3341  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 20, 2015, 07:04:10 PM
Thread has slowed down.  To be honest I have a feeling it has to do with Bitmain's recent price drops.

As far as this miner still have the 2 running.  Both run very reliable, I still have 1 PSU that seems to run a little around 11.9.  I honestly suggest to go with nice server PSU with voltage adjustment if possible.  Although I am enjoying the efficiency though still.  Below is pick of them running currently:

3342  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: December 20, 2015, 10:16:58 AM
Any chance that you have messed with the Default Frequency?  The range has been all over the place on each batch and I was wondering if the Default Frequency of 700 on Batch 8 limits the overclocking ability?

thanks....

I think most will leave at default frequency. I don't expect anyone to really push it with it being at so high already.  It is pushing freq on default as shown below:

I do not think they will keep jumping all over on range for near future, but I could be wrong.  They have gotten a design that I think they will stick with, Batch 9 has same specs as Batch 8.   Also still on issue of running I sent that email asking on efficiency I am hoping Monday i get something back.
3343  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 20, 2015, 02:40:07 AM
Where are you pointing all that hash?

Usually between westhash and f2pool - whichever one is higher payout at the moment.
I've written scripts to manage the miners and change pools according to highest payout.
Sometimes I'll swing them at a PPLNS pool if I think it's due to have a good day, but mostly leave it auto to PPS pools.

How often does westhash win?  It seems like nice/westhash have been below bitcoin payments most of time unless I have missed something.
3344  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo mining on an Antminer U3 on: December 20, 2015, 12:16:44 AM
well yeah then start today and the kids of your kids will take something from it still if you are lucky to find a block and untill that time you would have burn 10x electricity what you gonna get after o not a good move

These are pretty low power machines I think it is funner to solo mine them.  Lucky or not 50-60 GH is just not a ton of hash if you point at pool...  that is just small.

I have 3 U3's all solo for fun, I don't expect a return from them but I enjoy them.  My compacs are funner as they use less electricity.  I just think certain miners are so small they are best for learning or solo.

*Shorted was way to long

Do you have any proof that this forum is helping China to run so called "cersorship"?
so-called-censorship?  haha, leck mich !!!

I just remembered isnt this site blocked in china? ( http://www.blockedinchina.net/?siteurl=https%3A%2F%2Fbitcointalk.org )  I think it is but I could be wrong.

I would think if they were helping China on censorship they would be allowed to be viewed on China's internet?
3346  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain shipping policy on: December 19, 2015, 09:55:54 PM
There was a pretty big drop between S7 and S8  miners.  It's possible those re sellers have stock of older higher priced miners, and EU honestly always seems high on miners with VAT/Import.

But yes most likely you get a S8 and pay import direct from bitmain without re seller, and it will be cheaper.  Your cutting out a middle guy.

You mean batch 7 and batch 8??

Sorry about that yes mean different batches.  Batch 7 was quite a bit higher then batch 8.  But it also is faster (and quite possibly more efficient).

So there are arguments I can see for a higher price on batch 7.  But not to the extent you mentioned above.
3347  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain shipping policy on: December 19, 2015, 09:45:19 PM
Thanks a lot. I am asking because if i want to buy from a reseller i have to pay 2200€ + shipping cost

http://asicminer-shop.de/Bitmain-Antminer-S7-47-TH-s-B8_1
http://www.antminerdistribution.com/antminer-s7-released-soon/
If i buy it from bitmain, i'll pay 1300€+ 23%vat (Greece) = 1600€ + shipping cost

Are my calculations wrong???

3348  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks closed. on: December 19, 2015, 09:40:11 PM
I am late to the mining game but back in 2012-2013-2014 how many ASIC manufacturers were there? There must of been dozens since mining was so profitable.

A lot came out in fall of 2013  when coins  went from 90 to 1100

We made 170 blocks yesterday.
Since  the day was part old diff and part new diff the 170 reads high if you based it on the new diff.

Today will be the first all 93 diff number.

My guess is  we will be under 15.
I think quite a bit of last weeks jump was the bit fury mine going on line.

A lot shared chips at beginning.  Look at A1 chips for example.  It's hard to tell how many used them in their miner.   But it seemed lots more makers of machines then of chips.

Now it seems company makes chips and miner (for most part).  So it really does limit it quite a bit more now.  I don't see chips being sold like they were during first asics.
3349  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie wanting to get into mining. Needs help! on: December 19, 2015, 09:36:25 PM
Not sure making one dollar a day is worth it. Would I be better of just trying out the S3 or go for something like the Spondoolie SP20 Where I'd be making a little more.

Honestly if I were you I think you need to do a little more research.  I would HIGHLY recommend not ordering till you have done a little more, just seems a lot of questions.  They are valid questions but I suggest getting researching before you do any ordering.

I suggest looking up your exact electricity cost (include taxes/fees).   After that look at ROI, research it at different percentages.   Try different miners at ROI it is good practice if noting else.   After all that... research miners a little more.   Assuming you do all that then come back.  Decide if your doing for profit or learning.... and see if that is possible.

Then start looking at buying.  It easily could take day's to go through all of this, there is no need to rush decision.
3350  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: December 19, 2015, 09:30:33 PM
*snip was really long quote
Before btc was 200 usd I cant find miners in china ....now when btc high again then can find too much .... I think seller will hold selling s7 when btc down

Where were you looking at for miners?  In china even during 200 day's you should have found a TON of miners.  A decent amount of the companies are there.... so it is not hard.

What site or where were you looking?  I've never heard of someone in China having trouble finding miners.

Sure www.taobao.com
This can trust

Not have big hash miners . The best here is s7

I want similar yesminer or miner labs very high hash

hope you did not buy a 'yesminer' that is a scam.........see the threads on it on

www.litecointalk.org

no release to 3rd party testers.....(for example doggie on bitcointalk.org and others) shady video....etc etc

anyway be warned probably sfards (if you can find one) avalon bitmain are the only ones shipping now of any real note trustworthy wise as to ROI wise doubtful on any!

This avalon ..S7 now not profitable... you see difficulty is very high now .... and continue to be more and more high .... I think three month later can't pay avalon electricity ....

Yesminer they are scam .... ok
What about minerslab ? Also scam ?

I never heard of it and no one ever made a post about receiving one in the hardware section, so probably. The price look less scammy, but the specs looks totally scammy. Its all rendered images and different products use the same picture.

The efficiency is to be doubted. I'm pretty sure it exist right now, but not in public/production stage right now. (under 0.1J/W)

I'd stay away. Right now there's only the Avalon6 and the S7. And if a couple of diff bump down the road, will make you unable to ROI the Avalon, then you're definitively mining at an electricity rate that you should not be mining on.

Honestly that is a crap site.  Last I heard of them was Itunes at one point they were FULL of carded Itunes cards.  It's like a ebay but less checks as far as legit items, unless that taobao.com has changed.

I would not order a miner there.  It is geared 100 percent for China market though.   Still lot better sites to order direct from like bitmain or ehash (Avalon).  They are legit China sellers.
3351  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain shipping policy on: December 19, 2015, 09:24:50 PM
Hi all,
I would like to know if i can buy from bitmain's site (https://bitmaintech.com/product.htm) for delivery in EU.
Has anybody that kind of experience?

If what ways are you wondering? If you meant import taxes/vat yes you will owe that.

That is normally the most common question as far as EU.  But yes they ship to EU no issues as far as ordering and being there as far as delivery.
3352  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: December 19, 2015, 07:50:31 PM
problem
chrome extension
hacker makes a extension that looks the same but says "error on device, please type in backup seed to restore device"

... and then your coins are gone..

trezor/keepkey still havnt solved this very easy exploit

Any competent Trezor owner knows that the restore seed is entered in random order as requested by messages on the Trezor screen.

Just ignore him, obvious he has never owned a Trezor but likes to trash talk.

I appreciate sharing the info.  I had not done a restore yet, but that is good to know it's secure as-well.

It's information like that why I appreciate all the input this thread has gotten.

I got my KeepKey in, btw! It's interesting, to say the least. Took a while to figure out how to use it with MultiBit HD (you HAVE to close Chrome to do so, which is annoying). Still messing with it but it's a great little device.

I can confirm I also got that.  I opened Chrome and it seems to use the KeepKey on it's extension by default.  I closed it and was able to bring up MultiBit HD like normal.

Still working that is first issue I have experienced first hand thanks for sharing.  This is why I like having these threads where multiple people can submit results.
3353  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need Help with New S7 Batch 8 on: December 19, 2015, 07:46:52 PM
I finally got my new 220v outlets installed to start up my S7s today. One of them I got on and configured no problem. The other S7 doesnt turn on at all, no lights, nothing. The power supply sound goes on. I am using the power supplies BITMAIN sells. What are the troubleshooting steps? What are the possibilities that could be wrong?

Whats should the frequency be set for the one that is running, its on the default of 700. Also about how long does it take to get up full speed?

Many Thanks!

 - Dave

so lets go slow.

did you turn the psu on and plug in hot pcie cables?

or did you plug in all the pcie cables and then turn the psu on?

if you plugged in all the pcie cables with the psu turned off then power the psu on that was correct.

if you had the psu on and plugged in hot pcie cables that was bad and you may have killed the controller.

Everything was plugged into prior to powering the S7. I wanted to let the other one run for bit before swapping the power supplies as a test. Is there a right way to power the other one down before swapping power supplies

The everything plugged in scares me hearing.  As phil mentioned paying with hot/live cables is not the way to do it.

On my 240 I don't have a power switch on PDU it's live, so I end up turning the breaker off. Not the cleanest I wish power switch on PDU, but still much better then plugging in live PCIe cables.

*Forgot to mention it seems my PDU does a internal check before letting power through it.  So it could be cleaner then I thought just unsure.  It seems to do checks then turn on ports I owe phil as I got a huge deal on my PDU.   Many features I have not used that it is suppose to do.
3354  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: December 19, 2015, 07:35:44 PM
Here is running at around 17 hour's.  Getting right around 4.7 TH all default settings.

3355  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: December 19, 2015, 05:54:01 AM
Barely 4.73th as advertised. Getting about 4.6-4.7th

Mine has still not been on very long around 4 hours my average is: 4,710.30 .   It is using the bitmain PSU on a 240.  Still don't have the tools to measure watts yet.

I will let it run over the night and post a screenshot in morning a 12 hour test hopefully will be a little faster then my 4 hour one but chances are it will remain close to what it is now.

I'm getting about 1440watts. Using 2 ibm 1440watter to power the miner.

Thank You! I appreciate measuring it.  With my current 240 setup my normal means of measuring are not working.  What speed are you getting at that wattage?
3358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: December 19, 2015, 04:16:44 AM
Here's something to get out of the way right away;

1. Hash Rate: 4.73 TH/s ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1293W
3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH

1293/4730 = 0.27~ Efficiency. So it is 0.25 efficient or not. It says +10% at the wall, as if you have to add it to the 1293W, then that would be even less efficient. So what is the truth?

They do give it a percentage where at the wall it is higher like you mentioned.

1. Hash Rate: 4.73 TH/s ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1293W + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)
3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp)

I will send them a email to verify if it is closer to .27 on actual at wall. (It's weekend in China I might not have a instant anwser).

Don't bother, they aren't to be trusted. We need to measure these things our selves. I'll eventually get around to measuring DC and AC on my B8 and post results.

I should get an official anwser in email, but I expect it to be during the business week most likely.  But your input is very much appreciated if you do measure it and post your results in thread.

Bah, why not check with a wattmeter what the draw at the wall is for Batch 8? For example the S5 says 0.51J/W, and i get 0.49J/W actual. If for the S7, its 0.27J actual at the wall, then its not 0.25J efficiency at all. If you add a 10% to that, you're almost at 0.3J/W efficiency. Either way it sound like its not 0.25J anymore, since the first few batches which actually were.

For previous batches people reported that this time around (For the S7 overall), the efficiency rating listed was DC, not actual consumption. And that J/GH has been getting worse as later batches came to be.

Part of the reason for this thread is that things have changed since Batch 1's so much.  The reason I don't have a wattage like I normally do is it's on a 240 which with current equipment closest I can get is in amps... so not to good.  We want more accurate then me guessing, and I expect that to come.

I realize you want exact and correct numbers so were on same page as far as what we want.   Just give it a few day's or little time before bashing it to much.  The goal is to get accurate information as most of reviews were based on old batches (1 was most).  I think we need a more up to date look at it.   And as people report usage with different PSU's it will come I think.

Also put the ** above in specs showing it is being looked at.  I hope that will allow us a little time to get different PSU's and efficiency.
3359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help setting up miner on: December 19, 2015, 04:03:13 AM
Take a time and look here in the Bitcointalk. There is Mining section where you can find answers for questions how and with which equipment start mining. Just stay away of cloud mining it's not fun and you will be in lost.

Most of the GUIMiner stuff will be in altcoin section.  There is a lot of old stuff for it as it really is not something many do at this point.  And the ones who do tend to be able to use command line at this point.

But take a look at altcoin section if you really want GUIMiner for some reason.  I would suggest instead getting some USB stick miner and learn mining with it, you wont make money but good learning.
3360  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator who works for china banned me 5 days in this forum on: December 19, 2015, 04:00:45 AM
the decision to make me 5 days ban and 10days ban is totally bullshit which it itself proved
Wrong. That is your subjective opinion. Moderators have the right to asses the situation and decide then, also the banning process takes time (i.e. admins review it before acting upon it). Your ban(s) was deserved. The best thing that you could do now is try and improve your habits.

no no no, you are wrong

the best thing that you could do now is try and improve your habits.

congratulation, you are on my paper too, each word you write will be recorded

I think you need to take a step back and breath.  Honestly getting worked up and going after mod's/admin's is not going to help you.   I would assume if anything you would annoy them and either ignore or another ban happens.

Looking at first post just a little bit of it:
Moderator who works for china banned me 5 days in this forum due to fact that I support freedom and democracy by uploading articles here.

You realize this is a online forum not a country?   There is not like a bill of rights or something for it.... we are guests and have to abide by rules of the forum.   If mod's/admin's want to ban someone they could for no reason..... but as far as I have seen there is always a good reason and if not they let you talk it out in meta which they don't have to do.  That is for the users benefit.

RT ‏@ChStraesser  : #HumanRights are universal, for everyone, everywhere. Still #HRDay2015 in some parts of the world! #u4humanrights

I am honestly not sure if you understand and are trolling.  Or don't understand.  It is interesting to say the least.

Do you get this is a forum not a country?  It is owned ..... it is a privilege to be allowed to post and be on here there is no right guaranteeing  you being a member here.  It's not a human right's issue.  Do you see that this is a forum at least?
