3361  Economy / Securities / Re: Solo Mining Group Buy? on: December 19, 2015, 03:56:36 AM
So I've got an idea, don't know if it's a good one or not.  Wink What would stop someone from getting together a group buy to purchase hash on NiceHash to solo mine on ck's solo pool?  You could potentially, and I use that word loosely, get a pretty good payout if you could get a lot of hash together.

1.  Is anyone interested? We would have to use an escrow since no one would trust me as a noob.. Grin

2.  Would it be smarter to buy a LOT of hash power for a little time or moderate hash for longer time?

It has been done before I know Phil has done a few times.  Most likely you will need someone like him if you want to do this.  So you would need to talk them into running it as trust is so high.

Also you need to know you have a decent enough group of people to do it I would say at least 10 or so most likely.  But it would need to be more then just one is a big thing.

But it has been done before by him.  I have no idea if he is interested in more or if not interested.  But I would start with him if you do find enough for a group: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=64507

His boss will eventually find out that his bill has gone up by a ton recently, and he'll trace it back to your dad.

Your dad will get fired and your mining rigs are moved out. What a happy ending that is.

I would not guarantee he get's the rigs back.  If it was a crime committed by leaving them at this work it would not surprise me if they are sent as evidence waiting what ever trouble he get's into.   He might get them back but.... with being used to do the crime i would guess would be a long and hard process.

Again OP just don't do it.  I wonder OP's age, I hope his dad is smart enough to know how bad of a idea this is.
3363  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie wanting to get into mining. Needs help! on: December 19, 2015, 03:47:21 AM
I don't even known an Antminer s3, would taking the plunge into this worth it? Seriously though, with one s3 would I be making $3.50 or so a day?

Everyone is on different scales. If one S3 is biggest you are conformable or can go to, or most conformable investing yes stick with that.  But many go much higher in hashrate and higher priced machines.

I separate home and hobby miners really.  I consider one who scales it up a decent amount a hobby miner.  If you have 1 or 2 at home I consider home miner, each is a valid option depends on your situation.
3364  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty increased to 93.4G on: December 19, 2015, 03:44:54 AM
Honestly are the creators of bitcoin core having a laugh?
Mining difficulty will be the reason that mining bitcoins becomes impossible. Why can't it be restricted?
Before all bitcoins have been mined we won't even have the technology to mine them anymore.
Is bitcoins quickly becoming extinct? What would happen if no one can mine a block anymore? Blockchain crash?

It's  a free market.. if they were to build it where it restricts amount of hash or any restrictions it would not be taken kindly.   Look up decentralization and see how much it is at the core of Bitcoin.

Other questions I'm not sure if your serious or not.
3365  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: December 19, 2015, 03:30:40 AM
Here's something to get out of the way right away;

1. Hash Rate: 4.73 TH/s ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1293W
3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH

1293/4730 = 0.27~ Efficiency. So it is 0.25 efficient or not. It says +10% at the wall, as if you have to add it to the 1293W, then that would be even less efficient. So what is the truth?

They do give it a percentage where at the wall it is higher like you mentioned.

1. Hash Rate: 4.73 TH/s ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1293W + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)
3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp)

I will send them a email to verify if it is closer to .27 on actual at wall. (It's weekend in China I might not have a instant anwser).

Don't bother, they aren't to be trusted. We need to measure these things our selves. I'll eventually get around to measuring DC and AC on my B8 and post results.

I should get an official anwser in email, but I expect it to be during the business week most likely.  But your input is very much appreciated if you do measure it and post your results in thread.

Hands On with the AntMiner S7 Batch 8

0) General information
1) Unpacking
2) The Miner
3) Install
4) Running the miner
5) Conclusion
6) How to purchase

0) General Information
The Bitmain S7 has been a very popular miner with current gen miners. With most reviews covering the earlier batch (most batch 1's) I felt it was worthy to do a more current one with a batch S7 from batch 8. They have now went to a specification which I expect them to keep for at least the near future and possibly longer. They currently are shipping out within 5 day's after payment.  The efficiency and recent drop in price make this a real contender in current gen miners.  This miner consists of 3 main modules with 3 blades in each.  Together they bring a hashing speed of 4.73 TH at only 1293 watt's, making it run approximately at a efficiency of 0.25 J/GH. All of this with the familiar Bitmain GUI you have come to expect, making setup very easy.

Specifications:
1. Hash Rate: 4.73 TH/s ±5%
2. Power Consumption: 1293W + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25C ambient temp)
3. Power Efficiency: 0.25 J/GH + 10% (at the wall, with APW3, 93% efficiency, 25°C ambient temp) **Has been questioned as shown below.  Email sent also asking for people to report their efficiency.
4. Rated Voltage: 11.60 ~13.00V
5. Chip quantity per unit: 135x BM1385
6. Dimensions: 301mm(L)*123mm(W)*155mm(H)
7. Cooling: 2x 12038 fan
8. Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 40 °C
9. Network Connection: Ethernet
10. Default Frequency: 700M

1) Unpacking
The miner is very well packed as you can see below.  It is within a special styrofoam packing, that helps keep the miner in the center of the box.  This helps keep the miner safe during shipping, and there is a message to owner that is on-top so you read it before running miner.

2) The Miner
Below are images to showcase the miner.

3) Install
One of the big things before install is to make sure all heat-sinks stayed in place during shipment.  There are different way's to do this. I did not want to void warranty during my check.  I chose to take fans off on both ends and look inside to ensure no heat-sinks had fallen during shipping.

The install can vary greatly for each person on electricity. For those of you familiar with my guides I used the same 240 volt 30 amp connection to a 30 amp PDU I used in my S5+ review.  From this PDU I used one of the Bitmain server PSU suggested which came with the needed 10 PCIe cables, making the install very easy. ( https://bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201505040743496917U7kGsCm0694 ).

The install time of S7 and PSU went very quick plugging into PDU (I did turn off power to PDU to not be plugging in cables that are live).  This was done in only a few minutes.  After install I did set a static IP as I always do then went to the very familiar and easy GUI to set up my pool information.

Below is a picture of the S7 installed with the Bitmain PSU:

4) Running the miner
Was very easy to set up and get running if you are familiar with the AntMiner GUI.  At this point I changed network settings to set up with a static IP, and my pools are inputed after. Below you can see the S7 hashing away after setup.

Below shows the miner actually mining:

5) Conclusion
This miner takes the BM1385 chip and makes a powerful and efficient miner.   For me it was a very simple and easy install, there were no issues during it.  Using the recommended Bitmain psu really does help make it a simple install for those with 220/240. The hashing power you get with efficiency makes the new batch 8 with the price drop from batch 7 a great choice currently.  I will continue to run and test out the S7 batch 8 and update this, but I expect there to be no issues.

6) How to purchase
You can go directly to the Bitmain's website: https://www.bitmaintech.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201511170341298180m44675v0613

Please don't bash others, or try to turn into a ROI/other debate.  Yes things such as ROI and other topics have a valid point, but this thread is to show the hardware
3370  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [HELP] Can someone tell me if vanitygen 0.22 is compatible with Avalon Nano 3? on: December 18, 2015, 11:23:37 PM
You do vanity "mining" with a GPU. If you have an ASIC, you could put the income generated as bounty, but i think that Avalon is quite obsolete, so you might as well just give the vanity gen a try with whatever you have on your PC.

Thanks for reply. I've already tried to do with my GPU but it is no so fast.... So, if I buy it, I can't use with vanitygen? And with oclvanitygen? Is compatible?

You need compare GPU's here is a list: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen  But basically the newer and better... the faster (not always there are some other things).  But new and fast GPU normally will be faster.

A big thing is how long of vanity address your "mining".  Depending on length and if exact it could be a very long time, or very short time.

Best bet is selling the obsolete miner, then using the BTC to put up a bounty to get the vanity address. Afaik you can't roll priv keys with ASIC, but maybe someone figured out a way to do it, if its even possible.

It was not when i tried it though and if it is, it should say it does in the readme, however google says nope.

I know there are some that have said a safe way to buy vanity gen from a site that had a pool running "mining" BTC addresses.   I really don't like idea of others being any part of my private key.

I would make it myself or not have it.   But I'm to safe most likely.
3371  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 Bitmain Power Supply Issue on: December 18, 2015, 10:28:37 PM
I have come into the acquisition of an Antminer S7 and *gulp* upon the advice of Amazon, purchased a AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series 1600W Power Supply

http://www.amazon.com/AntMiner-APW3-12-1600-Series-Supply-Bitcoin/dp/B013WW2YWE/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1CHAC9KDBAPSSKG302CF

Everything seemed well and good when I plugged the power supply into the socket. The fan churned on and everything sounded normal, but the S7 itself was deader than a door nail. I checked the amps and moved to a 15amp socket with no positive effect either. I even tried to power my Antminer S5 to no avail.

PICTURES

And there were these two plugs that confused since one of them had what looked like a feedback connector while the other one did not.

So, is the writing on the wall and I messed up in getting the right Power Supply for the S7, or am I missing a step? My bitcoin comrade thought it was strange that the plug input is the same as many devices used today in computers and PSU even though he doesn't think that kind of cord would work on a 264VAC.

So you're saying the PSU turn on. Did you check the output to see if its supplying 12v? Also, that is pretty odd that you could not power the S5 either. The last guy that could not start his S7 did not plug the 10th connector into the S7 controller, but the S5 does not have that.

Anyways check the PSU's output to see whats it at when you turn it on.

If you have a PSU tester test the PCIe connectors and see what power your getting.  Checking is not a bad idea at all like mentioned.

You say 15amp but how many volts are on circuit?  You will not operate it properly with 110/120 volt.  It say's it on listing (205+ volt required).  That is very true.  I hope you did not pay that amazon amount... it's like a little above 1/2 that on bitmain's site.
3372  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help setting up miner on: December 18, 2015, 10:23:46 PM
Hello
I am going to begin mining bitcoins.
I made a Blockchain account and downloaded GUIMiner.
But it asks for an user name and password.
Where do i get it.
And also what pool is recommended for beginners.

What type of hardware are you going to be mining with?  With just cpu and or video card or did you actually buy a u3 or a larger asic miner?

GUIMiner is too old, he will need CGMiner or BFGMiner. There's nothing he can do with GUIMiner. He did not mention any ASIC, so i'm guessing he is trying to mine with his PC' which is pretty much impossible to do nowadays, which is why up to date miners don't even support it.

GUIMiner can used for scrypt mining with GPU's.  But most of time you will lose money running it.  And you sure won't pay for the cards them self.

But you are right on BTC mining you need asic.  Even scrypt mining has been taken over by asics.  It is only certain algo's that remain GPU only and none are profitable in my mind.

So your cunning plan is to Steal Money to buy Miners, then Steal Electricity to run them, and you are asking for our thoughts...................

Rich

Seriously it was long winded message of saying he is justified in stealing since he is worth more....   If he is worth more apply else where or if so vital to company ask for raise...

He could be the "basically king shit at this company" without a job with your plan OP.  And a firing is well deserved if he does any of what you speak of .
3375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can i Mine with a dual core CPU? on: December 18, 2015, 09:21:12 PM
The earnings from the dual core cpu are very low comparing on how much you will spend on electricity and the most important is the time spend. In conclusion it does not worth.

Even if you get a 16/32 core VPS or soemthing.... cpu mining still does not pay off.   Just to much cost for so little money.  You will lose cases in most cases.

I have not seen any recent ones of people paying off CPU/GPU mining rigs... just cost vs income does not work.
3376  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator who works for china banned me 5 days in this forum on: December 18, 2015, 09:15:55 PM
the decision to make me 5 days ban and 10days ban is totally bullshit which it itself proved
Wrong. That is your subjective opinion. Moderators have the right to asses the situation and decide then, also the banning process takes time (i.e. admins review it before acting upon it). Your ban(s) was deserved. The best thing that you could do now is try and improve your habits.

no no no, you are wrong

the best thing that you could do now is try and improve your habits.

congratulation, you are on my paper too, each word you write will be recorded

I think you need to take a step back and breath.  Honestly getting worked up and going after mod's/admin's is not going to help you.   I would assume if anything you would annoy them and either ignore or another ban happens.

Looking at first post just a little bit of it:
Moderator who works for china banned me 5 days in this forum due to fact that I support freedom and democracy by uploading articles here.

You realize this is a online forum not a country?   There is not like a bill of rights or something for it.... we are guests and have to abide by rules of the forum.   If mod's/admin's want to ban someone they could for no reason..... but as far as I have seen there is always a good reason and if not they let you talk it out in meta which they don't have to do.  That is for the users benefit.
3377  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks closed. on: December 18, 2015, 09:09:58 PM
yeah I am the first to say a high rollover is exciting but a certain point it is too high
prize is too big .  This thread has given away more then 3btc in coins and gear. Maybe we allow for one more full rollover if it happens. But ideas are welcome.

We are funded for Dec Jan and Feb . So one more rollover is easy enough to do.  If someone hits it problem solved.

I think we will see some wait a little longer.  A lot of us that put in early guess were not even in ballpark of it.  So I'm guessing some more wait a bit to see where it goes.

So I think we just might do it this time if people wait... but you never know.
3378  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S3 Issues on: December 18, 2015, 09:05:20 PM
So I've been having trouble when trying to connect to my miner. I had it working perfectly fine but i wanted to switch it over to WAN instead of LAN which is what it was on. I did this so i could be able to connect to it under a 192.168.0.xxx IP rather than a 192.168.1.xxx ip so i could connect it straight to my modem rather than the router since the modem only works with .0 ip's. It just stopped working after this. I've tried multiple ways of factory resetting it like holding the button, waiting 3 minutes, holding it again, then restarting. I've also tried a few other things with holding/pressing the reset button and restarting the miner.

I still have no luck. I just can't find it on the list of DHCP clients while its connected directly to my router. Another issue is that the red and green lights next to the Ethernet port are both just staying on and when i hold the reset button the lights don't do anything. I just can't connect/find the ip to even try connecting to. I have tried restarting my router and modem but i could always give anything i said i've already done another try.

If anybody has any resolution or could maybe help me troubleshoot this issue i'd really appreciate it. Feel free to ask any questions if i explained something terribly or didn't make any sense.

Do you know what IP you set it to?  If so you can set a static on PC on IPV4 (turn off IPV6), and you can plug it directly into computer and log into it.  But you need to know network settings to do this easily.

There is a reset button.  But if you have one firmware I believe it did not work (been a while).   But if you have one without that firmware a reset should set it to factory.

That's the thing. I have used the reset button before and successfully restored to the factory settings. I haven't updated the firmware since that happens. I didn't set it to any specific ip but its ip on the dhcp list was 192.168.1.113 and when i switched it to lan i just dud 192.168.0.113. I've tried running it and plugging it directly into my computer but i couldn't connect to any of the ip's i tried which were 192.168.1.99, 192.168.1.113, 192.168.0.99, and 192.168.0.113. those are all the ones i've tried connecting to while the miner is plugged into my computer via ethernet. What do you mean by set a static on pc on ipv4? do you mean in my router/modem settings?

If you know what network settings were on it you can log into miner via a static IP on a PC on same network settings.  But you have to know settings, I'm not sure how you will do it with what you mentioned above.

Here is a good example from S1 day's look how he set's computer to static IP and directly connects.  But you need to know the things mentioned in it to do it.   - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=344970.0
3379  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 18 to Jan 1 diff thread setup picks closed. on: December 18, 2015, 08:58:01 PM
I am thinking of  doing a twist here

" there will be a winner  even if no one gets it I will award it to the close pick.
last number was 18.14%  which is in the 18.10 to 18.19 slot

So 18.1 was not picked    but 18.0  would have been the close pick"

I do not want to make prize rollover endlessly so I think this is a good twist.

but please let me know if you think another rollover is better.

How about if there is no winner you roll over half and award half to the close pick?

Rich

I think the rollover adds to excitement.  Part of fun is it getting big and people missing it, just like lotto.  When it get's big people go crazy.

I think more 1/4th or so to closest.  I think it's a good idea on closest but I think keep majority rolling till hit for fun.  But I could be wrong.

54 Mh/s @ 250 watts is unbeatable in the Scrypt market right now.

unbeatable ?

Titen ? 400 MH @ 1400 watt

... not rally unbeatable ...

Titan: 3'5w/mhs
SF100: 4'3w/mhs
Alcheminer: 9'8w/mhs
A2Mega: 12'8w/mhs

IT is not unbeatable, but not too bad...  Roll Eyes

You cannot buy a new Titan. I'm talking about new hardware being manufactured right now. The SF100 is the most efficient scrypt miner still being produced.

But where can you buy one of these new produced ones?  I think it is still internal if I had to guess on most equipment.

I think your going to 3rd parties at this point on Titan and SF-100 unless they started selling to general public and I just missed it.
