Well they say they will sell chips.

If they sell chips better gear will be available.

We are going to have a very interesting six months.

Also notice they said they launched a 40 mega watt farm.

This is those crazy high jumps to 190 -  210 blocks

Aww, let say they can manage 0.1 J/GH @ wall, so we will see with this 40 MW farm another 400 PH/s soon.

We have been seeing 180 to 220 ph so maybe 40mw and .1 gh are not true.

But the 180 to 220 ph jump on those 195 block days is real.

There is a plus side to this as this jump may be the last super jump for a month or so.

I think the s-7 is going to drop a lot in price.

If this pool doesn't at least hit one block every 14 days and each time difficulty is considerably increasing while the hashrate is stagnating... how are you ever going to get out of the variance trap?

You don't.

which is why we need increased hash rate.

The pool  needs to run at 150th or more at a steady average.

Once again a tremendous day  41 blocks over the norm!

we have 432 blocks to go which should take 3 days at 144 a day  more then likely 2 days and a few hours.

note

 Dec 12 = 167
 Dec 13 = 137
 Dec 14 = 197
 Dec 15 = 185

That swing is a good chance of a very big farm some say Bitfury has 50 megawatts  and these swings have been tweaking of the farm.

If it is 150 -225 ph  and it looks like it  they can't seem to keep it up and running so maybe  just maybe it fails.

Other then this we will be over  95 diff  and  around New Years  close to 113.8 diff.

113.8 diff is 2x that of

  Sep 04 2015   56,957,648,455      407,718,729 GH/s  price 230

 Jan 1  2016    113,800,000,000        814,000,000 GH/s    price 460?

If the above is true   and the network is ½ old gear .5 watts or worse   and ½ new gear  .25 watts

you have done a push if you have .5 watt gear  and if you have .25 watt gear you are better off then the sept 4 numbers.

The point is  a diff of 114  at a price of 460 usd   does not  take into account that the new .25 watt gear is better.

if we stay at 460 usd  the diff could be 230 before the .25 watt gear is hurting.

33548  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Gauging interest in a S5+ / 3xS7 specific power supply breakout board? on: December 16, 2015, 03:33:28 AM
Thanks for the detailed and educational post on the meters, I had no idea. I used the same meter, though, to read the change from 227v to 240v. Also, my 227v reading went back up to 240v if I removed the load. The sag was caused by the power load and heat from summer. Winter temps are definitely helping right now.

No utility sets a transformer for 220v, they're all set to 240v. If by voltage coming into the neighbourhood you mean the top most wire bare (or 3 wires if 3 phase is available in your area) it's neither 240v nor 480v. In fact, quite far from it. Those lines run at 12200v or 14400v generally, and are transformed to 240v before they enter your property. When you read 208v on 3 phase, that's quite normal. 3 phase systems in the low volt range are 120v/208v, not 220v or 240v.

Oh, don't forget that your 1210w figure depends on a PSU with 93% efficiency. 2880w are no where near 93% efficient according to the tests I did. (measured DC output vs AC input) Not a good way to calculate your voltage.

What did your psu show  90% or less?
33549  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie here - which low budget miner to get? on: December 16, 2015, 02:27:10 AM
I would go with the Antminer setup, the S3's are built like tanks, and (if good ones) will overclock to 250mhz for roughly 1TH of performance.

I would go with an s3 also.  I have one and it really runs great, not to loud either.
I am not sure about 1TH performance but I would suggest you overclock it to a setting that gives you as less HW errors as possible and not to overclock it for the most TH that you can get, you will only compromise it's lifespan.  Every S3 has it's sweets pot.

He meant 250 freq gets 500gh

Op wants 2 thus 500 + 500 = 1000

@ op my worst s-3 was about 425 gh but I had many that could do 500gh

If BTC is this vulnerable it is worthless.

And this is why a working consensus that is followed by  everyone (ideal)  is important or it crumbles.

The day is only 2/3rd of the way done but so far we are at +34 %

my thoughts are this is bitfury putting the 175ph to 225 ph farm online  it is a 50 Mega-Watt farm and it is real.  SO unless it burns to the ground due to bad wiring  we will get a 20% or more jump.

But there is an interesting thing  before new gear back in sept we had 405ph all at .5 watts or worse.

It will go offline if price does not move over 500 usd.

An s-3   loses money at  500 gh 400 watts  at 10 cents a kwatt  at a diff of 101 with the current price of 457 so the s-3 will give up the ghost next jump.

there was about 60ph in s-3's

So when the gets over  100 diff which it will by years end older gear will drop off.

How do you know they sold 133,333 Antminer S3's ? Seems like it would take a really really long time to produce that many S3.

I know they did quite a bit of them.  I tracked sales at the addresses they used for payments.  And remember they  sold at  pretty low prices for a while.

They were a big improvement over the s-1  and the s-1 sold 20ph worth of units.

at everybody if coin price drops to 275 or 230  what would you do?

Do you know approx how many units of the Antminer S2 they sold ?

I did a break down on them but I can't remember how well they sold.

33554  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Large review of Finksy/J4bbrwock server psus compared to ATX psu- photos up on: December 15, 2015, 11:16:17 PM
OK, thanks, guys.
i want to run two very good S7 with one overlocked from 600 to 650 (B5) and another from 625 to 650 (B7).
B5 is already slightly overclocked from 600 to 625 and has little error, so why not?
I think that each would do ~1350-1380W at the wall at 650.

Biodom,

PSU's are rated for DC draw (not the at the wall AC load which is after the efficiency drop).  1350W at the wall would be approximately 1,260W DC draw on the PSU using Bitmain's 93% efficiency from their own rating method.  Meaning, even if you could over-clock both S7's to 1500W at the wall (Either 5 TH w/ 135 chip model or 5.8TH/s w/ 162 chip model) you would still be under 100% DC load on the 2880W PSU.

And to answer your question, the PSU's are capable of handling >100% load, I have personally tested them up to around 3000W DC (13.5A at the wall) load for a many weeks.  However, you are going to get considerably lower efficiency over 100% load, and you are likely to reduce their lifespan. Also, once you get over 2900W DC load on them, you start getting past the recommended continuous AC load for a single C19-C20 cable (12.8A, or 3070W at the wall for the 80% rating of the connectors' 16A rating).

Personally, I like keeping them at around 90% load, or ~2600W, which 2x S7's overclocked sit perfectly in that range.

Yeah  I have yet to do the testing on the 2880 watters.

I have a 12 gauge iec cord for it.

This is another reason I like the 4000 watt 2x psu break out board.  It uses 2  psus each 2000 watts and it uses two power cords you can get away with 14 gauge since you are pulling 8.5 amps or so on each psu.

I think a lot of people will want the new 4000 watt option it is smaller foot print  and more pcie cable up to 30.

At the second setting of 12.23 volts I get a 15 amp or 3600 watt draw for the 2 avalon's and the one s-7  the avalon's really respond to this  4000 watt psu setup.
33555  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]1150$! The group buy of hosted bitmain S7 @4.73T online on 27th Jan!! on: December 15, 2015, 11:04:02 PM
I am chasing Lee and his team from this morning to change my config as Lee site shows all OK but on ant mining pool nothing (Changes made last night) . I submitted new changes and still nothing changed. This is one point is very frustrating that you do not when you will get response.Send few emails still no reply. I lost my 24 hrs of mining of two miner.

There is not argument that Lee is very honest guy  but he and his team are not efficient when it come to response (At least that is what my experience says). It could be down to TIME ZONE issue as when Europe start working in China people finish the work.

Lee should provide us remote access to machine change the pool name which could make life easier.

this will not happen anymore as he was hacked last year when he allowed this and it simply is not worth doing.

Just think if you can sign into a miner on an ip say  192.168.x.yyy  with a password you pick.  I can sign into my miner at  192.168.x.yyx  with a password I pick.

By careful testing I can determine many mining ip's.  I can check and test passwords then play the long game until I get 1500 or 2000th worth.

switch them all to a blank new btc addy and mine them all at a solo pool  if I hit the block auto drops to my btc addy and I steal from everyone with no one able to catch me.

Thus  no remote access.
33556  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie here - which low budget miner to get? on: December 15, 2015, 10:56:08 PM
Hi all,
I'm new to this world and would like to get an ASIC miner, just for fun: I don't need one to earn, but I'd like it to pay its current bills and, on long time, to pay back its price, maybe.

My choice is between two devices (of course suggestions are welcome):

- Dragon Miner T1 - 1TH/s and 1kW, low price, seems great but I'm still unsure about its overall quality.
- 2x Antminer S3 - 450GH/s and 350W -> 900GH/s and 700W in total. More GH/s per W, but price is slightly higher and the external power supply might be "unhandy"

What is your suggestion? Any experience with the Dragon T1? It seems like a Chinese miner (while I don't expect the Antminer to be USA-made Cheesy).
Another question, what is the difference between the S3 and S3+? I might get the S3 or the S3+, the seller is not clear, is this a deal breaker?

Any help or suggestion is appreciated!
Thanks

the s-3's are better in the sense they are light and easy to move.  they run pretty quiet and there are low cost fans for it to be even quieter.

if you are in the usa lots of good psu's are around. you will need cheap power for these units. if you want to earn a profit.

Phil,

I love this review - thanks for all of the sharing.

I do have a question though - you must be on the East Coast since we also had record temps yesterday!

70s are unheard of mid december.  We are usually counting feet of snow here.

Howell ,NJ

72f    I went to the Jersey shore for a few hours and walked the beach with the wife.

So far these are really good psu's.

I will run at 12.23 volt middle setting as  the 12.53 does not help the s-7 I own.

I think these are really great with avalon sixes  for a lot of reasons

one) four pcie cables vs 10
two) the avalon 6's I have respond very well at the high setting of 12.57 volts
three) this is quiet with the fans I am using.
four)  I would not mind 3 avalon's on this psu  set to the high setting

it would increase the aftermarket value of B1-7.

One positive way of looking at it I suppose.

Always hate it when manufacturers start saving a few cents in this way. I am assuming it's been driven by the Bean Counters rather than a deliberate attempt to stop people plugging up multiple S7 to a single controller?

Or could mean there is an S7+ on the way?

Rich

personally, i don't care anymore...it is not the time to spend BTC, but the time to harvest 'em.

I agree just mine and save btc don't spend any btc.
33559  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 15, 2015, 08:30:28 PM
Coincidentally 4 of my 6 miners just got the 'blank mining data' issue. Tried hard reboots to no avail. Tried to power them up first and then fire up the pi after, still no luck. Switched form antpool to F2pool and they all came back up 100%. Weird they wont show the connected devices, wattage, etc until they connect to a pool. Thinking the pool is related in some way as I have only been mining on Antpool when this has happened. IDK... Best of luck on experiment tonight rootdude.

makes sense that antpool might not like an avalon 6 mining on it. I suppose they can tell what is mining on their pool.

I have used the avalon 6's on

Would be nice to get enough people for a consistent 200-300TH

I am sure that would speed block finding up

I have to agree it has been a long time.  This is a good pool but with under 75th getting blocks is tough.

Maybe we need to do some kind of awareness campaign

Its a great pool and it seems like a waste to let it get so underutilized

Everything seems stable and working as intended

Not sure what can be done other then continuing to post here and of course I mine here at the pool every day.

This is my favorite pool and I have had a lot of fun here.  Frankly I am overextended here at the moment I have a lot riding on the next block and I just wish we would hit it.

It would be nice to see someone put in 500th for a while till it hits.
