Economic activity actually falls to the currency that is being used, and bitcoins isn't a currency recognized by the global world. So your sadly mistaken.

Are you claiming that barter, being economic activity that doesn't use a medium of exchange (or currency), is not regulated (let's say, in the United States)?

Bartering is regulated to some degree by the united states, i am claiming a currency that isn't recognized globally can't be regulated.

I never said they were controlling, nor do I have any proof. All I'm saying is, that it is a possibility.

IN MY OPINION, history has shown that:
The state is always trying to make money out of you and control you. If they see the potential, they will pull out the big guns if its worth it for them.

I am pretty sure that would violate many amendments and laws, and if that was true, why have no companies been shutdown or brought to trial?

The men with guns make the laws and determine how they are applied. There probably have been some that were shut down, though I don't know who off the top of my head. More common is for them to fall in line and comply with all regulations the regulators say apply, under threat of violence.

Until there is any court case, your arguments is invalid, and the people who fall in line are just not strong enough to handle bleeding edge communities like this.

Where is the proof that they are controlling bitcoin business? Your opinion is invalid no facts to even prove that.

very slim possibility, you have a better chance of meeting an alien

If you think a court would agree that economic activity does not fall under the jurisdiction of the country in which it takes place, merely because the medium of exchange is bitcoin, you are both sadly mistaken and extremely naive.

Actually you can't impose regulations on a business that has no fiat currency. If you deal with fiat currency and bitcoins then you have to pay taxes, and do everything by the book. But if you use only bitcoins then you don't have to worry.

The men with guns can enforce whatever regulations on you that they wish. To think otherwise is fantasy.

Is it right that they do this? No, but they do it anyway.

I am pretty sure that would violate many amendments and laws, and if that was true, why have no companies been shutdown or brought to trial?

How about in the case of GLBSE?

What I meant was rules and regulations can be imposed on business using bitcoin depending where they are.

What do you mean have at it?

There may be no rules and regulations in Bitcoin, although that does not mean rules and regulations cannot be enforced on Bitcoin.

There are no laws and regulations in bitcoins so have at it.

Actually it does mean that no rules or regulations can be enforced upon bitcoins, that is beauty of bitcoins that is why they are amazing!

He never claimed any agency shut him down, and to be honest he thought he could be jailed but he obviously can't since there is no fiat currency and no bitcoin laws. Remember if bitcoins get shutdown or a business operating in the realm of bitcoins with no fiat currency gets shutdown, then second life, blizzard, and any virtual currency would be subject to being shutdown as well. So basically it will never happen.

Where do the returns come from?  Are you basically paying an unknown person BTC so they can mine on your behalf?

They aren't unknown and basically your helping them fund their mining farm, so you get a return like a loan.

I notice you display when users use Tor. Does this mean that you log I.P addresses? And if so, do you release that information when a borrower defaults?

It only takes one time to login in with tor to get the tor symbol and I hope they log ips of borrowers.
3334  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 06, 2012, 08:01:18 PM
You're exactly right only the big fish need worry. Hope he keeps to him self and they don't have record of them. All the small fish need not worry but don't expect Nefario to go out of his way to take care of you if it steps on any government toes right now he wont do it. For all one knows he bites the bullet gets the law off his back and does everyone right in time. Someone of that caliber is rare and should not be expected. You do dirt you get dirt sometimes. That's how the game works.

I did nothing wrong.  All I did was open an account (on Oct 4th), and deposit 50 BTC.  Then boom, it's all gone.  I wanted to buy some shares of ASICMINER, but did not get the chance to.

How is any of this "dirt"?

You became involved with an illegal activity as soon as you deposited. You got in the dirt. Not your fault for what has occurred but it's the law intervening that is at fault. Not being diligent enough to know the risk involved was yours however.

I'm not here to cast blame on anyone other than the law. Just pointing out where one's responsibility ends and where another's begins.

Where are these laws? Bitcoins has no laws, and no fiat currency was used in GLBSE.
3335  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GLBSE users: how to continue your relationship with asset issuers on: October 06, 2012, 07:17:27 PM
Hopefully after glbse releases the database of assets, the issuers will be able to convert them to a service like https://assets-otc.com/

Though the Bitcoin equities world is in a bit of chaos right now regarding GLBSE, here's a bit of good news... the new site is up and running at the live test URL:

http://src.satoshidice.com/rev2/

I'd love any feedback! We'll put this at SatoshiDice.com in a couple days.

The counters, blink like they are reloading but they numbers don't change. They should blink if the number gets updated, if not then nothing should be done. Plus the red colors in the tabs, like recent, doesn't really fit with the green it is two different contrasts, that don't fit well together. Otherwise I like the site redesign.
3337  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 06, 2012, 06:37:34 PM

It will only be illegal if its not shut down. It currently isnt illegal.

If nefario has been told to shut it down and complies there is no issue.

Rubbish.  He can still be charged over the period he was operating the exchange illegally, although the penalties would most likely be administrative.  Whether the FSA/SEC or whomever would actually pursue charges is a different issue but we're not talking about a restraining order/injunction here where the obligation to refrain from a behaviour doesn't start until a legal request to desist is issued and non-compliance with that request creates the illegality.

No bitcoin.me is correct.

I rob banks all the time and when they say stop I stop. Then they can't put me in jail.

lol.

Robbing banks is illegal in the first place. Bitcoin is unregulated and there are no laws in existence to deal with it and glbse never took in fiat. Its  a massive grey area and you cant retroactively change laws and make them apply in the past. Its not clear the same laws apply to bitcoin at all.

I thought that GLBSE couldn't be regulated because of exactly that.. They deal with bitcoin and not any legal tender. While it may be a grey area, I dont think its black and white.. Could someone with more SEC knowledge explain to me why a GLBSE is illegal? I understand that its dealing with stocks, etc but legally, no money is exchanging hands..

S.E.C deals with securities in USD so this has nothing to do with the SEC. Since GLBSE is in UK and doesn't deal with fiat currency, but they decided they would pay taxes. So technically they made themselves illegal but doing that, plus nefario was talking about how he wants to go legit and that would require lawyers and stuff like that. They basically shot themselves in the foot.

Not a bug, theymos added height restrictions to sigs. Good change, it's annoying seeing a 7 or 8 line sig, after a one line post.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=114728.0

Is there any way to change it back? cause I really don't care about the height of a signature

Here is my raw signature,

and on the forum it is displayed as,

so that would be a bug
