3361  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is it possible to solo mine a whole block solely on insane luck? on: June 09, 2021, 10:47:02 AM
There is no 'fully mine a block', each hash is random and each hash has a specific probability of finding a block.
That's true, but I get what he means, and maybe OP is new to the game.

People are trying to do what OP suggests with USB stick miners, aka "lottery mining".  There's no harm in doing it, but you'd be better off playing Lotto every week, and I'm pretty sure the chances of mining a block with an ASIC in your home are still very remote.  IMO it's far better to join a pool and at least earn something rather than be disappointed constantly by earning absolutely nothing--all while using up electricity at your own expense.

But good luck, OP.  Solo or pool mining bitcoin can be fun, but it's just not profitable for individuals these days.
3362  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What do bitcoin ATMs do with your phone number? on: June 08, 2021, 10:51:05 PM
Give a fake phone number at your own risk.
Well, when they ask you for a phone number it's because you have to enter a code into the ATM from an SMS text they send you.  As to why they need to do that, I have no idea because that's not KYC.  It's easy enough to either use a burner phone or get someone to receive the SMS for you, so they're not getting any reliable identity info from you that way.

My guess is that they sell the phone numbers to spammers, the same way a lot of websites and other organizations that ask you for your e-mail address do.

The Bitcoin ATM space is still like the wild west these days.  I recall reading an interview from the owner of CoinFlip saying that they do things legitimately but that other ATM owners may not, and nobody is really paying attention to it as far as the government goes.  I totally believe that, because there's obviously no standard in place as to what information they need to get from their customers.  That'll probably change, but right now it's a free-for-all.
3363  Economy / Economics / Re: History repeats we are 1929 congrats on: June 08, 2021, 10:02:00 PM
Also government officials trump schwab and wall street Elite Rich guys dont need btc anymore.
What in the hell are you talking about?  Since when were any of them linked to bitcoin in the first place?

What Coming Next?
I was hoping that it would be you leaving the forum like you said you were, though for some reason I can't find that thread where you said you were going to--I'm 99% sure it was you, but I am 100% sure you know damn well members don't understand a thing you're saying since you made a thread about that not too long ago.  Why don't you stop it with all of these threads and just post in the ones that already exist?  You're not sparking much discussion by creating threads with topics that are all over the place.
3364  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Voskcoin , shitcoin shill, mega scammer on: June 08, 2021, 09:47:24 AM
I honestly haven't encountered many communities/places in the cryptocurrency community over the last decade that weren't filled with mega scammers and shills.  Vosk's YouTube channel and Discord server are actually one of those that haven't been.  I've tested him a few times in there and he's always responded with the right answer and I've seen him turn down taking advantage of dumb fanboys on multiple occasions and he appears to have a conscience.
I don't doubt anything you've written, nor have I seen any evidence of Voskcoin trying to scam anyone in his videos.  The stuff he shills I don't use, so I can't even say he's vouching for shitty products.  I just can't stand his videos, because he comes off as a braggart (especially in the titles of his vids, like this one, [url]this one[/url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDNAouHV9G0], and others).  There's something about his whole "I make so much money doing X" that really bothers me, and his smarmy tone of voice probably contributes to that.

Nevertheless, I do agree OP's claim is a false one until proven otherwise and this whole thread should probably be in the Reputation section rather than Scam Accusations.
3365  Other / Meta / Re: Is it time to increase the Emojis ? on: June 07, 2021, 04:58:06 PM
How am I meant to adequately poo-poo someone's idea without a pile of poop emoji? 💩
LOL.  My feelings exactly.

I am no fan of emojis and rarely use them, not on this forum, not on my phone, not anywhere.  They were cool back in 1997 when I started to use the internet regularly, but they're just silly to me now.  But that's just me--if other members want to use them (and want a wider variety), why not?  On the other hand, as pointed out by BlackHatCoiner, LoyceV, and Charles-Tim, there are ways to insert emojis that aren't necessarily available from the forum.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have been living a lie, and it's time you found out the truth. The poop emoji is just a copy of the ice cream cone emoji. They are the same, but one is white and the other is chocolate or poopish in color. I know, it's hard to digest. Cry
There's a very thin line between ice cream and poop.  And keep in mind that the end result of eating ice cream is evident in your toilet about 16-24 hours later.
3366  Economy / Reputation / Re: I'm not Little Mouse on: June 07, 2021, 04:47:46 PM
On a side note, I believe this project is totally a scam shit coin.
No doubt; I've certainly never heard of it, and most new coins/tokens are pure shit anyway.  It's unfortunate that they named it after your bitcointalk moniker, but I doubt it'll end up being much trouble for you.  The only way it will is if it became a popular project, in which case your posts here might show up on a Google search and people might think you're linked with the token.

Not surprised someone contacted you on telegram, but what can you do?  I don't think it was anything intentional on the Little Mouse project's part, just coincidental.
3367  Other / Meta / Re: Forum upgrade? on: June 06, 2021, 11:18:35 PM
I Hope this is the right board for this thread;
Yeah, it's the right section but obviously you've done zero reading before suggesting changes to the forum.  I would suggest you do so, and if you had you would have realized that there are many threads from members asking the same thing you're asking--and there are no new answers at present.

There's not going to be a mobile-friendly version of this site, at least until that fabled new software gets rolled out, and even then I'm not sure if that's part of it.  So right now just deal with it if you have to access the forum on your smartphone.

The new forum software is in the bug testing phase
forever...and it is also fine for me. I don't like the word "change".
Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for it to be released, and I'm also not looking forward to any change to the forum.  I very much like it the way it is and don't see any reason to fix something that isn't broken.

By the way OP, everything that was written in this thread has been written in all the other threads dealing with gripes about forum updates.  I don't think Theymos is paying attention to any of our comments.  If he is, he's certainly not acknowledging them.
3368  Other / Archival / Re: SCAM Not Moderated? on: June 06, 2021, 09:33:30 PM
So, after all, the scam was moderated before, or was it the arbitrariness of a particular moderator, who in fact did not have the right to make such changes to the topic name and in the topic itself?
That's what it looks like to me, because mods usually don't call out scams or potential scams like that.  It's definitely unusual, though I have to say I applaud LZ for doing that.  One of the things I've always found so bizarre about bitcointalk is the fact that scams aren't moderated, because on most other discussion forums if there's even a whiff of dishonesty, you'll get booted with no option to appeal.

Moderators are free to work at their own discretion.
Do you know that to be true for a fact?  I honestly have no idea how much discretion moderators have when it comes to situations like this.  If scams truly aren't moderated, then I would think Theymos wouldn't approve of what LZ did on this one.  I'd be curious to hear from a mod (or Theymos) for clarification.
3369  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: June 06, 2021, 05:00:42 PM
Jesus. [...]
Jesus Christ. [...]
It looks like this expression of ambiguous feelings is becoming a trend  Roll Eyes
"Jesus" "Christ" or "Jesus fucking Christ" has been in the lexicon of millions of people as an expression of frustration for many years.  It's not a trend.

Not one "influential person" will not say so about himself ... but if this term is really unpleasant for you, then it can be replaced with another expression that clearly defines your position in the forum society.  Namely that Cycling Club members are "entitled to an inflated sense of superiority to common shitposters". Tongue
Did I piss you off or something?  You left this on my trust page: "The Pharmacist, A very valuable and objective member. His messages are always pleasant to read and discussions with him are satisfying. Doesn't miss any of Foxpup's parties 🦊".  Do you now think that I think I have an inflated ego on the forum?  Believe me, I don't--compared to a lot of other members here who know a lot about bitcoin and those who've been here much longer than me, I'm a complete nonentity.  I do think I make better posts than those common shitposters you mentioned, but so do you.  That's something to strive for, not be ashamed of.

Also, I'm proud to be in Foxpup's campaign because it's exclusive.  I don't even know how many members Foxxxxy has in it, but I don't think it's all that many.  When people think enough of me to offer me a slot in something like Foxpup's campaign....yeah, I'm grateful and I'm not hesitant to say that.  As far as being an "influencer" goes, I'm not being modest by saying I'm not one.  I don't think I'm influencing anyone on this forum--and it's not like bitcointalk is Youtube, where those influencers have thousands or millions of subscribers listening to every word they say and buying whatever the influencer is selling.  This forum is just a discussion board and I'm just an avatar and a username with no following whatsoever.
3370  Other / Meta / Re: A modest proposal to support the forum team on: June 06, 2021, 02:30:39 PM
As for mods, if you really want to gift a moderator (or any other user for that matter) some BTC, most moderators have a Bitcoin address in their profile.
Sure, but why in the world would you want to do that (and no disrespect to you, mprep)?  It's not going to make the mods do any more moderation than they already are, and if it's not an anonymous donation it could be seen as a bribe--or could be a bribe, in fact.

I've no idea how much Theymos pays the moderators here, but the forum certainly has enough money to pay them well if he chooses to do so.  Having a donation fund specifically for mods would be a waste of money.  Bitcointalk probably needs more moderators, given how much spam and how many shitposts slip through the cracks, and Theymos could hire more if he wanted to but apparently he doesn't.

By the way, the term "a modest proposal" is supposed to refer to something written as satire, and I'm not sure if OP meant his post as such.  It didn't come across as satirical if that's what he was going for.
3371  Economy / Economics / Re: I currently cannot own a Paypal, Bank Account, CashApp, etc on: June 06, 2021, 01:10:39 PM
Like others were suggesting, can't you use your dads ID or tell your dad to make an account using his name on behalf of you?
I don't think Coinbase allows a single person to have multiple accounts, nor would they let someone open an account on behalf of a minor (though I'm certainly not 100% sure).  The suggestion that OP share the dad's Coinbase account seems like the best one--but it depends on whether the father trusts the son enough with it.

You don't have bank account? I thought even minor can open a bank account with their parents as the legal guardian or guarantor.
In the US I believe minors can open savings accounts (though I'm not sure if they need a guardian to cosign).  I'm not sure if minors can open checking accounts or not, which would be what OP needs in order to link with PayPal or any other payment processor.  I had a savings account when I was a minor, but that was a looong time ago.

OP, I wish you luck.  Be sure to save for the future as much as you can--and I'm talking about fiat, stocks, crypto, or any other asset or currency class.  Believe me, you'll be very, very glad that you did when you're older.  You might not be thinking about having a family or a house or any of that right now, but as you get older you and your priorities change.  Having enough money to do what you want to do is super important.  Good luck to you!

3372  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [ANN] Cobo Vault Second-Generation Launch - QR Code Air-Gapped Hardware Wallets on: June 06, 2021, 12:51:37 PM
I wonder, did the new company - Keystone - brought the "source code" / firmware from Cobo in order to be able to use it for them? What were the implications in this "departure"? It seems that they basically just took all the source code of the page and replaced it with their new brand
It sounds like the lead developer left the company and negotiated a deal that allowed him to take the code with him (as dkbit98 said).  Obviously the details of that aren't available, but it looks like that dev wasn't able to use the Cobo name, so he had to brand the new devices using a new one (Keystone).

It's an interesting situation and one that I hope doesn't ever happen with Ledger or Trezor, which are the HW wallets that most crypto owners use, if they use a HW wallet at all.

The thought that came into my head is that the Cobo wallet might be a good thing to buy as a collectible, since they're no longer going to be manufactured.  I might be interested in buying one for just that purpose.

Edit: I just took a look at their website, and it doesn't appear that they have any version of the Cobo wallet for sale (as RickDeckard mentioned).  I did notice that the Cobo Vault Essential and Cobo Vault Pro models use AAA batteries, and the fully rechargeable model (which costs almost $500....WTF?  What HW wallet in this day and age uses AAA or any store-bought batteries?
3373  Other / Meta / Re: Elon Musk threads are moved to Off-topic ? on: June 06, 2021, 12:03:44 AM
Perhaps you need to register Elontalk.org or recognise people don't care about random investors (especially when there are a lot of topics on the same or similar things).
I myself don't care one whit about "random investors".  However, it's hard to argue that Elon Musk's comments weren't worth talking about in the context of bitcoin (and dogecoin for that matter).  I agree that there were way too many threads about him, but I don't think they all should have been moved to Off-Topic--the ones I saw here and there were focused on his influence on bitcoin, which is a real thing whether you like it or not.

But hey, let the mods do what they want to do as long as it's not something egregiously unreasonable, which this wasn't.

Is the concern here that posts made in the Off-Topic section don't count toward signature campaign earnings?  OP is in the 777Coin campaign, so I'm assuming that might at least be part of why he's complaining about this.
3374  Other / Meta / Re: enquiry on: June 05, 2021, 11:26:08 PM
Somehow I doubt OP will grace us with his presence again.  Frankly, if you can't formulate a question in a way that makes it clear what information you're after, your writing skills probably suck--and since OP probably wants to use bitcointalk as a place of employment, if I were the hiring manager I'd toss his application into the trashcan so fast, Einstein would be rolling over in his grave.

There is a platform to always learn anything new. You can learn by watching videos regarding what you want on YouTube, or possibly type your question on Google to bring you an answer and direction to what you want.
Excellent way to point out the obvious, bro.  Wouldn't be surprised if you're an alt account of OP, getting in two posts in the same thread.  Or am I just being way to cynical?

Edit:
<snip>
And here's another complete noob who flocked to this thread right after registering....more evidence for my argument.
3375  Economy / Reputation / Re: My 10 Year Bitcointalk Anniversary on: June 05, 2021, 08:55:51 PM
To put this into perspective: ~18k users registered 10+ years ago, of those only 44 posted within the last 30 days (about 1 out of 400).
That's an interesting statistic, and I won't even ask where you got it from.  It's proof that most of the early adopters of bitcoin outgrew this forum--I just wonder how long it took on average for them to do so.  Betcha it was right around the time that signature campaigns started to wreak havoc on bitcointalk in the form of shitposting, when the signal/noise became so low that it became obvious that no one was reading anything.

I wonder how many members registered in late 2017 are still active today, because that time period saw tons of accounts being created and I think a lot of them went inactive after the ICO boom went bust.

Surprised you're congratulating OgNasty, suchmoon.
3376  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: June 05, 2021, 01:36:15 AM
Dear low-ranked accounts Cheesy
If you're posting here hoping to earn Merit, at least answer the questions by yourself, and don't use text spinner plagiarism. This gets you banned!
Indeed.  Look at this nonsense:

Maybe than using the money he gets from his business to buy my materials, he can distribute it to my more young kin and for our consistently needs. I was conceded a credit here and in a bid to abstain from defaulting I picked to purchasing of bitcoin to settle my obligation. it was a significant intriguing exchange quick and straightforward on account of blockchain innovation.
Though the post is written in English, I have no fucking idea what he's trying to say.  The post makes absolutely no sense.  This thread didn't need to get bumped unless someone with something significant to contribute felt like telling their story.  Seems obvious that the two members you mentioned are alt accounts, since they wrote the same "Thanks zasad@ for giving me chance for an interview" thing.  Jesus.

(and you guys in the 'merit cycling club' are a poster-children for the phenomenon.)  An 8000 'merit score' tells at a glance who the 'social media influencers' are.  Don't need to even read the posts because it is entirely predictable what social media inflencers are going to say.
Whaa?  I'm a proud member of Foxpup's Merit Cycling Club and I don't consider myself an "influencer" (I hate that term with a passion) on the forum or anywhere else.  What I am is a merit source, and part of that "cycling" is handing out merits to lower-ranked members who make good posts so they can rank up in a reasonable time.  I think you're painting a lot of members with a very broad brush.
3377  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Good exchanges with lax KYC ? on: June 04, 2021, 08:54:33 PM
Kucoin, maybe?  They don't seem to ask for any KYC, though I don't know if that's true if you want to trade with fiat (I'm assuming not even if they deal with fiat).  Kucoin might not be one of the biggest exchanges, but they have a decent reputation with very few complaints that I've seen--and they have tons of altcoins to trade.

As mentioned, all the big exchanges are heavily regulated and are going to require full KYC.  That's just the nature of the game these days and it's only going to get worse as time goes on.  P2P exchanges might not require KYC, but the only one I've ever used (BTCPop if I remember correctly) had lousy liquidity and I wasn't impressed with them at all.  Not sure how the other ones are.
3378  Other / Archival / Re: [2021] Yobit Story in Dogecoin era on: June 04, 2021, 08:40:36 PM
I spent 2m Doge on the online Vice City Multiplayer server back in 2015, Never thought doge will hit this amount per value.
I'm in the same boat and was just talking about how much USD value I would have right now had I kept all the doge I once had when it was worth a fraction of a cent.  It really is unbelievable and I too never thought it would get as high as it has recently.  Oh well.  I try not to think about it too much.

As far as what OP is talking about, that kind of behavior from Yobit doesn't surprise me whatsoever.  They went from being a legit exchange with awful customer service to an outright scammy crypto exchange over the course of 5-6 years or so.  It's a shame that there are so many people still use them.
3379  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Voskcoin , shitcoin shill, mega scammer on: June 03, 2021, 06:03:59 PM
I'm actually glad this thread got bumped, as I hadn't seen it before and I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos about mining lately and Voskcoin's channel is one that frequently pops up in my searches.  I can't say I particularly care for his style of delivery (though I have to say that there are one or two other popular mining Youtubers who are way more annoying), but some of his content is informative to non-miners such as myself.

That said, being paid to promote products (or getting said products for free) kind of gives a person a biased slant when it comes time to review them, and I definitely take everything I see and hear on his and other channels with big grains of salt.  It's unfortunate that smaller miners either don't make videos or they don't show up in the search results--like Philipma1957's.

All I see when I search for crypto mining vids on Youtube are thumbnails with whiteboy faces typically with a [shocked/confused/angry] look on their faces or with their hand covering it to convey an attitude of [dismay/disappointment/whatever].  Youtubers nowadays all follow the same script, and it's fucking annoying.
3380  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: June 03, 2021, 05:53:58 PM
It surprised me that bill gator made it onto the list this time around--not because I distrust him or have anything against him, but because apparently a lot of other members do.  Plus I don't think he's been all that active as of late.

Carlton Banks is another head scratcher, as he doesn't have a lot of positive feedback and has a DT negative as well.  I can't say I fully understand how the DT list is picked each cycle, but it's damn clear to me that it ain't what it used to be.  I think the forum should seriously consider going back to the way it used to be, where it took a lot of time to establish community trust before you could even get on DT2.  True, that depended on how DT1 was selected, but back then it was a major deal to add even one new member to DT2 because of the power it gives an individual.  Now it's more or less no big deal.
