why must devcoin wallet look so different than any other wallet I have ever installed?

What kind of version of qt is this?

or isn't it at all?

Anyone with even remotely HALF a life, would spend energy promoting something something they believe in, but NOT very much, if any, bashing something they do not believe in.

While I agree with you, we have to differentiate a little bit here.

There are obvious trolls who will bash anything they can, all the time.

But there is real justified criticism against quark, that has to be adressed so quark can advance. Not die, but advance.

If quark was dead or dying I wouldn't give a shit and just move on. But that's not the case.

After all, for me quarkcoin is like in beta phase still, and needs much more done in development, publicity and management.

The best way to shut up the obvious trolls is to advance those three areas of quark.

indeed,  let the market decide -  good times .

I have not yet seen anything with qrk that can be called a "market" .

We have a tiny few overwhelmed exchanges that let you trade in and out of QRK, and its a pain in the ass.

Qrk needs more exchanges, and more liquid ones... only then will a real price discovery start to form...

If you look around you and all you see is sheep then you should be able to realise that you are part of a herd.

Brilliantly said.

It's called contrarian investing style. If you want to succeed you must do the opposite of what the masses are doing.
Because the masses only start to move when they are driven into the slautherhouse, OR when they are in general panic mode (with generally comes after they recognize they are in the slautherhouse)

Unfair and tragic? Yes, but that's investment world for you. What do all those sheeple expect? That they will all turn millionaires within a month?

The darwinist in me tells me that they deserve to lose all their money.

 Undecided

But then again, this is the new cryptoworld, and we see billions of dollars leaving the fiat world, and entering the cryptoworld... so millionaires will be made alright.

Kolin Evans was never a "Quark Developer" (as he claimed to be in the Bill Still interview). That was a lie - Quark "enthusiast" would have been a more appropriate title.
Kolin is a Quark enthusiast.
I wish that Max was the mouth of Quark as well as the developer.  A nice, cool, calm answer to all the points made.  You didn't put anyone down, no holier than thou BS.  Good work.

This. But then again, quark is young... I haven't given up my hope yet.

Over time, quark will attract the right people and repell the wrong ones...

And if it doesn't it will simply die... it's really that simple.

So, if quark is still around in two years,... i assume it will have had all its management problems solved, or else it would have simply died out.

I see it as a kind of evolution. If quark survives I am sure it will be strong as hell... if anything survives all this shit talk, it will be stronger at the end.

Sometimes you should listen to (or at least consider) what your enemies say... they are the only ones who might be telling you the truth, in your face.
All the sycophants and yes-mans are sure not going to tell you when there is a problem.

Asic are tools designed for a special purpose.
Wait till an asic designed for scrypt hits the market , it won't be too long , especially with LTC value increasing.

+1, that is true.

Why all the ASIC bashing in this thread?

Have we forgotten what we owe our older brother bitcoin?

I am a big fan of ASICs much like I am a big fan of technology.

Every ASIC is different, there can potentially be unlimited amounts of different ASICs... it's not only sha-256 ASICs.

An ASIC is like an algorithm hardcoded into a chip. For me, that is pure art, to eternalize an algorithm into a hardware chip.

Ow gush Connery was also young!! I thougth he always was old!

hahahaha!!!  Grin Cheesy

People, we agree that both bikini models look great (dead or alive) but I am talking about the value of the material applied on their body. :-)

The gold cover is much more evenly spread out, while the quark cover looks messy, almost perverted.
3288  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 13, 2013, 06:02:56 PM
Sorry, quark, but gold wins.  Grin

Both look good to me.  Good example of the benefits of having a diverse portfolio

Touché!

at this moment, devcoin has the biggest volume of all currencies traded at vircurex.com

fascinating.

I appreciate your input.  But when pasting your data into the gadget, it still doesn't work.  On an aside, I do have the BTC and LTC gadgets working, so I am not in totally new territory here.

Before you copy any api-call into a gadget, first test what the api call actually returns if you simply open the call in a browser window:

http://pubapi.cryptsy.com/api.php?method=singlemarketdata&marketid=71

So this is the singlemarketdata method.
Maybe you are looking for another method...

or, as you see when you look at the result of this api call... its a json array with many many different rates of the last hours or so.

You probably only need the first item of this array...

and that's probably why your gadget doesn't work with it. Because they expect a single line, not a large array.

Just got interested in devcoin.
How does this wallet work? How do I back it up?
And is this address the right one? 1BzQbNRzLVvgKQqM3HsF3nvC8fJEXr55N3

I see lots of people's adress start with 19 but mine with 1Bz?

Need some answers first before I buy some devcoins.

And my dev adress starts with 1KL...

So don't worry. as long as it starts with a 1 you are good.
3292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 13, 2013, 03:11:26 PM
So I downloaded this MyCoins gadget for Win 7 from http://domchi.cc/mycoins/index.htm

Installed it, no prob.  Now here's the hard part.  I can't get the darned thing to work!

I have tried the following API sources:

http://pubapi.cryptsy.com/api.php?method=singlemarketdata&marketid=QRK/BTC

and

https://bter.com/api/1/ticker/qrk_btc

Has anyone ever gotten this thing to work?  Your suggestion and sources are welcome.  Go QRK!

http://pubapi.cryptsy.com/api.php?method=singlemarketdata&marketid=QRK/BTC
is incorrect api usage.

You have to do it like this:

Open the QRK BTC chart:

https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/71

what is the number you see in the url?

71

this is the marketid

so you have to apply an api call like this:
http://pubapi.cryptsy.com/api.php?method=singlemarketdata&marketid=71

and it works.
3293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 13, 2013, 02:30:44 PM
why isn't quark used as a supercomputer for the large hadron collider program to understand the behaviour of the quark particles?
Same with gold. Humanity uses enormous amount of energy to mine a metal that doesn't do anything...we just sit on it...or in best case use for exchange.
No. Gold is not only used in jewelry, finances and investing but due to its nature of being a highly efficient conductor it is also used in electronics and computers. It is further used in dentistry and medicine as well as in aerospace and more. It is basically used in a wide variety of industries.

Yes...but that is a tiny tiny amount compared to the amount we just sit on.
And it's not like it's needed for our teeth. Not like our survival depends on it. I'm sure a less energy intensive material would do just as fine a job.

+1, exactly.

But there is a reason why all cultures around the world, in all history have valued gold.

It's beautiful, and for a blacksmith gold is THE most wonderful material to work with, because you can bring it in any form you want, without much hassle.

Yes, but thats only the case because gold is highly malleable... meaning you can create extremely thin layers of gold...

if that weren't the case, nobody would care to use gold as an efficient conductor, because it would cost a lot of money...

but since you can create gold leafs of only a few atoms (!) thickness, you can easily cover anything with gold.

Most famous example:

lol, try and do that with quark, and you get something like:

Sorry, quark, but gold wins.  Grin

phew, I hope I have finally arrived at the real devcoin thread.

I started here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.3580

and they told me to go here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233228.60

but that thread was closed with a redirection telling me to go here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=233997.0

So since this is the first place where I am allowed to write, I assume it's the correct one.

I have a question about the main devcoin.org site.

There seem to be two dead links, both at the third paragraph:

Quote
...share with the DevCoin community over our thread at BitcoinTalk.org Forum

and

Quote
...if that's the case, please submit it to XXXX

I have seen those two links dead for some while now, and I wonder if that's really the face you want to show first time visitors who are interested in devcoin.

Please can you fix that?

Thanks.

+1... Peercoin & Devcoin may make a rise... but nothing like Quark & Worldcoin... marketing... your forgetting marketing... devcoin is useless there... so is peercoin

I sold all my ixcoins yesterday, and converted them to devcoins.

So from a worthless bitcoin clone with premine (ixcoin) , to an ethical currency (devcoin) that may not have a commercial marketing behind it, but nonetheless a grassroots marketing like wikipedia has, creating knowledge and opensource in the process.
Devcoin and Namecoin are mergemined coins who really make sense. Why ixcoin is mergemined makes no sense to me.

I think devcoin will have success, because it doesn't care about ups and downs of the market, it has an "intrinsic value"  much like namecoins have (bitdomain space)...

It's a pity that quark has no additional value like those coins... why isn't quark used as a supercomputer for the large hadron collider program to understand the behaviour of the quark particles?

lol, jk

back to qrk.
3297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 13, 2013, 11:48:27 AM
am i reading this correctly that basically all QRKs have already been mined?

Yes, basically.

It took 6 months to mine as many qrks (250 million)
as it will take 250 years to mine the same amount again from now on. (1 million per year)

Cool

No other coin has this distribution of mining, if it is bad or good, only future adoption will tell.

am i reading this correctly that basically all QRKs have already been mined?

246 million are mined...

now every year another 1 million coins can be mined.

so yes, the large part has been mined. But there is no max limit of coins...
3299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 13, 2013, 10:46:44 AM

wtf. how you do mine 12-14 quark with an 8 core. I'm trying with my amd 2x cpu 12 core...still can't get any shares.Sad

how many kilohash do you achieve?

with what miner?

what pool?

how long have you tested?
3300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: December 13, 2013, 10:43:04 AM
Lol, no. It's just so annoying that they didn't bought anything yet. The whole world is waiting on those yellow fuckers and they keep disappointing us.
I'm very angry atm.

And no, i didn't put more in it than i can afford  Grin

Really... I am not waiting for anybody.

Does the world owe you something?

For QRK to succeed we all must participate and create the community. That's the only real stable growth for qrk.

You just want to dump your QRK on the poor chinese... but they are not stupid, I tell you.

You know what, I expect NOTHING will come from the btc38 listing of qrk, not even the max keiser interview will boost QRK very much.

Instead qrk will have a healthier organic growth over the next months.

All this pumping and speculating is very unhealthy for any cryptocurrency anyway... what is necessary for longtime success is organic growth, and nothing else.
