3221  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price falls why?? on: July 11, 2019, 03:10:08 PM
The same story happened 2 weeks ago: Bitcoin has reached some 13800$, then dropped sharply to 10300$, then slower to 9700$.
Now it touched 13200$ and it's falling.

I am not scared, at least not yet. For many traders a 10-20% gain is already wonderful and they are cashing in then maybe repeat. I think that something like that happens for now.
If it'll fall again under 10000$ I may not like it though...

If this happens it is quite normal (as you correctly said), you don't need to worry, the lower it goes the more pressure it will build for a recovery. It works both ways, it just went up too fast, it had to correct. You have to look at the long term curve, which should be more or less logarithmic, since the inception of bitcoin until maturity. (ie. 50~100 years). It's been a mere 10 years Smiley

3222  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is way down today on: July 11, 2019, 03:00:43 PM
Do you know how to protect your cryptocurrency from whale ‘rinse and repeat’ trades?

Yes, with this magic thing called stop loss. For example when it was at 13k:

In Poloniex: If price goes down to 12.5k (stop) sell at 12.4k (limit) (against stable coin)

Then once you see it down and feel confident enough, do it again, for example when it was at 11.2k:

If price rises up to 11.5k (stop) buy at 11.6k (limit).

Actually the wider this is, the safer. That is to accommodate for small fluctuations, but my examples are actually quite tight and not recommended (high risk).

Most exchanges have this with different nomenclature, but they work more or less the same way.

Bots and automated trading platforms can do this for you, or you could just hold and relax, if you are not going to burn your bitcoins and are saving, it will go up in the long term anyway, despite fluctuations.
3223  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Summer Mining - Home miner on: July 10, 2019, 05:19:33 PM
Hmm thick mineral wool sounds interesting for sound dampening. You could make a tunnel (all for walls) and cover them with some thinner material, tho the pink foamy would work well. The rigid floor transmits noise...

Well, i guess you could just add some more wool on top of the pink, and use something for the floor.

One thing about noise blocking that doesn't block air, is angles, as in 90° angle. Place a wall of thick wool spaced away from the fans, and cover it above as well (lengthen the tunnel) while leaving the sides open for air intake. Ideally the same thing on the exhaust side, something like:

    _____________

     <-miners-<
     <-miners-<
     <-miners-<
  _____________

Instead of just:

   _____________

      <-miners-<
      <-miners-<
      <-miners-<

3224  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Innosilicon T2T 30T Fan Speed on: July 10, 2019, 04:51:06 PM
Hi , the tweak is really simply ...

On the plug 4 wire on the fan (black / red / blue / yellow) ... unplug ONLY the blue wire , and connect this on GND on miner (directely on psu or black wire on fan) and interpose a potentiometer (between black and blue wire) for adjuste speed Wink

This means... manual fan rpm control? Lol. You don't need the potentiomenter if you are fine with 100% Smiley

Interesting that the 3rd wire controls rpm as opposed to the 4th wire in the S9.
3225  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Another S9 not working on: July 10, 2019, 04:42:47 PM
Yes, in addition to target temperature exposed in the ui there are two hidden parameters you can change: Hot, which is when fans go 100%, and dangerous which is the one that makes it stop mining/restart.

Here is a sample in the bOS thread.

Remember, it is your personal choice and responsibility, and you can damage your equipment if you mis-configure these parameters. You should find ways to improve the airflow in your place. It is also possible to disable sensors, or ignore just the chip sensors (there are two types of sensors, on chip (remote), and on-board). With: disable-sensors and disable-remote-sensors.

bOS is the most flexible firmware because it doesn't do any hand holding for you, but you alone assume the risks of your mistakes.
3226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: remember that time satoshi Created a p2p e-cash sent directly from one party to on: July 10, 2019, 04:12:18 PM
I'm getting paid in satoshis and i would love if could just buy things directly in BTC, but that is sadly not the reality i live in. But, at least i try to hold as much as possible (which isn't much but...). And if i ever find a stable source of fiat again, i'd would keep buying either bitcoin directly or equipment to mine it.

How do you break the status quo of fiat supremacy, even in the country with the worst fiat? People are stubborn.
3227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The end game of bitcoin and gold on: July 10, 2019, 03:56:36 PM
There is a chance, that someone may someday find more gold in space (or ways to synthesize it), while bitcoin is set for 21 million.

Truth be told gold can have an actual physical use, but because of its value it has been mostily relegated to vaults, market speculation and some jewelry.

Last examples i could think of, would be processor pins and CDR blank media (The original cyanine gold/green Taiyo Yuden formula, as written in orange book III). That was probably the last time i had actual gold in my hands for a practical non frivolous use.

Bitcoin can never be touched, ever.
3228  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mark Yusko: Bitcoin can go up to $ 30,000 without correction on: July 10, 2019, 03:31:34 PM
Mark Yusko said in an interview that Bitcoin price can go up to $ 30,000 without correction.

What's your take on this?

What? no correction? Are you kidding me? No market can sustain a parabolic growth not even bitcoin. I'm not familiar with this dude, but it seems he doesn't know a thing or two about how everything works in crypto. NO parabolic growth is sustainable, at least it needs to have a retracement in order to move on the next phase.

Which is what has been occurring all these years. This person didn't see what happened after bitcoin reached 19k in dec 2017, a whole year going down to 3k..

Its now at 13k again today, but that i still think was too early too fast.

Every-time there is a bull run, there come flowing the outrageous bull claims. And when it goes bear, the outrageous bear claim come as well. Like most in the market, they all cling to the lead, but can't lead a thing themselves.
3229  Other / Meta / Re: Why bitcointalk.org is so popular? on: July 10, 2019, 03:24:31 PM
Hey guys. I'm a talkative person and participate in a lot of chats and forums. And I noticed that this forum is the most popular one. Can you explain to me how it happened and why? What's their success story?

The creator of Bitcoin made it... Satoshi is the founder of Bitcointalk.
3230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fun Facts of Bitcoin on: July 10, 2019, 03:24:24 PM
People may know about these fun facts already but just recently i get to know about few stuff, like 2 pizza's bought for 10,000btc....(worth $30), which could've worth a lot more now. However, it is amazing to see the bitcoin coming long way and making its place in the market and mark in the history.

All it takes is a little search... In this forum: Pizza for bitcoins?

As you can see, that was topic 137, while yours is 5163684.

A lot of the history of Bitcoin was made on this forum, made by Satoshi.

Fun fact: You are using Satoshi's forum.
3231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Cafe on: July 10, 2019, 03:09:09 PM
Perhaps, because all bitcoin transactions are public, they fear the day politicians are forced to declare under oath their wallet address so everyone can see exactly how much money they are getting, and from whom, and what they to with it...

Of course they could still keep hidden wallets...
3232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The difference between Bitcoin and Facebook's Libra on: July 10, 2019, 03:03:05 PM
I see that Libra adoption will be higher than BTC.  with a coin stable system, Libra will have many users.  Retail also will be more comfortable making Libra coin transactions.  but in the long term, BTC can become an asset and compete with legendary assets such as gold.  and Libra coin is not good for being a long-term asset.

Libra won't even make it to 2nd place, be thankful if it ever enters the top 10 altcoins, which i doubt.

Everything in Libra is wrong, its failure is guaranteed by its flawed design.

Centralization, plutocracy, us law jurisdiction, a company that can't even keep their core services running, transaction reversal, inflationary... this is garbage.
3233  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Another S9 not working on: July 10, 2019, 02:41:38 PM
9.4v is too much, if you have to go over 9v, its better to reduce speed in my opinion.

And yes, assume that board is failing, don't expect it to work at spec speed anymore, if it works fine at 500mhz, so be it.

When you install BrainsOS, go and lower those voltages. Yes it loves 9.4v, but don't. I know someone that starts at 8.7v always. Hundreds and hundreds of S9s...

If you went back to factory firmware, it probably changed its ip, you'll have to find it again. Depending on how you made your bOS image, there is a small chance you cloned up the mac address. Plug the miner controller directly to a computer and scan its ip, log in and inspect the hw mac address and compare it with the second one, just in case.

There is nothing factory software can do that you can't replicate manually with bOS. If anything, the factory firmware is going to limit you more. Also bOS is over protective by default, since it reboots if over 95°C while factory might leave it running until 115°C or such. bOS is giving you a second chance to fix your overheating, while factory will happily burn it. More sales right? Smiley

Also as told elsewhere, the sensors tend to fail. That's when you appreciate bOS the more, with factory you would think the hash board is useless, but still works using bOS...
3234  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Issues with t9+ chip temp on: July 10, 2019, 01:12:18 PM
Are you moving enough air? They say its 200 cfm per each S9 (i guess twice that for the newer models). Those cfm are fresh air from outside, and the hot exhaust air that needs to go outside. The hot room should not feel very hot at all if you are sucking all that air quickly. Otherwise the hot air is finding its way back somehow. I don't know if this 3hp thing is enough for your setup, but probably isn't (air conditioning is a lost battle). You could use a tool to measure the cfm.

In short: Move that air, don't worry about cooling it down, just move it.
3235  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer Hack S15 / S17 SSH and so on for free on: July 10, 2019, 12:56:10 PM
I bought one already cable in Amazon from USB to RJ45, but like i told you nothing works.
The connections are in the RJ45 or in the boards points like old JTAGs ?

Both apparently. I did saw the 3 pin header on S9s, but this may vary with controller model/revision.
3236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoin : The Money of People on: July 09, 2019, 09:41:56 PM
Bitcoin will always rise because its supply is really low, apart that this started with the cryptocurrency and at some point billions will enter this market and all good projects will go to the moon. Wink

More than bitcoin rising it will stabilize. Thing is, all fiats are devalued intentionally, while bitcoin will find its price and stay there more or less like gold does.

But if you compare it against those fiats that keep getting inflation every year, then it might look like bitcoin will always be on the rise. Its actually everyone else going down, and that's not bitcoin's fault.

You see, the USD has to lose 2% yearly because that's the the Chicago school dogma dictates, and so do most of the other fiats, more or less, they always have to lose value. They are scared of deflation, something the Austrian school explains pretty well how can the economy work with.

Follow the Austrian principles and everything falls in place. Keep thinking the other way, and you will always be scared of a coin that doesn't lose value over time. For starters, put an end to fractional reserve banking. No more economy growing overnight due to debt, but slow and steady growing due to people's own real savings.
3237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please read my story on: July 09, 2019, 08:04:08 PM
Well BT means nothing in my country, it certainly doesn't mean cigarettes. Is the world supposed to accept your imposition? If you start digging, all the tickers will have hidden meanings elsewhere, just like language words. Too bad you are associating cigarettes with bitcoin, but you are wrong there, and Satoshi wasn't at fault.

If it feels you better (or worse) the official accepted ticker in some circles is XBT Smiley

Extra BT? heh.

Downside to password manager is you lose or get hacked that one master password you can say goodbye to all your accounts...

Well, i did left out the part where you are supposed to use a secure device to keep your passwords. One step at a time... A secure OS with a secure computer would do. Windows is big no no, Linux/bsd is better but should not be the same device you use for web browsing. Its similar to handling wallets.

The password database is well encrypted, you can backup the file to google drive, dropbox or whatever cloud storage you fancy. You can also have more than one password database file, be creative...

Using no password manager is the worst scenario. A physical book is ok i guess, but its in clear view and can get lost...
Either way it is not scalable to keep hundreds of passwords in your brain, that's why that brain wallet idea was so foolish. The password manager also happens to be a great password generator. People should get in the habit of using them. Then you can add your ideas on top of that.

[...]

You are very wrong in your "hacker" scenario, but i won't get into details as this is too much derailing, suffice to know you are very very wrong thinking that is helping you in anyway. No wonder you are so stubborn with 8 bit addressing.

Perhaps you should, i don't know, use nmap (with proper options for quick scanning) to see how many seconds it takes to scan all your devices. If the guy is in because, say, that windows laptop or usb a malware was tailored for you (or your type), you are finished. "Hackers" do not go for "low hanging fruit", do not equate the average script kiddie with the guys checking people with money, and/or mining equipment that can grant them even more money, especially crypto...

2 days? Lol. Its more like 2 minutes...

Now, how the heck could you bring the word company when talking about a password manager? WTH is a password manager company? Do you even saw what i linked? A password manager is a program, and the one i linked is a Free and open-source software, you know, like Bitcoin... You would be an idiot to trust a company to handle your passwords, that's like trusting your money to a bank, or your coins to an exchange...

Even your password idea is poor, because there is a way to mix and match generated or password sourced words like bits and bytes to speed up brute forcing, and there you are using Root (big no) which becomes a separate cell to the rest, your password is suddenly as strong as 12345a, ie: it isn't. Here, I'll show you how a truly good password looks like, and hope you don't use it:

I just made it with my Free and open-source software password manager in under a second, i could copy it and paste it anytime i wanted. Mostly i seek whats the max length and character groups accepted by a device or web site and max it.

And yes, i know it doesn't end there, that simply alleviates one of the many possible vectors for penetration. Computer security can be a career profession on its own right. But this is too much derailing for someone not changing an Asic miner default password.

Heck a good one could even be stealing you coins already without you noticing, by being subtle, like those lame dev fee firmware that take only a little from time to time... Ensuring longevity over quick grabs...

Well as i said if you get too many errors you have to either lower the speed or bump the voltage. And remember the middle board tends to overheat more due to a Bitmain miss design (intake fan too close to the board).

I say your ambient temperatures are fine, they are supposed to work up to 40°C ambient, as long as you keep that air moving, 200cfm per s9 as some have suggested (fresh air separate from exhaust air). Humidity should be above 20% but under 70% (they say up to 90% is ok, but things like the fan grills get rust).
