3361  Economy / Economics / Re: Why on this earth most of the post only related to Greece Crisis ? on: July 19, 2015, 04:41:42 AM
it's called generating a hype, hoping the price will go up a lot. but at this point it's not really working anymore since greece reached a new agreement. people should focus on something else now.
3362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mainstream Adoption on: July 19, 2015, 04:37:57 AM
The biggest issue I see with the mainstream adoption of bitcoin is the lengthy time it takes for confirmations.  Credit and debit cards will always be much faster than bitcoin.

at some point in the future the core devs can decide to include faster confirmation times to stimulate mainstream adoption. i only think it will take several years, if ever.
3363  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-18] CD - Gates Foundation Director on Blockchain Tech and the Unbanked on: July 19, 2015, 04:31:46 AM
i think its a great idea, but as we've seen with the recent stress tests, if we want to see bitcoin as a viable micro-payment network, we need to increase the block size.

theyve been promising to help the third world and unbanked with bitcoin for as long as ive been here at bitcointalk, it will be nice to see that actually become a reality.

it's not that easy to offer bitcoin as a payment service to the unbanked as it is a potential huge market for banks and other companies. they will most likely try to force their own services to these people with high fees as it will make them a lot profit over the backs of poor people. they don't care.
3364  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How many services do you use for trading on: July 18, 2015, 07:01:00 PM
i only do bitcoin trading. for me btc-e and kraken are the best exchanges. kraken only for btc/euro trading and btc-e for btc/usd.
3365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ebay Forbids Bitcoin for Payments on: July 18, 2015, 03:56:21 PM
A complete bunch of idiots they are, I wonder if this is linked to the eBay / Paypal spilt. Openbazaar.org is an amazing idea and hopefully it will outgrow eBay one day

i think at some point they may accept bitcoin as form of payment. but they might only do so if they see another big company have increased sales due to bitcoin. if it's popular enough, they will surely add it.
3366  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC-E crash to $150! on: July 18, 2015, 03:53:13 PM
this once again shows that it pays off to place low buy orders. it's the second time btc-e had an insane flash crash. it wasn't much but i managed to buy 1 btc at $200  Grin
3367  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mcdonalds going to accept bitcoin? on: July 18, 2015, 03:49:21 PM
Just because they are able to doesn't mean they will. In fact it's most unlikely they will.
Smart companies don't get involved in these kind of scams.

what kind of scams....? if you consider bitcoin a scam, then why don't you simply leave this forum and bitcoin for good? but you're not going to do that as you secretly love bitcoin.
3368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Citicoin on: July 18, 2015, 05:00:45 AM
why are so many people surprised? did you guys really think banks will create something that supports the important aspects of bitcoin? they are only interested in having full control over everything.
3369  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: New website to sell BTC..seems kinda fishy on: July 18, 2015, 04:56:23 AM
I read this article online talking about this new website that you can sell your BTC but they will give you 10-20% above current value. Anyone try this site out? Here is the site http://www.perbtc.com/

pure bullshit. such sites are very poorly made and raise instant red flags. instead of using fishy sites like this, people should only work with trusted exchanges that have been running for years.
3370  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: People are still buying 333 MH/s Block Erupters on: July 18, 2015, 04:52:10 AM
they are great for new people who are interested in finding out how the mining thing works. it doesn't cost much and gets the job done, eventhough it isn't worth using them.
3371  Other / Off-topic / Re: DO YOU HAVE 1 BITCOIN? on: July 17, 2015, 09:15:01 PM
cant believe how many people are into bitcoin and dont even have one.

well, a lot people try to get as much from sig campaigns, faucets and giveaways as possible. all for free. they don't really see a reason to buy it as they will earn it eventually for free.
3372  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who didn't see this coming? on: July 17, 2015, 09:11:12 PM
$220-240 is the price range that the whales (or one particular whale) want to keep it at.

Should the exchange price really be used to determine the non-exchange price? Does localbitcoins ever affect the exchange price? This maker-taker system is rubbish.

i can imagine that whales want to keep the price at a certain level for some time, but definitely not more than that. they want to make profit, so if they keep the price down they are basically harming themself too. prices stay low because no one is willing to buy through various levels.

The big whales enjoy long period of low price, sometimes it takes a year for them to carry and stack all the BTC they want. Im sure they are keeping a lot of coins low in purpose besides BTC. LTC was pushed down to 1 dollar for months, stacking operations can take months before the price starts going up. Once the pump happens normal non whales can keep the price going up by natural buying dynamics.

Sorry but I doubt that LTC was pushed down. LTC was pumped by a chinese ponzi scheme group.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1115157.0

What happened then was pretty simple. Profits from Litecoin pumped into Bitcoin. Bitcoin went up. Some people jumped on board. Bitcoin continued to rise. Then chinese started dumping and taking the profits in cash.
pumping litecoin--> moving to Bitcoin and pump it --> dumping Bitcoin and taking profits in fiat (Yuan)

it was a very obvious pump yes. the people behind the pump made a fortune. it topped the bitcoin volume by quite a bit during the pump.
3373  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin hit $280 on: July 17, 2015, 09:07:29 PM
I think it was greece. Because when it showed up that they will get fresh money the price dropped. It dropped again when it was clear they will get some.

I don't think china is involved. Even though they have problems, there is no reason to go into bitcoin. But greece is different. They don't have a currency and want to safe their money. China has a stable currency, no need to go to bitcoin.

i think it was more usual bitcoin traders that got dissapointed after the greece announcement. they quickly sold their stash they bought for at that day a premium.
3374  Economy / Economics / Re: eBay official splits from Paypal on: July 17, 2015, 09:03:56 PM
Wouldn't it be great if e-bay adds bitcoins as a method of payment ?  Roll Eyes

it would be great for sure. but don't think they will any time soon, if ever. they will only do it if the demand is there. i'm sure when amazon will accept bitcoin, ebay will surely follow.
3375  Other / Meta / Re: Was the forum down for an hour? on: July 17, 2015, 09:00:08 PM
it was down here as well. pages barely load currently here. not sure what's going on, but a statement on twitter from bitcointalk would be nice.
3376  Economy / Speculation / Re: $2000 within 2015 on: July 17, 2015, 01:53:08 PM
You will be surprised to see how some people would be willing to sell their coins even for a small profit margin. That includes also the miners. But that's not the point. What I want to say is that as long as people cling on to that mentality, bitcoin price can never move anywhere. There will be resistances at every level.

We just need to hold and aim high.

well, you are partly right. but you can't blame people to take profits once they think it's the right time to sell. no matter how low or high their profit is. most people chase quick profits. holding for the longterm for them is way too difficult. they will sell as soon as they see they made profit.

3378  Economy / Speculation / Re: Antibubble? Less expected scenarios for 2016 halving on: July 17, 2015, 01:45:56 PM
i think we make the block halving more interesting than it is. i guess we'll see a higher price before the halving, and a drop after the halving to around the $300-$350 level.
3379  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-16] How High can Bitcoin Prices Go, Scientific Guess $2,456 ∙ IHB News™ on: July 16, 2015, 10:30:09 PM
no matter how much articles you read about these predictions, it is and will always be nothing more than a guess. that's the beauty of a free market. with wall street on board bitcoin's only limit will be the sky.
3380  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you guess about he future of bitcoin? on: July 16, 2015, 10:26:39 PM
As far as the future goes, I would expect it to stick around for a few years, but it will never be anything more than a niche currency.
The problem with it is its volatility. It could rise or fall large increments, all before lunch, which makes it pretty terrible as a currency overall.
People still look to it for some huge investment opportunity like it was when it first emerged. Back then people literally became millionaires in some cases. But that bubble burst long ago.

as longs as the market cap remains the same we will continue to have the volatility around us. but then again, volatility attracts people.
