, and besides, they have no idea how the trust system works, and even less that red trust feedback from a scammer means nothing. Even administrators and global mods along with most of the staff are on this list, so the OP probably thinks the whole forum is one big scam. However, the list is a bit short, because there are thousands of those who have a red trust, so I hope that the OP will continue to add to the list Roll Eyes
3206  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: How To Recover Crypto worth 78k$ from Stolen Phone on: December 23, 2022, 11:55:27 AM
I read the whole thread and all the replies, and everyone missing a simple point: your phone doesn't have any password protection? Fingerprint, face id, or a simple pin!

You are overestimating all these types of protection, because all of that can be bypassed without the need to reset the device. I don't want to advertise anyone, so if you know how to use the search engine, you can find a lot of articles describing how to bypass each of these protections.

Besides, if the thief is someone who was close to the OP, he could very easily get a fingerprint, or find out what his PIN is - and sometimes a photo can also be used for face ID, I know this because I played with these things 10 years ago when this technology was not widely available.

...police asked for time and support which i am providing and welling to support them to find my phone or a trace to the theif.

Have you thought about offering a reward for the one who would give the right information or for the one who would return the device? As a reason, you can state that the device contains some photos and videos that have great sentimental value for you. If the thief just wants to sell the device, he will certainly accept a better offer in the form of a reward.
3207  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will The FED pivot? on: December 23, 2022, 11:18:50 AM
~snip~

I would even dare to say that the war directly or indirectly affected more than a billion people, because the EU alone has a little less than 500 million people, and what about all those poor countries that depended even more on cheap energy sources and grain that came from Russia and Ukraine. I think that the West should have been much firmer and more determined towards the war and given Ukraine what it was asking for so that it could defend itself and return the occupied territories - because people are fighting like lions against a far superior enemy. Give them what they want and I'm sure they will end the war within 6 months.

There maybe a fourth scenario concerning Russia vs Ukraine, I have heard rumors that Ukraine may get a new leadership and peace negotiations will resume meaning there will be a (hopefully) win-win situation(or call it loose-loose) but the ultimate outcome would be to end the conflict sometimes in 2023. Meaning a possible rally for bitcoin.

You mean some pro-Russian leadership that will turn a blind eye to everything that happened and give Russia 20% of Ukraine? That would not be any leadership, but a group of traitors - if the Russians want to end the war, they just need to remove the crazy emperor from the throne.

Assuming that 2023 will look like 2019 when Q2 had nearly 160% rise in btc price, your prediction that btc will start to rise sometimes in April does make sense. However, sometimes in June Mt. Gox will likely release some btc as well so that April - May rally could be short and will likely resume in Q4.

Mt.Gox is news that is obviously abused by many in the sense that the compensation payments will cause a new earthquake on the crypto market, and we know that the payments will not happen all at once, and that in addition to Bitcoin, it will be possible to request payments in fiat or even an altcoin.
3208  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Poll] What are the safest platforms? on: December 22, 2022, 05:02:12 PM
Where is the option "None of the above"?
...
I wouldn't trust a single one of these platforms with a single satoshi.

I share your opinion, and I also can't stop being surprised that many people ask identical questions, as if, after all, people should still be encouraged to unreservedly believe that option A will be better than option B or C. As for trading, which is why centralized platforms exist, then I guess it should be most important that they have liquidity, as few fees as possible and KYC, which is not a nightmare.

I do not trust all of the news articles and the negative propaganda being written about Binance. CZ has been bailing out platforms in the cryptospace that are at risk of bankruptcy or those that have been bankrupted already. Is this the activity of company that is at risk to be bankrupt? Head scratching if you say yes.

It's your personal matter, if you want to believe that CZ is a person of high trust who does good for all of us, then live in that belief. Until recently, you had a very positive opinion about Bankman, and it turned out that he is not exactly the most intelligent, quite the opposite.

Are we witnessing the emergence of the biggest bitcoin antagonist in the cryptospace? I think Sam Bankman-Fried is one of the most intelligent founders in the cryptospace, however, I am starting to be more skeptical about his agenda. In the article, he mentioned that bitcoin may have a future as an asset, a commodity or a store of value. I am scratching my head on what he might be implying in his statement. Is he telling us that bitcoin will not forever be no.1 in market capitalization?
3209  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will The FED pivot? on: December 22, 2022, 04:44:28 PM
Just expect a rather bumpy road for as long as the recession might last, which could be quite a few years. I think that's the most realistic expectation to have. It probably won't be on 2008/2009 levels since they should've learned from that, but I wouldn't be absolutely sure of that.
~snip~

As much as the pandemic has left its mark on the world economy, for me at the moment it is much more important that there is a raging war in the middle of Europe, and regardless of what some will say that it is between Ukraine and Russia, we all know that the stakes in this war are much higher. Although inflation has hit the whole world, Europe has undoubtedly lost cheap gas and oil from Russia, which means that it will suffer the most until it adapts.

So regardless of whether "they" have learned something from past economic crises, this is about something that is much more complicated to solve, and as time goes on it will be even more difficult. In any case, I can agree that difficult years await us, but we must adapt or it will be even more difficult.
3210  Economy / Economics / Re: Vegetable Prices Soar 40% as Crops Fail Under Extreme Weather on: December 22, 2022, 04:07:00 PM
~snip~

There is no doubt about that, because technology has undoubtedly changed the way we produce food, but it has also drastically reduced the quality of food due to faster production and higher yields. I watched a documentary about tomatoes and the way their production has changed through the decades, and that the most important thing for the producers is appearance and longevity, while they don't care at all about the nutritional value and harmful ingredients that are in the final product. Consequently, today's industrial tomato has lost almost 50% of its nutritional value that it once had.

The most tragic thing in the whole story is the fact that most of today's young people do not know what a tomato, cucumber or pepper really tastes like. This is why it is definitely worth producing your own vegetables, even in small quantities - but only if you can get old and unmodified seeds, which are increasingly difficult to find.
3211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aren't FTX CUSTOMERS Victims? on: December 22, 2022, 03:40:05 PM
I dont really have anyone to talk to.. I lost my USD that I had saved up .. I kept it on FTX.US.  If I tell anyone who isnt into crypto.. they say im a loser for trusting crypto.. if I tell anyone else they say im a loser for trusting ftx.

Fortunately, there are many people here who will support you, because although few admit that they lost funds on that CEX, I believe that this number is significant because many on this forum promoted Bankman as a crypto messiah, and I did not notice that anyone apologized because of that. In particular, you made mistakes that cannot be corrected, because not only did you trust a completely unknown person, but you also kept stablecoins, which makes no sense. I would advise you not to tell people you know about it, because you are obviously surrounded by people who show no compassion, so they only increase your suffering.

Throughout the whole thing(3 years) I have worked a super low end job.. 14$ an hour.. but the business needs me and I am fairly happy.. But I would like a way to make money... I tried alot of different things but nothing has worked.... I am a sincerely good person.. I have some skill in programming.. but people constantly try to take advantage of me.. and im afraid.

The matter is quite simple, you have to change your attitude towards people, because if you don't show that you have your own attitude and defense mechanism, nothing will change. If you can afford quality psychological help, I would definitely recommend it - because not everyone can make difficult life changes on their own.
3212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should your wife or husband know your seed phrase? on: December 22, 2022, 03:20:47 PM
Now I remembered a video in which the husband did not really trust his wife, and it turned out that he was right because she and her lover had a plan to steal his Bitcoins. Of course, it's a short film, but who says something like that can't happen in real life? In any case, be careful with your backups Wink

3213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who holds 1+ Bitcoin, how does it feel to hold in bear market? on: December 22, 2022, 11:54:50 AM
~snip~

For those of us who have been active on the forum for many years, the bear market is nothing new, nor do we experience it too stressfully (at least it seems so to me). I will say for myself that if I witnessed the time when 1 BTC was worth even less than $200, then I have no reason to feel bad nowadays.

For those who are just starting out, I think this might be the perfect time for an investment, although it is possible that the price will be even lower in the coming months. I think that the chances for that will decrease as we get closer to the halving in 2024, of course assuming that the halving will have the same effects as it was the case in the past.
3214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should your wife or husband know your seed phrase? on: December 22, 2022, 11:43:58 AM
I think it depends on the level of trust between two people, it doesn't have to be husband and wife, it can be father and son or brother and sister. Therefore, if there is no full trust, I would keep such sensitive things to myself, with of course ensuring that this information is transferred to that person in case something happens to me.

Also, a lot depends on whether the husband and wife invest together in Bitcoin, which would then be a joint asset, or whether one of them does it individually from their personal earnings. In the end, it all boils down to trust - and today that is something that most people can't boast about, because marriage today is something that people don't value as much as before, that's why there are a lot of divorces.
3215  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which kind of situation will force you to sell? on: December 21, 2022, 03:47:17 PM
Of course, everyone has a specific situation when they have no choice but to use Bitcoin regardless of the price. Health reasons are perhaps at the top of the priority list, because what kind of person would he be if he didn't want to help himself or a member of his family.

Some people have pre-defined exit points, others are smart and know how to profit during a bull run, and then buy cheaply during corrections and bear markets. Anyone who has the courage to sell it above $50k and more not only made a profit, but could buy a few BTC for that amount and calmly wait for a new bull market.

Personally, I have no problem using BTC as a currency, or exchanging it for fiat regardless of the price - but not everyone has the same starting positions and that is something that needs to be taken into account.
3216  Economy / Economics / Re: SBF-Denies Improper use of Customer Funds in a 1 on 1 Interview on: December 21, 2022, 03:32:14 PM
There is a very real risk that SBF may attempt to kill himself, for someone like him that was so proud about his achievements and about the material gain that he has gained by deceiving his investors it is going to be almost impossible to accept the incredibly difficult conditions he will find at prison, and as such it is possible he will take the easy way out, and as much as I do not like him I would not want for that to happen as there are many investors that need answers about what happened.

I already answered a similar question somewhere, but honestly, no matter how cruel it sounds, why should we care if he does it? Maybe you should ask yourself how many people have already committed suicide and how many will commit suicide in the future because of Bankman?

If you've read any serious article about what happened, you have most of the answers, you don't need Bankman to admit that he's an idiot who instead of running a company was conducting some kind of social experiments in his villa in the Bahamas. All those involved should be sentenced to long prison sentences, and if any of them wants to pronounce a death sentence on themselves, that is between them and God.
3217  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yobit Scam Accusation megathread. "Normal" modus operandi or shady practices? on: December 21, 2022, 03:13:34 PM
Aren't they based out of Russia?  That was probably stated here, but I'm pretty sure that's true and I wonder how the war is affecting them.  And lastly, it still blows my mind that they're still in business after all these years.  Better exchanges have come and gone and yet Yobit is still around.  Nutty, just nutty.

I think there is no doubt about that, unless the owner has changed and moved the headquarters somewhere else - which I sincerely doubt, considering that with their reputation it is difficult for them to do business anywhere except in Russia. The war has no bad effect on crypto exchange, it is an online business that has at least 100+ million potential users from that country alone, not to mention all those who are always looking for an opportunity to make money in extremely suspicious projects.

If you wonder why they are still in business, you should study a little more how things work in that country - pay whoever you have to and be sure that you will function smoothly.
3218  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 21, 2022, 12:16:38 PM
There is a high chance price moves back up to the 17500-17700 area then drop hard to 10k.

What wisdom, you really have to be a genius to come up with something like that. Fortunately, I deleted that social network, so I don't have to read all these pointless speculations.
3219  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just lost $4000 because of addresses starting with "bc1p" on: December 21, 2022, 12:10:17 PM
I would never blame the tool, but the one who uses it without being familiar with all its features. Therefore, to say that someone is a moron for allowing us to pay less transaction fees is nothing more than ignorance and disrespect for all the developers working to improve Bitcoin.

It has never happened to me that I send BTC to the wrong address, but that is because every time before the transaction I check everything at least three times, and for larger amounts this means that I check every character in the address, no matter how paranoid it may seem to someone. An expensive mistake, but I hope a lesson well learned and a warning for everyone who will read this topic.
3220  Other / Meta / Re: Who Pays Bitcointalk.org (org) Domain Fee Per Year? on: December 21, 2022, 11:50:52 AM
I guess Cyrus might be Satoshi since he is the co-admin here or maybe another forum name that not actively posting here but is always online to monitor the forum?

This means that Satoshi could be anyone, not necessarily someone who is an administrator and spends a lot of time online. Actually, it doesn't matter who Satoshi is, there are good reasons why it should remain a secret. However, it is fascinating how people conclude that it could be this or that person, often without any evidence.
