Usually, the label on the control board will be represented in the kernel log, in case that is not the case, then the ordering is ascending, so your chain 0 will be J1, the labels are quite visible on the control board, you just need to follow the ribbon cable to see which hash board goes to which socket.
3242  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain extends warranty period on all new orders on: November 13, 2020, 12:19:38 AM
So what could happen if miners like you met with a serious repair problem? Do you just leave those gears aside?

Yes, sadly in most cases you just need to throw them away, some issues can be fixed, but it all depends on the cost and the level of expertise it requires, since sending the gears back to China was never an option I had to learn how to fix at least some of the issues, whatever I can't fix I simply get rid of.

Quote
Isn't that a loss if the miners doesn't function properly?

That is a part of the risk that miners need to take, many of them don't add this factor in their business plan, this is why I have always said that miners' main focus should be quick ROI rather than long-term profitability since these miners can fail at any given second, even if sending the gear back to bitmain was an option, by the time you get a replacement difficulty would have spiked or/and the price would have dropped and everything you planned for is out of the door.

Quote
I don't mine nor I am technically strong in Mining, but going through the posts from Mining section urged me to ask a few questions to regular miners like you. AFAIK there are only repair centers in CA, Russia and Europe, so what happens to miners living in other geographical locations? Should they send back the gears to China and spend a hell lot of shipping charges again?

Most miners will run the math when it comes to sending those gears to the repair centers of Bitmain, if it's worth the fees i,e the mining gear is new and worth a lot - they would ship it, if shipping costs $200 and you need to wait for 2 months when it's only 1 bad hash board out of 3, and the whole miner now worth $500, it makes no sense to send it back to Bitmain, they will just unplug the bad board and mine on.

3243  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: issue on hoshboard s9i on: November 12, 2020, 11:42:49 PM
The 3 hash boards seem okay, they all showing 63 asic chips which what the S9i hash boards have, this could be a power-related issue, what is the voltage you are using?

Code:
Chain[J6] has 63 asic
Chain[J7] has 63 asic
Chain[J8] has 63 asic

Can you try to remove the other 2 boards and keep only the one that has a fluctuating frequency and voltage?
3244  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: lovecore a1problem on: November 11, 2020, 07:19:50 PM
The kernel log looks pretty different, kind of hard to understand, but it seems like your problem is here

Code:
Nov 10 02:48:03 rockchip cgminer[254]: Failed to resolve (?wrong URL) btc.viabtc.com:3333

Please upload a screenshot of your pool/worker settings, you can hide the sensitive details if you wish, but you need to show as much as possible, and before doing so, make sure you copy-paste the URL form the pool and ensure you have no leading/trailing spaces in both the worker as well as the pool url.
3245  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: November 10, 2020, 10:20:27 PM
Thermal cooling adhesive like the one from Arctic will do the job as well, the cheapest would be the "black glue" from China, I am not sure if that's more of solder or thermal adhesive, but it works, and it's dirt cheap, I tried to look for an alternative in the local market but with no luck, I am not even sure how do people here go about fixing heatsinks of other electronic equipment or maybe I didn't know what "material" I should be asking for since the words "solder/adhesive" didn't ring the bell, they would show me thermal paste used for CPUs and be like "this should work".  Undecided
3246  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: November 10, 2020, 08:51:33 PM
We dropped a bit now.

Current Pace:   105.6012%  (1138 / 1077.64 expected, 60.36 ahead)
Current Difficulty:   16787779609932.66
Next Difficulty:   between 17555080551474 and 17744923666082
Next Difficulty Change:   between +4.5706% and +5.7014%
Previous Retarget:   November 3, 2020 at 10:17 AM  (-16.0499%)
Next Retarget (earliest):   Monday at 4:28 PM  (in 5d 18h 34m 17s)
Next Retarget (latest):   Monday at 7:51 PM  (in 5d 21h 57m 7s)

As I said in my previous post, I will be more than glad if we don't go past these levels, I mean look at this:

In mid-October we were at 19.9T difficulty and price at 11.5k, we are now up 30% in price, so even if we go back to the 19T level in difficulty, we are still good.
3247  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Learning/newbie s9 zero hash 100% discarded on: November 10, 2020, 07:43:11 PM
I am glad you got your miner up and running, now for the fan noise part, you can manually set a fixed speed, usually, anything below 40% is "ok", the stock fans are noisy as hell compared to other fans, there are other methods proposed by thierry4wd and phill for noise reduction ( search the forum you will find them).

In order to reduce the fan speed without toasting your miner, you will need to reduce the voltage and the frequency, I suggest you start with a frequency of 475 and 8.0V, this should (at least according to taserz whom I trust) give you 10th at 750 watts, the miner will run pretty cool and if the room temperature isn't bad, I think you might get away with 30% fan speed.
3248  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling top at $16500 (Even Newer!: $2483 bottom 19 Feb 2021 MtGox said so!) on: November 10, 2020, 03:10:51 PM
Finally to those that still use the "BSV shill" phrase - I'm not suggesting anyone buy BSV. It makes no difference to me if people buy it, because if the price goes up for speculative reasons thats meaningless (that person will want to sell it).

Every asset is speculative in nature unless you can't store it, there is no such thing as "true value" or "fair value" if people didn't buy gold for speculative reasons it wouldn't be worth a fraction of what it's worth now, only a small percentage of that gold is actually used.

People look for scarcity, a hedge against other means of assets that are highly inflated, they only do that in an attempt to be able to sell/exchange that asset for a larger value in the future, if people didn't buy BTC or any other crypto for that matter just to be able to exchange them for more, none of those coins would have existed in the first place.

I understand that there are some people who MIGHT be in it " for the technology", I would bet against their existence, or in the worst case, I am sure they are a minority, and the minority doesn't drive the market, it's the majority.

On the other hand, more adoption doesn't always lead to more value, we could have double the adoption with 99% less value, if tomorrow everyone and their grandmother start using bitcoin there is no absolute certainty that price/value will go up, but if they buy it as a store of value instead - price will increase without a doubt.

I do think you are smart, I enjoyed reading your comments, however, the problem with your logic (and most of the BSV, Bcash) supporters is that you seem to think that "useability" and "value" are related, which is NOT the case, the proof is, BSV has much more daily transactions and it's almost free to transact, in fact, BTC is one of the slowest (if not the most)and the most expensive to use, but BTC has 100,000% more value than BSV.

Have you ever thought about the possibility that cryptocurrencies might never beat the old system? what makes you think that a blockchain which is bottlenecked by so many factors will beat a single high-end server in terms of speed and price? maybe the majority of people don't plan on using crypto for their daily payments? if speed and cheap fees are the only two things bitcoin can offer then it's worthless, we already have fast and cheap means of payments.

Maybe if you think about it this way, you will understand that BTC derives its value from "consensus", not only miners' consensus, investors, the average joe, and joe's grandmother, the MAJORITY of people agree on BTC, they have no problem with the blocksize (they probably don't even know what that is), they just know it's a scarce asset, has very low and known inflation rate, secured by tens of thousands of nodes and millions of mining gears, those factors alone have been more than enough to keep BTC as strong as it is today.

The block size debate has been milked a thousand times before, so there is no need to go over it again, and as far as the price expectation, I won't say I am certain that you are completely wrong, I know that the next few months will most likely be bullish across all markets and then soon after that the stock 11-year-old bubble will burst, that will be the first burst with BTC around, we don't know how will crypto market as a whole react to that, it could take it to the moon, or it could drag it down for a multi-year bear market, we shall see.

3249  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain extends warranty period on all new orders on: November 10, 2020, 01:12:49 PM
I strongly believe that this is only a marketing strategy and little to no improvement in terms of quality.

Not really, we know that the 19 series are much more robust than the 17 series, most of us had a very high failure rate on the 17 series with the S17 pro being a kind if expectation,  it has been a few months since the release of 19 series and there isn't any noticeable complains unlike how it was with the 17 series.

The question is, will they extend the warranty on the 17 series as well or not? if they do so, then it means they have fixed the bad solder paste or/and started using better robots/humans to solder those chips and heatsinks, if not - then not.

Or they increase the warranty duration because they know many people don't bother sending gear to china and they could delay the fix/replacement process.

That is a good point, but I don't think they are stupid enough to count on this, the majority of people do send their gears back to Bitmain for repair, 60-70% of these gears won't be leaving China in the first place, Bitmain offers large Chinese miners on-site repair services, it's just a minority of unfortunate miners (like my self) that can't send the gears back to China or any other nearby repair center.
3250  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Learning/newbie s9 zero hash 100% discarded on: November 09, 2020, 11:21:38 PM
does this mean i use one of those old flash files from bitmain for the s9 instead?

There is no need to do that.

Anyway, your current problem is related to installing BraiinOS, I suggest you ask this question here, alternatively, use Vnish (AwesomeMiner or Asic.to), those are easy to deal with, you can flash them from the webpage itself but they both have dev fees.

اتوقع فوز ساحق لترامب.

Grin Grin

3253  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Learning/newbie s9 zero hash 100% discarded on: November 09, 2020, 07:36:55 PM
That was an annoying chore lol.   Who would have thought I would have to resort to command prompt to force a partition on to an SD card.  Windows was completely refusing to partition the SD card larger then 16MB so no files would fit on it.

Stuff like that happens all the time.

The miner has been returned to factory.  With that T9 version. Will attempt a remote upgrade to brains after lunch.

There are 2 versions of BraiinOS, one is free and the other one has dev fees, the latter comes with more features like auto-tune which you might not need, so I would stick to the free version and start with the lowest frequency and increase it one step at a time, you will need a Watmetter or amp clamp of some type to measure the power consumption, you don't want to push past 1000w to be on the safe side.
3254  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain extends warranty period on all new orders on: November 09, 2020, 02:10:42 PM
If they provide repair/replacement without returning it to China.
If they do it quickly. Under 3 weeks
Then it would be really good.

I agree with phil, sending the gear to China cost a lot of money, takes a lot of time and it isn't something I want to do, however, since they now are providing 12 months instead of the regular 6 months warranty, this could be a good indication that the overall quality of their mining gears has improved, if you know your gears tend to fail after 7 months, you will give 6 months warranty, giving 12 months means you trust the quality of your mining gears to likely stand for a whole year, or at least this is how I think of it.

3255  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: بوتات التداول on: November 09, 2020, 01:42:13 PM

3256  Economy / Reputation / Re: nullius abusing his DT powers? Share your thoughts here. on: November 08, 2020, 11:06:31 PM
"Abuse" the DT system, I think these words are getting quite meaningless and getting old..
It's an algorithm, how do you abuse an algorithm? It's not like it has a clutch to burn out..

This would have been true if the existence of the trust system was based on consensus but this is not the case, this isn't BTC blockchain, this forum has admin/s with special privileges therefore it's no longer based on consensus, theymos alone can ban anyone, he can change the algorithm, he can pretty much do anything he wants, and he did set some guideline for the usage of the trust system. if somehow the bad actors become the majority and the trust system doesn't go in the way he wants - he can just change it all together at any given second.

  • As stated below, I also reported that user’s shitpost.  My report was marked as “Good”; and as you can verify for yourself, the post is gone.  For you see:  I do this and that, not this instead of that.  What a difficult concept!
  • As stated below, this occurred in the tech forum.  Spammy shitposters SHALL NOT invade the tech forum.  nullius says so.  You wouldn’t understand.

If you know reporting works what is the point of negative feedback then? as far as I can see, we have a problem (spam) and a solution (report) and this seems to me like (a problem solved), so where does the feedback fit in old wisdom which states "if there is no problem, don't create one"?.

Tagging spammers won't send them away, they probably don't even look at their own feedback, all it does is devalue the trust system, when almost everyone has red/negative feedback on their trust page, that feedback becomes something normal, hard to notice, and pretty much useless.

rfpool.org:3334 is connected to solo.ckpool.org:3333 (ckpool in Passthrough mode)

Just to double-check, stratum+tcp://rfpool.org:3333 still works and does the same thing that stratum+tcp://rfpool.org:3334 does, true?

The use is free as long as I am able to pay this thing.

Thank you for doing this, if you want, you could post your BTC address here, or start a dedicated topic for rfpool and those who use would help fund it, while I don't personally need a passthrough, for now, I will be more than happy to help you fund the server.

3259  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Learning/newbie s9 zero hash 100% discarded on: November 08, 2020, 05:32:52 PM
There is a good chance that the Sdcard you using is bad, I am sure almost everyone has experienced such a thing before, some of those Sdcard simply won't work on the S9 flash.

Also, there is a chance that you might be doing something wrong, my advice would be this.

Use the stock recovery files, download from this link https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image

Make sure you use this version (t9+ -SD Tools.zip), do not under any circumstances use the S9 version which was published a few weeks ago, also to be on the safe side I would use the stock recovery files but download them from elsewhere such as from here https://vnish.ru/en/firmware/antminer-s9.html or ask one of the trusted members here to send it to you, just in case the publish date for the t9 files on Bitmain's website is incorrect, you simply want to avoid anything new form bitmain because that will make things even worse.

Follow this guide to flash the miner: https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019493654-S9-series-S9-S9i-S9j-S9-Hydro-Control-Board-Program-Recovery

If that does not work, try a different Sdcard.
3260  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Rack Style Mining (AntRack) on: November 08, 2020, 04:53:57 PM

Main features:

hot-swappable design of the AntRack allows replacing the hash board with the latest generation chipsets (7nm to 5nm, 3nm, and 1nm)

each server of AntRack has PSU’s which provide 3+1 redundant operations to ensure that mining is never interrupted.

Source: https://blog.bitmain.com/en/bitmain-releases-rack-style-new-miner-bringing-next-level-computing-power/

This will be water-cooled, plug and play style, I am not sure why they decided to go with the expensive water cooling style, is it because the next 5, 3, and 1nm can't be cooled with the normal air cooling? While this seems like a great idea, I am pretty sure the price will be unbelievably expensive, the maintenance of the water cooling system isn't going to be cheap as well.

The good thing about it is that when you upgrade you don't throw away a whole miner, imagine if you could use the same S9 or even S7 and just have to swap the hashboard for the new once and/or PSU? how much money could one have saved through all these years? Huh

Another point would be how likely are we going to get to that 1nm technology,  how much improvement in terms of efficiency do we expect?

What are your thoughts?
