3361  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's wrong with Bitcoin now? on: May 21, 2018, 02:21:36 PM
Bitcoin has lost almost 15% of its value since two weeks ago.
bitcoin is volatile and going up 15% or dropping down 15% is what we call "volatility".

Quote
At the peak around Christmas holidays, it was trading at over $19,000.
yes and it is also up from last year's $1000 so it is already 8-9 times higher in only one year!

Bitcoin investors have been predicting that meteoritic rises will commence any day now. But the price has been hovering in the $8,000-$9,000 range with surprisingly low volumes.
speculations these days are all over the place from what i am seeing which i believe proves that people are not sure about what will happen, although i have to admit they mostly tend to be positive and predict a rise.

regarding volumes i have to say they are surprisingly high as a matter of fact. i don't know where you looked but they are high on all exchanges which is why i consider this an accumulation phase.
3362  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you know the Estimated Price of Bitcoin in 2019? You will be surprised. on: May 21, 2018, 02:08:57 PM
unfortunately their "prediction" is nearly as meaningless as all the others who are predicting a drop because you can not predict bitcoin like this. you can say it will rise in the long term because that much is inevitable thanks to growing demand and a limited supply that bitcoin has but when and how much of it is never predictable.

i don't understand this part either:
"We believe the current path of hash power growth supports a BTC price of about $36,000 by 2019 year end,

what does hash power have anything to do with the price? it just shows mining bitcoin is so profitable that the number of bitcoin miners is increasing.
3363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will be the effects of stock exchanges company Opening crypto exchange on: May 21, 2018, 01:57:43 PM
as far as i can remember NASDAQ was planning on opening a bitcoin futures market not a bitcoin exchange market and they are different from each other. the Futures is like what GME group did last year.

in both cases it will be another good news for bitcoin and it can increase the demand and popularity of bitcoin. but if they really open a bitcoin exchange then it will be a huge good news for bitcoin because it will be a regulated and trusted place which you know is not going to run away like all the current exchanges and that can bring a large number of investors in bitcoin.
3364  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC losing dominance over ETH? on: May 21, 2018, 01:54:07 PM
only in your dreams Cheesy

it is funny how you quote bitcoin price but deliberately ignore the ethereum price! it has been dropping or may be better to call it "dumping' down hard from above $1500 to current $700 and it has been having a lot of trouble going higher than this because of all the dumps that are happening.
3365  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Follow Strictly while trading on: May 20, 2018, 05:51:35 PM
4. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify.

4.1. don't confuse "diversify" with buying hundreds of different altcoins in fact it is best not to buy altcoin for diversification purposes since they are already tied completely to bitcoin price during drops only and that can mean a huge loss all around when bitcoin drops and not enough recovery as bitcoin goes back on track of rising.
3366  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think "new" Alt coins & "Blockchain" based coins are good or bad for BTC? on: May 20, 2018, 04:43:43 PM
i say it depends on the project and the goals of it. the end result can be either good or bad or even both.
so far the negative effects has been bigger and it has never been about "money going into them instead of going in bitcoin" it is all about the reputation damages that they are causing and also the bigger volatility because of their pump and dumps and the fact that the only entrance and exit for most of them is through bitcoin.

creating better projects that are real not just some shitcoin for pump and dump can also be better for bitcoin as it also brings lots of positivity to the whole market and will make it look more professional.
3367  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the Bitcoin market going to collapse? on: May 20, 2018, 04:28:00 PM
we are getting closer to that day when majority of people realize that they should not use market cap for comparison and saying things like "market share" and "dominance" where they should really say "market cap" is silly. and hopefully we can soon see a new thing replace market cap which actually represents value of a cryptocurrency and by then you can clearly see how the real ranking goes. and we stop seeing silly topics like this pop up Cheesy
3368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Former President of Goldman Sachs Predicts a Global Cryptocurrency Other Than Bi on: May 20, 2018, 04:17:28 PM
this is a poorly written article about a poorly educated comment about bitcoin. this is basically the same pointless and endless argument about bitcoin's power usage which is becoming the favorite of the media these days. and that is just another new way of attacking bitcoin from a different angle since all the previous ones failed and this will also become a page in the history when they move on to a new method.
3369  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Selfish mining ? on: May 20, 2018, 03:52:16 PM
there is this not-at-all-popular website called google.com and if you go there and type in basic questions like "what is selfish mining" and press enter it will magically answer your question.
do that and if you still had question about some part of it that confused you come back here and ask others about that confusing part. Smiley
3370  Economy / Economics / Re: Dubai-based firm launches diamond-backed crypto assets on: May 18, 2018, 03:44:15 PM
why do they even bother with creating a cryptocurrency or asset? the name doesn't matter they are using a technology that they don't need to be using and they are creating something (a token for example) that has no usages, is centralized, and doesn't provide people with anything. it is just a way of making some money by speculation! so why not just go to stocks market and sell the stocks of their company like a normal person?
3371  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC 5K? Future price discussion! on: May 18, 2018, 03:35:52 PM
it is understandable that you want to predict a big drop just because it has been dropping now and some sort of small downtrend has shaped up but no chart can tell you where this downtrend is headed. so far the $8k has been holding up nicely and despite what you think the buy support has been decent for it.
it will take a lot of sell pressure to bring it down.
3372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - If you had the choice to vote - Commodity or Currency? on: May 18, 2018, 02:31:12 PM
a "commodity" doesn't even make any sense for bitcoin! everything about bitcoin is designed in a way from day one to be a currency. the paper mentions it repeatedly as a digital cash and all the popularity that bitcoin has ever gained and will ever gain in the future has been because it is a currency. i see this as a question with one and only answer: a currency.
3373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GOOGLE TRENDS: TRADING BITCOIN CAN NEVER BE THIS SIMPLE! on: May 18, 2018, 02:14:20 PM
this theory has been mentioned here before too. and it is an interesting one but to be honest this is the least reliable thing you can find because there is no direct logical relationship between how much people search about bitcoin and its price rise. they may search a lot but price still goes down!
3374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can somebody steal your btc? on: May 18, 2018, 02:08:02 PM
It could exist the possibility someone create a software whose function was to try thousands of times to find the private key till it is be done.

imagine a desert. i go in the middle of it in a random location, pick up one grain of sand color it green and leave it there. can you find it?
you can start from the start of the desert or in the middle or wherever else and look at thousands of grains of sand every milli second but you won't find it. that is similar to looking for one private key with a "software"!
3375  Economy / Speculation / Re: Debunking the "anyone can make a crypto" argument against Bitcoin on: May 17, 2018, 05:19:25 PM
the problem is at some point in the history the developers gave up the purpose of creating a working currency and started focusing on creating something they could make money from. otherwise i strongly believe that bitcoin can be "dethroned" as people love to say these days but this won't happen for years and it will not happen by any of the already existing altcoins.

we have two kinds of coins. the copy coins and the new coins.
copy coins are forks, or better said copy pasted code. it may be forks like bitcoin cash which also use the blockchain or it can be forks like litecoin that use the code only. these are jokes which we trade and have fun with their pumps.
the new coins are those that had a new and interesting idea. even Ethereum can be categorized as one but the problem is that most of them stopped at that and couldn't succeed. for example they didn't implement that "idea" properly and introduced lots of bugs and problems which makes them useless.
3376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Kardashian Theory on: May 17, 2018, 04:57:31 PM
Are Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash two sides of the same coin?
no!

Quote
Some folks have accused the two cryptos of being part of the same incestuous family of elites - supporting different narratives for the purpose of a common or single goal.
there are a lot of weird theories out there and mostly they exist to undermine bitcoin and bring it down to their own centralized level.
i do believe that you are wrong about bitcoin and if some day i find out that i was wrong i will sell my bitcoins and move on because i am involved in bitcoin only as long as it has certain attributes and most important one is the decentralization which is why i stay away from certain altcoins such as bitcoin-cash.
3377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia to Criminalize Bitcoin Use.. on: May 17, 2018, 04:37:05 PM
Putin is the president of old views. I think he does not want to accept a new world in which every Russian citizen can earn a decent home.

why did you just bump a 2-3 months old topic to say this?
not to mention that this news was a big FUD to begin with. there has never been any "criminalization" of bitcoin in Russia ever.
3378  Economy / Economics / Re: What if Zuckerberg paid us a share of FB advertising revenue? on: May 15, 2018, 04:56:19 PM
It's kind of an interesting concept though. With all these rumors about Facebook launching their own crypto, they could reward users tokens for internal services simply by being online and engaging. It would be kind of like mobile games giving users daily rewards for simply logging in.

they said they were looking into blockchain technology and that is not limited to creating a coin! there are a lot more applications for the technology than that. i have no idea how they are going to use it but one usage that comes to mind which can be close is a social media platform like Steem or a messaging one like bitmessage.
3379  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin faces 'death cross' after falling below $9,000 Read more at: //economic on: May 15, 2018, 04:47:08 PM
nothing happened on the last "death cross". Nothing will happen again now. Bitcoin isn't gonna suddenly start crashing simply because of one technical indicator. It probably will take Bitcoin a bit to break $10k, but it's not it is gonna just randomly start dropping back to $6000. We've been there, it got rejected, and now the base levels of support are a couple thousand dollars higher. If anything I think we'll just stay for the most part in this 8000s and 9000s range for another month or so.

Right now Bitcoin is bouncing around from low-mid 8000s to high 8000s. Unless there is another MtGox sell off or some big hack or other one off bad news event the 8000 support line should hold.

a lot of people want the price to drop that low which is why we keep seeing this type of speculations popping out these days. but at the same time they all know that price isn't going to fall anyways which is funny enough because this is the reason for sudden sharp jumps since the same people end up FOMO buying bitcoin as their dreams are crushed and price doesn't fall to their dream.
3380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Simple Tips Keeping Your Bitcoin from Hackers. on: May 15, 2018, 04:03:04 PM
Uhm, those tips are clearly meant for people who are storing their coins on online wallets, since you're mentioning 2FA.
I would advise against giving away control of your Bitcoins to any company. It's always better to have your own secure wallet, one that gives you control over your private keys.

Two-factor Authentication isn't a perfect solution, it can also be broken in certain instances.

OP probably had web wallets in mind when wrote this but 2FA is not necessarily pointing to web wallets only. you can have a cold storage with 2FA too.
for example using Electrum you can create a 2 of 3 multi signature wallet with TrustedCoin service which is your 2FA. this would be a desktop wallet which uses this option. it can also be used offline, although offline may be a bit weird setup!
