@Tomatocage, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just continue to be obvious and I'll continue to add your alts to the scammer list. Though I don't even know why I bother since people don't pay attention to it. Good luck with your future scams.

@TF How much did you end up sending him?
3264  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [EDU] How to spot a scammer (Read this before doing any transactions!) on: March 05, 2013, 04:45:57 PM
Alright, so I've been PM'd by a few people what red-flags to look out for since I have a pretty good track record of spotting scammers.  Sometimes I get it wrong, but better safe than sorry.  Anyway, watch out for the typical behavior from scammers who will usually fit at least two or three (and sometimes even more) of the following characteristics:

1. New account (usually created within the last 3 months, plus or minus)
2. Low-medium message count with vapid posts of little to no contributatory value
3. Use of a seemingly realistic first/last name as their forum account name
4. Signs posts with full name
5. Straight out of Newbie mode right into Lending (requesting a loan of course)
6. Straight out of Newbie mode right into Currency Exchange (PayPal, Liberty Reserve, Western Union)
7. Straight out of Newbie mode and selling gift cards/codes/Steam games of any kind
(they'll often be purchased with stolen CC info, leaving you holding the bag later on down the road)
8. Any user blatantly claiming to be female
9. New user trying to sell an Apple iAnything
10. Sob stories asking for handouts

There.  Pretty much in a nutshell how to spot a scammer.  There's still some finesse to spotting a scammer, but these rules will separate most of the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.  Oh, and I guess there's one more rule:

11. Never trust ANYBODY.  Except people who like big butts.  Because they can not lie.

* Account appears to have been abandoned once it was flagged as a scammer, or became apparent he wasn't getting a loan.

Please note that the accounts listed above aren't necessarily or automatically assumed to be scammers. They just fit the description, so to speak.

Examples of posts that fit the pattern that were successful:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137766.0 MoneypakTrader.com (Successful Trades!, Has completed a few successful transactions. As always, use caution, even when dealing with senior members)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=136132.0 DPony13 (Successful Loan! 2.5 BTC)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=122658.0 xx78213 (Successful Loan! .2 BTC)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=123728.0 heart_mons (Successful Loan! 5 BTC)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134847.0 Jakers (Successful Trade!, iTunes codes)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134918.0 polymorphous (Successful Trade! 2.0 BTC)

TLDR: Be careful before you freely give away your coins. From the evidence collected here, you stand substantial chance of getting ripped off if lending to someone who fits the scammer profile.  If that chance is worth making an extra 1-10% on your money, I can't stop you.  But I will laugh at you later Smiley

OP Backup.

@ tomatocage I see that you edited the title of the post. I would like to start one that is titled master scammer list. Do you mind if I copy from your post to start as the base for the list?

I personally still wouldn't click on the post because I feel that I already know how to spot a scammer. I would how ever click on a link of a list of scammers as a cross reference before trading with new users.

You're certainly welcome to start your own list. My list was intended as a proactive reference for people to use to hopefully avoid being scammed. And as such, it contains people who might not yet be labeled with the "Scammer" tag, but their behavior might match that of people whose actions might not be completely above board.
3268  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Jason Shea aka CardinalG - Internet scammer. on: March 04, 2013, 08:40:10 PM
I dont feel bad for her at all or the child for that matter... I hope the child ends up in a foster home.  Better than growing up with scammer parents who are going to teach it to be like them.  Fuck them both.

That's a little harsh, homey. I think the focus should be on Jason Shea the scammer, not necessarily his g/f.

Um no,the emergency was getting the coins in time before a certain product offer was over. Thanks for the useless fucking input you assholes like to provide too, many thanks. Just what I need to hear after getting robbed. Grow the hell up and help people out once in a while. Theres an old saying,if you don't have anything nice to say, keep your damn mouth shut! Especially when its none of your fucking business!

I'm sorry you were robbed, but this is precisely why I had created the list of people who fit the scammer profile (see sig). If you had paid attention to the list (and more importantly, avoided doing business with people listed therein), you wouldn't be in this situation.
3273  Economy / Lending / Re: 3BTC Loan - Repayable on Wednesday With 30% Interest Added! on: March 04, 2013, 05:58:18 PM

How does that make me a scammer? Assumptions and accusations are useless without any fact. Just because someone asks for a loan, doesn't mean they're trying to scam you. It's still a business proposition and profitable for both parties in its' own way as long as each are legit. You can't say I'm legit without knowing. I understand assuming the worst, but accusing is a whole different story.

@Blazr - I'm not active in the BTC community, but I'm active in other marketplace oriented communities.

Yeah, fuck off, douche. You're going to get what's coming to you real soon Grin

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I can't seem to get the transaction fee setting to "stick" after I close the client.  It only works for as long as the client stays running, and if I shut it down and restart it again the transaction fee to send goes back to .00000000 BTC. Any ideas on this one?

If the person claims to be female, there's a 99.99% chance it's a scam. If that .01% chance is worth taking to make like 3% on your money, go for it.
3277  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Jason Shea aka CardinalG - Internet scammer. on: March 04, 2013, 02:23:20 PM
You guys really should do a search before doing business on here. It costs you nothing but a few keystrokes and a mouse-click.

Good job. Please keep me updated.
He scammed me 3300 CAD in total.
so the total number he scammed from people is no less than $9500. Could be much higher.

We had very similar experience with him. Believed him only because he's in Canada. Cannot believe he's sooo crazy

Details?
