The design and the functionality of the KeepKey Hardware wallet looks beautiful and the interface looks pretty flawless. I'm a little up in the air about justifying it's price tag. I would honestly love to purchase one soon but I kind of wish it was a little cheaper.

KeepKey is a nonstarter for me since it does not work with a phone. The $20 Ledger will keep your bitcoin just as secure and works with Mycelium on Android. I prefer the Trezor for the convenience of the screen, but that is personal preference.

I think we will see more go from paper to hardware.    I really do after testing it.

Just so much nicer then keeping paper at safety deposit box.  Now just my recovery seed needs to stay there and I can have this in a decent safe.  Fell a lot safer with it at home then I did with paper.

hardware wallets have their advantages. id say security wise its on par with paper wallet, because its only secure while its not connected to the internet.

so in a rough visual
using third party websites (exchanges/wallets/banks) is <50% safe
using full node is 80% safe
paperwallet/hardware wallets are 90% safe

but still dont advertise them as the hack-proof, fool-proof, indestructible way to use bitcoins.

when a hardware wallet eventually comes with software that is locked inside the device with an autorun ability on plug in, thus not requiring any downloads or computer resource (no extensions) then the safety can be increased to more than 90%.
but until then be careful with any alert to update/replace browser extensions. especially if the resulting update suddenly asks for the seed

This seems like a very good device. The way you described it and the video almost persuaded to buy it. That is when I encountered a problem, the price. Almost $250 is a very steep price to be paying.

I could juts buy a Trezor for around $100. Much cheaper and they both do the job.

You can also use a regular wallet and not browser extension though.  I'm using MultiBit HD.  I think that get's rid of the risk of browser things you mention, but I could be wrong.  Please let me know if I am.  I think keeping key and signing on device with a wallet like MultiBit HD is hard to beat on security.

But you are right the makers do say "It now becomes nearly impossible for virtual attackers like malware or viruses to steal your valuable bitcoins." So they say nearly incase something does come out that can defeat it... it should not happen but your right there is no 100 percent.  But still much better then a lot of options out there.

I'm just going off what they are advertised as i think this "KeepKey works with the bitcoin wallet software on your computer by taking over the management of private key generation, private key storage, and transaction signing." is pretty strong security.  And remember it's actually based on Trezor so they did a lot of R/D and testing for security.

Compare the looks of Trezor to the KeepKey. KeepKey also makes it very, very easy to see the full address and other details. It's just really slick. In the end, your argument is like saying "why would I buy a Ferrari when I could get a Miata, and they both get me to work?"

And Trezor has been mentioned a lot.  It was based on their code so you will see a lot of similarities.  That is why you see so many similarities.  Keepkey benefited from Trezor doing R/D and testing.  Then keep key customized that code for their wallet.

I wish I could take credit for the video's but they are KeepKey's, I just linked to them as I really thought they did a good job.  And I'm just putting this out there as a review so there is info out there.  I make 0 dollars if you buy one or don't.  I have no deals where if my guide sells one I get X amount.  That is why on all of my guides you will see it linked to proper seller, no short-link tricks, or referral tricks.

Also added to second post about me not making money if they sell ton's or none.  I think that is something important that was not mentioned.

So far I have used it with chrome extension and MultiBit HD.  Both of which seem to work great with it.

So still testing but it has all gone well so far.   Which is a good thing.

I can confirm I also got that.  I opened Chrome and it seems to use the KeepKey on it's extension by default.  I closed it and was able to bring up MultiBit HD like normal.

NP! And I understand why Chrome does take default, just think it should be an option (like you can make it swap to Multibit HD if you wish). Took forever to figure out why MHD wouldn't work (I re-loaded it probably 20x before I finally tried closing Chrome).

I like using it with Multibit HD. I also did a test to see how well it worked:

1) Initiate with Chrome
2) Load in Multibit HD to see if it shows the same address
3) Take to *nix and load in Multibit HD to see if it shows the same address

Looks perfect across all three!
